Title: CPS3 Question
Post by: nes6502 on September 09, 2008, 04:26:00 PM
Does anyone have an old PC (less than 1 Ghz) and can test the CPS3 games using the latest Final Burn Alpha? I am guessing that they would be unplayable. The reason I ask is because I have ported the latest Final Burn Alpha, but don't have the interest in adding virtual memory support for CPS3 games if they would be unplayable.

Sorry can't help with testing on <1 GHz hardware, but does that mean that Turbo Out Run is playable on XBOX now ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

Yes. At about 45 FPS, but with frameskip, it's very playable.

I also ported the original Final Burn. It plays Thunder Blade, Galaxy Force, Power Drift, etc... fullspeed with filters (and with less glitches than the Final Burn Alpha versions). The emulation of those games in Final Burn Alpha ran them at 30 FPS. Other games inlcude G-Loc, Strike Fighter, Street Fighter, and probably others.

No - they are working but slow - as in mame as in Fba

I must say - what a WQ$%#% great day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

It is with DDCrew and Explosiv Breaker

I don't know about the latest version of FBA, but there is a CPS3 Emulator for the box that works great, so the games are fully playable on the XBox if that's why you wanted it tested on the 1Ghz machine or less.  Hope that helps... prolly not.

there was a lot of trickery involved to get cps3 emulation on xbox.for starters the emu creates a swap file to pull off the supers, thats why you get a slight delay when you are about to perform the super moves.
either way its good to see that you are considering looking at puting it in nes6502.

Can this not be ported somehow to another emu?  Even though it's not perfect emulation?

I mean they're using a machine that is going to make black holes that devour the earth today somewhere in Europe.  This isn't particle science man. cool.gif

really i think the way you have to look at it is,cpx3 is a standalone emu just for cps3 and from what i know there is hell of a lot of trickery involved to get the xbox to play these.fba is a multi emu with multiple cores for cps1,2neogeo......blah blah.
i would love to have cps3 on fba,but i just dont think the xbox can pull it off through fba alone, would love to be proved wrong though.
but if nes 6052 can find a way then that would be great.

I give it 50/50 like anything else.  The emu is old news now, but I remember nearly everyone saying that the emulation couldn't have been done in the first place, yet somebody did it.

I'm still not convinced that Saturn can't be run on the XBox, but somebody has to be willing and able to work on it.

We'll see.  Hopefully we get it in FBA at least as well as it was done in the current emu.

Title: CPS3 Question
Post by: nes6502 on September 10, 2008, 12:13:00 PM
Final Burn Alpha adds all of its drivers by porting them from MAME. MAME = SLOW is the safest assumption. For example, most of the Taito drivers run at 20 FPS on the XBOX. There is no way CPS3 would run at or anywhere near what the other CPS3 emulator runs at. That's because the person who ported the CPS3 emulator also wrote the emulator.

I'm not writing an emulator. I'm just porting what is allready written. If it does not run at 60 FPS, then there is nothing I can do. I am also not adding virtual memory to any of the drivers. The few games that require virtual memory allready run perfect in FBA and MAME.

The purpose of what I am doing is only to add the games that are not emulated anywhere else on the Xbox. Anything else (that doesn't require virtual memory) is a bonus.

I actually only ported anything because I wanted to play Galaxy Force, Power Drift, and Thunder Blade. Once I ported Final Burn Alpha, I realized those games played terrible. I then ported the original Final Burn. They then ran perfect. Having done all the work to port Final Burn Alpha, and not wanting it to go to waste, I decided to combine the two. I am almost done with that. After I add a decent GUI, work out the rest of the kinks, then I'll release them both.

Like nes6250 said, anything that goes around mame is slow especially in new mame versions.  Great games already ported in mame like Darius Gaiden and Elevator Action (F3 system) would play perfectly if ported from another free source emulator like raine that requires lesser cpu requirements to work.   BP, I dont know yet your mamedox port, but did you update any existing driver in the current 0.84.3 build? Like the sega system32 drivers so we can play for example Golden Axe2 without bugs?

