I never had problems with D-Skins except on 07 EA games. Crappy quality doesn't mix with inovation. I stopped using them however, because I don't let my disks lay around, let people put their dirty hands all over the underside, or move the xbox while it is on... My discs are still perfect, even after removing the skins.
This product is pretty much pointless. Still... someone will have to explain to me how this is supposed to work. Also, how are these foam pads any different from adhesive material you can buy from a hardware store for less?

The magnetic centers that are there to hold the disc in place for spinage end up pushing this product up enought to apply the pads to the top.
The reason why people will buy this instead of DIY is because the people that think so simply enough to not realise to just not tilt the console while it spins, are the same people that will easily believe that their games are at imminent risk if the dont have this and are also the kind of people that will pay anything to not have to open the console to DIY
a nice pic of how pads prevent scratches from llama

It might worth a try for that price!

why does people complain about the 360 destroying there disc. What the hell would you want to move your 360 around for while its running anyhow, Does people sit it in thier laps in the winter to keep warm while they play, ?
-
This is a very innovative solution, but what you're doing is basically inflating a tube to apply pressure to adhesive pads inside your xbox. All great and good until we hear of xboxes with improperly affixed pads, loose pads inside console, etc. etc. I wonder if the company is willing to assume responsibility for voided warranties, drive breakage, etc. I'd steer clear of this myself as well, even though it's a great idea!
-
Too bad that it does void your Warranty, unlike the ad says. Of course, only if you dumb enough to tell MS that it's there.

ehh an RV? Nothing like playing some video games on a long road trip.
I know a lot of guys that have TV's in their cars.
Think people, think...
This is a really nice solution especially for the people who like to show of their "accessories" in their cars.. mobile audio / video

If this works I would get it.. I done had GRAW crack right in the middle.. I have never moved my console. I'm a video game collecter, still got my regular nintendo with Zelda gold cartridge with instruction booklet, and box. I take 100% care of my stuff.. all I did was play the hell out of GRAW. Play for about 15 hours a day, and then it would boot me out of certain maps, tell the game wouldn't read no more. I checked the disc and to my surprise it was cracked in the middle... Also right now, my friend is experiencing some problems with scratch disc. All his disc are scratching real bad in one spot on differnt disc.. So this product might help.

Time for an exchange at your store or Walmart for having a defective disc. That's rediculous. There is nothing that game system can do to crack the disc unless the disc was defective to begin with.

i take great care of my stuff and just today my fifa 2007 was unreadable at a point and i looked at the disc and it was all scratched up in circular patterns, at different distances from the center (from hitting the laser that moves). It's been in my xbox since i got it a week ago, never took it out, played it probably 10 or so hours, the xbox hasn't moved from my entertainment center..... and the fucker is scratched. Then i looked at all my other games and most of them have the same scratches.
So for those of you who think it's a responsibility issue you're wrong. the console scratches discs so this is a great thing.
also.... it says it's 8 bucks on x-s front page but 14 at the place they link the preorder to.
what's up with that.

I've never moved my console while it's on but every game I have has the same tiny scratch on it thanks to this shitty drive. It's not enough to make any of them unplayable, but it does cause the occasional dirty disc error.
It's a very fine scratch, but it's a very consistent one on every disc, which means it's definitely the console.
And yes, mine is horizontal, level, and never moved.
Interesting, do you have a speaker system located near your console? Perhaps the bass is causing the disc to move around a bit, just a thought...
-
MS should have come up with this solution and shipped it out to everyone that was having issues (well everyone actually).
For those of you saying "just dont touch the console whilst DVD is spinning" thats all very well if its just you that has access to it. But what about those people with young kids or even pets that may bump the console whilst in use or perhaps even cause it to fall from its vertical position. Kids always enjoy touching expensive toys... especially if they have pretty lights. Personally I would never put the 360 in a vertical position... thats just asking for trouble I think.

Force pushing the disc tray closed? Umm no thanks, and plus if your 360 ever died how would you get them out, won't M$ freak out if they found those in there and say you aren't under warranty to repair cause of that.
And what is the blowing about?

pushing your tray closed will not hurt it.. ive pushed several thousand system trays closed as a video game repairman..and the blowing, it is a balloon that poofs up then the tabs get stuck to the top when it gets a big enough balloon

This thing will be great for people who want to put 360's in their car and maybe as a "just in case" for the home user.
-
any other retailors that we can buy this from? divineo's shipping prices
-
DVD+R DL's are still expensive. most games are not even worth the dvd+r dl they're burnt on...
-
This is a great product, I can finally carry my 360 around the room while playing on XBL and not have to worry about buying a new game disc the next day - can't tell you how many times that has happened!
But seriously, to all those claiming scratches with a horizontal non-moved 360, that is strange...
-
My 360 sits horizontal, level and never moved. It has scratched 6 copies of NFS carbon. The disc spins so fast that it begins to wobble and hit the laser. I ordered some foam pads from a replacement Thomson. I wasted so many dvdr-dl's before realizing the problem since it kept giving me DDE. So this product is not only for people who move their console, I never move my console and my discs get scractched.

Easy for us to say, but the world is full of idiots.
You never know, your little brother, son, nephew, or guber friend might mess with your 360 while it's playing a game.
I'm definately buying one of these....

I guess that's relative. $1.40 per disc is what I am paying right now. And $1.40 to keep an original in a safe place and play using a backup copy makes a lot of economic sense to me... The best part, just like dvd-r's, these things will just keep getting cheaper and cheaper.
I remember paying $100 for 20 dvd-r's back in the day, so this is nothing!

i totally agree. it's such a a great piece of mind to know that your originals are totally safe and unadulterated.

That's right. Eject buttons have a reason. You know for what? For ejecting something, not inserting. Just push the lid gently and the drive will do the rest.
Also, I remember the days of the cute CD-ROM's and CD-R's which were each equipped with a caddy. No bullshit about "pushing the eject button to insert it".

Well, that's not all that accurate. It is called an "Eject" button, because it is easier to say than "Eject/Insert" button. "Insert" button isn't as easy to say as well. And if you remember, back in the day when the term "Eject" button was coined, all that was around was floppy disks, and they could only be ejected, to insert them all you would do is push the disk in the slot (not press a button).
I don't see how anyone can argue that it is better to push the tray in and force the drives recovery mode to take over the process of closing the tray, than to just click the button and let it handle it on its own... I mean, sure, lots of consumer products block access to that eject button on optical drives thesedays, but that doesn't mean its the optimum way of doing it. I personally won't buy a computer case that has those stupid covers that obstruct access to the optical drives for just that reason...
-
why doesnt everyone just keep their reciept and go back to the store they bought from and get a brand new disc anytime you see a meesly scratch......all stores have the same policy a disc scracthed accidentley or intentionnaly will be replaced free of charge....remember it only costs the manufacturer penny's to press these things....and for all you that are backing them up....well quit complaining anyways most of you never paid for the original in the first place.....i dont see the need to void a warranty when the item being damaged is free for replacement....and if you dont believe me go try it....anywhere i bet the only place that will try to avoid replacing it will be the gamestops and eb's (which i dont shop at personally)
-
Did anyone actually give these a try? They seem to have dropped off the radar.
