the 0800 dumping is a feature of iXtreme 1.6 so you may want to jump to that thread and read up.  They said when it's connected to your pc with the tray half-open it will turn on that mode for backing up discs.

it "automatically" flashes your drive to make everything easier for noobs. I would just stick with JungleFlasher, its very easy to use.

Tried this disc at this version wont boot, " missing operation system "

But hes 1.51 version worked flawless.

maybe a stupid question, but is it still necessary to open my xbox 360 console to use this cd or is it the same as the original xbox to just put the cd in the tray and my xbox will be modded automaticly.
kind regards

You will still need to open your system and connect your drive to your PC with a compatible SATA controller.  Unlike the original Xbox, you are modifying the firmware of the DVD drive itself rather than system software, so it will always be necessary to open the system to modify the drive.

How exactly does this software work anyways?  Is it a bootable Linux distro/DOS or a compilation of tools and scripts?  IS it really any easier than the already simple JungleFlasher process?

Maybe somebody knows is it using 'repacked' version of firmware for liteon or that first version with problems ??

Anyone ever had an asucsess with these?
Frosty is awesome and has allways contributed so Im not downing him...
Ive tried 1.5, 1.51 and now this one.

It will never recognize the sata port I have the drive installed to but it says that it does.

It says that it is copying OFW but it just makes an empty folder, then it says its erasing but if it cant find the drive how its it erasing?
Then it says flashing but flashing what?

THIS IS NOT NOOB FRIENDLY.  Its automated fully. Which means you may think you have your keys and OFW, then boot into windows after erasing your drive and have an empty Liteon folder.

BEcareful

for me what makes this disk great, is the hability to just take my via card and frosty's cd to my friends home and mod the system there without having to worry about OS/drivers on the computer... i've used frosty's disk and my vt6421a card on several computers, and had 100% success so far. files write correctly to hdd, and drive flashed without any kind of errors. i've only flashed benq and samsung drives so far, and i can't complain about anything. tkx frosty

It's a DOS-based bootable CD that contains scripts that automatically flash Samsung/BenQ/Lite-On drives with DOSFLASH and FIRMTOOL being used as the main applications for the flashing process.

hello frosty,

by the way, do you plan to make it working for usb key anytime soon ?
for instance, the disk doesn't boot for me, when it boots from my brother's pc... (I'm using k8n diamond xp, he's on asus p5b vista and the same drive...) I'm sure it would boot if it was on a usb key.

just asking, since I won't be able to use it for my 360 anyway, but you know what I'm speaking of...  tongue.gif

FrostyTheSnowman,

Is 1.51->1.6 supported for liteon without re-using the probe?. I see it says previously modded drives ARE supported but the lite-on is a little different to the others (requiring the us of the spear). Its for ALL drives right?

no you have to use all the tools, sadly... check the other thread about 1.53.

Yes, I do. happy.gif

I can't guarantee when the 'USB' version will be ready, I need to do some more research into the boot-process of USB drives and FreeDOS support, but yes, a 'USB' version is planned for release within the next few months. (maybe sooner)

I'm sure that '360 Modification Disc v1.61' will have both a CD and USB option. smile.gif

So i've already got a beta available of a USB-bootable version of my disc available, if anyone would like to beta-test it for me, please feel free to PM me.

NOTE: The USB-bootable version of my disc is already a lot more stable then the CD version when it comes to backing up your firmware. Instead of saving the firmware on to an NTFS/FAT/FAT32 HDD in your PC it saves the backup firmware files on to the USB drive instead. This means no more NTFS compatibility problems, no issues with un-detectable SATA HDDs, etc.

The only problem is the probe I don't have, otherwise I would have tested it right away  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Thanks a lot for the Modifikation Disc. It's great.

I've used the previous version to flash my benq drive to 1.51.
Now i'd like to use it for the 1.6 flash, but is it possible to replace the 12x firmware with a 8x firmware?

Will this disc put a sammy into 0800 mode for flashing? Or will I still need the activate.iso to use this? I'm still running Xtreme 5.1 (not ixtreme 1.51).

Unfortunately no, C4E (one of the authors) has chosen to 'lock-out' the ability to change the read speed on the iXtreme v1.6 firmware. Even if you force your firmware to go to 8x (by hex editting) the firmware will reject the backup disc. sad.gif

Yes, my disc will put your Samsung drive into 0800 mode for flashing the firmware without needing the activate.iso disc. Just make sure you are using a VT6421 or NForce3/4 chipset for flashing.