C'mon NES... I think that post at least deserves a reply even if it is no (hopefully not).  I didn't even know that BP knew what humility was until now, and to be completely honest, this post has pretty much blown me away.

Did you like the videos we all made, btw?  I haven't heard anything from you since you released the dual preview SNES emu and got this whole project started.  It would be cool to say hi and thanks if I knew you were ever around to hear it.

I did respond. I sent him a PM last week about that. Yes I thought the previews were great! Thanks to everyone. I didn't think anyone would use it (like the horizontal screen flip and the image support).

@BritneysPAIRS: Sorry about the slow response to your PM. I am very busy with a new port of Final Burn Alpha, and I don't really have the time to help port new drivers or do a new MAME core.
I could help with adding video preview support. What help do you need? Do you mean you have some questions, need the source, or want me to do it? If you want me to add it, then send me the source and I'll add it.

Hey NES.  Good to hear from you, really.

I understand about the PM thing.  I prefer to work among the fellow proletariat and document everything as it happens, while others prefer to do things behinds the scenes.  It's all a matter of personal preference.  That being said, I'm thrilled that you would be willing to help on that project and can't wait to see the buzz that it generates.  After all of the work that BP has given to the MAME project, it totally deserves video support at this point.  Thanks for replying here so we all know that it may someday happen in the future.

I'm glad you liked the videos too.  They're something I always wanted, but wasn't sure if it would ever happen on XBox, given my very limited coding abilities.

Stay tuned.  I hope that with the new friends I've made here we can get this ability, and the new "dynamic skin" ported to just about every emu with full artwork and video sets someday.

Later, and good luck to both of you,
~Rx

Ill post you the source tonight nes6502... please put comments beside inserted code eg // nes6502 lines so I can see what has happened incase or issues or adding stuff into the source. I can look at the core later but I do have a few coding questions for you as well so I can finish a few features properly. As I said I will also look into a new GUI for FBA sometime and Kensho has updated FBA alot and it is very close to going out they are testing every new game with a few people as we speak.

RX let me know soon when you are free as im about to finalise a list of supported titles so it fits on one DVD and if you want the expansion DVD you or someone else will have to make the project. I can help with support but wont actually make the inis keymaps cat etc.... The source for CoinOPS in full will be released with the new build as others maybe able to improve it and im gettting to the end of my skills and thoughts on how to improve the GUI (there are alot of little changes in this now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) GUI wise)

I'd be more than happy to help out BP and to work with others on this when you're through.  Thanks for all your work on the project.  CoinOPS really is by far the best MAME experience I've ever had on any platform.

Feel free to give me any specifics and what you're releasing for others to work upon anytime you and NES get the video previews sorted out and wrapped up.  I've got about 12 projects going on right now at least, but there's no reason that MAME can't be added to them and improved upon by others who want to help in the meantime.  I'm a little burned out on MAME right now myself after spending months coding with no payoff, but I do plan on getting an extra pack developed to compliment your final DVD in the future.

I figured that as long as you were still improving upon it, any work I did would be redundant and stupid, so I picked up the slack elsewhere.  Though I'm very confident in the people that I'm working with now, I Hope you're around to give me a friendly piece of advice after you hang it up.

Would be nice to have a good coders knowelge for 2-3 days and really get this polished and maxed out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I will need my time for a new  XBMC interface after this and a new FBA GUI but im sure stuff will happen with mame hopefully others do some stuff to it that I like.... if not im pretty happy with my build now. Easy enough to help but as I say CoinOPS isnt the only thing im working on and people will also like other projects id say (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Title: CPS3 Question
Post by: nes6502 on October 27, 2008, 02:24:00 PM
Progress is good. Spent a long time working on the GUI, now I'm back to working on the compatability. There are so many games that require virtual memory. The GUI is not finished nor is the compatability. It's very usable, but not as user freindly as I'd like by default. It resembles ZsnexBox with a PM3 skin. I'm waiting on a couple people to make logo's, but if anyone else wants to make one (or any art), I'd appreciate it.

