Title: Relax Not Serving Up
Post by: X-ace on January 03, 2004, 08:37:00 AM
I have been running relax on my PC for about a year, and am now installing it on my second PC. However XBMP does not display anything when I select my new server on my xbox.

I am using Relax_ns on a PC running XP.
Under the debug tab it says:
"Could not bind socket. Address and port are already in use."
And I feel like this should be a clue, but am not sure.

Help.

My config.xml has the following entry

     <share>
       <name>XPC (XNS)</name>
       <url>T:\ProjectX\[email protected]</url>
       <cachesize>8192</cachesize>
     </share>

where 192.168.0.100 is the IP address of my PC.

And relax is set up with 3 shares (Music, Pictures, Videos) all of which have listed the folder T:[email protected] under them.

XPC shows up as an option under pictures, videos and Music on when running XBMP on my xbox, but when selecting it, it doesn't open the folder.

Does anyone have any clue?

thanks for all help.

Also ...I assume T: is the drive the share exists on and ProjectXXshare is the directory? Try adding a \ in between. T:\ProjectXXshare

dyrewolfe,

Thanks for your input. I did not install relax as a service. (I did boot up the wrong executable once, but turned the computer on and off afterwards.)

I am running relax_ns when I get the socket error.

The T: drive does exist as do the folders. for some reason the backslashes disappeared from my post. It is;
+ Drive: T
+ Folder: ProjectX
+ subfolder: Xshare
back slashes appear after drive T and the first folder

Hmm. What could be using a port?
I've got all the usual gizmos (printer, wi-fi) set up, but I didn't think they would lock up a port?

I ran into this same thing the other night.  I was trying other services (ccxstream) to see which would work best for streaming video to my XBOX.  I had installed ccxstream as a service using FireDaemon.  When I rebooted, I received the same error under the debug tab in relax.  Once I stopped the firedaemon service and restarted my PC, relax worked flawlessly.  So they were both using the smae port.

I hope this helps to diagnose the problem you are experiencing.  If you are like me you may have tried other services to see which was best.
Regards

I will try the netstat tonight.

As to other services, I have not really started any that I know of. I run ad-aware and spybot regularly, so I don't think there's any spyware on my setup.

I also don't think I started relax as a service under XP. I just double clicked on the executable instead of installing it the way the manual prescribes.)

Hmmm. Tried the "for these ips only" thing and netstat shows nothing on port 1400.

Thanks for all help. Something was blocking my 1400 port. A simple netstat command couldn't identify which, because it only shows ports in use. My 1400 ports was reserved by a service. Not sure which, but I shut down all the ones I could not recognize. I have a feeling it was MSmessenger, but I cannot be sure since I shut down more than that.

Anyway, it works.

Hmm. Interesting. I don't what would be using 1400. If your in the mood to find out this app might help:

http://www.diamondcs.com.au/openports/

Simple app that lists open ports and what is using them.

Glad you got it figured out either way.
