Thats why I got confused. I am looking for the solution to mod the xbox without opening the box.
I have following setup:
1) MS Memory Card
2) self made controller with USB connector (for PC)
3) Mechassult original game
4) Action Replay software
5) HIV Drivers
6) ltools_MA_v1.8.rc1.zip (downloaded from usual places).
The last thing I am not sure what version of xbox I am having the following I've got from system info
K:1.00.5838.01
D:1.00.5960.01
Do i require something else before I go ahead.
That tutorial also didn't mentioned that how do I am gonna backup the (I don't know what to say maybe ROM)
Can I just do it without the backup.
If something screwedup Can I un-do those steps?

ok shyboy1....when you unrar the initial file that you downloaded...you get part1.zip and part2.zip.....ok
right.....open the folder containing these two files and then open action replay software..(rem to put your mem card into the usb cable into the pc)
now simply drag each file (press left click of mouse and hold ...then drag it over to "pc database" where the action replay saves are.
once you have done this for both files simply select each of the two files in the the pc databace and drag over to memory card section in AR....they will now be transferred onto your memory card and a progress bar will show when it is completed.

I made sure that the Mechassault is the right version which exploit.
Now ltools_MA_v1.8.rc1.zip I thougt will work with Mechassault.

BTW I don't have the SC file to work with splint cell.

OK I got a problem.
When I hookup the controller with the PC. It said that new hardware found and then put the driver itself. (unknown device). I tried to forcefully installed the driver (HIV Drivers) but it didn't take.
It said
Can not continue the hardware updat wizard.
choose what you want
to keep the current software click finish.
to search again in another location click back.
I am stuck on this part. It even don't do anything after putting the memory card on the controller as well.
What should I do now. I am using windows xp professional.
Please advise.

is there any spcific type of USB plug should I use or I can use anyone.
I am asking because the USB plug which I am using I took it from the USB extension lead.
Its not a mouse one.
And I am not sure that is this is a USB 1.x or USB 2.0 cable plug. Does this matter?
The wires and connections are exactly as it was shown on the tutorial.
Please somebody help me.

Sorry man I can't help you with the HIV drivers (I used a mega-x-key) but I can help you with your softmod.
A few things to remember:
1. When you copy the mechassault savegame over make sure your mechassault savegame directory is empty.
2. Once ltools is running press B to bring up the UDE install menu.
3. With your kernal version you will have to use UDE2.
4. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR XBOX UNTIL THE FRONT LED FLASHES GREEN.
Other than that your preferences are completely up to you so good luck, and sorry I'm no help with your driver problem.

usbview.exe didn't work in my case, it doesn't show the device in there.
it shows under universal serial bus controller in device manager.
There is no (!) or (?) there which shows that the driver is missing.
Also under device status its shows the following info.
No drivers are installed for this device.
If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.
Please advise what next step I can take.

Just install the Action Replay software and drivers. No need for that other stuff.
After that, your Mem Card should be detected when you plug it into your controller, and then plug your controller into a USB port (provided there are no wiring issues).

Thats the problem I am having. Memory card is not getting detected unless the Controller drivers is installed.
I tried in that way as well and nothing happened after inserting the Memory Card on controller (It should popup and says that new hardware found).
Infact after launching the AR I can't drop the files there (ofcourse I know that the drivers are not installed yet).
I have tried to put the driver which is on AR drivers directory but no luck
I think I can't goto the next step untill I installed the right driver for controller.
Also I have notices that the Controller which they shows on the picture is different than mine, I don't know which one they used but I have "MS Controller S"
Please help.

