Title: Help With The Bittorrent Plugin!
Post by: Doodmar on November 09, 2004, 08:43:00 PM
Ok, I just downloaded the BitTorrent python script for XMBC.  I followed the directions in the readme to the best of my ability.  So, I put it in the scripts folder on my xbox.  When I go to launch the script, next the the script filename it says [Running] for like a half a second, then it stops, when I press the white button it gives me this error message

##################################

Scripts Output
-->Python Initialized<--
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File 'W:\scripts\torrent\BITBOX.PY', line 13, in ?
     from BitTorrent.download import download
ImportError: No module named BitTorrent.download

##################################

I have absolutely no clue on how to fix this.  Can someone give me some kind of n00b tutorial on how to make this work?

Where'd you find it? The link I see for it from xbmc's python scripts site has been dead for a while now, and I'd really like to try it.

looks like you need to edit the py.

open up with notepad.

F:\Apps\XMBC\scripts\torrent\BITXBOX.PY

and also

F:\Apps\XMBC\scripts\torrent\BitTorrent\     <-- this has all the files that came with it

When I opened the .rar it had like 3 readme's and BITXBOX.PY and a folder with all the other files in it.

What do I need to edit in the .PY file?

That script was written prior to many python updates..  I'll take a look at it..  The error you showed however is kinda odd though..  That part of the language doesn't change..  do you see Downlod.py/pyc in the bittorrent directory?

I have the bitxbox.py  and the bittorrent folder in the root scripts dir ... and had no problems ... try not puttin it in an extra dir ...

you have to edit these:

source = ''
destination = 'F:\\Media\\Download\\'
dirselect = 'E:\\test\\'

source : leave empty and you get an open file dialog
destinaion:  destination = 'F:\\Media\\Download\\' for downloading to F:\media\download
dirselect: dirselect = 'F:\\media\\download\\' for picking the torrent files from f:\media\download

if you take f:\media\download as your dir ... ftp the torrent files there and start the script
make sure that there are only ftp conform characters in the filename

the torrent script can be found here :

the source id used to grap torrents of the web and can also be used for downloading any file off the web .

yes point to directery with torrents in & yes u can change the name

if u leave the source blank will go to torrent select.

if any 1 knows any thing about hosting, would be nice
i did not understand that side of it.

Ok, I just thought of something.  Does it matter if the filenames are all in upper case?  I havent been able to FTP to my xbox lately so I have been burning CD's with nero(Then I just copy the CD to where I want it).  It makes all the filenames in uppercase, no matter what I do.  Could this be the problem?

It seems that your Nero makes your filenames oldschoool MSdos compatible (8.3) ... ?
That can be a problem if some filenames are longer than 8 characters
Switch to "ISO Level 3" And check "Joliet" ...

Obiously he can not find the BitTorrent  Dir.
The error is on line 13
"from BitTorrent.download import download"
So have you reftp'd it to your root scripts dir ?

Another Problem could be:
Do you have a / the latest Python Package installed? Which build of XBMC are you running?

Yes I have it in the root scripts dir now.  I'll reburn with those settings to see if that works.

I have the latest xbmc (10-29-04) and whatever python that came with that.

Hey everyone,

I installed the bittorrent script, and it seems to work, as I can see the downloaded file size increasing on the disk. However, I can't seem to get to the download progress page, supposedly reached by pressing the white button, according to the documentation.

Anybody knows why it doesn't work? Could it be because I'm using a recent version of XBMC?

Thanks guys!

White should get you there, but word of advice: If you try to look at script output while the xbox is Checking Existing File, it will probably freeze/crash..

thats why torrent browser is so much better, it browses a certain genre of game torrents over at a certain big torrent site. and it lists them on the screen. you can either 1) save them to your xbox hdd 2)have the script ftp the torrents to your comp. 3)*best of all* have it send to torrent directly to ABC 2.6.9 when you have the abc webservice enabled.

that way, you browse torrents with your xbox, and once you pick a torrent, it sends it to your computer which then spends all of the time downloading. meanwhile youre sitting around playing halo 2.

its a great thing.

Well I have two cents on that too.
Xbox only takes up 72 watts of power. My rigs takes up 400 watts... thats a big save on my electric bill!