What i am doing wrong ??

I have connected the xbox360 with a via pci sata card to my computer.

I burned the 1.6 disc on a dvd.

I reboot and i get the screens to input port number and the screen of com (i've a benq so i didn't put anything in)

I have to put Yes on a screen to accept that am using it for myself and then i get : <A:\>

In the previous screen stood when i was there i just have to put Benq in it and then enter. When i do that the command say : Bad Command or Filename..

So whats going wrong ?

Edit: I have a xbox360 with a benq drive and FW 1.5 on it

The version of my disc you are using is not v1.6, you are using an old version. the A:\ prompt has been removed since v1.52, make sure you are using 360 Modification Disc v1.6 and not an older version...

Make sure you are using the correct version from XBINS, which should be 360 Modification Disc v1.6...

Both of the above issues are due to known issues with the disc-based version of 360 Modification Disc v1.6...

I am planning to discontinue 360 Modification Disc v1.6 in favor of a new project - 360 Modification Drive v1.6 (USB-based).

Meaning, my next release will be entirely USB thumb drive based, and will be much easier to use and MUCH more compatible/reliable with many new computers.

This release should be out within the week, and it will fix the following issues (thanks to the USB design):

 - No more freezing issues!
 - Much higher compatibility with many new PCs!
 - All backup files will be saved on to the USB thumb drive instead of an HDD! (no more backup file issues with HDDs)

Hey guys.  I have two copys of v1.6. and when i look inside the iso with isobuster one version has the firmware in folders and  .bat files and what not.  And the other version has Firmware folder with no contents visible. Now the version that has visible firmware in folders was not downloaded from xbins. But the other with visible firmware and .bat stuff was downloaded for a torrent site.

What should i be looking for inside the ISO.

Thanks..  I can post pics if you are interested smile.gif

I for one would be very willing to switch from dosflash to this for a usb based solution.
On disc I have no idea where my files are going.. USB it will all be in one safe place.

lol,
Whats funny is you can tell frosty wasnt thinking to deeply into the USB aspect... then when he tried he realized how much more responsive and easier it is to use.

Plus the fact that most PCs iwthin the past 5 years that have SATA ports will boot from "other" or usb.

You are correct. DOS based tools do not have the resident drivers available to support USB-based serial cables. Unfortunately this will probably always be this way...

LOL, yes you are right for the most part, I hadn't delved too deeply into USB bootable options, for a few reasons:

1. Most new modders don't understand how to create a bootable USB drive (although I will be including a really easy tutorial for doing it)

2. Not all PCs support booting from a USB drive

3. A disc just seemed so much more simple...

However, all things considered, the USB version will be the better version to use all around. happy.gif

NOTE: I am planning to release the USB version, called '360 Modification USB Drive v1.6' on Friday this week. (just waiting on a few more beta tester's results)

Yes it does actually! That's pretty cool that DOS is still being developed for driver-wise... but it looks like the driver only supports Prolific-based usb-to-serial chips though, and I am not sure what comes in the CK3 Pro or the new all-in-one probe made by Maximus... (the name skips my mind at the moment...)

I would need either a CK3 Pro or Maximus' new all-in-one extractor/spear to test...

Does anyone know what chip is used by the CK3 or Maximus USB solutions?

It is a compatibility issue with your PC's BIOS.

Update on 360 Modification USB Drive v1.6:

Testing on all three drives is looking good!

Many of my beta testers have confirmed that the drive backup files are being saved to the USB drive correctly, and the speed/performance of the drive modification process is much better than the disc-based versions! Overall this release will be MUCH better than all previous disc-based versions!

Release is slated for noon tomorrow. (Mountain Standard Time - MST)

I'm just trying the 1.6 disc for the first time. My system has 1 SATA hard drive. When I boot to the CD, the CD mounts as C: and my hard drive mounts as E: and F:(backup partition).  The prompt says that files will be backed up to C:. This is the CD drive, so I'm not sure what happens if I continue. Is there a way to change where the files are backed up to?

I couldn't find anything in the BIOS that would let me change drive letter assignments.

