Okay, I'm a 1st timer, so I've got my flame retardant blanket ready...
First off, I'd like to say that I am not the original artist of this "stencil." I found it on the net at Hipster Star Wars Stencils. I printed it out, and redid the outlines because it was pretty pixelated. I then took that printout to a sticker booth at the mall, and had them make a sticker for me (I was too lazy to cut it out of paper and outline it myself). Stuck the sticker on the 360, and began to cut away with my brand spankin new rotary tool (dremel clone).
I've never done anything like this before, but was so inspired by all the realy cool boxes on here that I had to give it a shot. And who better to take me to the Dark Side than the Dark Lord of the Sith himself...Vader. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)
Here is the original source image:
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/Stencildarthside.jpg)
Now for the early (7+ hours of cutting actually) stages:
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/650e3ba7.jpg)
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/684cb1e2.jpg)
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/588f2d82.jpg)
Please let me know what you guys think. I'll be uploading more pics in about an hour, since I've already done about 2-3 more hours of cutting since then. Back to cutting up my hands (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
p.s.
I hope no one has done this yet. I've searched, pretty extensively in my opinion, in these forums and haven't seen anything with the Sith Lord. Don't know why though...

I look forward to finished pictures of the cuts because as of now, you can't really make out any facial features...well, helmet features. The black stencil is kinda throwing me off too, will look better once it's removed and everything is sanded. Keep up the good work!
-
Its looking good. Look forward to seeing the window cut finished.

it looks....ehhh i dont know man i htink you should have left some of the places not cut and had them like air brushed
-
DAMN.... You get 2 thumbs up (snaps) in Z formation (an Old Living Color thing)
For real... I can see it now..painted Gloss black - purple and blue LED's shinning through
Giving you my "O" face...........
Props
Keep up the good work, - Using files for the sanding, cleanup?
SuDDeN
-
I think you should have gotten it airbrushed too
-
Thanks for the feedback guys. As far as it being airbrushed instead, I didn't want to do that. For 1, I've never picked up an airbrush, and I think the learning curve on that would have been much more frustrating and discouraging than this. Secondly, I wanted to have a window, with a stenciled image over it. I seen this stencil, and was like, "Strong in the force, that one is."
For clean up I'm using that pink 'polisher?' dremel bit and an exacto knife. I'm going to go and buy some sandpaper tomorrow...wait, it's the 4th of July tomorrow. Okay, I'm going to buy some sandpaper on Wednesday.
Here is my current progress. Probably it for the night...though I can't make any promises.
Added Text to the top row.
This image is a bit blurry (no flash), but it's closer up.
Thanks for the feed back gentlemen. Any suggestions on mounting the plexi or for paint or dye?
-
SIMPLY PIMPTACULAR join the darkside.. only way to go
-
looks a lot better now
-
Damn it, I just noticed I titled the thread WIC instead of WIP...um, I mean, WIC stands for Work In commencement???
-
Its looking alot better. Keep up the great work.
O'Malley
-
wasn't too sure about it at first, but now it looks friggin shweet! imo, you shouldn't do the text
keep up the good work!
-
Looks great so far, but yeah, DON'T do the text... or you can do it if you want
-
The text is gonna look really strange unless you do it smaller because the top vent cuts off some of it. The vader is really nice and clean

When I first saw it, I thought "retarded this kid is" (had to squeeze some yoda lingo in there). But now, it looks amazing. I say get some airbrushed detail, to give Vader some depth. If you can't do it your self, then just pay somebody to do it(will be cheaper in the longrun). Great work.
-
I would make the text smaller, so its not cut off at the top. Definitely cut it out though..It will look so much better than a blank chunk up there. Beautiful window though. Cant wait to see the text. The airbrush idea was good too. Go all out man, this thing is sick.
-
I wouldn't have any text at all! That looks freaking hot as is mate, nice work.
-
Thats so awesome... just flawless. Not sure about the text though :/
-
nice
bondo the remaining x360 logo or vader will get you.
-
Shit son! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
The force is strong with this one.
That had to be said at some point and you know it.
*run*
-
I would recommend airbrushing the text. That way you can have the proper font, colors, ect. Just my .02 cents.
O'Malley
-
yea i would say airbrush the text and the details, as for vader, looks awesome, nice cuts and all
-
Thanks for the feedback/suggestions...especially the comments on teh text. I haven't abandoned the idea of putting text, but I am going to change it to the Unleashed Vader Font, from the action figure line. I'll draw it up, and post it, and see what you guys think. Thanks again.
-
man dude I wanna see this complete, I think its gonna be one of the best ones ive seen around may the force be with you
From
The Dark Side
lol
-
Okay, I redid the text at the top...but I'm kinda just ready to ditch that whole idea. I wanted text that you could see the disc spinning behind, but now I'm thinking I'm just gonna drop the text, expand the window, and etch/frost the Imperial logo on the plexi directly over the disc. Let me know what you think anyhow. This project is alot more fun than I thought it would be...I'm even getting into trouble with the Mrs That's when you know you're having fun!