Hey i have installed the UDE2 softmod hack one a few xboxes with the same kernal and dash version as yours..i found a really easy to use installer on xbins...PM me and i will send it to you...all you have to do is gain ftp access to the box and then backup the C drive...then erase the entire C drive and copy the default.xbe file and the FONTS folder to the drive and reboot...and its softmodded and ready to play some backups or load some programs

Infact I am hooking it up on my USB 1.x socket in my computer, it should use this cable as a usb 1.x but not sure whats going wrong here.
Have anyone experement to connect the controller with the USB 2.0 socket or connector???

ok I changed the cable today and it took all the drivers and ready with AR
After running the AR when I drop from pc database to memory card. the icon goes grey from green and status message shows that failed to enumerate with memory card.
but it shows the splint cell folder in memory card and two parts which I dropped from pc database to memeory card are shows as unname saved.
the logo goes from green to grey time by time, infact I just dropped it once.
Also i treid and put the card with xbox and reboot it, it didn;t took anything or boot from memory.
please advise my friend what to do now.

Please somebody tell me that what to do.
Now I have intalled controller with my PC. have AR have MS memory card.
I tried to copy the savegames from xbox to memory card. then I took the memroy card and connect it with my pc. I can see the folder with the game name but the folder is empty. when I mouse over it. It shows that 0 game saves.
I droped the part1.zip and part2.zip on the pc database there was no problem with it.
When I move the LINUX_Profile from PC database under Splint Cell and droped to memory card. It says
Error writing the save!
After that when I refresh the memory card. It shows me one folder and one file there. Folder name Unnamed Title and filename is Unname save.
It takes 0 blocks.
I can format the memory card with no error.
Any idea what wrong.
I tried to install the memory card and controller couple of time and restarted it everytime each intall.
please somebody help me.

After dropping from windows explorer to the PC database. I only need to drop the Splint Cell gamesave from PC Database to the memory right?

one thing I noticed which is when I copied the games from xbox to the memory card and connect back to AR on PC it only shows me one game which is Crimson Skies.
and that folder is empty. When I mouse over on it says 0 saves. what does it mean. Why the other three games which I saved to the memory card doesn't show up on the PC.
BTW when I format the memory card. The green light goes to grey just for a sec and then the card is being formatted. (i.e. no error while formatting).
Is it something wrong with my memory card????
its MS Memory card.

just an update that I was keep refreshing the memory card. and just once I saw the all three game saves on memory card. But only once and when I try to copy from memory card to the pc database. it said not a valid xbox game save.
and then when I refresh the memory card again. those games goes away.
dunno but I saw those three games once only which i saved from xbox.
I am keep trying please post if you know something about it.

if you are busy backing up h/d then you'd be better leaving the problem with action replay until backup is completed.

well the flashing green light means the backup is done.
I choose UDE2 and meeto as a bios and evox as a dashboard.
now after doing all the patch. the gree light is flashing again.
is it mean that its done?

mate , i used ude1 ,mxm, and pbl-metoo...not that familiar with your dash...better to get advice from someone who has similar setup.......if it has returned to the screen that you startded off with , then i would say it has completed....it does take a wee bit of time to b/up.

After running the AR when I drop from pc database to memory card. the icon goes grey from green and status message shows that failed to enumerate with memory card.
but it shows the splint cell folder in memory card and two parts which I dropped from pc database to memeory card are shows as unname saved.
the logo goes from green to grey time by time, infact I just dropped it once.
Also i treid and put the card with xbox and reboot it, it didn;t took anything or boot from memory.
please advise my friend what to do now.

Now I have intalled controller with my PC. have AR have MS memory card.
I tried to copy the savegames from xbox to memory card. then I took the memroy card and connect it with my pc. I can see the folder with the game name but the folder is empty. when I mouse over it. It shows that 0 game saves.
I droped the part1.zip and part2.zip on the pc database there was no problem with it.
When I move the LINUX_Profile from PC database under Splint Cell and droped to memory card. It says
Error writing the save!
After that when I refresh the memory card. It shows me one folder and one file there. Folder name Unnamed Title and filename is Unname save.
It takes 0 blocks.
I can format the memory card with no error.
Any idea what wrong.
I tried to install the memory card and controller couple of time and restarted it everytime each intall.
please somebody help me.

Is it that I am missing some steps?? or somthing else.
After dropping from windows explorer to the PC database. I only need to drop the Splint Cell gamesave from PC Database to the memory right?
