Title: Advice Needed For Tsop Flash W. No Dvd
Post by: joan23 on July 12, 2013, 07:26:00 AM
after reading all of the above i have tried all the bioses mentioned but none of them worked i flashed the bios using aid and hexen.. with evox m8+ both with normal and fc and also executer fc and eject fix literarally all bioses that can be used in a 1.0 i tried but after flashing and rebooting without cd rom all have yield negative result as in evox it freezes in flubber and in executer it stops in xbox logo in yoshi it says error code 12 and in ind bios it freezes also.. is there a bios that i can download and put to aid and flash it..? i would prefer evox based personalized bios so that i can remove all the broken cdrom in xbox 1.0 to 1.6 and not having to redo all the hdd again as it sometimes dont see the partition especially g in some bios after a flash..?? thanks ..

Hi,
I have a softmodded (hotswapped) 1.0 xbox and a broken dvd drive. I can borrow a temp spare drive. Id like to convert to no dvd via TSOP flash. I have a couple questions:
1) Which is the best bios to use for 1.0?
2) Can i use HeXen to flash the TSOP? My main purpose for TSOP is to boot with no DVD drive.
3) Ive read multiple times about major lag during boot time with no dvd and XBMC as dash. Has anyone figured this out?
4) Should i desolder the leaky clock cap? It leaked out but it didnt corrode any traces or transistors. I cleaned it w alcohol. Will it continue to leak more.

Thanks.
Ken

1. X2 5035
2. Yes
3. I don't think I've ever noticed extended boot times.
4. Yes, desolder it. Once a cap starts to leak, it will continue to leak.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there an option under HeXen that give you the option to boot with no DVD? Or is it "no DVD check at boot" by default?

If you use X2.5035 then I'm fairly certain it has the no DVD option selected. If not then just edit E:\x2config.ini.

I found this while doing some research:

It [x2 5035] also requires you to have a config file in the root of your E: drive. It takes time for the Xbox to boot because the HDD need to be init before reading the config file and then the flibber animation starts. You can cut the boot time by disabling the animation. I don't find that bios particularly useful because once your settings are in place, you won't change them really often.

1) So does X2 5035 take that much longer to boot?

2) When removing the Aerogel cap, should I do it at the same time as soldering for the TSOP flash? Not sure if the Ndure3.1 hotswap softmod allows me to boot with no date and time.

3) Do I just desolder and leave it empty? I read that you have to set the time everytime and can't play alot of games? Is this true?

1. The extended boot time isn't significant (no more than a few seconds). You can always flash a new bios if you find it to be a problem.
2. Ndure 3.1 should be fine without the cap. You can remove it now.
3. You can leave it empty. I don't have any personal experience with what happens if the clock isn't set because I use XBMC's auto clock set function (which requires internet connectivity), but it's not really an issue unless your Xbox loses power, and even then, you can just set the clock.

Thanks. I think I'm almost ready.

So if using Hexen to TSOP flash, do I still need to rebuild and remove softmod after I flash to the new bios? Or does Hexen do all of that automatically?

And if so, does Hexen also install a hacked dash after rebuild?

Your softmod will simply stop working after you flash the TSOP and you'll boot into whatever dash you specified in the config. Hexen has an option to return your files to stock and it will install a new dash for you along with the correct config file.

I edited a copy of hexen to flash from hard disk so you dont need a dvd drive at all..
you can find it by googeling
hexen for hard disk drive not dvd

do not use it to format E though.

Thanks Shambles for editing Hexen, but what is the advantage of not using a DVD drive to do TSOP flash?

Also, why should I not format E:? Is it b/c that where the dash files are?

Sorry, I'm not getting this.

Can someone give me a quick run through with Hexen with X25035 bios TSOP and no DVD? I'd really appreciate it.

well i edited it so people with a broken dvd drive like you can still flash the tsop using hexen.
you dont use it to format E because hexen for hard disk drive is On E..

the only benefit is that you dont need to borrow a dvd player.

basically.
you CAN flash the tsop without a dvd drive with it.
you CAN rebuild the C partition after a tsop flash..
You Can NOT use it to rebuild the whole hard disk,
You can not use it to upgrade a softmodded hard disk to a larger softmod hard disk..