The main XBINS site is only for 'record keeping' and readme files, you need to go to the XBINS FTP site to get the actual software. happy.gif

This link should help: http://www.x-scene.c...icles/xbins.php

Hmm, XBINS might still be on invite-only...

Which means that it is difficult to get access at the moment. sad.gif

I have a 'permanent' developer login for XBINS, so i'm not sure how the end-user side of XBINS is working these days...

You might have to wait until my release becomes available elsewhere...

Hello again.  Finally managed to get the files and format USB and start flashing.  Same thing happens to me as when I used the disc...after I disconnect/reconnect the power and it starts dumping it asks if the firmware was dumped successfully and then hangs, doesn't accept any input....any ideas?

I'm using an ASUS P5N-E SLI mobo, the drive is connected to a Serial ATA PCI Adapter (VIA 6421 Chipset Solution).  I am running a dual-boot system (XP Pro 64bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit), could this be having an affect?

Thanks for any replies.

Ah, yes, I forgot about that small bug... it rarely happens, I think it is related to the 'CHOICE' support application the disc uses for ERRORLEVEL scripting...

Are you using a USB keyboard? Have you tried using a PS/2 keyboard?

I think that the 'CHOICE' application is simply waiting for input from a legacy keyboard and some USB keyboards/BIOSes don't properly support legacy mode for USB keyboards... which is why PS/2 keyboards work better in DOS.

Send me a PM, I would like to have you BETA test for me on this issue. (if you are interested)

NOTE: The above issue RARELY happens, and is not a dangerous bug, just annoying. If anyone else is unable to proceed past the firmware dump checkpoint, try using a PS/2 keyboard.

Yeah, i've been told that the USB Format Tool doesn't support FAT32 with DOS, so FAT32 formatting won't work with my software. But as long as you choose FAT you are set. smile.gif

Hi everyone.

I'm new to the modding scene and saw this disc up on newsgroups so grabbed and it read up about it and felt like I was ready to go.

I've undone my 360 and I've got a phillips/lite on DG - 16D2S drive.

Now i've read comflicting things when I get to this point.

Do i just connect the drive (leave it in the x box or remove it altogether) to my sata card and run the disc on my pc?

Or does this type of drive require soldering and so on like i've read in some places.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

The Lite-On drive requires a special serial cable to be modded, either the CK3 Pro, the Maximus Xtractor, or make your own cable (homemade).

Do not attempt to modify your Lite-On drive without this cable, or you might brick your drive... sad.gif

Cheap to buy, no. The cable is roughly $50 for a CK3 Pro...

However, they are very cheap to make. smile.gif ($5 in parts)

Check out the 'Lite-On-RS232-TTL.jpg' image file included in the 360 Modification Disc v1.6 package for the diagram.

NOTE: Even with this cable you still need to use your 360 to power the drive, the serial cable in the diagram does not provide power to the drive.

I always get MTK vendor intro failed on port 0x8000 and I tried each one and the result is the same.

2.Please enter the com port for use with your serial cable(Lite-On drives only)
Do I press enter and skip it?

3.I finished every step and this is what I got

Rading Bank 0,1,2,3 Then Reading finished! Datasum:158 F

Finally how do I know when I am finish. because I tried my xbox360 and my back ups wave 3 don't start. Another thing do i need to power on my 360 when it prompts me to hit y and wait for dos to find the drive?
Thanks for everything.

Sorry Dark-Knight but i thought my answer was helpful, at least you ruled out the usb/ps2 problem.
You might want to try and press the buttons it tells you to on screen instead of "I try everything, pressing every key on my keyboard" and as  for me being stupid well my xbox's working the way i want and your isn't tongue.gif

@ darkcrudus

I had the same problem as you, I even tried PS/2 adaptor and then bought a PS/2 keyboard, it still didn't work.  I ended up using Jungle Flasher 1.6 to do my Benq drives and it worked perfectly, you just need to make sure you install portIO32 first and make sure you're running it form a 32bit operating system.  Hope this helps.

Don't demand things on a site where you get software for free. It's bad karma...

It's not a keyboard problem (as I originally thought) it is a bug in Microsoft's CHOICE.COM application.

This will be fixed in the 'bugfix' version of '360 Modification USB Drive v1.6' which will be released on Monday, June 1st.

