Heres a nice list to look at
All in order!
|
which end is which... and most of those drummers are pretty average...
Beatles and ROlling Stones.. there songs were awesome and unique but i didn't think percusion was anything special.. like most of those bands.. blink 182 etc
Anthrax, you bring up alot of good ones. Epsecially alot of the underground/indie drummers such as Bob Bert/John McEntire, drummer from June Of 44, etc. etc. Are you into alot of bands like those?
QUOTE |
Larry Kilminster (Motorhead) |
Wow, talented guy - sings, plays bass and drums at the same time!
Or maybe you meant "Philthy Animal" Taylor?
Anyway, great list!
Just my opinions, please don't flame
Neil Peart = master of grade ten band class, never progressed past it
is the only drummer besides Danny Carey and Bonham(whose progression was cut short) that has been posted that has moved past gr 10 band class in my opinion
Best modern drummers = Dave Weckle/Steve Gadd/Dennis Chambers/Steve Smith/Omar Hakim
Note*** Good Rock Drummer is an oxymoron

I agree with Terry. Though I think Frank Zappa had drummers that more suited his sound, he was the best 'technically' drummer ever with any lineup of the mothers or just fz. |
Vinny Colaiuta played with Zappa so I honestly don't think Bozzio could even be considered the best to play with zappa let alone the best ever. Chad Wackerman had beter latin and caribbean chops than Bozzio so I think he was more suited to Zappa and his reggae parodies.
Missed this:

Jeff Porcaro (Toto) |
another good career that was cut short.
I'll add some old guys:
Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Kenny Clarke, Joe Morello
And the greatest ever : Tony Williams

Neil Peart all the way. Rush kicks ass.
Stewart Copeland is pritty sick with the hi-hat shit tho.....
what about Mike Portonoy (i dont remember the spelling) the drummer of Dream Theater. Now that guy is sick. but rumor has it he is full of himself....
Also, a solid, yet amazing all-around fantastic drummer is Chad Sexton from 311. listen to his sick use of a custom tuned high pitch picallo snare, and his sick 64th note rolls in the song "Fuck the Bullshit" to his reggae rythmic beats in songs like "Come origonal" He is a sick drummer. and like pert, he writes his own songs too: check out "Other side of things" he wrote that song. its my favorite on evolver.
lets not forget goood ole' Jess Margera from CKY.

For once in my humble life I bow to superior knowledge. Yes, very true re Chad Wackerman. Bozzio was a very "flashy" drummer, but with some self-indulgent stuff. Still awesome to watch tho'.
John Bonham (who I saw in the last LZ tour in 1980 - how old am I??!!) was a beast, but an effective one that fitted the band format.
But Colonel32 - you have great taste
Neil Pert gets my vote as well, very few people can hold complicated drum solos for as long as he can. Although I do have to say the drummer for Andromeda (Thomas Lejon) is a close candidate.
Keith Moon takes the cake of all time. to be able to play like that and NOT have a serious crank addiction = you're a god.
and me of course.
Dave groll best the eva will b

Very true. I've been a drummer for 25 years now and Dave Weckle is BY FAR the best I've ever seen during my time.

On Kazaa, if anyone has it, search for Danny Carey Solo. One of the craziest thing's you'll ever hear.

I just want to go on record and say Drumming is not a sport. Neither is Orienteering or Chess. Or Soccer for that matter.

Or Soccer for that matter. |
and my vote has to go to neil peart
also id like to add randy castillo, tommy lee, and the guy from sum 41 (the non-tommy lee drummer) i saw them in concert a few years ago and they impressed me, especially for a pop-rock band, lol

It's been quite a while since anyone referred to me as a "boy" Whatever.
I just can't grasp soccer as a real sport. Sorry guys.
i think a big reason people don't take it seriously is cause they think it's slow. keep in mind next time you see a game on TV that the fiel they play on is as WIDE as a fottball field is LONG. Then it puts some things in perspective

I played in highschool for a little bit, and then discovered I was much more adept at sports that required hand eye coordination rather than hand foot coordination. But I don't really put it on the same level as some other sports.
Without a doubt:
Keith Moon - The Who
John Bonhom - Led Zeppelin
I'm surprised nobody else has voted for John Bonham or Keith Moon.

... here's my thoughts... (noting that mostly I listen to music for the lyrics as I'm a poet at heart...)
Thought I love Motorhead and Slayer... the drumming is nothing spectacular... and I've seen both bands live (Motorhead twice and Slayer once) and own all the discs from both
and as far as Led Zepplin goes, John Bonham was good... I never heard anything that just wanted to make me get out of my seat though
I'm not familiar with many of the drummer on this list or the bands that they play for... but of the ones that I am familiar with and have listened too, my vote goes to:
Neil Peart - RushI saw them live years ago (hmmm 14 years ago now, Mr. Big was opened for them)... and Neil laid down the most kickin' drum solo I've ever heard... it was amazing... And I'm certainly no Rush fan, I could have done with a 45 minute shorter show as I only wanted to her 4 of their songs anyway...
best drummer
Lars Ulrich
and the guy from Rush
what was his name again?
never mind Neil Peart
im not sure if anyone posted him yet:
travis barker-blink 182
NEIL PERT RULES ALL DRUMERS
Richard John Cyril Allen... I think For A drummer To play with 1 arm is Excellent
This Is Him Here... If You Dont Know Who He Plays For It DEF LEPPARD
The drummer of The Berzerker > all:
http://www.angelfire...hi/VTS_05_1.avi (need DivX, 10MB download)
Also Tony Royster:

and some random black guy:

I really like Riley Breckenridge from Thrice. He can do double-bass with a single pedal, and when I saw them 2 nights ago he SNAPPED the metal on his bass pedal mallet 5 seconds into the first song. Awesome. He's not really the most technical, but watching him play is pretty awe-inspiring.
dave grohl is pretty good...
Jeremiah Green - Modest Mouse
Enough said. Just listen to "Tiny Cities Dade Of Ashes" and "Truckers Atlas". Too bad he left Modest Mouse though...
oh.. forgot to mention
john bonham - zepplin
Artemus Pyle - lynyrd skynyrd
John Bonham - the fact that Led Zeppelin couldn't go on without him surely has to put him in good stead (sp?)
