Title: Need Help Setting Up Xbmp 2.3 With Relax 0.75
Post by: shaman on May 06, 2003, 09:23:00 AM
Okay I am in need of some support.....

I cannot get XBMP 2.3 to work with RelaX v0.75. I have checked tutorials on various sites about this very configuration and *surprise!* they all say different things. I have tried all these different things, but nothing works. I even had some guy helping me out over AIM last night for about three hours or so. So, I have re-downloded a clean config file and am going to start from scratch.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated, and AIM me if you can, that would be ever better. I have all the software I need, etc, its just a matter of setting it up properly.

thanks in advance

ALSO :

Is there anything I have to configure in EVOX (I am using Version 1.8.3752) before messing around with the other two programs? Should I edit the .ini file in any way, or do I need to?

sorry to hear you having problems . . . sad.gif
dont give up! this is one of the best apps for xbox smile.gif

if you PM your email address i will send you my full config.xml to have a look at wink.gif

Hear is my advice . . .

The Relax share is a Network share defined as XNS . . .

<share>

       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>

In the above example 192.168.1.2 is the PC that is running the Relax s/w

By default 3 Relax shares exist in the config.xml . . . 1 for music, 1 for pictures
and 1 for videos. It is therefore necceassry to point the config.xml at the Relax
shares you create . . .

When setting up Relax you create "shares" by dragging and dropping paths
from your PC i.e. right hand pane (in the relax program) to the left hand pane.

See a gif of my Relax setup here . . .

user posted image

Sometimes when Relax is installed for the first time there are no shares defined in the
left hand pane. simply create new ones by right mouse clicking SHARES > add . . . rename them.

I also recommend placing a tick in the . . . Extra Options > "Disable Starup Warning for empty IP list" box.

I have tended to keep them the same names as the default config.xml as the CVS releases keep on coming and it is easier to do this than keep on editing the config.xml to how i would like them to be named!!!

Each time you install a CVS release it is necessary to edit the config.xml again. i.e. XNS for music, videos, pictures etc.

I also delete the following file prior to installing a new CVS release . . . system.bin

Q: Where do I find system.bin?
A: You find it here -> /E/TDATA/0face007/

Q: What is in the system.bin?
A: System.bin contains all settings you have made in xbmp. It will be re-created
next time you start xbmp and make adjustments to any settings.

When exiting relax the configuration you drag and drop is saved to this file . . .

RelaX_Config.XML

i run relax as an XP service . . . this way when my PC starts relax is allready up and running wink.gif

This is done by running . . .

c:\relax075\relax - install

Reboot PC afterwards. you can see Relax installed as a service by right mouse clicking
the My Computer icon > manage > services and applications > services . . . locate Relax

Hope this helps !!

edit . . .

you dont need to do anything special with evox.ini

edit x2 . . .

very good tutorial!

Little to add except that if you do not have Windows XP, you will want to run the Relax_NS executable.

Works like a charm.

I sometimes have issues with files that will not play and need to reboot XBMP though. I suspect memory issues. Do you know where temp files are stored and can be deleted?

I thought he just did.

Which of these steps do not work for you?

If you get more specific, i'm sure someone has the answer.

Okay the thing is, is that I used Slayers Cd and it installed all the aps for me. Now the versions are what I posted in the title of this thread unless I am wrong somewhere...I will give your method another shot, but it would be a lot more helpful if we did this together over aim. First tell me how to set up RelaX and then tell me how to edit my config.xml from XBMP....that would be a huge help smile.gif

I am using Windows ME if that needs any clarification although I dont think so.

I don't have AIM.

But you have to be able to inspect your config.xml
That's where to start.

Please for the love of god, can someone just go over this stuff with me over AIM or something? If there is something I dont understand in someones directions it takes forever over PM's and Email. I need help setting up my config.xml and also setting up my shares and whatever else in RelaX. I have tried every tutorial I could find but nothing works.

Explain it as you would explain it to a very slow child. There are things in these tutorials that the authors of them assume you understand already. Well, some of the things I do not.

I may need to start from the beginning. Can someone email me the ORIGINAL config.xml from the version of XBMP (2.3 ) that was on SLAYER's CD -- thats what I used. I think I messed up the original, that would be a start.

Okay, here it is.....Now this is for XBMP 2.3, build 04-14-03 I think that if you have a different build from me, then it won't work.....

note : I think that I should get RelaX (v0.75) all configured and then edit my config.xml properly, right?

Doesn't matter which order you do it in.

But why don't you go ahead and set up relax. There is a tutorial in this thread.

