Sounds and looks pretty cool, they're even making it for Linux soon.
-
yup its sounds real cool... gonna download it and try it out tommorow!
-
Neat. They need a Mac version
-
Hopefully it works as good as Xlink or XBC on the system link aspect of it all.
-
hmm seems very cool i will have to try this out.
-
just had a quick look, it appears to connect in a similar way to Hamachi (www.hamaci.cc) in that it give you a virtual IP (5.1.x.xxx) etc and creates a VPN tunnel between the machines.
I use Hamachi to tunnel to our server to connect via Remote desktop, very secure
Nice
-
If anyone wants to play some Halo 2, PM me. I got it set up, but I can't test it right now because my friend is still at work.
EDIT: I saw the comment about hamachi. Heh, I run hamachi as well. My computer has sooo many IP addresses now!

looks really cool...gonna try this one tonight!
-
sucks, i can't get it to run on my pc. there is a patch in thier forums available but even after patching i am still getting a error. Good luck for everyone. their office is around the corner from my house so i might just take my laptop there !
-
Now if they made a version of this that ran on the Linux based Linksys router... that would be friggin sweet!
-
Thanks Leaf Networks!
Now my Diablo 2 progress is fucked, your little friggin installer made my PC go to a blue screen with white spots and restart unexpectedly. It happened while I had a minimized game of Diablo 2 running, now it says it can't load because the gamesave is corrupt. @ least 2 months of gameplay down the damn drain.
Leaf Networks ..!..

You're right, and I know better. But it (Leaf) sounded so interesting that I tried a little too quickly.
I'm not completely angry, first time in a while I decided I'd like to play D2, so it's not like I was really into it anymore though I did have a lot of progress.

Huh, act like you dont play emulators. tisk tisk
Shit, Killer Instinct is played @ my house about as much as Halo 2.

Problem:
My Norton's Anti Virus detected the following:
Details: Rule "Default Block Back Orifice 2000 Trojan horse" blocked communication.
Local address: All local network adapters(Back-Orifice-2000-1(54321)).
Process name is "C:\Program Files\Leaf Networks\Leaf 2006\bin\Leaf 2006.exe".
WTF?

Norton is lame. AVG and even Kaspersky is better than that crap.

Thanks for the constructive help .... NOT. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lurk.gif)
Crap or not, it is giving a warning and I would have thought it should be discussed in case there was any real threat, rather than the program being dismissed off hand.
-
Were you playing D2 single/open? bah, go play online

I agree...Norton and McAfee cause so many problems - it is amazing how many problems instantly resolve when I remove Norton from brand-new PCs (esp Dells) that I am asked to repair...I almost feel bad taking people's money for fixing their PC by simply removing Norton.
AVG has a free version and is definitely the way to go for AV software...

Damn, I did all of this with OpenVPN over a year ago, even with Linux. I especially like the part about "disk sharing". They make it seem like it's something magical, while I already could do this 10 years ago (securely!) over the Internet. The best part is that you probably do not want to share your entire disk. Have Vista RTM, gave BSOD and rebooted. Vista reported problem with driver that the Leaf installed. Oh well.
-
This is cool, cant wait for the Mac version!!
-
Woo who, man that's nice, they have a guy over there going out of his way to help people "pramod" is his name, helped me get it sorted out. This app has a decent chat client too. I'll have to give it a try for a week and see how it works out.. No X64 support currently though

i got the same warning. what is that all about? is this a false warning from norton?

i wrote leaf an email with no response yet.
anyone else have the same problem? any fixes out there people?
help us out

This is a very interesting program and it got me thinking...
IS there a way to play xbox games modded xbox to modded xbox?
I know this prg claims to do it but is there anyone out there that already knows how?
How? Sounds like a real cool prospect...

Hi,
I am pramod from leafnetworks. One of the ports we are using, 54321, happened to coincide with a Trojan, hence the error. It is a false positive. We are working to correct this situation and will have a release soon, within a week or so.
Thanks.
-
Now that's dedicated help right there
Now if only I could get PC games to work over it without lag.
-
Program kept losing connection to its master server - nd when it did it would steal focus from whatever else I was doing - and when that was a game, it would make the game crash.
Uninstalled.

Umm, then why does the application take up 95% of my processor usage and halt incoming net traffic? It is a virus, plain and simple... so when your antivirus program flags it, its telling the truth. I think we need a news update on the front page warning users to stay away from this program. Its trash! Junk it now before something bad happens!

