Title: Xenium Install Help
Post by: jameswalter on February 01, 2005, 01:52:00 AM
The multicolored wire is for the LED panel and isn't necessary, the USB thing is so you can connect USB devices to your controller port if you want.  The other 2 wires are for if you have a version 1.5 and one is for ground, the other for 3.3V

Did you rebuild the LPC on the back of the motherboard?  Your solder joints look kinda off....are you sure they extend down into the LPC holes?

So you soldered the extra 4-5 wires on the backside...if so then you should be done.  Try booting with the eject button to see if it works.

No...they are not needed....the 2 wire combo is for 1.6 Versions for the blue xenium and the other multicolor wire is for the led module (also shown)  that can be placed in the front of the xbox.

It does seem interesting that you don't need the Alternate 5V point like the X3 does though.

I have installed a few Xeniums and I have never seen one upside down like yours, they print XENIUM on top for a reason. Also your dont need to solder the chip with a pin header install the plug that is on top of your chip just slides onto the pin header. Also the wires on your LPS rebuild dont match any of the TUTs i have.

My apolagies you have done a step you didnt need to, you either do a Pin header or a quick solder you have a mixture of both, once the pin header was done you could have just plugged it in rather than solder, but it should work as is.

Just put the motherboard back in and connect up the power/eject wire and turn it on with the eject button....the OS will load without the DVD/HD hooked up....be sure to unplug the box again when going to put everything back in if it works.  Quicksolder is easier IMO, but you only needed to do one...hopefully its right.

Being a 1.6 the LPC rebuild was needed but with the pin heade install you could have just plugged the chip in.

You need to replace the mother board and power up to test but you can leave the DVD ans HDD out until you see what happens.

Have you started it with the eject button? also check the D0 as if that is not right it will boot form the original bios. What colour does the led on the xenium flash when you start.

do u think the error is pertaining to the physical modification of the chip to the box? or could it be the new HDD with the BIOS on the chip? thanks

Post by: ItchyB on February 01, 2005, 03:46:00 AM
I would guess that the d0 is not correct, if the chip led lights up the chip has power but with out a D0 it wont launch the OS so the original BIOS loads, with a new HDD which is probably not locked it will throw an error code.

What is the error code it gives?

From what I can see in your pics everything is going to the right spots so maybe check all your solder points to make sure you have a good connection and no bridged connections. you could desolder the chip but it may not plug into the pin header unless you clear all the solder.

I'm back...sorry...trouble in the fab...

It sounds like their may be solder splash near the video chip which is where you solder the D0 (actually LFRAME) point.  Check there first.

ahh nice to see ur back.... thanks for all ur help guys.... i thought i made a flawless solder with teh D0 point but i will check to see if i had "splash". so should i even TRY to undo the chip from the pinheader and plug it in... or do u think that is OK...

reason as to why i am doubting it is the D0 wire is because the xbox eject led is flashing green and red which indicates FRAG and that means the D0 is installed corerctly

I would wire it to the backside of the motherboard...I can't find a single install guide that recommends it to be installed on the front D0...

The tut he is pointing at only indicates the upper D0 so he has followed the instructions as given. but the symptoms would suggest a faulty D0 and maybe a bridged connection.

so this "bridge" in the D0 solder would result is washed out color?

I guess try to unsolder and resolder everything....are you sure that all the LPC holes didn't get stripped when you desoldered the pinheader....that was you earlier right

Try desoldering the D0 completley and clean up the point, reboot the xbox and see  what the colours are like.

Looks ok, led should light red then go green when it takes over from the original BIOS

Are you getting any output on the screen?  I may be wrong about the LED changing colour the tuts say it glows red meaning ok, I have been playing with led on mine which is what i looked at.

Take some rubbing alcohol and clean the board up around the video chip.  Washed out colors still indicates a problem their and not with the chip.

i cleaned alot of diff areas with rubbing alcohol... but that was not seccuessful... when i leave the xbox on showing the service screeen for a while the screen starts to flash darker but never stays... in the upper left is the error code 07

I would plug the fan in as the chips get very hot very quickly I had a faulty fan that caused all sorts of interesting display issues.

error 7 = no HD.  I can't really tell much from that pic either...did you check the underside for solder splash or possible issues with the video chip?
