Finally i have updated the skin to 1.3 compatibility,and improved the graphic.

Sounds great. I am installing either today or yesterday's xbmc so I can use the skin. Its done, time to play now. So there are supposed to be sounds? I guess I need to turn the speakers on then.

I hope the huge other thread can be retired and just use this one now.

edit: OK. I know it is the skin from the link. xbmc says it is not 1.3 compatable though and won't switch.

Next edit: OK its fine now. Maybe it happened because this time I tried to not copy over the PAL or 16x9 folders. The skin looks great.

I like how when you press the right thumbstick that the interface guide pops up too. The problem for me at least is that the text is a little blurry. maybe a different font or the size increased a little would help. I am using the standard NTSC version.

Are there any other sounds built in besides the opening and the click for each selection?

The new "key mapping help" screens look nice. Is there supposed to be text at the bottom? I don't have any, but there was in an earlier version. I just have arrows.

The screen help (both right thumbstick instant display and actual menu help) are trials for right now, need input form you guys as to which approach to take in the design. Also same goes for the sounds, any suggestions and or comments. Those are just to show that sounds are available.

Hmmmm....

I'm pretty new at this.....

But when I put this over my existing Orbs skin, I get no animations, and there's nothing in the weather orb.

I don't even get cover art in the orb, or a scrolling marquee of what I'm listening to.

ALways delete the old Orbs skin before using a new one. Overwriting the files does not seem to work well.

I prefer the sounds you used in this version to the new PMIII(green button). They're a little harsh. Subtle is the way to go IMO. In fact Im thinking about copying yours over but Im afraid my xbox will say, "I cant allow you to do that Dave".
One thing (maybe you dont want to hear/read it) would be nice if the rss feed streched accross further for those of use that read pho-e-ne-ti-cal-ly. Maybe along the bottom or top? Just a thought.

OOg: yes dont overwrite previous skins, the best way to update is to actually change skins in XBMC before you actually delete the skin folder you are updating (because XBMC still needs access to the media files, and some wont get deleted).

-Also please remeber, that when Kotix releases a new version of his skin, that he uses the most recent build of XBMC to design around (meaning the same day of his release). So if there are any problems, first try updating to that day's release, and if the problem persists, then report it as a bug.

Splinter: there are two Keymap help screens 1) the first showing up when you press the thumbstick 2) the other acessed by navigating to the question mark after pressing the thumbstick. They both basically say the same thing, just a different way of showing it. Need feedback from everyone as to which one they like most (or variation of).

Xr8d: rss feed is simple to change yourself. Because of other resolutions such as NTSC 4:3 the screen gets cut off right at the top and bottom of the orbs, so placement of the RSS there would not work for all resolutions. BUt if you go into home.xml and search until you find something about rss, then you can easily change the size, and position as well as the feed itself.

Kotix, the missing pixels george michael cover issue seems to be completely fixed now, no problem in any screen. I did witness a strange bug I haven't seen before though, I switched back to homescreen and everything was flickering like crazy. I went into my music then back again and all was normal. I've only seen this happen once but I've only had my xbox on for 5 minutes to try the new skin when I got home this morning so not sure if it will happen again.

Once again, amazing work Kotix ( and support crew! ). No-one could possibly argue that this isn't the best skin by a mile!

Cool! I'm happy to hear that we got this one fixed too.
The flickering you have seen is due to the visualization in the home screen, PM3 had that problem too and i don't know if Chokeman got it fixed already, I'll ask him this night after work.

Ok Just d/led it and I have few problems with the skin. First of all, im using ntsc and the right orb is being cut off now and the top of the left orb too, never had that prob before. Im not feeling the positioning of the osd, its blocking left orb (that sux). How about the bottom center instead or if you insist on keeping it in the left orb atleast let it cover the whole orb. The sounds don't seem all that diff from the project mayhem skin (which are annoying by the way). Oh is there a way to get rid of that 'compact disc' thing that comes up when playing a song that has no cover art? I mean i want it to show cover art when necessary but the cd thing gots ta go! :) I luv this skin. I prefer the keymap screen other than the right stick thing by the way.

Nope. I got april 17 version. And this is this definitely the skin cause this is something i kinda noticed before but never really payed attention to it. For example in ALL versions of the orb skin when you go into system info the "Mplayer dev........." line goes off the screen. its a small little thing so i never really cared before, until this version it seems even worse where its affecting the home screen now. I tried center user interface but this is obviously a skin issue since PMIII (or any other skin I have for that matter) doesn't have this problem.

incognegro: The NTSC size thing (border right at the top and bottom of each orb) was apparent in the previous skins. It is more noticable now since the addition of the new "orbs." I dont know much about sizing the skin for the different resolutions, but will ask Kotix the process and try to come up with a fix soon. As for the blank cd, you can get rid of it by changing the image in the media folder.

