just had a quick look, it appears to connect in a similar way to Hamachi (www.hamaci.cc) in that it give you a virtual IP (5.1.x.xxx) etc and creates a VPN tunnel between the machines.

I use Hamachi to tunnel to our server to connect via Remote desktop, very secure wink.gif

Nice

If anyone wants to play some Halo 2, PM me. I got it set up, but I can't test it right now because my friend is still at work.

EDIT: I saw the comment about hamachi. Heh, I run hamachi as well. My computer has sooo many IP addresses now!

Thanks Leaf Networks!
Now my Diablo 2 progress is  fucked, your little friggin installer made my PC go to a blue screen with white spots and restart unexpectedly. It happened while I had a minimized game of Diablo 2 running, now it says it can't load because the gamesave is corrupt. @ least 2 months of gameplay down the damn drain.

You're right, and I know better. But it (Leaf) sounded so interesting that I tried a little too quickly.
I'm not completely angry, first time in a while I decided I'd like to play D2, so it's not like I was really into it anymore though I did have a lot of progress.

Crap or not, it is giving a warning and I would have thought it should be discussed in case there was any real threat, rather than the program being dismissed off hand.

I agree...Norton and McAfee cause so many problems - it is amazing how many problems instantly resolve when I remove Norton from brand-new PCs (esp Dells) that I am asked to repair...I almost feel bad taking people's money for fixing their PC by simply removing Norton.

AVG has a free version and is definitely the way to go for AV software...

Damn, I did all of this with OpenVPN over a year ago, even with Linux. I especially like the part about "disk sharing". They make it seem like it's something magical, while I already could do this 10 years ago (securely!) over the Internet. The best part is that you probably do not want to share your entire disk. Hi,

I am pramod from leafnetworks. One of the ports we are using, 54321, happened to coincide with a Trojan, hence the error. It is a false positive. We are working to correct this situation and will have a release soon, within a week or so.

Thanks.

Program kept losing connection to its master server - nd when it did it would steal focus from whatever else I was doing - and when that was a game, it would make the game crash.
Uninstalled.

Umm, then why does the application take up 95% of my processor usage and halt incoming net traffic? It is a virus, plain and simple... so when your antivirus program flags it, its telling the truth. I think we need a news update on the front page warning users to stay away from this program. Its trash! Junk it now before something bad happens!

It takes up barely any memory and cpu usage on my computer, and it doesn't halt incoming net traffic on any of the three boxes I'm using it on. Maybe it just has a glitch with your set up? Maybe your AV is screwing it up?

AVG hasn't found anything on mine, and I trust it more than Norton smile.gif

I have been in pretty regular contact with the Leaf guys over the last few days and they have confirmed (by recreating the issue themselves) that Norton's does in fact detect that Leaf is opening up a port known to be used by a certain Trojan.

Leaf have said that they will be fixing this by changing the port that the program asks your system to open.

So for all you peeps that have been bagging Nortons and saying "my av is better and did not have any problems with Leaf", well then I wonder how many other progs you have installed that opened ports to known hacking threats and your av simply allowed it ....

In my experience it is better to be cautious and say no as soon as 1 person says they have had a warning and then do some investigating.

In this case Leaf admit that they have opened users of their program to potential hacking by asking users to open this port.  I would have thought that the developers could have done a basic google search on the port they chose for their new program and this would pretty quickly tell them which ones should be avoided .... not the best research by the devs.

Guys we're living 2006 here (well almost 2007), so why doesen't anyone say that does it only work with Xbox 1 or with Xbox 360 also? And if so, does it work well too?
Title: Leaf for Windows and Xbox
Post by: cap1 on December 29, 2006, 04:07:00 PM
Gmod and other pC games are very greedy and use 100% of the CPU. Leaf 2006 is just another application that lives in User Space not in Kernal space like other network drivers. If you are on a LAN, the ethernet driver lives in kernal space and gets realtime priority from the OS. Leaf on the other hand has to share processing with other application in user space. If these other applications are greedy, they will not give any cycles to the leaf process. In the furture, we will make this a setting in the application. Thanks! Jeff

If you want use Leaf for LAN gaming you must set the Leaf 2006.exe process priority to "realtime."