Ok, just to confirm to the modding community, I am going to continue development with both 360 Modification Disc and 360 Modification USB Drive as joint-releases in the future.

In fact, a 'bugfix' version of both will be released on June 1st with the following fixes for both:

- Replacing FreeDOS with MS-DOS due to booting issues on some PCs
- Adding 'validation scripting' to confirm that the firmware backup is correct instead of using the [Y/N] confirmation prompt that is causing keyboard lockups on some PCs
- Cleaning up and revising the instructions/steps for the modding process on each drive to make each step as clear and easy as possible to follow
- An 'official' tutorial will be included that will outline each possible step in the modding process in great detail

So in response to those concerned about the future of the 360 Modification Disc, don't worry, I will continue to update and joint-release both the 360 Modification Disc and 360 Modification USB Drive in the future.

Release of the revised 'bugfix' versions of both is slated for June 1st.

I already got to the step of flashing but it froze on me.
If i try to use the disc it asks me to dump firmware from drive and the drive has already been erased and you cannot tell the disc what dir the ixtreme firmware is in.

If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.

Posted problems here ->

Basically I erased bank0 of my dvd's firmware before it froze up on me and now its all screwy. I've got the original firmware and a spoofed copy ready to go, and really this usb utility is the only thing that I can get to recognize the drive properly. Unfortunately, it tries to read it before hand and then it uses the wrong firmware. I want to use a custom firmware and jump right on to the write step. Hope theres a way?

I'm really glad you've decided to continue releasing future versions of the mod disc. I prefer using older PCs to upgrade my 360. I don't feel comfortable using my newer PC to upgrade out of fear that I might damage it. Unfortunately the older PCs can't boot from the usb drive; that's why I need to use the disc version.

The only problem is the previous versions of the 360 mod disc don't seem to boot on my older pc.  I've been pulling my hair out all day waiting for the bugfix versions of 360 Modification Disc. Is the latest bugfix version of the 360 mod disc gonna come out on time (i.e. 6/6/2009) and if not how much longer till it's released?

By the way, really great work Frosty!

You can't extract the disc version to create a USB version without extensive revisions to the scripting.

However, there is already a USB version available called '360 Modification USB Drive v1.6' which you can find on XBINS, and it has everything you need for a USB bootable version of my disc. smile.gif

It seems to be the newest version of the mod disc; v1.6.

I have two older model PCs. One was a Compaq Pentium 3 and the other was a Dell Pentium 4. I used to use the Compaq PC to mod disc drives, but the Compaq no longer works for some reason. But I have modded 360's in the past. I just never did it with the Dell pc.

I got the disc to boot in my Dell PC. It seems I made the mistake of burning the 360 mod disc v1.6 ISO onto a DVD. I burnt the disc a second time onto a CD and now it works; kinda. It boots, but only intermittently. I usually have to try several times to get it to work.

Sorry to triple post.

The flashing process didn't go smoothly for me though. The disc would get stuck in the beginning. I'd see the intro to Freedos.  If i don't press anything it'd just stall. I'd see a brief line of instruction that would flash on the screen and then disappear. I'd say to press f5 to skip and f8 to go to options so I pressed f5, I'd type 'dir', and entered the commands manually. (this is off the top of my head so It's possible I switched the commands)

I think I successfully flashed the drive. I mean that's what the app said, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm a little skeptical because of the way I went through the process. I actually tried to flash the drive twice. The second time I don't even think the 360 was on when it said it flashed successfully.

Frosty, it'd be great if you could add a way to verify what firmware is on the 360's drive. It'd certainly give me peace of mind. Just a suggestion I thought I'd throw out there. Still think this is a really great app though. Keep it frosty, Frosty.

What do you mean? You would like to know what firmware is on the drive? It is obviously ix-1.6 if you use '360 modification disc v1.6'

I know what firmware is on the disc. I'm saying I'm want a way to confirm whether or not the firmware actually installed onto the drive. I feel, based on my experience that homebrew apps (is that the right use of the word) in general are a little glitch. My fear is that the firmware didn't actually install onto the drive, despite the confirmation. I had a lot of problems using the app, like I said before.

So, like I said before, I wasn't sure if the DVD firmware was successfully flashed so I made a game backup with 3rd wave and tried it in my 360. I've read that backups with 3rd wave will not be playable if you have firmware v1.4 or less. I've read that instead you'll see a XBox 360 logo. That basically is the gist of what happened to me. The disc didn't boot into the game and I saw the 360 logo instead. To make sure I didn't accidentally damage my 360 I put in an older backup without 3rd wave and it was able to work flawlessly.

