Lite-on to ms25- ms28 using dosflash16
You need your LITE_ON KEY.BIN and INQUIREY.BIN
Here is what I have done
As a bare minimum you must have the benq xtreme firmware on your iprep boot device this will contain
Dosflash you don’t need Samsung extreme firmware but if you have it it’s still ok
(IMG:http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp176/buddy6_photos/iprep.jpg)
I have tried this on a PCI VIA sata card and a motherboard with onboard sata via
On both of my computers if the DVD rom Drive  was connected it would not work so pull ribbon cable out of the DVD rom drive  (I only have hard drive connected)
1/ plug sata lead into DVD rom, connectivity kit off or Xbox off
2/ Boot up into your iprep usb device or floppy disc that you have made I have tried both and they both work floppy is a bit slower
3/ when you boot up it says do you agree pres   y
4/ at the A:\ type CD   TOOLS
5/ should now be in A:\TOOLS
6/ Turn on connectivity kit or XBOX
7/type dosflash      look to see where primary sata is located you are looking for the line where it says
SATA  PRI MASTER  ATAPI TSST CORP  DVD ROM  TSH943A MS28 on my computer  the one with onboard sata is 0 and the one with the pci sata card is 4 so remember which one it is
8/it will say Do you want to resend the command until the drive responds press  Y      then hit enter
9/ turn of connectivity kit or XBOX, and then back on again
10/ it will say enter the number to read write erase put in the number of  SATA  PRI  MASTER
11/it will say  type R to Read  E to Erase or W to Write ,press R to read you might have to press it a few times, only when I did it it did not   work with first press      then  hit   enter
12/it will say Enter name of file---- type in  orig.bin  then hit enter it will start reading
When finished turn off  XBOX or connectivity kit
Now in the Tools Folder  on your boot disc you have file named  orig. bin off your ms25-ms28
Boot up into windows and make a Folder call it  XBOX copy and paste  your orig bin file in there and you’re LITE-ON KEY.BIN also you’re INQUIRY.bin ,you can save a copy of orig.bin somewhere else if you want
Open firmware toolbox load your orig.bin have a look to see if it has got extreme firm 1.4 on it if it has you are ok rename the bin file ix14.bin then go to step 13 if not copy and paste orig.bin into extreme firmware 1.4--- pick your speed  click make extreme firmware you will have a file called ix14.bin
Copy this file ix14.bin into your newly made XBOX Directory
13/Load your  ix14.bin into firmware toolbox have a look it should say ms28 extreme 1.4
Now replace key, click on small button next to save key in firmware toolbox open the Folder XBOX click on Key.bin click open ,do you want to save this new key now press yes then ok
Now to spoof the drive   click on tools/spoof Firmware click on (custom requires inquiry .bin) click on apply spoof go to XBOX folder select inquiry. Bin Click open then ok
Reload the ix14.bin back into firmware toolbox should say
Samsung TSH943A-Ms28 Xtreme 1.4 8 or 12 depending on what speed you selected
Firmware spoofed as DG16D2S-74850C
Key -------------------------------- your KEY.BIN off your LITE_ON
(IMG:http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp176/buddy6_photos/keye.jpg)
If it says this then go on to the next step if not you have done something wrong do it again
Flashing
Copy your ix14.bin into your iprep boot device into the TOOLS folder
Reboot into you iprep boot device
Go through steps 1 to 10
On step 11 press  w to write it will automatically erase before it writes
When it asks for a filename type in ix14.bin
It will erase and start flashing
Hope this helps somebody tried to make it simple
There are other ways to do this but if you follow this it will work for you
and you don’t have the 10 sec to contend with as in mtkflash

a lot of people use iprep to make a boot disc for benq and samsung
sansung uses mtkflash and the 10 seconds trick we are not using that method
so if you have got this on your boot disc thats ok
but we are using dosflash that is only set up on the boot disc by loading the extreme benq
all that is required relly is to have a boot disc with dosflash on it
using a iprep boot disc contains dosflash in the tools folder
we use dosflash in auto mode to flash the ms28 very easy

