Title: Infrared Controllers
Post by: kgonepostl on June 04, 2005, 01:23:00 AM
sorry but from what I understand the dvd remote is going to be infrared.  that's alright with me but there's no xbox controller ports and it runs on wireless and there's no more mentioning on what meathod they'll use for controllers.  infrared blows it's gotta be rf or udf or my brothers are gonna purposely try to piss me off.  Plz set me straight.

they are RF, and the remote is Infrared. M$ has stated that it is, also how the contollers roam like the signals used in most new wireless home phones. The controllers cycle through the rf spectrum and when another device(wireless phone, toy car, etc.) the controllers skip that channel.

Lets just put it this way. There will be no delay, rf travels the speed of light.

careful now, don't bring in physics to this conversation, i might get too excited! no it doesn't slow down significantly in air, even if it slowed down to 10% of its speed it would still be "instant"

I'm not 100% sure what technology msft is using in their wireless controllers.  We know it won't be infrared.  From the xbox.com site they say it operates on 2.4Ghz.  That implies to me that it is RF.
