Title: Phoenix And Xbtool Confusions
Post by: Jsmith on October 16, 2003, 11:01:00 PM
Hey folks,

When I download a bfm bios, and use that for Phoenix BIOS Loader, it loads fine.

But, when I download a non-bfm bios, and then convert it to BFM using XBTool, then Phoenix BIOS Loader can't load.  It starts up and shows me the splash screen, then it just goes to a black screen and hangs there.

I need to get this working cause, I gotta patch it for lba48 for my new hard drive.  Unfortunately, XBTool can't open up any of the bfm bios on xbins (because they were patched with an older version of XBTool), so I can't just patch one of them.

Note: I'm using phoenix with an Xecutor 1 modchip, so there's no dashboard hacks or anything like that.

Thanks  a lot for the help!

I don't have a modchip myselt, I run exploits, but why can't you flash your chip?  Why are you using phoenix?  But anyways, this tutorial should help you.

LBA support with phoenix 1.3

XBtool won't open them or they aren't recognized after opening them?

I just tested the x2 4977 bfm from xbins and it opens and is recognized just fine. Perhaps your problem is that you don't have the proper rc4 in debug.ini. You also need the correct key in the BFM.ini if you are converting to BFM. If you are working on a BIOS which has already been converted to BFM then just open it as a debug (and optionally set the BFM flag when you save it).

Which version of XBtool are you using?  I'm using 1.09.

I did put the correct RC4 keys in those files, so I'm not sure.  Maybe I'll try to get an older version of XBtool.  The only other one I have is 1.05, but that doesn't support LBA 48.

What do you mean by "open it as a debug"?   I don't see that option anywhere.

Thanks for the help everyone.  I ended up downloading the version 1.0.10.
Then I put the two image files in the bfm directory and added the rc4 key to bfm.ini.

Then I was able to open up a non-bfm bios, convert it to bfm and patch it for lba48.  With 1.0.10, Phoenix booted it up no problem.
Thanks again!

God...What would we do without XBTool?

Create head aches to ourselves using a Hex editor.