Using any other drive to a ms25—ms28 using this guide

Dump your firmware off you original Xbox drive
Then Dump you firmware off your replacement ms25—ms28 or use one that you have dumped before call it orig.bin
Load orig.bin into samsung xtreme 14 pick your speed, click make extreme firmware you will have a file called ix14.bin
Load ix14.bin into firmware toolbox should say samsung ms28 xtreme 14
Get the key from you original drive paste it into change key and save
Now to spoof the drive   click on tools/spoof Firmware click on you original drive apply spoof save ok
Reload ix14.bin back into firmware toolbox
Check to see if everything is ok should have
Samsung ms28 xtreme 14 -8-or 12
Spoofed as your original drive
Key same as your original drive
If that’s ok then Copy your ix14.bin into the TOOLS folder on your iprep boot device
Reboot into you iprep boot device
Go through steps 1 to 10 above
On step 11 press  w to write it will automatically erase before it writes
When it asks for a filename type in ix14.bin
It will erase and start flashing

I used iPrep to make my bootdisk, however, in the tools folder, all I see is:
FirmTool
MTKFlash
MTKFlash.typ

but not dosflash. uhh.gif

oh I see. I just copied dos flash manually into the tools folder.
In your screenshot you are using dosflash 1.6, which is not part of iprep anyway (they use some older version).
I have a VIA 6421A card, so I think dosflash 1.6 is the better choice anyway. I hope this thing lets me revive my bricked samsung ms25 drive. Any suggestions?

yes thats ok copy dosflash in the tools folder
what i was trying to get at was people make a iprep boot device , usb or floppy
they can then use this boot device to run dosflash in auto
if you load xtreme samsung into iprep it only gives you mtkflash in tools folder
but if you load xtreme benq it will give you dosflash in the tools folder
In any case when you make your ipep bood device it is recomended that you update mtkflash
and dosflash and firmtool on you iprep boot device because  these progs might not be up to date
yes dosflash in auto mode will sort your ms25 out

Amendment to the above
When you run dosflash in the tools folder and you read your firmware and call it orig.bin
The orig.bin file ends up in the root of A:\ not in the tools folder
So you need to add your ix14.bin into the root of A:\ not into the tools folder
I can’t edit my guide so I have added it here

you could try a different sata port
make sure your dvd rom drive in your pc is not connected pull out ribbon cable it can make a difference
is this what you get
this did not work because if you notice my pioneer dvd drive was connected
but if i try a different port i can have my dvd rom drive connected and it works ok (strange)

Great tutorial.

However i cant spoof the samsung correctly.
After i dump orig.bin from my ms28, i patch it with ixtreme 1.4 and replace the key and spoof the drive normally. (i tried both applying the key to the orig.bin before patching with ixtreme cause the orig.bin contained FFFFFFFFFFFF key due to being an aftermarket drive) Both ways, i flashed fine, no problem with xecuter ck3 pro but when i connect the drive to my xbox and after arriving at the dashboard (good!) i face the following problem:

Original discs AND backup discs wont play, they get recognized as dvd-video discs and as such i suppose there went something wrong. Before i embark on a journey that will leave me with less hair than bald seals i decided to ask what to do first. Maybe this could be a pot fix? Or what? If the spoofing was wrong, would the xbox even boot in the first place?  uhh.gif

I also tried using the ixtreme 12x fw for samsung directly, just replacing keys and spoofing, without using the orig.bin.

Again, nothing different. Can play movies just fine, just not games (originals or backups).

dump orig.bin
patch it with xtreme 1.4
spoof it
save it
then open it
should say
samsung xtreme 14
your key
spoofed as your orig drive
if ok rename orig.bin to ixi4.bin
put this onto root of usb bootable drive a:\
run dosflash
press w to write
when asked for file type ix14.bin
dont forgrt to save your key in a safe place
this shoud work if it dont
might be laser trouble

did the xbox work ok before did it read originals
dump the firmware again have a look at it

tip when finished dont forget to take these files of your usb pen drive because if you do many xbox like me
you dont want to write a bin file when you should read one then you will overwrite the key and xbox will be no good

thanks for the reply!

thats exactly what i am doing.

1) dump orig.bin (the firmware on the ms28)
2) apply ixtreme 1.4 on it
3) replace key with key.bin from the liteon (maybe not correct key? it IS a key however, not CCCCC)
4) spoof the drive with inquiry.bin
5) check it says all of the above in firmware toolbox
6) put in on the stick
7) flash it with dosflash
8) put it in the 360 and try some discs.

2 things come to mind. The first thing is that the drive is dated at 2006. It never came with a real xbox, but alone from an eshop. Which makes me think it might have a problem with either the laser or something else.
It had an FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF key (empty). However, if the laser had problems or needs tweaking of the pot, would dvd movies PLAY?

