Title: *how To Lock A Hard Drive*

I Have A Xbox That Keeps On getting error message 5 and that means the hard drive cant access the xbox bios so if any one knows how to do this or knows of any links that explain this please post them or pm me.

that doesnt mean that.

an error 5 means that the hard drive is unlocked, and a retail bios cannot boot an unlocked hard drive.


to fix it, lock the drive using your eeprom.

Okay.  How about OTHER THAN XBOXHDM, is there an alternate way to lock the hdd???

Of course there is!

Use Evox, it has a locking option.
or
Use Configmagic, also has a locking option.

Beware in all cases you'll need either the (un)locking code or an eeprom backup (eeprom.bin)

although, I'd think he'd have trouble booting the xbox without a chip or tsop flash & and an unlocked drive  :P   So you may need to use xboxhdm , but only if you have your eeprom.

I know ... just answered the question and included a warning ;-)


(and yes he'll end up with xboxhdm, but it IS possible to lock otherwise, grin)
