love the SMB support in 2.2, I would like to see the bugs worked out of it!  Right now it dosen't seem to cope very well with large amounts of files or directories.

Support for more subtitle types (.sub), with language selection support.
I can usually see the movie without them, but I wouldn't mind the extra feature.

The ability to somehow read the WMV files that are stored when you RIP a cd with the orignal MS dash.  Like see the names, and length ect...  I love XBMP but i dont use it to listen to mp3's because they cant be played in a game.

If there was a utility to take the MP3's on the HD and dump them to the specific location on the xbox that is used by games that would be ideal.

Also, instead of editing an XML file, it would be easier if it was all done in an OPTIONS menu inside of the Media Player.

just wondering is there anything as such a mov2mpg or mov2avi ?

Yeah for some reason I'm thinking the same thing.  And I found this.   Pretty neat.

KazuyaWarazobi:  Why don't you just use VCDGear to convert those .dat files to .mpg's?  Takes fve minutes on a decent computer.

To the guy who said XViD, have you tried playing one?

I think 2.2 is pretty damn good as it stands - features wise.  The stability is iffy though, try navigating menus/dirs to fast & switching files quickly  and it'll almost always crash. (Video file stacking is a bit rough when the parts change, too.)

I hope they concentrate more on solidifying what they have, rather than going towards the dashboard replacement route, IMHO.

Well, that's news to me.  But if they manage that too, I won't ever need to use the stinky free QT player that Apple gives us ever again.   I mean - fullscreen playback only with the Pro version??   What's up with that?

also, i have no idea if it is even posible, but the ability to stream from a pc's capture device such as a tv tuner, video in  input or a camera would be cool.

I just changed the fonts and got XBMP2.2 working. How good is it? Playlists, My Apps, all good!

If they put a "My Games" option at the start, it'll replace Evox on my XBox. I can still run Evox from "My Apps" for FTP'ing, etc.

Oh, and easily changeable skins would be good. I couldn't find the Noodle skin, if anyone would like to point me in the right direction.

To clear up a few complaints:

XVID Works Good.
Just watched The Tow Towers in Xvid Format from hard drive and relax.

VCD's dont load up automatically
The DAT files by themselves playback fine.
CDR media rarely works. Xbox DVDROM's are very particular.
Goto the ISO forum and learn how to make an ISO and CD/DVD thats right for you.

Playlist Work
Although you cannot give them your own name
They get stored in f:\Music\Playlist1.m3u and then Playlist2.m3u and so on...
They can be looped forever

Slideshows
Do repeat forever.
Goto the Settings:General:Keep Items in Playlist
You can even que up music and slideshows at the same time.
And let them loop into infinity.

Try using the Remote Control. FFD and RWD work pretty good for me with only a slight A/V sinc
problems that can be easily adjusted on the fly...

IMO: The Remote Control is the best and easiest way to use XBMP.

Eventual support for the xbox dvd kit.. Alot of us have it.. It would be nice to use in XBMP

more codecs as time goes on..

better networking support. it would be nice just to be abel to network withough runing aserver. so almost like a shared folder on your pc.

Troll123 - thanks for clarifying this a bit.  Nice, unselfish work you do here - trying to answer all these questions on the media player.  And good to see that one of the actual winamp devs has it on his plan to start some xbox development.

I'm very interested to see the progress on whatever the winamp dev is going to do...

Also streaming an ISO game from a server is VERY unlikely because once you start the game you lose the connection to the streaming server. Can't run more than one xbe at a time on the xbox. If this were going to be possible it would have to be done in the bios.

TS probably needs a faster processor than the xbox currently has.  I know that PCs slower than 2.0 ghz have some trouble with HDTV playback without a hardware decoder.

Sorry if this hasn't already been mentioned, but...

I'd like to see an "infinite delay" when viewing pictures.  ACDSee for the PC functions like this.  You can do a slideshow with automatic delay, or you simply open the first file and you can "scroll" through the rest, leaving a pic on screen as long as you want without switching to the next or exiting.

Excellent job on a fantastic Xbox app!!

biggrin.gif .  most of the stuff i would like added has been mentioned but just wanted to throw in my 2c.  love.gif

*** Visualization (i know... over-rated but its neat)

*** Thumbnails (i don't want to have to copy every jpg file from my pc to the xbox, rename it, convert it into .tbn!!! especially since they are all in different sub dirs music/artist/album... can't it just pull the jpg from the same location it pull the .mp3???)