I know I can change it but i dont want to change it. I want to get rid of it entirely so the gif's show when playing music. At the same i want it to still show the album art 'if necessary'. So;

No album art = Gif's
If there is album art = show album art in orb

get what i mean?

I just got an idea for the skin, what if that ugly compact disc was replaced with an appropriate gif like a cd player moving or something. kotix what you think? oh, kotix im guessing that orb in keymap help screen thing is not gonna happen huh? Thanx for the quick reply j_guzzler :beer:

There is noway that i can control when cover is present or not, so forget it for now.

The ugly cd image can be replaced but not with a gif because it is used in all the music screens as default thumb when cover is missing, sorry about this one too.

Regardind NTSC issue I'll see what i can do, as I have a PAL tv and i cannot reproduce it properly.

It could be a bug in the skin, i've discovered some small ones already, btw the right procedure to update the skin is:

-switch to another skin first
-delete old skin folder
-transfer new one

Avalaunch gives me the option to upgrade to 4-4-2005 XBMC, but I have no idea how to do it.

I think I found a glitch... While playing a video, I go back to the files list and press the file info button. The info comes up but it's transparent, so kinda unreadable. Can everyone confirm this?

I noticed an error in the sounds.xml file, after noticing when taking a picture, it was playing the wrong file, so looked at the .xml to verify things.

There's 2 traces on Previous Menu, the highlighted one above should be removed, as it messes with the proper file playing. Instead with that in, it plays the shutter.wav file instead of screenshot.wav file since it's lookinng only at the 1st one, which is the shutter.wav label.

Tnx djdafreund, I was so tired when i did that part....I'll correct it when i get home.

The first time I just uploaded the wrong file (please forgive me) so there isn't really a changelog, changes from the older version are so many that i cannot remember them all:

- i made all the changes to make it 1.3 compatible
- the black blob due to hardware overlay in video preview is not a problem anymore because has been fixed by JMarshall a few weeks ago
- memory usage in the home page is not a problem anymore either as the gif images are turned off when player is playing, this mean you can leave the default cache and i can use bigger and better quality animations

Does this mean you are working on even better animations?

I like the rotating shutter on the lower orb, how about adding something similiar to the upper orb ( camera apperture type shutter? )which only runs when first started, like the new start up sound.?

This skin just gets better and better.

I can't do that because the shutter will open all the times you go back to the home screen, can't do it only one time.
I can do it only when something play, video or music or both.

How difficult would it be to edit this so that the orbs would be in different areas ?

I like this skin the best but Id like to make the orbs be in the center most portion.
Or at least be able to shift the buttons around.

Just wondering how difficult it would be. Is it anythign more significant then changing alignment values ?

Is not very difficult but will take you alot of time, you'll need to modify the background to cut the holes in the new orbs position, and reposition al the labels and images.

Hi.
I am usingthe XBMC 2005-04-22 release.
My XBOX is using NTSC 4:3 resolution
I tried use the New Orbs skins , but the MY VIDEOS screen don't list the Objects (like SMB share... XMS share ... etc...)]
the object counter (in the bottom of screen) counts the objects... but they are not showed.
In the other screens (my music, my files etc... all works fine)

PS.: in the "old" orbs skin, all works very well

Me too "I think" because I thought it was my xml edit...At the same time I started to use the latest releases of orbs and xbmc I had edited my pictures,music and video defaults to

dont know if this is relevant to this, but for naming the defaults, you no longer use

<default>f:\games</default>

instead you just place the name of the bookmark

<default>My Games</default>

Not sure if thats why you arent seeing the shares....I am using the same build/orbs you are and It all works fine for me.....

It also work good here and for ntsc and pal the skin use exactly the same xml file, so I think the problem should be or in your xboxmediacenter.xml or you have bad updated xbmc.
In the 1.3 skin version change the "id" of the thumb and list panels in video sections are changed from 10-11 to 50-51 and this is the only skin change.
The very often mistake updating xbmc, if you are using it as a dash, is that people normally overwrite only the default.xbe forgetting to overwrite the evoxdash.xbe too, so be sure to do everything correctly.
BTW if you have this problem only with my skin and not with PM3, then I'm wrong and I'll recheck everything.

Well... in the PM3 all works (I dont now how)
But you was right... I was using de xbmc as dashboard and not update the right xbe.
Now everything works fine.