Some of the features are:

Latest FBA Core + Final Burn 0.517
Dual screenshot/Video Previews
All games (that don't require VM) work.
Added VM to CPS2 and some Cave games
Lots of ROM filters (CPS2, CPS1, Various, Genre, Year, Vertical Shooters, 2D Fighters, etc...)
MAME History
Built in Cheat database for nearly all games
Favories list
Most things in the GUI can be modified
Video can be used as part of the GUI (like a background)
Savestates
Game Guides
NVRAM
All games keymapped
All buttons can be remapped on all 4 controllers.

It supports 1600+ games. I would say compatability is 90% (10% need VM). However, that 10% represents a lot of games people play like Metal Slug 3-5, KOF 95-2003, etc... So, I'm trying to fix most of that before releasing.

I'd also like to have a better GUI, but with no artistic skills, I'm having to make do with whatever i can find. And none of what I can find has anything to do with arcade games. If I had better GUI, then that would motivate me to put the pedal to the medal and try to have a release (that's a hint to any of you artistic people)

neverwill is unfortuantly busy, so if anyone wants to help create artwork, please send whatever to ZsnexBox at hot mail dot com or PM me here.

I've already started working on the Final burn legends logo...
but for some reasons i'm not satisfied with it...
and i'm working on the unreleased neverwill skin (since he sent me the psd files)and dynamic skins at the same time;
but I promise to look into it this week (with my girlfriend )

p.s.: Nes6502, if i understand well, your skin will be a sort of DYNAMIC skin, where you can dispose video window, game boxart almost where you want?
if that is the case it's just fantastic!

Post by: nes6502 on October 27, 2008, 03:47:00 PM
Yes. It works just like ZsnexBox. What would be cool is if I had a ROM browser that had the scanline alpha part (like on the Main Menu with the black gradiant fade at the edge). Then I could display the video previews or boxart behind that and they could take up the entire screen. I am doing this for the main menu (the video changes each time the user picks a new video item) It looks very profesional. Of course, this would be enabled/disabled in the GUI for users who like to have dual previews. But without a ROM browser image with that feature, there's no point in adding support for it.
Title: CPS3 Question
Post by: gilles9999 on October 27, 2008, 04:34:00 PM
How about a DYNAMIC skin nes?
something like this:
(IMG:http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/3/10/27/f_gameselectfm_a2d013a.jpg)
-Well,since we have the dual previews/boxarts and videos at the same in the news emus
(thanks to you Nes6502, and now madmab, and for sure differents great coders in the future)
and since each user is different,We had a loooot of differents suggestions about the
best gameselect screen disposition:
alot of users like the videos dual with title screen,
other users want only boxarts since they don't have space for videos
other wants dual videos with boxarts
others want big videos and big boxarts
others want only screenshots
etc...
etc...
etc...

We have discuss this a lot with madmab ressurectionX,run088, other members, finally we were all agree to say, the best solution would be a "dynamic skin" where the user can set/disable all the sprites of the gameselect screen and choose his favorite view
it's just a "nude" background, where you set yourself the video window(with video/without), flyer (with/without)buttons(with/without) etc...

If you like this solution i can provide you the dynamic skin, since i have all the photoshop psd files

I'm not sure I understand. How is that not allready in all of Xports emulators? Can't  the user allready move, resize, everything as is? Or do you mean these are just presets that the user picks from? Am I misunderstanding?

No, In all the Xport emulators skins i know (and i have tested a lot), the background is only one 640*480 jpg image and the screenshot window is always small

So, with the dual video/boxart stuff... first problem, see my previous answer
alot of users like the videos dual with title screen,
other users want only boxarts since they don't have space for videos
other wants dual videos with boxarts
others want big videos and big boxarts
others want only screenshots
etc...
etc...
etc...

