Title: Please Help With Bios Flash
Post by: cmsbooboo on April 07, 2005, 10:58:00 AM
Bad Original Bios, I think!
On a v1.5 xbox, I have a bad xecutor 2.3 chip. I did not have a programmer at the time, so I did the hot swap method. However during the write process, I realized that the modchip was flash protected, yet it wrote to it. So I thought, I now beleive that it actually wrote to the original xbox bios. So if anyone can help me out on how to recover the original bios and flash it, if possible, that would be great. The problem is I have no video or understanding on how to write the original back. I am at the point where I am concidering doing teh hot swap again with the chip in protected mode and using the original bios to see if I can get it to write to the original again. This is kind of like shooting yourself a second time to see if you can make the wound cleaner!
Current State: Starts twice and frags with no video, with or without modchip. All connections are absolutely clean, only installed the pin header and removed it and checked all traces with meter (no problem there).

Do you have the points bridged? If not there is no way you flashed your onboard bios and must be some other issue.

No I did not bridge the board.
Well I must admit that it seems odd to me, but it was the only conclusion that I could come to. Here are a few more details for clarification.
Xbox worked fine before mod. Modchip was an xecutor 2.3b Install the pin header and mounted the chip but it fragged. Install another xecutor 2.3b (not mine) and it worked fine. Because I had no programmer, I started it with the borrowed chip and did a hot swap flash. Restarted and it fragged, but I noticed that the flash protection was on, so I don't know what it flashed but it flashed something. Removed the xecutor and the xbox still frags. I put back the borrowed one that worked fine and it still frags (i think because the original flash it bad and it can't even boot.
I have an electronic microscope so I could see the trace at a very large magnification. I removed the pin header and looked at it on a monitor for solder splatter, and there was none.
Maybe I am wrong about the original bios being flashed but I am at a lose. Possible this that the board went defective at the same time I was doing the mode.
Also, tried another dvd and hard drive.
Removed the board looking for a short or solder splash on the bottom of the board.
