well guess I have to learn to format my questions better, been asking about this for last 24 hours , got a few replies but not like this. Anyway, I just got refurbed unit from EB here on east coast, by its date of 2002-05-06 I think it is a version 1.0. I been asking if I want to try to get a 1.1 and have received mixxed answers. From what I can tell I should try to get a 1.1 to make my chances of using a burned cf-r work rather than hoping a cd-rw will work. (in other words, hope i get the 1.1 with samsung drive) I have no lot or mfg location as I can't open the box. |

Ah you meant box as in box the "xbox" came in....that was unclear :-) That would be a good trick if you could figure it out! |

For mods, you need to boot off of the cd and the samsung has been confirmed to read cd-rs fine. Phillips has some trouble and I've only heard bad news about the Thomson. For those other two drives you'll have to actually make a DVD-r for the xbox to see it. |

Because Samsung Drives cost less. It's all about the quotes for the parts. I mean PS2 have changed parts 7 times to lessen the cost. |

Same last five digits as me, but I have a WD HDD, so I don't think the HDD is relevant. |

You can tell its a Samsung when you eject the DVD drive and it has 3 holes instead of he U-shaped hole or an upside down lightbulb-shaped hole. |
has the 246xx number, made in Mexico, and mfg'd on 11-23-2003 if anyone was curious.
