Hi All
I got an ALX2+ Rev3 and I'm glad I've found some info on it cause I have been searching for ages all to no avail.
Can someone please tell me how to update the bios as I currently have Xecuter .4976.02. Im thinking of updating to the latest one whatever that is. Also I would like to know how to update the EvolutionX dashboard.
The reason why I ask this is because the other day I went to play "Chronicles of Riddick" and it installed xbox live and now I can't boot to the EvolutionX dashboard because it just continually goes to the MS dashboard. Thats even when I hold the power button in for 2 seconds
And yes I'm a noob

Hi all,
I have the ALX2+R3 modchip, and was wondering what bios it used.
I presume its a modified x2, but i'd like to know for sure so i can utilise all the chips features.
Basically it has one write protected bios (red X) and one user flashable bios (blue X), but i dont know whether or not i'll be improving things by flashing a new bios until i know what features the pre programmed red bios has.
Heres all the relevant info i have:
ROM = "ALX2-RED",0x5355AA0F40396F68B2D9ED30BFF3BDA2
ROM = "ALX2-BLUE",0xFC16FA0620367B713CD47F8532B7F6BD
Flash = 0x04BA,"ALX2+ R3 FLASH",0x40000
CRC of bios.bin dumped by evox is 6b96088f (1,048,576 bytes btw).
Any help greatly appreciated

its either a patched evox or xecuter bios
I doubt they would have a clue on how to make their own kernels and to release one under their own name is a bit lame tbh
-
Hey,
yea, i kind of presumed that, maybe an executer bios, considering the x2 in alx2, but is there any way of determining which one?
I've emailed my retailer asking for any info they might have, so hopefully that'll shed some light on it.
Cheers

Look at the Kernel Version in evox's settings.

Aaah, cheers heinrich, that should be a great clue!
I'll post it later (its the mrs's monday night soap opera session, so no xbox for me till later on
)
Thanks again

OK, the kernel version is......
1.00.4976.02
So i presume that the alx2 preprogrammed bios's are just xecuter 2 build 4976.02 bios's with a colourmod and the word ALX2+ patched in.
If this is the case, then the only new feature for me is the no reset on eject implemented in build 4977, but i'll give it a try just to find out how to flash it for future reference.
Thanks for your help folks, please let me know if i've got something wrong here.

Where do you see "ALX2+" on the xbox?
For the bIOS in evox?
Cause... you can change that in evox.ini to say whatever you want. Kinda lame that they called it something that it is not.
-
The retailers website gives the rom= md5 lines for the evox ini, so ALX2+ comes up under the boot up X.
*EDIT* Hold on, thats just for evox, the xbox boot screen does say ALX2+ at the bottom, under the colour moddable X.
It is indeed lame, "custom bios", even i could customise to that extent, e.g. using xbtool to change the colours.
So the kernel gives the game away?
Sorry to keep asking questions which are already pretty obvious, but I'm a bit of a newbie (not had the xbox a fortnight) but i learn quick, so i'm just in the "check your assumptions" stage of things, i think i know what i'm doing, but lack the experience to be sure, so i keep having to doublecheck with folks on the forums and irc, sorry about that :-)
Thanks again, I'll be flashing a colour modded 4977 later so i'll post a little report here for any other alx2 users, there's not much info about these chips, but they seem pretty good to me [cheapmod clones with extra writable flash it seems]

OK, due to a lack of any other clear instructions, heres how to flash the user flashable part of an ALX2+ chip.
1) Put required bios in c:bios
2) turn off xbox
3) turn on xbox with blue bios, by pressing power button for 1-2 secs
4) go to system utils > flash bios
5) choose required bios from list
6) press y when prompted to begin flash
7) xbox will shut down, so turn back on with power button for 1-2 secs
8) if all went well, new bios should load.
There ya go, easy peasy, and you still have the modified x2 4976.02 in rom.

Quick update...
You can flash the flashable bit (blue) even when booted with the unflashable (red).
Another groovy thing is that if i power on with power button, i now get xbmp as my dash (good old xbtool, no renaming my precious files), but if i power on with both buttons, i go to evox. Now that is cool.
Hope this info is of some use to somebody

I have the same chip alx2+r3 and really like it.
Twodog to keep a backup of the blue bios with alx2 under use xbtool on the bios.bin file located in the backup folder and use the size function to create a 256k bios. I dont know how it works because its a 1meg file that has two bios's etc................but it worked for me!
Use xbtool to make your new or future bios's blue. Use the following color codes for a nice blue x :-)
X-Lip = R.0 G.1 B.0
X-Lip Highlites = R.0 G.0 B.255
X-Inner Walls = R.33 G.78 B.255
X-Inner Glow = R.138 G.223 B.255
X-Box Text = R.0 G.0 B.255

Thanks Imeister........worked like a treat....Thanks

Another question......My evoX dashboard is telling me that my bios in unkown. Ay reason why this is? My current bios version is exec2_4977. Do I need to edit the evox.ini to show this?
Cheers

Twodog you have to update your evox.ini file with your new bios info. To do this open up your bios in XBtool and press the copy md5 to clipboard button. Then open up your evox.ini and add the following in the rom section:
ROM = "X2 4977",md5-number-goes-here
paste in your md5 number to replace everything after the comma. Thats it your done!

ALX2 owners unite!
There's not much info about this chip around, it's good to see some other folks have gone for it too, and are willing to give a little support/info to the forums.
It lacks some features of the big name brands, but it'll do for now and its cheap
I was wondering about its XBLive compatability though - would it work with xbl if you put a switch on the d0 wire? Its all academic at the moment, but when broadband gets a wee bit cheaper I might be tempted.
