I am just wondering why you can't play originals if you insert a new dvd player?
If the xbox detects it why is that? and should'nt it be possible to use a bios flash that avoids it?

Edit: Anyone got some info about this? web pages?
Heres some links (to this page's tutorials) on how to do it...

thanks for that gabezilla, but I was thinking about a tutorial/info on why a PC DVD player won't read original games.
I just can't understand that when you replace the original DVD with another DVD, use a mod-chip it should work. You can even flash the DVD rom as well, can't you?
confused..
the xbox stock dvd drives has firmware that knows how to read xbox games, a PC drive has no idea how to read the xbox games
2 PC drive (samsung 616T and 616F) can be flashwed with the samsung 605 firmware to read originals
an other PC drive cant operate with that firmware, it would be liek flashing an xbox bios to a ps2, it would have no clue what to do with the hardware
a PC drive will still read backups from dvd-r, cd-r and so forth, as well as auio cds and dvd movies
yea ya need to flash it then mod the insides of the drive itself
unless your doing custom stuff.
speaking of ... just might do the dvd selctor switch inside an acrillic case and make some sweet a$$ moded box .... gears are turning can only mean trouble :-p
Is it possible for me to take a dvd drive from one xbox and put it in another?
yes all xbox dvd drives are interchangeable
thompson,phillips, samsung sdg-605
Well my next question is, I have a sd 606F in my pc, is it possible to flash that to 605? (if so, how?) Or am I just being stupid?
There are only two drives that can be flashed to be equivalent to a SD-605, those are the SD-616F and SD-616T.
606 will not work.