Anything that would remove hexen from the hard disk should not be used..
hope that makes sence

ftp hexen for hard disk drive to your xbox..
however if you are finding it dificult to understand then i would probably advize you borrow a dvd player and use the hexen dvd.

I think he's saying that his DVD drive is broken to the point that his system won't boot without an error, in which case the only option is to install a working DVD drive.

So I soldered the points today. I placed Hexen disc in, chose option 3 (TSOP), and then option 3.2.

It started to copy over some files, then it says "Error copying to E:, error code 0".

It then takes me to a menu where it gives me BIOS options. I was going to choose 512kb X2 5035 for my v1.0, but chickened out because of the previous error code.

I am using the stock WD hard drive.

how was it softmodded and and do you have free space on e?

P.S
Id use the 256k IND bios if i was you.
it will expand to the correct size if its to small..

it also works as default with no dvd drive connecxted so you dont need to mess with any files afterwards.

but 1st make sure you have space on E: (delete a game or something if you have some on there)

if your using a really old softmod maybe you should upgrade it using the hexen disk 1st also.
if your having issues doing that then ask about that too.

the hexen DVD is really usefull and even if your dashbpard is not upto date we can fix that thatnks to haveing all the files needed on the dvd.
But you have to do some stuff manually.

but again for now, just check you have the free space available as thats all you should really need.

Do you have HeXEn burned to DVD-R at 4x or slower?

1,2. Try clearing the cache (E:\cache) and the X, Y and Z partitions.
3. You have to press A twice to get the skin changes to stick. It isn't a bug, it's a deliberate feature - the first press loads the skin into memory but doesn't change the config, so that if the skin has a bug that makes the menu unusable then on the next reboot it reverts to the original skin. The second press changes the skin selection in config.xml.

now that you have tsoped the xbox you just put in a new hard disk "when the xbox is off". and start the xbox with the hexen dvd in the drive.
Follow all on screen instructions.

when thats done and your in the hexen menu what i then do is.
go to applications.
run Xbpartitioner and make the drive the size i want it to be.
then go back to the hexen menu (back button on the controller 3-4 times)
then select clean c partition after tsop flash.

you can also simply select the build new hard disk option.
but i like to do it manually.

Yes, you just delete the contents of X,Y and Z, but the HeXEn Clear Cache option does that for you. If that hasn't fixed the problem then maybe your disk is failing or faulty, or maybe your expectations of instantaneous booting are just a bit too high.

Config Magic doesn't do hard drive upgrades. It will give you the eeprom so you can use xboxhdm....

Of course HeXEn does hard drive upgrades, for softmod and hardmod Xboxes. The menu is fairly obvious, and has loads of instructions - try having a look around.....

The HeXEn automated version does the same thing as your manual version - but with fewer keypresses and less to remember. smile.gif

my no dvd box (tsop w/m8+) would lag a bit during the boot up and in my evox menu, figured out it was because i was using the should-be dvd power cord to run a small fan. the only reason i noticed is because the tray status in the top corner of evox would bug out... moved the fan to run off the hard drive power line and no more laggy-ness

Re-read your post more carefully. Nothing is running off the yellow connector. It's just unplugged.

http://www.youtube.c...ZuqfcI2f8#t=42s

This youtube video is much much faster than my boot time. Does a chip boot faster than a TSOP flash?

BTW, I don't have an F: drive, only E: and C: - Wondering if this could be causing the slow down?

x2config.ini now first searched on F: and, if not found, on E: - if again not found then defaults are used

You may want to try another bios.. iND or M8+ ...at least to eliminate the bios as an issue. If you still think you have a problem with a different bios you'll know the problem is somewhere else.

So the yellow connector that goes into the DVD drive powers both the DVD and fan?

How did you use the HD power connector to power the fan? A splitter and a converter of some sort?

yeah used a splitter as i made a slim box and the stock fan wouldnt fit. i powered the new fan off the hd power line in case it drew too much power (idk how many watts/amps you can suck out of the fan plug and the dvd drive power lines apparently dont like being used by things that arent dvd drives)

i would do what movax suggested and try another bios, m8+ always worked fine for me (allows booting without dvd), and i love tweakin the hell out of the boot logo colors with evtool

Is there a limit to how many times you can flash a BIOS before it starts to go bad?

The chip is a standard flash memory chip, so can be reprogrammed ~1,000,000 times - see this typical data sheet.
