Title: Anyone Tried Xbmp 2.3 Yet?
Post by: enflow on February 16, 2003, 03:23:00 PM
Hey guys,
I just downloaded XBMP 2.3 version and I was wondering if anyone has used it yet. I got the link on the main xbox-scene.com web page to download. Also another question, how to I take out my 2.1 version and install the 2.3? I am running Slayers Evox if that makes a difference. Thanks for looking guys.

XBMP 2.3 is 11MB and the CVS releases are only a little more than 3 MB. Does anyone know what the differences are, and why there is such a difference in file size. ?

Regards,
KP

geez people. you need to get the binaries if you dont intend on compiling the CSV's with the XDK yourself. the binaries are illegal to possess if you dont own the XDK and therefore are not so freely distributed.

Got it, using smb and relax. its slow sometimes but other than getting impatient no problems with that... now playlists is a whole different problem... just recently started trying to use playlists on 2.2 and now 2.3. neither with any success...

No one else is getting samba problems?  I just reinstalled XBMP 2.2 and it runs fine... then I reupgraded to 2.3 (redid the config file) and it sees all the files fine... but it still freezes when it tries to play anything  mad.gif

Here is an extract of the readme found in one of the latest CVS releases :

"I also encountered a new strange "bug" on my network that may help someone get
SMB running if they're having troubles. It doesnt seem to connect if your SMB
server can't resolve the xbox by name. Samba was giving a Gethostbyaddr error,
which cleared up once I added the xbox's ip/name to /etc/hosts. "

Maybe it will help you solve your Samba problems (even if Relax works very well with the new releases, especially the FF/RW functions)

Installed the latest and it works great with the things I use (Relax streaming, divx, mp3). Also I got my tbn's back through Relax :-) Great job guys, thanks a lot and keep up the great work!!!

Now I'm off looking for the skins that should go with it smile.gif

Don't you guys find the playback of VOB's slightly choppy still. Sometimes even the aspect is messed up. Is it just me or something to do with config.

The main issue is that VOB's play with a very  minor hesitation.

But I must say this is a great piece of software.

tongue.gif Well I finally got 2.3 installed with the new splash screen and everything. Finally SVCD support, too bad my drive can't read cd-r's so I need to burn on cd-rw's. But the network function is really cool, I can now play files of my pc through the network  biggrin.gif . If your looking for the new 2.3 get the cvs_compile_xbins_2-18-03 which is the newest. Look in #xbmp on EFnet. Well thats all i got to say tongue.gif  Later all.

The splash image still says 2.0...

Anyways, nite613 helped me out with a problem that I want to share to the world... if you're having SMB problems and the computer you're sharing from doesn't require a username or password, put one in anyways.

For some reason 2.3 requires a username and password no matter what for samba shares even if your computer doesn't, or it will freeze up (unlike version 2.2).

I changed my share URL from:
smb://workgroup/machine/share
to:
smb://user:pass@workgroup/machine/share

I think that was a bug, that they fixed.  Set your config to point to the root.

Interesting bug. At the end of an svcd .dat file rather then going back to the menu screen the stream locked up and made a buzzing noise showing the last image from the file. I just hit stop and switched the next file. No biggy but has NE1 else had this happen?
PS; this was an embedded fiel in a bin.

is there any chance u could post your xml file.. i'm still havin problems..

I seem to be stuck in the same category as you guys. I've had no problems with 2.2 but now with the new release I can't browse directories.

Yes i have same problme here. Normally in 2.2 I go to HDD and see the map Movies I made in F partition. And in that movie folder I always go to the folder of the movie and just play the .avi. Now in xmp 2.3 I only see HDD and that is it. When I click on HDD folder I see nothing, any idea how I can fix this.

look at the format of the current config.xml release in 2.3 or any NEW cvs build...then, reformat the config.xml you have been using lately, so that the tags are formatted correctly.

Xbox-scene would never give you a link to download this program. Anyone who thinks they did have probably downloaded the source code. If you dont know the difference delete the source code now as you will never need it and its useless.

It should only have "dll", "locale" and "media" folders. And there should definitely be a xbe file. If there isnt, try downloading from a source that isnt a load of arse.

Is it possible to play .avi and .mpg movies from cd-r in xbmp 2.3? I have tons of movies on cd-r. I burned them like as data-cd with nero, because I wanted to watch them from my computer, but now when I got my xbox, my question is if it is possible with any program to watch them?

Would be glad if anybody could solve my problem!

Martin

Not from cd-r, wince xbox can only ready cd-rw, dvd-r, dvd+r, so you need to put those .avi and .mpg on a cd-rw.

Is Xbox Media player ALOT Better then 2.2 ?

If so, what are the major differences between the 2 of them ?

I would just download the new one myself and try it but it took me so long to get 2.2 to work, I don't want to go through all the effort of it, if it's not better then 2.2, thanks.

Also it seems more solid. Well done.

Still have XBMP 2.1 running (ok, so I'm still a sucker for the Media Center skin) and was wondering if someone could help me updating that to the new XBMP 2.3 version?  Also, can anyone 'point' me in the right direction to d/l it (plez!).  thanks.
