Oh yes, the good old Xbox-Scene days. Why did I only join in 2007 and not post in the forums earlier? :|
-
I was creepin' for awhile before joining. Not old school, but been around a few I guess.
I still come back every once and awhile to see what the kids are up to these days.
-
Get off our lawns! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I just can't believe how calm the X-Scene Forums have become over the last years. I mean, even in 2009 or so, there was a lot more posting action going on here.
-
...... zzz.....
-
This is the oldest forums account I have and all you guys are putting me to shame
-
Nice to see you guys still active. I don't have as much time to post now but I still mess around with my old consoles at the weekend. And come back here for information. I recently managed to get hold of a broadband adapter for my dreamcast, it's nice to play Quake III online on it. I have started buying old games again, because new games are quite expensive and with rent bills to pay. but all my old consoles are still in working order .
-
Steam rocks for games on the cheap.

In 2004 I was 14, I'm 23 now. This place was huge for me back then, I really think taking my xbox apart, painting it, soldering and chipping contributed greatly to my career choice. I'm now a industrial designer and thinking about what case mods I could do with my works' rapid prototyping machine makes me drool.
I'm quite sad that this place is quieter than it was in the glory days but thanks for the memories
A thing I don't remember is why I chose this username, I think I was going to paint a zebra pattern on my xbox.. hey I way 14!

You had a vision of the 'future', or you are secretly working for M$.
All the devkits from M$ for the next XBOX (aka) Xbox Loop, Xbox Fusion, Xbox n3xt, or just plain Xbox, have a ZEBRA pattern on their case and controller.

So many familiar names. Man, the memories. Welp, back to lurking!
-
yeah there definitely was more going on back when I was 15 when I joined originally. There was a few years where I didn't jump on here recently though. Life work n such effects things. More than half the time I wouldn't have to post because my question was answered too. I still jump on here every now and then for stuff and just to see whats new. Good to be apart of the old crowd, Gosh Am I getting old yet... Nah not till 40 or 60 band beyond which is a long time to go
-
I don't know why but I was sitting here tonight browsing the forums and an old memory popped into my head from fucking nowhere. Do any of you remember the member cheerio and the shit storm that started with him years ago. What ever happened to the kid? I remember hearing rumors of suicide or something like that. And while I'm on the topic, what ever happened to opjose? I remember him for being extremely knowledgeable back in the day.Anyway sorry for the trip down memory lane, carry on.

you can figure out how many posts someone really has by looking in their profile and seeing where they are most active, then divide the number of posts by the percentage
in chad000's case its 34/.27 = 126 posts
so yeah, total lurker

Haha yes, people have pointed this out to me before.
It actually came from the original tony hawks pro skater. I wanted to play the game and not have to put my name in, so I mashed a bunch of buttons and yaazz was created.
Yaazz is a good thing. Without it everyone would still be in families of 12 churning butter and combing amish beards.
-
I don't remember any of that probably because I've only been browsing since 2004 but just joined a couple months ago.
-
I lurked the crap out of this place... that's right. i'm allllways watching...

i remember when this site was only good for finding old enigmah modchips that could be shipped to the U.S. and no one here would talk about even making a backup for the original xbox.... good days!

Been a while for me as well. Nice to see some familiar personalities still here. Yes, I do remember that whole thing, multiple personalities and all.

Just got the random inclination to see how the site was doing, and saw this thread. I still remember some of you in this thread. Nice to check back in, haven't done any modding to my 360 though.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see that comment from someone who joined in '06, then again '06 was 5 years ago. Time sure passes.

Do you guys remember when the BST wasn't limited to Xbox related stuff? Those were some good times.

Some of my highlights over the years at XS:
0. June 30, 2002 - I joined to win X-S second contest - 5 XIOS modchips (Xtender 1.1 clones)
1. X-S trading/signature cards.
2. Team Xecuter give away/picture contest. I believe it was something to do with take a picture of yourself with their logo/XS logo near a M$ building/sign.
3. Easybuy2000 - I still never got my refund for my defective matrix w/ pogo pins.
4. Breaking the 137gig limit.
5. X-S t-shirt. I still have mine (1st gen) and wear it proudly!
6. Lik-sang getting shut down.
7. All the rumors about xbox360
8. Xbox360 MT DEW Winners thread (I still hate you guys)
9. EvolutionX - editing that ini
10. XBMC - best media player ever!
11. the usual places - trying to tell newbies about that special place.

