Post by: JayDee on December 30, 2003, 01:26:00 PM
All of you having problem flashing these tsops, do you scrape the surface of the solder points with a SMALL flat screwdriver to get rid of the clear coating on the mobo?

Forgot to scrape one 2 days ago and i was 100% sure that the solderpoints where solid but still got the chip not writable bullshit.

Took me a good 45 minutes and 5 or 6 solder and desolderings befor i remebered that i hadn´t scraped the points.

After that it took the normal 5 minutes to flash, install and screw the box together.

I wouldn´t say that i am a expert solderer but rather experianced (do ps2´s without to much problem) but i still fucked up for the better part of an hour.

no way my friends,i've tried in 4 different machines ,,,soldered both top points and i get same result as always......W49F020 DETECTED ...and erasing,,,,,,,raincoat detects same bios and then says 0x090...erasing error.....AND then says can be your xbox chip writing protected?? sad.gif  ...... i think points are OK ,,,why?? just simply cause i cant undestad why i have never fails when i get a xbox with different tsop flashchip ,,,it always works ,,,,but if the chip is w49f020t-90b no way to make it.........

Just Flashed a v1.5 XBox TSOP (Winbond W49F020T-90B) with tweaked M7 BIOS.  Works perfectly using the method described above (using Raincoat 0.5+)!

I use the eurasia tsop kit

but I always use a fiberglass pen to ensure any solder points tsop or lpc or homebrew mod are nice n clean whilst the soldering iron is warming up

Resoldered those 2 points on the top about 3 times now and get the same, using the latest raincoat as well

is it definatly the 2 solder points causing this? because as far i can see there connected i also checked with a multimeter

You only need 2 for ALL xbox versions. You only increase your chances of screwing up by trying to mess with more bottom points.

Don't forget about the v1.1 box with a Sharp tsop which needs a wire bridge on the bottom. Search if you want some more info on the Sharp tsop  wink.gif

R7D2, man was that small... what happened was i let my mate do it as its his xbox and i thought he'd be fine with it so left him to it... looked at it and he covered R7D2 in solder biggrin.gif

hehe thought it was knackered but it still booted so thought i'd try and fix it, the resistor got suck on the soldering iron when i tried removing some of the solder but managed to find it again and stick it back in... could'nt belive it when i tried a multimeter on it, it still worked smile.gif

smallest thing i've had to solder, i had blobs of solder bigger than it

...Cool!!!!!

so now you probably have the feeling you can SOLDER ANYTHING!!!!!   wink.gif

i didn't have mine back to life,  did solder that GROUND and 3,3 volt....

but the Chameleon doesn't want to boot....   sad.gif

i think i will get everything disconnected AGAIN......and try it all over AGAIN....

....AFTER i have had another joint to get relaxed, from all the mini, macro, midget soldering skills and techniques.....

please keep us all posted about your progress, Bro!!!!

if we stick together, we can maybe find ALL the answers to get them ALL FIXXED!!!!

I got a 1.5 to flash, but something went wrong. when I rebooted, it does the on off thing three times then flashes red and green.
Any ideas?
Isn't that the bad bios error?
I used the same bios I have used on the last 5 boxes I moded. but this is the first 1.5 I have done.

What bios did you use? If you used anything other than X2 4979 or M7 or the newer x2 4980, that's why it's fragging.....The other bios's don't have focus encoder support.

Looks like it's a 29 wire mod for you!

I repair tsop's if you don't feel up to it  cool.gif

then try to flash - or you can bridge all 3 sets of points on the MB - 2 sets on top 1 set on bottom, edit your evox.ini with that info and it should flash.

That last line...
Flash = 0x0900,"Winbond - W49F020T",0x40000

is wrong.  VERY wrong.  There is no such manufacturer as 0x09, this comes up BECAUSE YOUR SOLDERING IS FUCKED.

If you succeed in flashing whatever device is there (in other words your RD jumper is bad but your WR jumper is good), I feel sorry for you, because you've probably just reprogrammed your Xbox as a doorstop.

If you don't want to risk it, REMOVE THAT LINE!

Nothing happens if 0x0900 is in evox.ini, simple the erase process fails because without #OE and #WE drived correctly, the flash understand only the read command.

Are you positive about this?

Would you be prepared to put your money where your mouth is, and try flashing a machine with the WE jumper soldered (therefore enabling write access to the chip) and the RD jumper DEsoldered (so raincoat can't identify it correctly), whilst keeping that line in your raincoat.conf?

'cos I wouldn't!

theres 3 points u gotta solder proly

most people say its only 2 because the 3rd works only if uve soldered one of the 2 bad but i think thats bs.. im not an amateur solderer and i had to do 3 points

it all depends on the chip ur using and winbonds u do

i did it with the audio exploit too. this is what i did: copy all the files from the 000000000000 directory of the 007savewithraincoat.zip file onto the E: drive of the xbox. then, goto dos box and type xbedump default.xbe -audio. then, rename out.xbe to linux.xbe and put that in your E: drive. Then, when you run the audio exploit (do the button combo) it will load up raincoat and u can telnet in and flash.

If you are using the 007 raincoat package that is on #xbins you have a raincoat version that is too old.  I ran into problems using raincoat on an xbox that had a winbond chip on it.  I checked and re-checked my solder points and nothing was wrong but i kept on getting an error message that was saying it could not erase or flash my chip.  All you have to do is replace the file called raincoat in the 007 memory card directory and replace it with a newer version of raincoat (.501)

I just did a 1.5 with the winbond chip using the 007_tsop_flash_kit_1_0_alpha6 that is on xbins and it worked just fine without needing any replacement files or a configuration file (besides just needing a bios.bin added). Just a note that I used all three soldering points (always works the best for me that way).

QUOTE

This is partially wrong.  If you try flashing the winbond chip using evox when there is no bios configuration for the winbond chip in the evox.ini then it will display this.  It is still correct though that even after you add the bios configuration for the winbond chip, evox will NOT be able to flash it and just freeze.