The second thing i can think is that probably the key extraction was not 100% correct. I can try dumping it again and comparing. I HAVE an xbox360 with a sammy that WILL work given its totally new but i only wanted to flash a drive for my second 360 that comes with an HDMI port. Because if i take the samsung from that xbox i will still need to replace its drive, which is just a little better than doing nothing! smile.gif

Maybe the samsung is problematic, i dont know.
If the drive was not spoofed correctly would it even boot?

I've done everything right, but can't play original games

The keys for both lite-on and samsung are correct, there were no errors, and the flashe was successful.

what I think may be the problem is after I started up dos flash, going through the steps until your up to the part where your gonna flash, I did erase then write, could this be the problem?

Edit:what i should add is that this drive has had problems reading disc before, but what seems to happen is that the drive wont eject any disc that are in and give this game needs to be inserted inside a xbox...

It will erase and then flash this is normal
if everything checks out ok in fw toolbox then you have a problem with your drive
laser trouble, might need pot tweek or even new laser
for the price of good quality  new laser you might as well buy new drive
if you are having problems ejecting the disc could be something else wrong with drive buy a new samsung ms28 reflash problem over

I have an xbox360 that has a drive labeled as ms25. The motor on the drive is having major issues. I thought I might use this guide to replace my broken drive with an extra Lite-on that I had laying around. This is a brand new Lite-on that I collected back before you could flash them. I took it out of a box and put in a sammy for that person so I still have the extra Lite-on and all the files collected during the dump.

So I have dumped the firmware from the ms25 in this box and when I load it up in firmware toolbox this is what I get (now keep in mind that this drive works in the console if I manually put a burned disc in it so the FFFF stuff is weird)

I have a few lite-on drives  lying around myself which can be used for other drives
you need to spoof the lite-on as ms25 if thats the drive in your xbox
I have not been on this site very much since the xtreme 1.5 came out so I am not sure if there is a program to spoof them or do you do it manualy
your firmware dump of the ms25 is no good it should not be like this
if it has been moded with extreme firmware it does not show it and the ffffffff is not right
dump the firmware again  till you get a good dump
this guide is for replacing a lite-on with ms25 ms28 and not for replacing ms25 ms28 with lite-on

so get a good firmware dump of ms25
use extreme 1.5 tutorial to replace key
spoof lite-on to ms25 (not sure how easy this is have not done it yet)
use dosflash to flash firmware

I've dumped plenty of ms25's before. I'm not sure why I get the FFFF. It looks like its dumping just fine. I've tried with mtkflash and dosflash with the same results. I'm wondering if this box first had a hitachi in it and this ms25 is spoofed as a Hitachi (from the firmware toolbox results that's what it looks like)

Other than mtkflash or dosflash is there any other methods for dumping that ms25 firmware?

in fw toolbox after the hitachi GDR320L-0059 you get a lot of wrong characters
  that's not right
it does not say it is spoofed
how can it say hitachi GDR320L when its a ms25 you are dumping
try loading one of the orig bin files that comes with fw toolbox and see if they are correct
have you got any other bin files that you know to be correct try them in fw toolbox
dosflash seems to be the best for dumping and flashing the xbox
as you know if the key is bad and you flash the xbox you will end up with a bag of scrap
if it is an hitachi which it seems to be
then you have to get it into mode b with slax cd and use fw toolbox to dump firmware

The drive's not a Hitachi. It's an ms25. It's just weird that after dumping with both mtkflash and doshflash that it comes up like that in firmware toolbox. I have tried other orig.bin's that I have backed up from other drives and they come up right. I have verified now once again that burned games work in this drive. Weird that I can't get a proper dump.

Seems very strange to me
Is your drive recognised as a TS-H943A  in dosflash as the pic below shows

IPB Image

The key location in your bin file shows 4F00 that is for a Hitachi ver 59
and you would get ffffffffffffffffff if it was a TS-H943 firmware as pic shows

IPB Image

for a TS-H943 the key can be in one of three places as shown

IPB Image

use a HEX editor and have a look at the key position in these places
the pic below shows the key as 88888888888 because i have changed it you can see it
is at location 401A but fw toolbox will just round it off to 4000
so your key position in fw toolbox should show 4000 for a TS and not 4F00 for the hitachi

IPB Image

if you want you can E mail me your bin file and I will have a look at it
