Title: X2 4977 Vs 3921 && D6 Vs M7
Post by: Scan-C on October 02, 2003, 07:59:00 AM
the media patch is a patch used for newer games. the bios patches on the fly and x2 4977 aswell as m7 support this. for a 1.0 xbox 4977 is the best. the x2 igr is by far the best and every bios can handle big drives if it is patched with xbtool.

for 3921 your mixing things up. this is the dashboard version. if you flash your chip with this it'll not work

yeah i know 3921 is a dash, I even said that in my post.
Why do u think x2 is better then 3921 for the 1.0 xbox?

My main question however is still between using D6 or M7 for the bios.  I'd first say M7 cause it's newer, however D6 came with the 3921 dash so it's probably better tested for it...  I have both on disk, just not sure which is better.  M7 is suppose to have a media patch, so i guess it's better?

Both M7 and D6+ have the media patch fix.  The original D6 does not.

I'd reccomend going with the M7, as it is released by the same group that makes the Dash, so compatibility is not a problem.

The M7 doesn't include IGR, but the IGR in the new evox works well, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I take it you're referring to the In-Game-Reset (IGR) features in 3921 and X2.
The X2 one is more compatible with games than the EvolutionX 3752 one.  Don't know if the same applies to 3921.
If you flash a newer X2 BIOS, apparently you'll have trouble if you try fitting a bigger hard drive.  It looks for a file on the drive to determine whether or not to disable IGR, if you drop in a brand new drive it won't be able to read it at all, and presumably will hang.

(if I've got this wrong, feel free to correct me.  I'm only going on what I've read on these forums)

I've used D.6 in my installations up to now, however I'll be using M7 in my installations starting this weekend.  Hopefully the fan speed bug will be fixed in XBtool by then.

(moving from a dashboard forum to the bios forum)

I should be able to run both bios's on my x2.2 pro so i think i'll do that.  I'm going to use M7 and x2 4978.03
Do you guys see any problem with that? the only think I can think of is that they each may be looking for different dashboard file names...
Oh yeah, and the subject should have been x2 4977 vs x2 4978.03 vs D6 vs M7 with evox 3921.

Thanks for all your help people!!!