*** Playlists (right now i don't even use playlists cause its overly complicated... i don't want to have to go through all 20 gigs of mp3, selecting each one and then saving the playlist... i just want to select a shared dir and save... [this feature may already be implemented, but i wouldn't know because xbmp locks up everytime i try to select an entire dir... even small ones]... and why does the song have to start playing when selecting a dir to add to the playlist??? this may be part of the lockup problem in adding it to the playlist... sad.gif  also how do you load a saved playlist??? some type of notation of which playlist is loaded and which files are already a part of that playlist when browsing the files would be cool also  biggrin.gif )

*** Editor (more config.xml options in the settings please  wink.gif )

*** Custom Menus (i only use xbmp for music and video... can i remove the buttons for apps and pics? i'm not interested in replacing evox with xbmp i just want really good multimedia  cool.gif )

*** Screensaver (i really don't get what the screensaver does in the current version??? just blanks the screen???  that's really kinda lame  sad.gif )

all in all xbmp is an awesome app... but you asked for suggestions  biggrin.gif

Again added!  Try to read the other posts in this forum section.  Press the white button while on a folder or movie file, and XMBP will try to contact the Internet Movie Database and pull up information about the movie. But it's still unsupported and crashes alot.  But I like it.  I especially like the fact that you can also do this with folder names, and not just file names.  I also ran across this.  This program parses information from IMDB and and can also output the contents of a collection as a XML file.  It'd be cool if support could be added for all those tags and you could perhaps use the exported XML description file and have XBMP read information about your collection from there.  And then you could access it by pressing the white button.  I dunno whether or not it'd work, but I like the program and think it's a good way to manage a large movie collection.

It's easy to complain when you're not the one doing the work but you wanted suggestions so here we go:

I think the current bugs should be worked out before adding tons of other things.  A solid base should be built and new features should only be added once this has been attained.

No point having a gazillion things that don't work very well.

My 2 cents.

i would like to play divx and mp3 files from dvd-r
but v2.2 will only play the first 1/2 of the files on dvd-r

i just get a screechey noise if i I try to play any media file from over the 2gig point in a dvd-r or dvd-rw.

(v2.1 didn't have this problem.....but then it cached the entire
movie/mp3)

ps dvd movies on dvd-r/rw play fine all the way thru.......so
don't blame my media.

TS is not essentially MPG.

You can encapsulate services in a TS, and those services may or may not carry video and/or audio on PIDs. These PIDs may or may not be encoded in MPG. You can carry anything in a TS. At work I write code to carry IP streams (carousels, streaming video (mpeg4, divx, etc.) inside a TS PID ;-)

Depending on your platform (ATSC or DVB), you have either 188-byte or 204-byte packets to work with in the TS PID stream. You can pack anything into these (within common sense/reason).

troll123: storing the files locally on the xbox or playlist creation I am familiar with, but how can I view the playlist and interact with that list through a pc on the network? Could you point me to a thread or URL where I can read more about this, because I can't seem to find any documentation about that.

You really can't currently you need tools on both to be able to edit etc. You can create playlists on the xbox and save them but to manipulate them you need to use a pc.

I would like to see some audio visulations, more playable file types (i.e. Real, and Quicktime), and a non-network/non-dash replacement version.  I am tired of trying to figure out the config file to remove all the netork and apps stuff. Oh and with 2.3 I noticed that you can now acess media off CDs, why not add support for USB hardrives too?

a: yeah, like they are gonna make a stupid stripped down version for people to lazy to learn to edit a config file
b: editing the config file is simple, how about you actually take a look at it before giving up

I would like to see visualizations in a future release. And of course advanced playlist features and options.

I'd like to see the id3 version 2 tags. The current player is only showing the v1 tags which is bugging me as most of my mp3s only have the v2 tag.

*Note sure if these have been suggested already or are implemented in current version*
A way to zoom in on a Divx/DVD/etc while paused.
Ability to run XBMP as your desktop, I have a Xbox I only use media player with, would be nice if it would autoload.
Play a DVD from Media Player(Not sure if this works or not)
Ability to manipulate files(Kind of like Boxplorer in MP)
FTP support
Way to set it to play random in a directory, and not just playlist
Visual junk, like WMP and Winamp has, the trippy stuff, not skins
To play the extracted .dat files from SVCD and VCD
More custimization with the menus(HAven't checked if you can do this much)
Perhaps a better fast forward, like skip 1/4 ahead or something?
DTS support
Maybe a screenshot for movies?
Ability to stretch the screen

Offtopic kind of, but can you replace the Xbox DVD with a regular DVD to play cd-r/etc if you don't want to play games?

