edit: I was wrong. the jumper has to be off to flash.

i'm not saying you're wrong, but I thought it had to be off to flash, and on is flash protect... otherwise i don't understand what it does if you can flash either way...

When the flash-protection jumper is on the chip will not flash. Maybe he means one of the other jumpers is on? The middle jumper would have to be on to enable the chip.

Is there anyway of knowing which jumpers are in place without disassembling the xbox.

well if you can flash it the flash jumper is off, and if the modchip runs the on jumper is on, and if it boots the first bank of the bios the bios selector jumper is on.
