When (i'm not gonna say if becuase WE ALL KNOW IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN) the 360 gets modded, it will be the ultimate Linux (Possibly Windows, Mac? Who knows) Machine: 512 MB RAM, DVD drive, USB 2.0 ports (4 wireless ports), 20+ GB HD, and (drools) 10 Ghz of processing power.
No.
Wait... yes
Umm the media center on the xbox will only work with media center 2005 computers.... thats what I read in the AZ republic I believe and other places. Guess I wont have to pay 80 dollars for media center extender again... thank god
BTW, I might not be on LIVE, but I still got PC games online. The ONLY thing Im gonna do it turn MY X360 into a BAD-A** HTPC. I dun care about the games!

Well...I'm following the Intel vs. AMD Dual core STRESS TEST over at tomshardware.com. I hope Intel gets their dual core together, because it not looking ALL that powerful. Again they're playing on the minds of the un-informed people who see 3 CPUs running a 3.2GHz, and let thier imaginations run WILD.
each core will not be dedicated to a different task, what would be the point in that, so what one core for playing games, that would be great we'd lose 4 hardware threads straight away.
excuse me, if you think that 3 3.2Ghz cores is not powerful along with a next generation graphics card then what is powerful to you? although its unfair to compare the power of a pc to the power of a console, just think of the raw power of the 360 itself.
true Mhz is not that great a thing, its really just something intel made up back in the day to show how fast these machines were, its really pointless now, theres so much more to consider, and in this case one important thing to consider is the fact that it has 6 hardware threads and three general purpose CPU cores, perfect for gaming.
and finally i ask again, yet in another thread, why is there another pointless thread about modding the 360? this stuff has been gone over a thousand times, and like i always say, why talk about modding it when you don't even have one yet? yes it might be modded or it might not, nobody here is in the position to say whether it can be or not. all you can do is post another "i think it will be". and besides, why would you want media centre on it anyways, don't you have a perfectly good xbox sitting there with media centre on it? what would a 360 version add to it that the xbox version didn't have?
To better things.. the Xbox 360 will have 6 cores.. but not in the way you think, Mi.crosoft had IBM build in SMT which is simultaneous multi-threading, which allows a core to create a second "virtual" core which is not as powerful as an actual core but it generally increases performance up to 50 percent or so, so you got 6 cores, which three are weaker "virtual" cores, also M.icrosoft says the CPU with SMT is roughly 80 times more powerful than the Xbox CPU.
So 3 cores and 3 weaker "virtual" cores
too
heres my ideas for hardware mods

To me it seems taht there inst to much too modd about it except that you can get free games.....
So what more is there?

First of all the Xenon CPU isn't 10Ghz nor is it just 3.2Ghz. It is three 3.2Ghz IN ORDER cores that are capable of running 2 threads at a time that all share the same L2 cache (so not like 3 separate processors). Also don't be fooled by the high clock speed. How do you think they got 3 cores running at 3.2ghz to fit on the space of one chip? Because they are in order not out of order (OoO) like PC processors are. It frees up a lot of space but also makes the chip slower compared to an out of order chip because the code must be tuned by the programmer and compiler. An out of order chip can change the order of its operations to run code efficiently while the in order chip can't meaning that many CPU cycles are wasted (one cycle is 1hz).
took the words out of my keyboard
linux on this thing would be alot of fun