So far I'm able to boot with the CD version of 360 Mod disc v1.6. I'm able to select the location of the via controller. I don't select a port because I'm trying to flash a Samsung M25. I type in the command 'samsung'. I make a folder for the firmware backup. I usually get stuck at the actual flashing. Basically I get a set of instructions telling you to press enter, to type 'yes', and to hit the enter key again, and then to powercycle your 360 (unplug the M25 and plug it back in after 5 sec). I keep getting error messages. Either the disc freezes  at a line of code or it does not flash successfully and it tells me the flash failed. I'm not sure how to time the powercycle of the xbox 360 will flash the drive. I tried waiting 5 sec after I press yes and enter. I tried starting the powercycle before I hit yes then enter and then starting the powercycle, nothing.

I also tried to use Jungleflasher and I seem to have the exact same powercylce problem. In the samsung section, the program recognizes my 360. I hit device ID, and i then try to powercycle, but i can't get the program to get into vendor mode.

Can anyone give me any advice? Also, when you enter the command yes, are you just supposed to type the letter 'Y' and then hit enter or are you supposed to type out the actual word 'YES' and then hit enter?

I'm starting to feel like I'm having a conversation with myself.

Can I use 360 Modification USB v1.6 on a Xbox360 console that has not been modified in anyway? Or do I need to first flash my drive firmware with 1.5 then use the 360 Modification USB v1.6 ?

Frosty do you think I should wait for your newest release? Thanks

for me what makes this disk great, is the hability to just take my via card and frosty's cd to my friends home and mod the system there without having to worry about OS/drivers on the computer... i've used frosty's disk and my vt6421a card on several computers, and had 100% success so far. files write correctly to hdd, and drive flashed without any kind of errors. i've only flashed benq and samsung drives so far, and i can't complain about anything. tkx frosty

You don't need other tools like special cables?

I was wondering if intel chipsets built in sata slots can be used....

Frosty, is the updated 1.6 disc out yet as my compaq machine just displays 3 dots and hangs with the current v1.6???

It will be out tomorrow for sure, many small bugs related to boot drive letters and DOS compatibilty have been brought to my attention recently, so I needed to correct those before release.

Also, the USB drive version has been taking a lot of my time too... smile.gif

But the official release time will be tomorrow, before midnight. Sorry about the delay...

I think this is what you looking for. It's a list of other chipsets that worked for flashing 360 dvd drives. It's a Compatible motherboard/PCIcard thread

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=593698

I was able to use my motherboards  NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI chipset to flash my x360's MS25 dvd drive.

I was having the exact same problem with my Compaq Pentium 4 system. In the end I was forced to use my newer PC, which i didn't want to do, but in the end it was worth it.

In the end I actually flash my 360 with Jungleflasher. I tried to do it with the 360 modification disc 1.6, but it almost bricked my 360.

I was able to get the 360 mod disc to easily boot and detect my X360 easily. I successfully got it to read my x360 and to 'spoof' (I think that's the right word) the drive key. But after the disc successfully erased my drive the disc froze. While I had a copy of the original firmware and the modded firmware made by the 360 mod disc app on my hard drive, I couldn't find a way to get the program to navigate to the folder which contained the OFW and the FW with the drive key on it. If it did i could have probably unbricked my 360 DVD drive easily.

After a day or two of troubleshooting I defaulted to using Jungleflasher which gives you the ability to select the original firmware and the hacked firmware you are going to use. It was alot easier to use in the end. In addition to being able to navigate to the source firmware and modded firmware you want to use, in addition you aren't forced to reboot after each retry. The 360 mod disc seems to freeze alot, at least for me. While I'm sure the 360 mod disc is a great program, it just didn't work out for me.

Just a little constructive criticism. The 360 mod disc really would be great if it also had a way to navigate to the source firmware you want to use. By creating a way to tell the program which source firmware you want to use (i.e. reading a copy directly from x360 drive or using a backup copy on your hard drive) people who accidentally brick their system can use backup firmware to potentially fix their system. This is important because in my case I couldn't use the firmware on my 360 because it had been erased. This would potentially make the mod disc a great unbricking tool.

