Title: Samsung Sd 616e?
Post by: ricflairandy on February 02, 2004, 06:35:00 AM
Does anyone know if the Samsung SD616E DVD drive can be used in an Xbox?
I know the SD 616F and T can but the Q cannot.

yeah, i remember seeing something that the E drive was one that couldnt be used, but you can still hook it up to play backups and just keep your original xbox drive

Yep, you can't use anything but the Samsung 616t and 616f models to play original Xbox games.  You can use any PC DVD drive, including the 616e and 616q, to read backups only.

Thanks for the info, that is ashame because no where in the UK seems to sell the F or T models apart from people on ebay selling them at silly prices.

On the Buy/Sell forum, there are a few people that sell modded 616T's.  XBoxMan is a reliable one.  You are lookin at least 95 USD shipped for a modded one.  They are awesome though and read everything.