It takes up barely any memory and cpu usage on my computer, and it doesn't halt incoming net traffic on any of the three boxes I'm using it on. Maybe it just has a glitch with your set up? Maybe your AV is screwing it up?
AVG hasn't found anything on mine, and I trust it more than Norton
-
Yo BongoBob you actually used it on an xbox? What games did you test it with? Anything I should watch out for?
-
I have been in pretty regular contact with the Leaf guys over the last few days and they have confirmed (by recreating the issue themselves) that Norton's does in fact detect that Leaf is opening up a port known to be used by a certain Trojan.
Leaf have said that they will be fixing this by changing the port that the program asks your system to open.
So for all you peeps that have been bagging Nortons and saying "my av is better and did not have any problems with Leaf", well then I wonder how many other progs you have installed that opened ports to known hacking threats and your av simply allowed it ....
In my experience it is better to be cautious and say no as soon as 1 person says they have had a warning and then do some investigating.
In this case Leaf admit that they have opened users of their program to potential hacking by asking users to open this port. I would have thought that the developers could have done a basic google search on the port they chose for their new program and this would pretty quickly tell them which ones should be avoided .... not the best research by the devs.

Guys we're living 2006 here (well almost 2007), so why doesen't anyone say that does it only work with Xbox 1 or with Xbox 360 also? And if so, does it work well too?
-
Gmod and other pC games are very greedy and use 100% of the CPU. Leaf 2006 is just another application that lives in User Space not in Kernal space like other network drivers. If you are on a LAN, the ethernet driver lives in kernal space and gets realtime priority from the OS. Leaf on the other hand has to share processing with other application in user space. If these other applications are greedy, they will not give any cycles to the leaf process. In the furture, we will make this a setting in the application. Thanks! Jeff
If you want use Leaf for LAN gaming you must set the Leaf 2006.exe process priority to "realtime."
To do so:
1. Press CNTRL-ATL-DEL and select the Task Manager button.
2. Select the Processes tab from the Task Manager.
3. Right mouse click on the Leaf 2006.exe process and the choose Set Priority from the menu.
4. Choose RealTime from the list.

has anyone successfully played an xbox 360 link game with this software?
-
I've played Gear of War and RS: Vegas with this over system link and it worked better for us than when we played over XBL.
Now I would like to reply to the posts about the AV issues even though they are a bit old.
Just because the program is opening the port of a known Trojan does NOT necessarily mean that you are being infected with the virii or trojan, as far as saying your are surprised to see the other AV clients not flagging these issues most of the other (GOOD)AV programs look at the actual program to see if it is indeed infected before flagging.
Operating this way causes way less user frustration and I personally think it's better to be flagged for actual things.
-
Whats your tag on leaf? Wanting to test Gears, since cant find decent pings on xlink.
-
Bump!
-
my leaf tag is Newf 007. I would like to try this out if someone else wants to. I usually play Rainbow Six Vegas.
Let me know.

Couldn't find ya, but I'm still unsure how to finish setting up Leaf. Are you able to browse people that are online playing?
-
Only if you add them to your server profile I think. What is your leaf tag? If we get enough people online with this we would find someone to try this out with. I only have Leaf running when I think there might be someone else on.
-
Ok if anyone would like to try this software out then add my tag Newf 007 to your program and lets see if it will work. Rainbow Six Vegas and Gears Of War seem to be the most popular, so let me know if you want to try it out. I have it installed but its no good if on one else has it.
Thanks
-
everyone add me. My username is ghettoc401. i have Gears of War, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Kameo, GRAW 2 and Motogp 06.
Oh yea, newfie, your username is not registered with them.
-
Ok I have just tested this program and it works ok but only with game that are not ping limited (if you get it to work with Vegas or GOW let me know). It works with COD3 but that is as far as we got (I had to take off). I will add everyone if they leave their leaf tag here and maybe we can get something going.
Good Luck and thanks to those who helped me try this out.

Hello Fellow Gamers. I've just downloaded & installed this Program as of 08-07-2007. Now my LeafID is Jagosix (Which is the same as my XBL GT). So please add me to your leaf network so that we can test this baby out. Xlink KAi & Xbconnect, watch out.
-
Hello Fellow Gamers. This program works great ! Everybody needs to download this program & get on to gaming (especially modded systems). BTW, I'm setting up a dedicated gaming server. It's off site so I have to drive back & forth between locations. Once it's setup. I'll let you all know the server name. It's also a fiber line in so don't worry about bandwidth too much .
Is there anyone out here that can get the source code to the prog & have it work on a xbox. They stated a linux version soon. Imagine a dedicated xbox game server that connects xbox/x360 games. No PC required. Now that would be way kool.
-
HFG (Hello Fellow Gamers). Well the Offsite server has been setup & the name of the server is CyberConnection. So.. give me your Leaf ID & I'll add it.
-
I've just installed Leaf and now am looking for a way to test it. My ID is Wattafax.
-
Crap. I can't get this to work. I've tried a lot of games, but every time I it's been the same. I go to system link, a game shows up, but when I try to connect to it it says "The game session is full or no longer available".
-
Ive added some people here my id is snakey
-
would be great if you could add me
the tag is anureysm(i spelled it a little wrong when i registered on this site so its anureysm not aneurysm )
-
Gonna give it a go, you can add me, leaf gamertag kevkamikaze
-

