Title: Boot From Dvd Rom
Post by: Ghettofreeryder on December 03, 2003, 09:16:00 AM
I made changes to the 4977 bios with xbtool.  Problem is, when i try boot from the dvdrom, it give me an error 6, but not the normal error screen, it uses a modded screen, signed superfro at the bottem.  I just got my modchip working again, and i am trying to repair a messed up format, but i cant boot from disc, what can i do.

I do have a larger harddrive which works flawlessly, just trying to redo the original hd.

Im using an x2.1 pro, so does it really matter if it can unlock or not.  Shouldnt it boot from dvd first anyways, then i can reformat the drive, how would i recover from this?

yes it matters if it can unlock the drive. Even if you could boot to dash... which you can in some cases, you can't format the drive (it will act like it is though) because it's not unlocked. If the drive isn't unlocked you can't read it or write to it.

I have the password saved, so i need to use the dos unlock prog to unlock it?.. I have a 120 gb hd in my xbox right now, i want a backup incase it goes.  ANy other info i can use, i made a boot cd with evox, and looked it with the xbox i have the keys from, so wouldnt it be locked with the hdd key stored on the xbox, so why wouldnt my xbox be opening it?

I tryed unlocking with the 2 hdd keys i have.  Didnt work.  Guess im off to try the seagate utils.  It locks the hd with the key from the bios, no the dvd right?

it locks with a key based on your eeprom and drive model/serial number

from the fact that it wasnt able to unlock it sounds liek you unlocked it and erlocked with a different key, which explains why your backed up keys didnt work

and to answer a previous question, it wont boot form dvd because the bios checks the HD first (to make sure its there and so forth) the proceeds with the boot sequence

Yes, i realize that, but according to ata spec, there is a user and master key.  The key we see it the user key, im wondering if anyone has found the master key yet?