Awesome work with what you've done with it so far, I really enjoy it~

you've almost posted a straight feature list. perhaps you should go look at the latest version

And would like to see flashing names with the yellow and red buttons in in main menu.

And this together with a really nice xbmp skin that looks a bit like Windows XP

I'd like to see xbmp scan all my mp3's like other pc jukebox programs and cache the id3 data.  This would save all the connection slow downs associated with the id3 tag.

The one thing I would like to see is real DVD playback like in DVDX the like. It would be nice to set XBMP to autoplay DVDs in Evo X.

Full IMDB information, not being able to see the rating is really annoying.

The controler controls are just wacky. This is what I think would be more normal:
Green = play/pause
Red = stop
Thumbstick left/righ = ffrw/rew
Directional pad right = 1x speed 2x speed 4x etc
Directional pad left = 1/2 speed etc
Directional pad up/down = volume
ETC...

I love being able to access subtitle and audio/video sync directly but I still think it would have to be moved. I really havn't thought this thing through, just making a point  ph34r.gif

As I mentioned earlier in this thread I would like to be able to see bigger thumbnails of my movies. So I can select a movie based on its cover, the thumbs are so small you can't see them really.

Anyway, I love xbmp, I will donate some $. And thanks for all the bugfixes in the passed few releases. It's really looking good.

EDIT: one more thing, I only upgrade every 10 days or so. Whats keeping me from doing more frequent updating is the config file. I think its kind of odd that you can't change all these things in settings inside xbmp. Would probably take forever with all the letter scrolling involved but it would still be easier and more convienient.

tongue.gif I would have to say crossfading of Mp3's. I have around 12 gigs of high bitrate Mp3 that is DJ mixed and the breaks inbetween songs is a killer.  It would make my day with a crossfade similar to WMP 9 with more sensitivity if possible. WMP 9 will allow up up tenths of a second, but not perfect. Dont get my wrong, I would love tenths of a second, but hundredths would be perfect!!!

Then second I would have to say FTP'ing. I have my computer downstairs and my 'box upstairs. Sucks to have to run up and down. No big deal but this is an "if you had tree wishes sort of deal", so there is two off the top of my head.

Still it is an amazing thing the way it is.

Keep it up guys... You ROCK!

Turtle

Hmm what exactly do you mean by FTP'ing?

xbmp already has an ftp server called filezilla. So you can ftp stuff TO your xbox from your comp.

If you want to play stuff on your xbox FROM your pc just mount a smb share or use relax.

How cool would it be have it do the rumbles on the low khz of music and movies? Just stick each controller under a lounge cushion!

hahhaha  - that'd be sweet!

What do I want to xbmp?

Well, I read other posts and all they want is eye candy.. I want something more substantial..

I don`t care about adding neat graphics and stuff like that  (You can add those once the basic product is complete).. I`d like to see xbmp develop into the area of being able to read other file types..  I`d want it to read normal AVI`s and MPeg`s.. And others.. But AVI and MPEG would be essential.

And.. Well.. This is a stretch.. But if the xbox is connected to a router that has the internet.. It can technically access the internet right?.. Well, make XBMP update itself automatically... Using random sites or something.. Hell, use kazaa (P2P) to update it if you are worried about them tracking down download sites.. .

As for music.. (If the auto update internet thing is working).. Then it shouldn`t be a problem to let us play .PLS FILES (WINAMP RADIO).. http://www.shoutcast.com/waradio.phtml

Anyway.. Those are my suggestions. Thanks for listening.

would it be realistic to ask for support for playing media off memory cards. This isnt as silly as it sounds. Its very easy to add a USB to IDE convertor and stick a massive drive on there for holing movies/music. this would leave the other drive free for launching apps from etc

Umm not true I'm afraid.

This would actually be very difficult. Due to it requiring full USB driver support.

It's easy enough to code apps like xbmp and such for the xbox. But coding a full set of USB drivers would be far from an easy task.

Believe me this has been discussed many times before on numerous forums. Do a search on xboxhacker and the official xbmp forums if you want all the technical reasons as to why it won't happen.

I'd like xbmp to be able to cache bigger files.......

* Automatic setting up and downloading of TV guide channels.

I would like for XBOX media player to play cdg files, which are karaoke files.  It would be a great addon