To do so:

1. Press CNTRL-ATL-DEL and select the Task Manager button.
2. Select the Processes tab from the Task Manager.
3. Right mouse click on the Leaf 2006.exe process and the choose Set Priority from the menu.
4. Choose RealTime from the list.

I've played Gear of War and RS: Vegas with this over system link and it worked better for us than when we played over XBL.

Now I would like to reply to the posts about the AV issues even though they are a bit old.

Just because the program is opening the port of a known Trojan does NOT necessarily mean that you are being infected with the virii or trojan, as far as saying your are surprised to see the other AV clients not flagging these issues most of the other (GOOD)AV programs look at the actual program to see if it is indeed infected before flagging.

Operating this way causes way less user frustration and I personally think it's better to be flagged for actual things.

Hello Fellow Gamers. This program works great  biggrin.gif ! Everybody needs to download this program & get on to gaming (especially modded systems). BTW, I'm setting up a dedicated gaming server. It's off site so I have to drive back & forth between locations. Once it's setup. I'll let you all know the server name. It's also a fiber line in so don't worry about bandwidth too much smile.gif.

Is there anyone out here that can get the source code to the prog & have it work on a xbox. They stated a linux version soon. Imagine a dedicated xbox game server that connects xbox/x360 games. No PC required. Now that would be way kool.  cool.gif

My gamer tag is Ripper75 for anyone who wishes to kick my sorry a$$ online (I'm not a good gamer, lol.)

See ya there.

Mine is "mr biggles" with no quotes, but all of my "Permissions" boxes are greyed out, so I can't set anything up.

How do I fix it?

fix it by adding people and adjusting their permissions once they have accepted your connection request

I added a bunch of people here on my "Friends" list and I still can't set permissions. I got some invites to join some groups, and I did, and now I can set permissions for everything BUT games.

Firstly, you can only change the permissions for your own networks, and also try creating a new network and adding people to that and then change the permissions.

Okay everyone using leaf, here is my idea.  I am new to leaf and only have 2 people that have accepted my request (of little consequence as i am only now figuring out how leaf works and have not been able to start a game yet). However in effort to make everyones list the most complete list of leaf users I propose the following.
First everyone add me bigpapasmurf.

But more importantly i think that since there is not a huge number of us leaf, every time you add a person to your list you should have them swap lists with you (you give them your friends list and they give you theirs).

Thats just my idea to make sure that everyone has the most users on their friends list as possible.  But who knows, I am a leaf newb.

Either way, add me

If Leaf works with games the likes of Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 etc, all we need now is it to have a design like XBC were you can search and join any game.

According to the Leaf Network ppl. This program is currently on the backburner and is not running. I had tried to compile a long list of active friends but no one ever got on to test it. So i eventually emailed Leaf, and according to them the development on the Xbox360 front is currently on hold.
Too bad, but i think MS wins. This ping filter was just way too smart

I'd be curious to see if ANYONE was able to play a game through Leaf.  My friend and I tried it Wednesday night and we were completely unsuccessful.  He has a 20Mb Cable connection and I have a 6Mb ADSL and live about 5 miles from each other.  No Joy.  We hopped onto Kai just to see and our ping reading was in the 60ms area, which is definitely not going to work with the 360.

Is the ping issue the reason why Leaf and more or less dropped the 360 development?

Hello, I'm trying to play online with Leaf myself (XLink and XBConnect are becoming a pain in me Captain's Corner) I'm HyperJinSaotome (It's based off of my Live Name smile.gif) but since my brother gave me a modded 360, I have to use Leaf to play, I have:

GoW2
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
UFC Undisputed 2009
Fight Night Round 4
MK vs DC Universe