Also it would be great if their was a way to skip the reading stage and to jump directly to the writing stage on the mod disc. If you already have a copy of the OFW and the modded firmware then jumping directly to the write stage would be really convenient.  I know it's alot to ask, but i think constructive critique is the cornerstone of any great enterprise. In the end adding these features might help alot of people who accidentally brick their 360's drives.

I'm in need of some help Frosty  sad.gif . Tonight I attempted to flash my benq drive using you 360 mod disc V1.6 and am having issues post flash. First, I have no backup files. both the iextreme.bin and orig.bin were created but they contain no information, and are 0 bytes each. I then attempted to insert an original (store bought) disc into the xbox and encountered an onscreen message stating, "to play this game, insert it into an xbox360 console". I assure you I don't hold you responsible for anything, nor am I claiming fault with your program (I could surely do no better) but I am stuck here  dry.gif .

time for a more direct question. I have a DVD drive key that the boot disc gave me during it's process b366cee128a3714527ec8a7781daa42f. Is this a valid key? Is it one the boot disc defaulted to after some error? Did I just brick my system?

I realize your time is devoted to the USB version at the moment but I'd appreciate the help  biggrin.gif

Sounds like your NTFS HDD didn't get the files copied on to it correctly, which is not the fault of your HDD, it's a flaw in the NTFS driver on my disc...

Have you tried using the USB version of my disc? It is a lot more reliable. (because it copies the firmware files on to the USB drive instead of your HDD)

Aside from all that though, thank GOD you wrote down that key, otherwise your Lite-On drive would have been bricked.

I will construct a new firmware file for you to flash on to your 360, PM me with your e-mail address so I can send it to you.

Okay, so after MUCH thinking and deliberation I have decided that I will continue to release new versions of the '360 Modification Disc', however, the disc-based version will not have any advanced features in the future. Meaning that the disc-based version will continue to be updated as new firmware versions come out, but the features will remain the same. (the disc-based version will ONLY be able to automatically flash drives, nothing more)

My reasoning for this is that NTFS support in DOS with the disc-based version is not reliable enough to allow NTFS HDDs to be used as a medium for containing files that would be used with the advanced options the disc would have offered. (like the USB version currently offers)

NTFS support under DOS works just fine for backing up files, but I do not trust it beyond that. Therefore, the disc-based version will only offer the option to 'automatically flash' your 360 DVD drive and nothing more in the future. When new iXtreme firmware versions are released, the disc will be updated.

So, just to finalize and clear things up, the USB-based version will always be the 'better' option, and will continue to have features added to it, and will continue to be regularly updated. The disc-based version will also continue to be updated, but only when new iXtreme firmware is released, and will not offer any advanced features beyond automatically flashing drives.

I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Hey, maybe someone here can help. I just flashed a Lite On just fine with this disc. But I cannot get it to work with my BenQ drive. It locks up (underscore keeps blinking) after the key is dumped. Any ideas??

(I tried the USB one but it gives me a write error when it tries to boot even though there is no write protection on my USB drive)

Yep, latest version. I'm really glad you are still making this disc version because I would have had nothing that worked (besides the Windows stuff of course).

Basically the USB version doesn't even get to the point where it asks me what port my SATA card is on. It just gives me some error about not being able to write and if I want to retry, abort, ignore or fail. Again I'm not sure why it says this as it can't be my USB stick (there is no write protection option for it) and none of the files are read-only. Maybe it's trying to write to my hard drive and it can't find that for some reason?

I think my problem is that my computer doesn't recognize my drive. I am using the SATA1 port on my mobo because I do not have the card, is this the issue? Advice appreciated.

Yes, most likely, especially if you are using a Samsung or BenQ drive.

If you purchase a $10 VIA VT6421 card it should fix your problem.

I did mine through motherboard SATA and it flashed (I think a bad flash, I might need to do it again ;(
You have 2 choices either you find the exact port range or switch x360 off then on it may then recognise it.

I flashed a benq drive with your disk and i worked great, so i thought i would try a samsung. I did the whole flash without a problem but when i put a original game in it says you need an xbox 360 to play this disc and backup games say that the game is dirty or damaged. Im not sure if it flashed right but it seems to see backups as games. This was a practice box and the drive might not have worked right in the first place. Looks like the original FW dumped fine. However, those errors usually indicate a dying laser, which is why you are getting dirty disc errors.

