Title: My Thomson Drive Sucks!
Post by: MHolodak on January 10, 2004, 01:36:00 PM
I have burned an Xiso of EvoX to a Memorex CD-RW and tried it in my XBOX 40 times (no joke, 40) And it keeps giving me this error, "Your XBOX can't recongnize this disc". My X-BIT is enabled and my Bios is flashed with the 4890 Xecuter Bios... This is getting me very frustrated! Im trying the dummy file trick but maybe I am not doing it right... grr.gif

I know, I have researched what media is the best with XBOX Thomson drives on some websites and people from this forum many people say Memorex is the best for Thomson.

Perhaps your not burning it right.  You should definately need a dummyfile if it won't read after 40 tries without one.

and bout dummy files
only way you can mess that up is if you put em at end of a disc instead of beginning
00.dat will put it at the beginning more than likely unless u have filenames that are before that...
when i consider using dummy files, i dont make an iso, i just burn the contents to disc and usually use a 300MB dummy on 4MB programs
but all this is a thing in past anymore unless ya just starting out

edit: i suggest using nero or something cuz it's very easy to do correctly
and i just checked, i have a few memorex cdrw discs with stuff and of course they do have some issues and takes a few minutes to get working at times

tribefiend, explain to me how you made your dummy file? I made a zip folder and I put 530 mbs of stuff in it and put all took all the EvoX stuff and made an Xiso with Craxtion (w/ both the Evo X and dummy file in the ISO). Does this sound right to you or is there something I am doing wrong..

easy way to make dummy files is using a hex editor or find a dummy file maker
DCemulation should have one and so should megagames in the dreamcast section

So rob, you didnt even make an xISO you just put all the files in Nero with the dummy on the top and the EvoX stuff under it?

All of these dummy creators are bogus on megagames. They arent for what I need to do. Some are from music and others used in DOS...

...all you gotta do is create a file of certain size, those creators do it fine
then rename to 00.dat or something

Ok, well I downloaded the dummy file called Dummy File Maker. And right when I open it, it opens the command screen and immediatley blinks off the screen. All the thing I downloaded is is some program called dummy is this what I make bigger? Can you explain how I make it bigger?

well im not going to get into a "who's dick is bigger" contest with you but wtf, he said he can't get the disc to be read in the first place ass
if i missed something then owell but i dont think i did
what i got out of this is that he is trying to boot it in the first place, not config the damn thing first

your telling him all this shit and it's usless why make him download this stupid program when you just need to burn it to a disc and itll read.

Listen dude,
Thomson's suck ass. Theres no doubt about it.
the only Cd's that work are basically Memorex CD-RW's and Vertabrim CD-RWS
If your using other then this its probably not gonna work.
Also it wont just take 1 try. Its going to take maybe 20 times or more sometimes it depends.
So try what i said.

I also forgot to add that when u download evox make sure the evox.ini has your IP settings all corect so youll be able to ftp if you need too. Then make the iso using Craxation

You dont need a dummy file at all but if you want one just add a folder in the evox folder and name it Crap or something and then put like 200 megs of shit in it then make the ISO thats it

What nobody has mentioned yet is burning the disc at the slowest possible setting. On my burner that's 2x.
