Title: New Korn Video Sends Powerful Message
Post by: SniperKilla on March 01, 2004, 12:56:00 PM
this video is awsome and it is very powerful coming from a band with as much "weight" behind them as KoRn

i suggest even non korn fans watch the video atleast once to read what it has to say..

http://search.launch...arch/all?p=korn

scroll down to videos and click on yall want a single..

for those on low bandwidth connections

the video is of them smashing a record store apart inside..

and it flashes messages up on the screen, which include

"music monopoly?"
"ONE corporation owns the 5 major video channels in the US"
"is that OK?"
"last year the BIG 5 record labels together sold about $25 billion dollars of music"
"90% of releases on major labels DO NOT make a profit"
"britney spears last video cost $1,000,000"
"this korn video costs $150,000"
"will any music channel play this video?"
"the music "industry" releases 100 songs per week"
"only 4 songs are added to the average radio playlist each week"
"hit songs on TOP 40 are repeated over 100 times a week"
"is that ALL you want to hear?"
"why is a song worth .99 cents?"
"do you download songs?"
"STEAL THIS VIDEO"
"this is a single"
"two radio comglomerates control 42% of listeners"
"the record company wanted us to change this video. we dident"
"90% of all singles get to "the hook" within 20 seconds"
"98% of all #1 singles are less then 3:30 seconds long"
"does this seem like a formula to you?"
"with all this said...."
"we love making music"
"is this the music "business"?"

it sends a very powerful and real message.. dont you think?

BTW.. this is NOT a thread for people to say "korn sucks" i dont want to hear it because i dont care about your opinion.. this is to comment on this video

Daaaamn.  I'm not even a fan of Korn but I think that video kicks ass.  NO WAY they'd show that on MTV.

Looks like they hate the RIAA even more than I do.   muhaha.gif

Also prove they are not one of the money hungry bands. They play music casue they like to, not just cause of the money.

Unless that is just a ploy to make them more money.... dry.gif

Of course they play music to make money.  Why do you think that you can walk into any record store and find CD's, T-shirts, posters, stickers, patches, etc of this band.  Just another one of those pissed off at the world, hot topic, rap metal crap bands.  Cool video though.

of course they need to make their money.. this is their lively hood.. they make pizza money off album sales.. real money comes from hitting the road and touring.

No, I am not some kid and I like a lot of bands that play original stuff.  There are so many unoriginal bands out there like Korn that pretend that they hate the system but they are all in it for the money.  I did say it was a cool video

Ummm...try Rage Against the Machine.  There are so many ripoffs of this band that it's pathetic.  Seriously though, everybody is entitled to their opinion.  I obviously don't like Korn.  You do.  End of story.  Do you like every band you listen to?  Should I put you down because you don't like something I like?  I said I didn't like the band and made a comment about how they are not just in it because they like to play music.  They are obviously doing something right because they are pretty popular.   I gave them props for the video though, so just chill.

seriously tho ween311, do you really think KoRn sound like RATM?

i'd like to hear zach singing "daddy" eh no actually, thats a VERY disturbing thought!

and KoRn aint exactly politically vocal

dont get me wrong, it'd be difficult for me to choose between KoRn & RATM- they are both leaders

its a matter of historical record, KoRn and deftones started at about the same kinda time giong in the same kinda direction, but from different backgrounds, and there was nothing like them at the time

No, I don't think that Korn sounds exactly like RATM but I think that they were heavily influenced by them.  I think that all the nu-metal bands were.  They took the fusion of rap and heavy metal and it just exploded.  I don't like any of the nu-metal bands really.  Maybe I am just stuck in the past......

theres not that much KoRn that has rap in it- its mostly a mix of singing and screaming (for want of a better word).

mr davis has a decidedly unique vocal style
messers shaffer and welch make a pretty unstoppable duo
mr silveria is remarkable,
and mr arvizu invented his own way of playing

compare to RATM:
one of the most talented rappers on the planet
one of the most talented & technical guitarists on the planet
a damn fine drummer and bassist to boot

i think the only continuity here is the fact they play instruments and play them very hard & heavy

I love Korn, They are a grate band that always gets my blood pumping...

If you like them, you should hear the groop nonPoint, their first album, Statement.  The second one was alot more mellow, but still good.

My friend (another big Korn fan) likes the band... Mushroom head (?) not sure that is the name, just remember the word mushroom.

I am a bit of a rocker, but I listen to anything (except Polka, not big on it).  In the same vein I HATE ClearChannel WorldWide, they can suck my ... can't think of anything vile enough, so I just end up listening to NPR.

you can not agree with something and still work with/for it...

99% of people dont agree with stuff their work/corperation does.. but they continue to work.. most dont say anything.. some do.. as korn did..

im sure there are plenty of people that dont agree with cigarettes that work at philip morris..
Title: New Korn Video Sends Powerful Message
Post by: Ween311 on April 26, 2004, 11:07:00 AM
I agree, but you don't see employees from Phillip Morris smashing up convenience stores and spouting off about how harmful and bad cigarettes are.  It's a moot point anyway.  The RIAA will keep doing what its doing and some bands will make money off it and try to sell the fact that they are so against the system.
