Post by: protowars on December 20, 2003, 01:41:00 PM
i flashed my tsop and used a switch to change between the bioses

it worked for while

but then when i mounted the switch in back by drilling hole

and resoldered the wires

when i put the switch at vcc it boots to xecuter bios

when i put it on a19, it reboots and smoke

not sure wut i can do now

the middle wire is connected to the metal case

literal smoke? are you sure you connected to a19?

wait...middle wire to case? the middle wire should go to a19, and the outer 2 one goes to ground (case or screw) and the other to 3.3v VCC

is possible that your grounding the 3.3v, which would just heat up and could be melting the insulation on the wire, causing smoke

On a technical note. Direct shorting your 3.3v line can cause damage to the Power Supply.
May I suggest that you redo your switch lines and then monitor the 3.3 volt line during a boot up (use a digital volt meter) if it dips more than 0.15 - 0.2 volts I'd think about changing the supply for a new one.
