Has anyone tried a DVD backup, or are all these problems just related to backing up to the HD?

here's what i've tried:

cleared cache from e drive.  didnt work.  two files were there.  something like xxxxxxxx00.bin and xxxxxxxx08.bin.  forgot what came before the 00 and 08  but i deleted them and they reappeared.

was successful in acutally getting the game copied to my HDD, but when i try running from that i get the same dirty/damaged disc error.  so, clearing cache did nothing for me i dont guess.

I'm looking at avalaunch right now, and it shows a "dashupdate.xbe" file that's 57052kb on the ncaa 2006 disc.  Is this file needed, and could this possibly be what is keeping some of us from being able to run the game at all?  i have no clue, just a question.  There is also a "defeault.exe" and "update.exe" file that are not included in any subfolders.  These are the only three files not included in a subfolder.

I was going to post about this and looks like some others already have. Here's what I have.
Backup not working...will not boot at all.
Orginal will not boot at all...gets me to a generic X screen and that's it.

Interestingly enough, I also got Flatout and it will get me all the way to the loading screen for the game (i.e. past all the company splashes) and then locks. Backup and orginal.

Just softmodded this week and have had no problems with anything else.
I am thinking perhaps these games either:
1. Try to update the dashboard and then fail because of X-Evol or Avalaunch and then poop out
2. These are hitting a "double" digital rights manangement and pop out after the initial boot.

Anyone try an image minus those extra files yet? I am going to try and will report later.

If anyone else is having the Flatout issues please post as well... must be similar showstoppers on these (since they just both shipped very recently)

great!  glad to hear you're going to try without those files.  im trying to make an iso but am having trouble (see my other post on here near this one)... btw what is Flatout?

Flatout is the racing/destruction derby game that has been out forever in the UK that just came here.  In fact this very site has banner ads for it. It is most easily known as the one that lets you shoot your driver thru the windshield and play darts with them and all. The Xbox mag had a demo a few months back on it.

In fact, the banner ad says the 19th as a release date but I got it from a local chain store today...hmm wonder if they pulled a Harry Potter and get them out too early.

Tried leaving out the 2 extra files....
Still not working...  for those that have had sucess getting this to work...what is your config like? Chipped or softmodded? Evox or Avaluanch etc?
Keep in mind that I am talking about even getting the orginal retail disc to launch, not play off the hdd or a backup copy, although that would be the end result I would like.

**edit** also tried to rip it and also launch it with the pxhdd loader ... still no go

I am able to play my original, backup, and from the HDD.  I used the latest version of DVD2XBox (0.6.7) to back it up.  If you haven't updated to the latest version, try doing so.

That is the version I am running. I copied over to the hdd and also sent it to my computer and burned a copy (using the lastest Quix) and neither work. I also tried the pxloader to back it to the hdd and that cannot launch it either.
I am wondering if this is indeed a new protection or if there is maybe something wiggy on some folks setups that are showing up now. It is very likely that folks maybe using the same "package" of software if that one was most available at the time.
I will get ver. numbers etc.. on my stuff to post tonight to see if there is some kind of thread that we can identify to see what is up.

We'll get this one licked sooner or later...

What version of Evox are you running perchance? I am starting to think that this is the key...

Did you use the original or the copied disc to make the backup to your Xbox HDD?

GREAT NEWS!!!!

I have gotten the game to actually load!!!  4 files would not transfer, however.

What I did:

*Updated to newest dvd2xbox

All but 4 files were transferred.  One of which is an audio file, because there is no sound when the game loads.  Another, that I caught while watching the files transfer, was the movie file (100+ mb).  It got to about 50% then quit and went to the next file.  This is noticable, too, since the EA logo came up, and then went straight to the "press start" page.  now, as ive been typing this, the auto-demo came up, and got about 25% loaded and the game has just froze.  so there's something else that didnt get transferred i think.

I guess I will just have to make a list of every file on NCAA and check to see which ones are not on my xbox hdd.  if you dont have latest version of dvd2xbox, get it, and then run dvd2xbox.  we might not get every file transferred, but we're close, very, very close.

edit: ok... i just reloaded, and now i have sound.  so the sound file might be ify

2nd edit:  looks like im unable to play anything.  it loads 25% then locks up.  anyone know what file this would be?

Well, that is sorta further than I got. 100% of the files transferred fine for me (both to hdd and my network share) but I have never seen the EA logo. Or any other logo for that matter. Mine just goes to a black screen and stays there forever ,I just walked away for like 10 minutes and it never did anything.

Ditto for when I tried with the funky files mentioned earlier in the thread out of the image (on disc)

Anyone else making any headway?

so what would be the best way to transfer these remaining files onto the hd into the ncaa game folder?

use layout dumper and moogui, when you load the layout into moogui and then add your game files, it compares them and tells you what files are missing, and will not burn the disc until either the files are there or you edit the layout file and take away the missing files

I just modded my xbox this last weekend with all the latest stuff, I think.  I downloaded 06 three times before I got all files to load successfully, but my problem is a bad reader.  I havent tried to play it yet because I am caught up in 3 other games (area51,forza,pirates) But ultimately, I bought this game because I love the EA college football series, and love this game more than any in the past...Hopefully I am able to play this off of the HDD, but I shouldn't have a problem should I?

My son has been playing it with friend all day.
Also, game was backup to a dvd-r without a glinch
and been also played for several hours.
Trust me guys. It happened.

Well, mine works...didnt actually play, but loaded up each type of game and it loads past coin toss (first chance to quit game).  As far as I know mine works flawlessly.

im thinking it might be my dvd drive.  i tired dvd2xbox again, and it went back to 7 uncopied files... tried about 30 minutes later, and 25 uncopied!  does this sound like a dvd drive issue?

If you are having a problem. Why don't you just rent the game from your local video store, and back it up that way.

Ditto...have the original and cannot get it to run at all. Have never seen a single screen or a single bit of sound from it. It is very bizarre. I am thinking it has to be some sort of combination of softmod factors doing it as everyone that's chipped seems to be doing ok as well as some softmods. Hurts to have $50 just lying there not working but theres no way to get actual support since it's modded. Hate to swap in my old drive just to play one game though.

I  copied it to my hd successfully after about 5 tries. And it worked for about 2 weeks until 2day when it froze 3 times twice against fsu when i ran an option so i was thinking maybe it was just that but then it froze against ou on a run but all 3 plays where to the left.I doubt that's the reason it's freezin but it is weird.3 days ago i did have trouble getting it to load it would freeze after i selected on the unleash x menu. Then my xbox would turn on 3 times before it loaded up i dont no if its the game or the hd is dying.
Could it be that my hd is just dying or is it the game?
