Question for the people that have used the brake cleaner method.. It removed the white stuff and green paint right? Did it keep the chrome in the "xbox" letters intact? If it doesn't harm the chrome part then awesome.. but I learned from a friend while washing her car tires that it's important not to get brake dust onto the car cos it'd ruin the paint ohmy.gif

Just to chime in on the toothpaste deal. Here is what I did after my jewel came out cloudy using nail polish remover.

1. Tape a piece of paper onto the kitchen table all the way around the paper
2. Put about a nickels worth of toothpaste in the middle of the paper
3. Add about three drops of water to thin the toothpaste out just a little
4. Put the jewel bottom down on top of the toothpaste
5. Rub the jewel around until the toothpaste dries out a little
6. Clean the jewel with water and check clarity
7. If the jewel is not clear yet repeat the process from step 2

Tips

1. The toothpaste will dry out and the jewel will become hard to move add a couple more drops of water
2. The paper needs to be taped down really well otherwise while you are buffing your jewel it will move around and not be as effective
3. Keep rubbing in a circular motion until your jewel is perfect it will take time but it will happen

Hope this helps someone.

peter

I really hope one of you guys cracks their jewel..

Brake fluid, paint thinner and anything of the like will crack the acrylic if left on too long

dont be cheap, just buy some acrylic polish and buff the paint off, plus it will be perfectly clear

isnt there a tut on the scene about how to use toothpaste, anyhow, wherever i read it, its nice to use a piece of tape and make it so you got like a flap sticking up and can use it to hold the jewel, if that makes sense.

did anyone here use blue paint on their xbox instead of red.  If so, i hope your xbox explodes and lodges a piece of plastic in your eye.  I just think people should use blue paint.

this is just one more vote for "oak- you are an ASS"

yea or u could use unneccesarily high grit sandpaper like i did... 12000 grit, works very well, stop being pansys with your toothpaste, and one idea about the toothpaste to teach everyone my moral, you get little teeny scratches on there is you use colgate cinnamon flavored shit with the crytals they arnt very friendly to the jewel.

ive tried this brake cleaner method  on 5 different jewels. It works but it clouds the jewel something awefull. The nice thing is after you are done you take your cloudy jewel and rub it with Brasso and i gets rid of the cloudyness quickly. End result a crystal clear jewel in about 2 minutes. Not bad! Im 5 for 5