YOU CAN set the video preview and the screenshot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
but YOU CAN'T set the screenshot window and the boxart window (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

in the mark of the wolves image, you'll notice, there is 4 sprites here:
-the video window(the user can set it everywhere he wants
-the rombrowser blade (same thing)
-the top banner (the user can choose between differents banners from the sprites folder)
-the flyer/boxart "nude" sprite (a sprite that create a shadow back of the garou flyer)

You are right, XPORT has done wonderfull work about the skin config and the sprites config,
but few people have used its full potential; my dynamic skins are compatibles with old XPORTS emus (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

You are right again, i have put 14 differents "presets"(madmab has added the "load skin config" option in his future releases)
that the user picks from in each dynamic skin
So the user can switch in 3seconds between

HDTV or SDTV big movies_big boxarts
HDTV or SDTV big movies_big previews
HDTV or SDTV big previews only
HDTV or SDTV boxarts only
HDTV or SDTV med movies_med boxarts
HDTV or SDTV med movies_med previews
HDTV or SDTV only med previews

for HDTV presets the video window and the boxart sprites are stretched, so they aren't distorded in HD.
perheaps you can dl one of my lasts dynamic skins (in the XPORT section) to understand the stuff?

That's great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Does 720p have an impact on the frame rate on games?

Yes.

Yes. However, if the game was emulating at 200 FPS, it doesn't matter if it loses 10 FPS when run at 720p. It still is running at 60 FPS.

QUOTE

I don't know.

I am not trying to get 100% compatability. I'm trying to get what I have fixed. Then I will release it. The goal of this is not to replace emulators on the Xbox that allready emulate these games. It is to add new games that are not playable anywhere else or playable in HD resolutions.

sounds awsome nes, when you say requests do you mean gui features, games or what? just want to make sure i ask beforehand so i know exacttly what kind of requests you mean. We all really appreciate all the hard work you are putting into this.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

As far as the games are concerned, is the majority like galaxy force II, rail chase etc, running a full 60fps? And about how many games do you estimate will be new for this? Im just curious. lol  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Hey nes, greetings and respect! I use FBA XXX pro v1.26 right now and i'm happy with it (my previous emu was kawaks). However sega's galaxy force and any game from similar boards don't show up in my roms menu (is this normal?) and thats why i want to use legends instead...

So, in your opinion, should i use legends for neo-geo cps2 etc too? Or should i stick with pro and use legends for galaxy force and similar games only? I'm asking because i don't know if my Neogeo - CPS roms will be compatible with it...

Thanks in advance and thanks for the work you (and all the others like xport, BritneySPAIRS) do in XBOX emulation scene  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't know what the actual status of your project nes6502, especially Neogeo drivers.

As the new FBA-XXX Pro is available now: http://www.1emulatio...view=getnewpost

You can probably use the neogeo code. I put a lot of work in it, and actually looking at get 100% games working. Feel free to use that code in your FBA Legend, if you want it of course wink.gif

Good luck for your project.

Thanks. I may use some of the code. I'm sick of working on the NeoGeo code. You might want to make the saving of the cache files an option. A complete set of cache files for all NeoGeo games is over 8 GB. A user might not have an extra 8 GB of space to spare. I wrote a PC tool that will generate the cache files. You could have the user generate the cache files in advance for only the games they want. If it finds the cache files, it would use it, otherwise use VM or just regular RAM. Let me know if you want it.

The games my port doesn't support are:

Some NeoGeo games
Most PGM games
DD Crew
CPS3

All those either require VM or don't work.

Everything else seems to work. Of course I havn't tested all 1600 games.

Honestly i donno. As i have a lot of space on my HDD, and it's the easiest way for me. Generate all the files required on PC would probably difficult for some users (that's even sure). Whatever you can modify the code as you like.

The only thing i suggest you it's take the totality of the code and not simply a part. In fact, the old code was a merge code of diffrent build, and there was problems which i can't definitly explain lol.

That new one is exactly the same as latest FBA, with Xbox improvements, so extremely clean (much more as before).

Unfortunatly, I'm not going to meet the deadline. You will get to play it soon. I am almost 100% on the GUI and the features that I intended to add. I am working on the compaability. It's about 90%. Somebody send this man a debug box for his efforts.  Damn... even my tinkering ass has one.  Wish there was a way I could send you one under the guise of anonymity, but you know how that goes.  Gotta be careful today, right?

Thanks for the hard work man,

PS..... Incidentally, I do think that updating the emulators is a great idea.  One of my hopes is that in getting the Xtras and Madmab's freakin awesome emulator updates with Gilles' nearly-perfected Dynamic Skins out there will be incentive enough to bring the top-notch coders around this way again to breath new life in the "compatibility" element of these emus.