I like to put a folder directly on C: and call it Xmusic.
Make sure this one is served up in Relax. (drag it from the right side over to the music service on the left side - which you set up first.) It is kind of hard to get this part wrong.

What is the IP address of your Xbox, and your PC?
(don't really need the xbox one, but what the hey.)

I just drag/dropped stuff I wanted and then under "Display Name" I just typed up what it was so that xbmp will see it when I go into either music, picutres or videos (it does show it as a file, right? -- cause I am still not getting anything)

here is how my shares are set up

here is how my extra options are set up

as per my Relax setup . . .

user posted image

the shares are where all my files reside. i.e. all my mp3's live on my PC in a
folder called d:\stream\music\mp3

i dragged my PC d:\stream\music\mp3 folder to the mp3 share that i added.

you have shared out an actual file not a "shared area" for files!

if your PC ip address is 192.168.1.100 you have not reflected this in your config.xml file!

lets go back to my original attempt at help . . .

<share>

<---- PUT YOUR shared path in HERE!!!!
<cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>

you need to sort out your shared areas . . .
you need to enter your PC's ip address where relax is running . . .

when i highlight my music in XBMP menu and select XNS shares it lists a folder
named mp3

edit . . .

added more instructions! and attempt at better english!

how do you expect any shares to be visible?

your config.xml file does not reflect any shares that you have setup . . .

as per your posted config.xml . . .

<share>

<cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>

^^^ have a good look at this . . . how the hell is this your music share???

as per your posted graphics . . .

the ip does not match for a start! and Realx is sharing out c:\music\an file of somw sort

my suggestion would be to share out a shared area of files . . . c:\shared\music
for example. put all the music in this folder that you want XBMP to play!

hope you can see where you are going wrong!

OK I just set it up EXACTLY how you said, fixing what was in RelaX and my config file -- EXACTLY ! and I went into XBMP and hit Network (XNS) and nothing happened. nothing. Could it be because we are using different builds of xbmp or something? I am using 14-04-03 ?

W M Z, you rule.

Shaman, try to relax and follow the advice from WMZ, he's an expert. Imagine if you had a paid for service that you could call into, and you'll see the value of his (repeated) advice.

As far as I can see you do it right except that you need to share a folder, not a file. you need to designate this folder both in the Relax software AND in your xbmp config.ini. Use the right IP and you should be good to go.

First let me start off by saying that I am using Windows ME. Okay I went over you guys's suggestions and it still didnt work. Okay so I find my IP by going to START>RUN>WINIPCONFIG, right? I get this :

IP Address : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Which do I put where in the config.xml?

I made folders on my C: drive that go like this :

C: streamMusicmp3 (the backslashes arent working for some reason when I edit post)

I also made folders C:streamVideos and C:streamPictures but didnt put anything in them yet -- I just want to see if Music will work first.
===============================================================
Now I look at my config.xml ......

<share>

   (or should it be 192.168.1.100?)
       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
     </share>

Okay so the folders on C: and the path in the config.xml seem to match up (I am probably wrong though, please correct me on this one).......

===============================================================
Now I go to look at RelaX (I am using relax_ns.exe)....

user posted image

It looks fine to me as per what you guys said, unless I am missing something or leaving something out. This is VERY possible since my head has been spinning trying to get this stuff to work, heh.

Another question : what about the other stuff in RelaX? For instance, in the "Extra Options" and "Connections" windows, what should I have set there? In Extra Options, I have Server Port at 1400, Debug level at 0, nothing in the three long boxes uder debug port or in TBN directory and then I have this in Extensions : *.avi;*.mpg;*.mpeg;*.divx;*.dat;*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.mov;*.mp3;*.mp2;*.mp4;*.wmv;*.wma. I have nothing in "For these IP's Only" , I havent checked the two boxes below that, and in Proxy host I have PROXY1.PROXY.NET and Proxy Port set at 8080.

Okay now I just went into XBMP amd clicked on Network XNS and nothing happened. I even put in an SVCD and went to DVDROM (ISO9660) and it played it in XBMP.

Okay I think we are getting closer LOL !