I'm running into the .Error!. problem first thing at boot as well. I think that I will probably spin the 1.5 version tonight as a stop-gap but unfortunately, my desktop pc does not support USB boot. The bios lists "usb floppy" as a boot option (it's a PcChips M810LR7 motherboard if anybody out there has a bios that supports usb hard drive boot) but that option won't boot your USB mod. I think that a fair number of people may end up stuck between this rock and that hard place. I wish I was better at Linux, I'm sure I have no idea what's causing the boot error on my system and I can understand why you would want to discontinue the boot disc because of the hard drive controlling hassle. I'm pleased that you've decided to keep it up after all but might I suggest you release a USB Boot CD image that's matched to the version of Linux you compile your software with for those of us without USB Boot motherboards? I see a tut for it here and I think I could probably do it myself if I knew what Linux you were running but it would probably be easier for you to release and bundle with your USB package. It might even let you discontinue the disc version after all. Thanks!

Wow, I didn't even know this option existed!

My USB drive just uses MS-DOS/FreeDOS, so it should be supported by this 'USB Boot Disc' quite easily.

Let me look into it, I might include it as a support disc for booting the USB version in the future.

In the mean time, go ahead and feel free to experiment.

Here's a bootable ISO of the floppy I compiled. I didn't burn this or test it so if it doesn't boot, let me know. Also, if none of the three USB drivers work for anyone let me know and I'll add some more. I stopped at three because I tested two before the Panasonic 2.2 one worked for me and it seems to have good compatibility but I thought I'd keep the other two in case maybe. That Xboxhdm 2 thing is pretty cool and I'm sure someone put a ton of time into it. Maybe it can boot a USB stick from a disc, I dunno. This usboot image that I made is just a quick and dirty little utility to get the job done.

Your GIGABYTE motherboard would work the best with my software, but your MSI motherboard should work just fine too. smile.gif

Maybe it can boot a USB stick from a disc, I dunno.

Now it does, so grub4dos is a viable method to boot from CD and transfer control to FreeDOS on USB. The best of both worlds.

but I just hoped that going forward as and when ?
will you be producing a new modification disc for any new firmware ?
I have 5/6 friends and  relations various drives to do ( all for no fee ) and your usb/cd software is my preffered upgrade method and the fastest
thanks in advance biggrin.gif

Hi.

Sorry to rise this from the grave but, since IX 1.61 is out by now, there'll be a Mod Disc with this updated version?

Yes there will be new versions of both the USB and CD based versions, but not until the Lite-On 1.61 firmware is released.

Right now only Samsung and BenQ drives are supported under iXtreme v1.61. sad.gif

Hi Frosty,

I have a Benq drive that has Lite-on spoofed.
Do I use "Benq" firmware or "Lite-on"?

The xbox had a lite-on drive that I replaced with the Benq.

Thank you for your time,

Hi Frosty-

Will the next modification disk allow for usb support with the maximus usb probe?  Would Win 7 help with that?

Thank you for your incredible efforts!!!

Hey thanks for the reply.
I wish I knew how to spoof the firmware!
I was hoping I could just read the current bin from the Benq
using Frosty's "USB Modification Software".
Then use the same software to apply the 1.61.

I wish I was better with "Jungle Flasher".

just wondering if this would work if one would replace the \FILES\BENQ\FIRMWARE\IXTREME.BIN with the 1.61 firmware renamed from ix161-benq.bin to IXTREME.BIN?

Any thoughts or people brave enough to try this?

That would be really hard to do with the disc verison because the firmware files are located in the boot sector of the ISO image...

But with the USB version it would be easy, and yes it would work. smile.gif

So all i would have to do is rename   ix161-benq.bin to ixtreme.bin and replace that file on the usb drive? That's all that needs to be done?

I've got some bad news unfortunately...

I've run into a couple 'brick walls' as far as implementing iXtreme LT into my software (specifically spoofing of firmware)...

Due to these 'brick walls' it would seem that my development of '360 Modification USB Drive' and '360 Modification Disc' has come to a halt.

The future of my usb drive/disc based solutions are unclear, so for now I recommend using either JungleFlasher or iPrep, both are awesome solutions.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. sad.gif