I'm still waiting on Xenophobia for Atari 7800, Time Lord on NES and X-COM for Playstation.....

And that PS3 emulator I've been hearing so much about.....

Those games runs on FBA-XXX Pro, i removed it atm cause they make the emulator unstable. I don't know if i will put them back, moreover if Final Burn Legend can handle different stuff as FBA-XXX Pro that would be pretty cool. Both haven't the same goal wink.gif

Yeah I know, it seems he ported these Sega games from the original Dave's Final Burn which drivers are less cpu intensive than the actual FBA ones enabling they run at 60fps, but apart from that, the FBA-XXX would do the same and more because the addition of iq 132 drivers, so is like you said the two have different goals, I'm particularly curious to see how good his port run these games   laugh.gif

I had wondered myself why you removed those games kenshiro but now i understand since it makes the emu unstable.

Post by: nes6502 on February 10, 2009, 07:34:00 PM
Sorry about the slow replies to this thread or anyone who sent a PM. I havn't done any coding since Christmas. Adding the Final Burn core to the current GUI will be a major pain. I'll probably just fix what I have and release two emulators. Final Burn Alpha (AKA Final Burn Legends) and a stand alone version of Final Burn 0.157. Final Burn Legends will play all the games Final Burn 0.157 will play, just not fullspeed. If people care they can use that version to play those 7 games. I will release everything February 24th.

Seven Sega games from Dave's Final Burn 0.518: After Burner 1/2, Rail Chase, Power Drift, Galaxy Force, Super Thunder Blade, G-Loc and Outrun.
That means the other Sega games like Turbo Outrun and Super Monaco GP will work in Final Burn Legend, but just not fullspeed right?

So none of the games are going to run full speed in FBA Legends?  sad.gif   Or are we talking about just the seven new ones not running full speed?

Incidently, does anyone knowexactly which build of Final Burn XXX played Powerdrift? I understand from other comments here that the driver was ommited from recent versions; I'd realy like to play powerdrift,Galaxy force and Thunderblade:-)

Many thanks and pleasekeep up the great work Nes6502:-)

The port is not dead. Sorry to everyone who was waiting for the port by not making the deadline. It's been at 99.9% complete since December. I havn't looked at the code since Feb. I didn't do all that work not to release it. Anyway, I will try to motivate to finish this port and release it ASAP.

ph34r.gif  See Nes your FinalBurn port is the last chance we have to play these Sega Games on the Xbox, actually Kenshiro FBAXXX-Pro is doing an excellent work with his emu , but he ditched Sega drivers to maintain focus in NeoGeo and CPS1/2 drivers. I can't wait for your fba build laugh.gif

Kenshiro's post has THE most up to date CPS2 and NeoGeo drivers from the most recent FBA 2.97.  1emulation went down due to hackers mad.gif  but he was almost finished getting 1.29 perfect.  Only about eight to 10 games don't run, but he had those fixes worked out before we got hijacked.  His version would have been complete by now.

I hope he releases another build when they come back next week.  He's also a really cool guy.

It's good to see you still hanging in there, nes.

You don't have an idea how i'm excited by this build! I looked forward to it for months, not to play with it, but of course to have fun with the sources, and seeing what i gonna had to it (i mean for personal usage), especially with Neogeo stuff and Cave.

BTW Nes6502 if you need help or something let me know.

Mooooo!

Hello Kenshiro!  How is it going?  I hope you have taken a nice vacation.

Remember those things I tested for you on 1emulation? Are you going to release another build of your version to fix them?  1.29 is almost perfect, aside from a few NeoGeo and Others games that don't run.

I've been watching this topic from the shadows for a very long time. Its one of the most exciting projects on site. I didn't even know CPS3 emulation was possible on Xbox until I saw this youtube video.

This needs a new thread. I was reading these posts thinking WTF does Power Drift have to do with CPS3? Then it turns out it's all about a port of FB.

Anyway sounds fun, can't wait to see it.  happy.gif