I click on My music and I get the MY MUSIC page in XBMP and down the side I have Play, Shuffle, Record, Artists (which are all disabled) and under that I have Playlist and My Music which are enabled. However, there is nothing in there. I think I have an idea of what it is (don't I need to put a display name in RelaX for the files to show up in XBMP?), but I am still usure. I did however check out the Debug Log in RelaX and it's moving....For example, I hit My Music in the main XBMP page, then My Music down the bottom of the next page, and this scrolls up in RelaX :

I hit My Music in the main XBMP page, then My Music down the bottom of the next page

are you not selecting selecting . . . 1st / Main XBMP Screen > My Music > Network (XNS)

Network (XNS) = PC / Relax shares

i take it you do have some files in your shared area . . .

c:\stream\Music\mp3\all the music files that i want to listen to are in here

Oh, yeah I am selecting Network (XNS) In the Music folder I have one song (usually just burn all my music so I have few on there smile.gif ) and in my Pictures folder on C:streamPictures I have a folder full of pictures and a few out side of the folder but indside the main Picures folder. In Videos I have four .AVI files....yeah so there is stuff in there. Could it be something in Settings though? or how about some numbnuts thing I forgot to do that is obvious that you should do in, say, the config.xml, or in RelaX or somewhere else......?

Hmm. I presume Relax is running when you do this right? And your pc is connected to the network (sorry if it sounds like a dumb question).

My config file says the following

       <cachesize>8192</cachesize>
Note the :1400 after my IP address. I don't think this should impact anything, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

You also have to reboot XBMP in between each time you edit the config file.

If it still does not work, that sounds really odd. At this point Iwould try reinstalling the point release of XBMP (2.3 complex) to see if it is different.

WMZ we are watching...

No, none of those are dumb questions at all. I mean since I have a bunch of different things to work with like the config, RelaX, FXFlash (the ftp prog), and XBMP, those things tend to get overlooked by someone just learning -- like me.

Anyways guys, I am making headway. I can now see the folders that I made. Here is the share tag contents :

<share>

       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
     </share>

XBMP's official manual mentions to do this (put in $ROOT$) to add a complete share from RelaX. Now, when I go into XBMP and hit My Videos, I get two folders (ones that I put in C: stream Videos on my PC harddrive). HOWEVER (heheheheahahah) I still do not see the files themselves, therefore I am not able to view/play them. Okay so why arent these files showing up? Of course, I did change the XNS tags for pics and Music and put in folders as described above and still when I click on the folder, there are no contents.

weird.

if you are going to do that . . .

it should read . . .

you have left the c:\ in there, remove it!

Ok

In just a few steps and if you do not get it after this i am sorry for you.

Delete all shares in relax.

Make a share in a root dir on your pc, called music or what ever you want.

Here is a example picture:
user posted image

Right click in the window and choose save config or what it says.

The ip on my computor is 192.168.0.1 so the share in the config.xml will look like this:

     <share>

       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
     </share>

Use the path to your files instead of the one i used as an example.
The ip should be the ip to your computor.

Be case sensitive and reboot the xbox when you ftp over the edited config.xml

Start with getting one share working.
When that is done you can just look at it and see how to do the next.

The disconects in relax log window is normal. it does that after every connect.

nope. It is still showing the folders in XBMP but not the individual files -- so I can't listen to the music, watch the videos or view the pictures I have.... dry.gif

Yeah, wiseguy, I have it set up like that -- have you read the whole thread? I understood your directions, but they weren't as concise as WMZ's. You can't even spell computer right.

I can see the folders, I just can't see the individual files while in XBMP. Maybe it has to do with RelaX....I dunno.

now. to add another share directory, do i just insert another set of
tags b/w the currently existing <share> tags (e.g.
, or do i need to start another <share> segment under <music> like the one above?

One way would be to do as follows . . .

Update for Relax . . . (My setup is Relax installed as XP service)

Update Relax with new share . . . i have used c:\test\share\

(Be careful and make sure Relax keeps new config . . . in the past my Relax setup keeps
disapearing when i launch the file relax.exe . . . especially ip list!!!)

The new config can be confirmed by viewing RelaX_Config.XML . . . here is a snipit of "new" share . . .

       <ATTRIBUTE>16</ATTRIBUTE>
       C:\test\share

I rebooted PC once this was done . . . so my Relax service would pick up on the changes.

Next work on XBMP update . . .

Backup your existing config.xml i.e bu-config.xml and edit/add to config.xml the following . . .

<share>

       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
     </share>

<share>

       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>

You can see i have given the XNS Relax shares relevent names . . . D: and C:
this way you can tell what is what from XBMP My Music menu.

I edited the following on my PC and FTP'd to xbox HDD so a reboot of xbox is
necessary to acknowledge the changes in the config.xml file.

Launch XBMP and select MY Music and you will see D: and C: XNS shares.

NOTES:

i have found it necessary in the past to totally start over when making changes to Relax.

i am not complaining as it takes 5mins to re-do install and setup shares!

i.e. uninstall the service, remove all Relax files and start over . . . unzip to c:\relax075\
. . . install service again and re-do shares.

Hope this helps!  wink.gif