fix it by adding people and adjusting their permissions once they have accepted your connection request
-
I added a bunch of people here on my "Friends" list and I still can't set permissions. I got some invites to join some groups, and I did, and now I can set permissions for everything BUT games.
-
Firstly, you can only change the permissions for your own networks, and also try creating a new network and adding people to that and then change the permissions.
-
Hey guys we should all play halo 3 sometime. tag for leaf........ grandmaaaaaaaaa
-
hey guys! everyone add me, leaf tag is drabble, i have cod4, motogp07, getting halo3 and forza soon.
-
add me....Warclock
-
add me bigpapasmurf
Okay everyone using leaf, here is my idea. I am new to leaf and only have 2 people that have accepted my request (of little consequence as i am only now figuring out how leaf works and have not been able to start a game yet). However in effort to make everyones list the most complete list of leaf users I propose the following.
First everyone add me bigpapasmurf.
But more importantly i think that since there is not a huge number of us leaf, every time you add a person to your list you should have them swap lists with you (you give them your friends list and they give you theirs).
Thats just my idea to make sure that everyone has the most users on their friends list as possible. But who knows, I am a leaf newb.
Either way, add me
bigpapasmurf
-
Hey guys, I just got Leaf last night and I want to try this out, my id is galabadass, I think I've added most of you guys and sent invites already, if so please accept them, if not just add me. I got Halo 3, COD4, Gears, and GRAW.
-
Hi guys, please add me - xbox36
thx
-
If Leaf works with games the likes of Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 etc, all we need now is it to have a design like XBC were you can search and join any game.
-
Hey all,
This sounds awesome
I just installed it and sent out a few invites, add me: TheManSliP
I usually play Halo 3, GoW, ... etc
Cya around,
SliP
-
i tried logging in .. it gave an error ... then i forwarded port 6300 and it worked ... so nother coneections needed right ??? how do i start playing ??
-
hey guys sup. I copied everyone's Leaf ID n pasted it in MY FRIENDS on the Leaf program but i have not been able to connect to anyone. I heard about this CyberConnection network someone was settin up. I would like to join and if not, how do i get ppl on the Leaf program. I pasted the tag names and sent out invites, but so far got nothing.
-
I've added everyone and I got just about all the games lets game on....
-
have any of you guys actually played an xbox 360 game with leaf???
-
hey, i just Dloaded this leaf thing, my ID is gretsch-drummer,
hope i aint too late, and everyones still using this software
iv got GOW, COD4, Fight night 3, Dirt, pro evo 08, and good old halo 2.
ADD Me Please! (but im not gonna be usin it for abt 1 week, i need to go buy a vga switch so i dont need to keep swappin these damn cable round, but i will be on for deff')
-
According to the Leaf Network ppl. This program is currently on the backburner and is not running. I had tried to compile a long list of active friends but no one ever got on to test it. So i eventually emailed Leaf, and according to them the development on the Xbox360 front is currently on hold.
Too bad, but i think MS wins. This ping filter was just way too smart
-
ID = EviLEd76

I'd be curious to see if ANYONE was able to play a game through Leaf. My friend and I tried it Wednesday night and we were completely unsuccessful. He has a 20Mb Cable connection and I have a 6Mb ADSL and live about 5 miles from each other. No Joy. We hopped onto Kai just to see and our ping reading was in the 60ms area, which is definitely not going to work with the 360.
Is the ping issue the reason why Leaf and more or less dropped the 360 development?
-
well its mid 2009 and is anyone still using leaf?
-
This sounds great, now all I need is to get my buddies involved!
-
Hello, I'm trying to play online with Leaf myself (XLink and XBConnect are becoming a pain in me Captain's Corner) I'm HyperJinSaotome (It's based off of my Live Name ) but since my brother gave me a modded 360, I have to use Leaf to play, I have:
GoW2
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
UFC Undisputed 2009
Fight Night Round 4
MK vs DC Universe
-
We just got leaf too. trying to find 360 players.
Leaf member name is Alex1999.
Halo 3
MW2
LFD2
-
id: LumberStoan
So far Ive only gotten MW2 to work.
