Title: Replacement Motherboard/unmatched Hard Drive

do you still have your old mobo if so just put hdd back into that old motherboard and unlock the hdd then out in new mobo and lock again and thats it ;]

not much you can do because one box is 1.0 and the other is 1.2 the eeproms are not compatible , so you cant even unsolder them and swap them.


did you save the eeprom file from the dead mobo? if you have the eeprom file you can use your pc to unlock the hard drive, just look in tutorials on this site.

ouch....   nope no eeprom.bin file...  sounds like im screwed for now...    and the boards are a ver 1.2(fried) and a ver 1.0(good).....   No other options???

youd have to get another 1.1-1.5 motherboard, and unsolder and swap the eeproms then boot into the hd, and use config magic to unlock it,

Can someone please point me to a tutorial that shows me how to unlock my hdd?

I am in the same exact state as this guy who started this thread, but the only difference is I have all my "backup" files such as the eeprom .bin file and the hdd key and stuff.

So please?  I know it's on this site but I am not exactly sure what I'm looking for in the tutorials.  If you know where it is off-hand, could you please point me in the right direction.  Thanks.

So if I knew someone with ver 1.0 xbox, and say it was unmodded I could get every thing I need from it...  What I think I understand is I could mod the box Install my hard drive and pull the eeprom and other nesscesary files from it...??

you need the eeprom from the 1.2 motherboard as it is the only one that has the password for your hard drive.

there is no other xbox out there that will be able to unlock your hard drive without the eeprom chip that is actually on the burnt up board, you either have to swap the chip with another 1.1-1.5 xbox or you have to use some kind of multi programmer that i have seen a few people talk about on this site to get the information from the eeprom.

I can unlock the drive if you provide the mobo and HDD.  I'd keep the broken mobo as payment.  PM me if interested.

its that easy???   just unlock it in my pc???   Its a WD 40gig...  super generic...   what is the process?

Actually there is master passwords

The reason that you cant get them for the Xbox drives is because MS wont allow it

If you have a generic HDD that was bought seperately the Manufactuerer will have a master unlock for it

HOWEVER this will only allow a SECURE erase which is basically a low level format for security reasons

NOTE just to re-iterate you will NOT be able to get a password out of them for original XBOX drives

NO WAY.  So you're sayin that I could call the manufacturer, and be like, hey this b*tch is locked, can I have the master password to write it to zeroes..and then it would work??  Why hasn't this information been passed around before???  I called WD one time just to see what they said. I told them I just bought this harddrive and it was doing something fishy, so I explained it to them, and they said it was toast and that I needed to send it back.  Now I wanna try again.  LOL

Well this is a little embarrasing...  but apparently I just needed to scrape a little of the gloss of the main spot on the mobo for my matrix modchip and the box booted right up with my 40 gig wd hd.  thanks for everyones input and help.
