Title: Pbl For Live?
Post by: riceboy004 on January 13, 2004, 01:17:00 PM
Ive havent found a concrete answer for this: With a flashed tsop, run phoenix bios loader to load a retail bios, and go on XBLive with an original game?  <

ive never seen a definite answer either, but im 99.9% sure its no, since why would MS allow a BFM patched bios on Live and not any other hacked bios?  <

o ok. im not too familiar with softmodding. does the bios have to be patched to be loaded? are there any alternate ways to load a pure retail bios w/o a switch?  <

the only wa to load a bios with PBL is patch it to be Boot From Media (hard drive or disc, as opposed to a flash ROM chip)

and no, theres no other way as far as i know to get  abios to load from media like that  <

what does m$ exactly check for when signing on xbl?  i wonder if somehow the bfm patch could somehow slip through.   :)   <

they check what bios you have loaded, im guessing the check is similar to the xbe signing, any alteration to the code, no matter how small invalidates the signature, i would assume the same goes for the bios  <

But making a bios BFM doesn't change how it appears when shadowed in memory - it just re-formats it so that it can be loaded by the PBL loading function.

I.e. once loaded into memory the BFM bios is exactly the same as an original bios.  Just think about it - every bit in the original bios has some useful purpose - changing part of it would render it useless.  <

stuff in changed all teh time, whenever you use xbtool to do a colormod, or change the boot sequence, or adjust the fan speed, all that is changing the bios

in fact, an evox bios is juts aretail kernel thats been hacked to ignore digital signitures  <

All they have to do is a simple CRC check and they know you're not legit. As stated above... changing one single character in the bios wont pass a CRC check.  <