I found out that the problem is with XBMC...It only supports multiple bookmarks in the My Programs menu and not in the othersI bet it has something to do with movies vids and pics not having .xbe files

Ok I need a favor since everyone is bored...Can someone send me the splash.png that was with some older XBMC builds...Its the sweet oval shapped black one and it would be in the media folder of XBMC...I updated to the newest 05/02 version and it wasnt there...I didnt back it up..Flippin IDIOT :jester:

I Finally got the updated XBMC....I love the skin, however I have one problem that I haven't seen addressed yet.

I have the cover art on the main screen, but not when in a visualization.

If you want to use the images, you can do either of the following. You can either put the images back into an image file, or you can just dump the images into the directory and delete the image pack file already in there, then reboot, and you'll be using your newly updated images.

Thanx for the help...I still cant get the green to go away...I open it with Ulead Gif Animator and the I edit it with PhotoShop...All I am doing is dropping the Hue to -180 and the saturation back to -35...I select only the rectangle part of the frame and not the blue orb or the green bars...I do that for all 12 frames and still the green animation stuff...I also cant seem to change the blue bar in the submenu which fades from light to dark and I dont think its a gif

Yeah, now your seeing the fun it takes to make/change a skin. I only did the 16x9 portion of it, and spent a bit of time into it perfecting things, that's just the way i am. That really makes you have a much higher amount of respect for Kotix considering he did everything.
I think all the winers out there ('When's the next version coming out?' 'Such and such is all messed up!' 'Can't you update it more often?') should have a crack at playing around with one or designing one from scratch, so they can appreciate the hard work someone really does put into making a skin.

I love the Orb skin very much, and keep it mostly as my default because it's simply beautiful. Thanx again Kotix for your time and great work on a nice piece of work you give us, and just know most all of us really do appreciate it as well.. Thanx buddy!!!

CZECH, i beleive you are using a bad build of the skin because the top left orb of the screenshot you showed me is not well centered and i already fixed that.
Btw, regarding font color, if you don't find something in the xml file your are looking in is because it's probably predefined in the reference.xml.
Reference.xml contain all the controls used in the skin and it is used as base for all the screens, so if you don't see the <textcolor> tag in a button is because it's predefined in the reference and you can simply add that tag to that button.

Regarding the gif images, be sure when edit them in imageready to set the frame deleting method to "restore to background" or it will messup the background.

One small suggestion, as you are making the skin black you should probably
be more comfortable using some of the PM3 skin textures as they already match your color scheme.

- added seekbar
- more default controls on thumbs/list panel
- fixed 16/9 visualization
- decreased background size in sections screens to reduce mem usage

I just updated to the new one you just posted.

And when I'm in "My Programs" I have no green cursor.

EDIT: I can hear the click everytime I attempt to move the cursor, but there is no cursor. It's not invisible, meaning I can't scroll down or anything. There's just no cursor.

As from default skin (PM3) changelog:
2005-05-10 changed: Default control in scripts + programs is now the list/thumb view.

You need at least xbmc build of 05/10/2005 to run the new version of the skin properly.
If you don't have a so recent version of xbmc you have to use the old version of the skin that is still available on www.allxboxskins.com

I upgraded my XBMC yesterday......to be honest with you I don't know what version it is, but it came with the Milkdrop plug-in, and it had The Orbs already included, it has an XBMC splash screen at startup, and it also plays some sound at startup.

So far this has happened to me twice.

I don't remember the details of the first time, but this time, I had added my MP3's to the playlist, then started milkdrop, then got out of milkdrop, and hit the back button to get back to the main page.

The new version seems to be working just fine for me. I didn't have the sound turned on though. What and where is the "seek bar" you added?

On a side note, the milkdrop is crazy. It had like 5000 files alone and took sooo long to transfer. For now on I am just going to skip it or copy it from the old xbmc folder to the newer one when the time comes. I don't undersatnd people being excited about the thing either. Visualizations never meant a thing to me.

The seek bar work trought the right thumbstick: play a song or a video and move right/left the right thumbstick (the same you use for volume up/down)

It is just your xbmc that is not older then 10 may 2005 , check the changelog of your xbmc and look at the newest change date, that is your xbmc build.

That looks awesome kotix, nice work.

About the milkdrop files/presets, there is now no need to extract the zip, milkdrop/xbmc now works with the files left as a zip, at least the version I just downloaded does ( from the usuall place ), and it works flawlessly with no lag.

Ya I tried this about a year ago. It evolved quite nicely!!! Im loving all of these "Pro" skins.

I never thought I'd replace PM3 but its definately getting steep competition.

Wow! I'm so unbelievably torn. It's like being a kid in a candy store. The quality between PM3, The Orbs, and MC360 are phenomenal. I don't think there's any app marketed that offers such stunning artistic flavors as XBMC within their GUI.