I've had a lot of good times on this forum - and really, xbox modding was one of the main reasons I ended up getting into electrical engineering (2nd year now, wooo!), because I enjoyed working with electronics so much. I enjoy modding just as much as I did 6 years ago (though I didnt have an account on these forums back then, I only ever read the main X-s page).
And the place I bought an 80gb drive for my old xbox back in 2004 I got a job at (I asked if there any jobs available while I was buying the drive) and ended up working there for 5 years before going off to uni. Consequently after buying that drive, I learnt all about formatting via FTP via the tutorials on here.
The xbox and these forums, as well as the info the people of X-S have provided over the years will always remembered fondly. Good times (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

oh geez... the memories working on my xbox.
it was v1.0 with a shithompson in it. i got it when i broke my collarbone, had it for a bit, then the hdd dried. gotit fixed at a shop..ended up dying again. got a replacement (v1.6b Halo LE)
sooo modded the old one to put in a new hdd, got a x2.0 lite+, spent forever trying to get that to work.. then i remember the night i was messing, turned it on and saw the cromwell bios, about shit my pants ha. got it reflashed, used slayers to set it up, many times were spent running that and playing nes games. my first thing i ever painted, first thing i put leds in.. learned alot from it. now i can solder good, wiring leds doesnt scare me, i can do good paint jobs with rattle cans...

I use it for XMBC, it's the only thing that don't crash on me lol, PS3 crashes all the time, and I don't care for streaming with the 360.

Yeah I still have my v1.1 going because it's the only thing I can play NHL Hitz on lol.
So who remembers the fun time we had when a forum member (Bubba I think?) stumbled on a stash of big screen TVs for a killer price? I remember getting ready with a few thousand dollars ready to by them up.

Something's not right. People have asked a couple of times, but the topics get closed with no straight answer (usually with a link to another topic and there's no straight answer there either).

Been around a while, sad to see the front page not working as it used to......

I remember the old days, in fact I recognize a lot of these people as people I bought and sold from. I remember buying complete Xboxes at the pawn shop and parting them out and trading for all kinds of weird things. I remember some guy selling straight razors and having a good business go of it. I also recall when AppleGuru got raided and the fallout he took from that. There was someone else too who had made a water-cooled X360, I think he may have even been a mod, but he was selling backups and got pinched.
I also remember a lot of the old mods and how cool they were on one hand, but incredibly strict on the other. You played by the rules and you were good, you didn't and they let you know. Braham2 used to be my personal favorite, Shanafan was awful cocky, but he got the job done.
I have always wondered why after all this time X-S doesn't purge all the banned accounts or unban them like was done at some other sites after a period of time.
I'll take my chances saying this but I incurred the wrath of HSD, we had gone back and forth about a few things and I made a couple open comments about my disappointment with the direction the site was taking, especially at the first advances in X360 modding. I stand by my feelings then and I still stand by them now. We went from a site that was 100% don't discuss piracy, etc to new developments about how people could play their copied games and discussions about where to get games to copy. etc. I said I wasn't impressed with C4E's work because it hadn't gotten to the root of what I felt X-S really wanted, which was an open system ala the original Xbox. (We finally have that now which is why I'm back, I'm curious if it's time to hang up my original Xbox and move forward). 100% confident I was banned for this. Considering this took place probably 4 or 5 years ago I like to think I'm okay to share this. If I wake up banned again, I guess I know why.
It's sad to see the news page updated so infrequently now, heck, the forum still doesn't allow searching. If I was new looking for something, I'd skip this site entirely just for the lack of knowing what useful information is out there and new information isn't updated.
Closing thoughts here, I don't believe X-S is any sort of moneymaker, it's big, time consuming, and falling behind. I would really like for it to be passed onto people with the time and effort to maintain and bring the site back up to its old glory. I feel like if that doesn't happen in another few years there won't be an X-S.

Yep, slowly -- plans are in motion. - Old timers unite to bring XS back to its glory!
-
I have been in discussion with Xantium tonight, and we have a plan that we will roll out shortly. We intend to keep XS running independently.
As you might have noticed, I have resumed my spot as admin. I'm looking for volunteers and suggestions for people who can post XS news to the main page. The pay is lousy, probably nothing at first.
Other than that, the king is back and I'll be looking around the forums more over the next few days. Please be patient with me as I reacquaint myself with XS. I have been gone a long time.
The blue bastard admin of Xbox scene has returned..