Dude, that sounds excellent!!! Put the imperial logo over the disk spindle, light that sucker up with a couple of red leds and you have one sweet sounding box!!
*drools*
I look forward in earnest to this
-
i personally liked the first idea for the text,... i like how it was cut off by the vents,..... i think it would be bitchin if you would have done that and not cut out the letters but cut out everything else around the letters ( i dont know if this was your original idea or not).... but i like the first text much better than the second.... just my opinion
-
don't forget bondo for the XBOX 360 text
-
your work looks great so far keep up the good work i cant wait to see the final product
-
Bondo the "xbox360" letters on the case. But I gotta say, thats one of the nicest cuts I have ever seen! Great job man, gonna light it up with some bright red led's? Then you could call yourself Lord nekkron99
-
Yeah red LEDs are where I want to go with it though I have never done anything like that. I'm a total noob I guess when it comes to this stuff. Only soldering I ever did was on my PS2 when I installed that modchip. Now THAT was a bitch!
I also want to frost the plexi that is going to be showing throught the cuts in his helmet. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be a couple of days before I can make any more progress with the Dark Lord...I kinda smashed my fingers tonite while "altering" some fireworks
Don't worry though, it was only my left hand, and it should be fine in a couple of days. I did however go out and buy me some paint, sand paper, and bondo today! Can't wait to finish him up!
Thanks for the input everyone. See you on the Dark Side.

Hopefully I stay on the cool list!
Um...thanks for the kind words???

I'm going to mess with some etching on some scrap plexi that I have. See how the Imp logo will look on it. I'll post after work. Good thing the right hand still works.

Okay, I think maybe I should clarify. I wasn't like mixing ingredients or making explosives or setting fires or anything...lol. In the U.S., there is this very comon firework called a "Piccolo Pete." It's basically this 4" or 5" tall screaming stick. That's all it does. It screams. Well, when I was a kid, I was showed a method to make it scream then pop. Nothing major...no fire or anything, just a pop. Well, when hammering the center (that's what you have to do to make it pop), I got startled by some idiot from across the street who shot a Roman Candle my way and missed the Piccolo Pete and hit my fingers instead.
I just didn't want people thinking I was some kind of pyro, or that I was making bombs.
It's cool to mod Xboxes...just not Piccolo Petes! lol
Next post from me is going to be Vader related, I promise.
-
hahahaha so you just bashed your finger, ah all is forgiven then
and i repeat..moron!

Yeah, I know...lol Shit's purple too.
Okay, now onto Vader related topics. I picked up some contact paper today, but no etching cream...can you believe every craft store in the area is sold out of the little bottles??? They only have the big ass ones that cost $30!
Anyways, here is a pic of the Imp logo that I'm going to incorporate into the window. I'm pretty much feeling I'm going to scrap the text now.
Imp Logo:
Time to start carving it out with my x-acto knife.
-
i cant really picture it but im sure u have a great idea for it, good luck with it take ur time
-
I just looked over all the progress, and planning you have done for the next stages of your 360 mod, and they are very nice. I'll like to see the turn out of this mod. Good job so far.

See kids...fireworks and hammers don't mix! Observe:
That one's for you Grim! You can put that on your not cool list...lol
And now, for the Imperial Logo. Okay, the following was done on a "tester" piece of plexi that I bought when I started this project. Since I've never done anything like this, (i.e. dremel work, frosting, etc...) I thought it best to buy a piece of plexi to do a few practice cuts on before I started carving up my 360 case. Plexi is easier to come by. Anyways, you can see a glory hole in the center of the Imp Logo. "Oh that little guy? I wouldn't worry about that little guy."
The piece of plexi with the reference picture underneath:
Same thing from a different angle so you can kinda see the cuts in the contact paper. I realized after I peeled the 1st piece though, that I should have left all the little pieces, and just peeled the 1 big piece. But that's why this is my tester piece:
And here it is all frosted. Remember though, I'm going to frost it the opposite way next time:
-
I just read the whole thread (which was full of awesome pix )
And I like the project
' I used to have a fire extinguisher, but I used it to kill a Jeti '
' The force is strong....in my pants '
I miss skithouse...
Looks awesome, Sam

Thank you all for all the possitive feedback. I'm glad to see that everyone is embracing the Scurge of the Jedi as openly as they are.
Any tips on getting better/straighter cuts with that x-acto knife for the frosting outline?
-
if you have an art store by you..go in. look in the marker/pencils/art class type section. they should tell these premade circle templates and premade templates that are curved out of whack. i use them a lot when i design for peeps. they work great for str8 edges. however i do believe all they sell are plastic ones, so u gotta be carefull not to over cut. i believe i have a metal one though, i got thaqt one in my colleges bookstore ahile back.
good luck.
-
xacto acctually make a knife for cutting curves, its got a swiveling head on it, ive never used one but i saw them last time i was in buying blades for my knife. Maybe one of those bad bitches would sort you out?
-
That Imperial Logo looks really friggen sweet. I would have to say your project is going extremely well, Also sorry to see your OWNed finger. Keeeeeep up the good work!
-
Alright gentlemen, here we go. I've resized the Imp logo, and placed it on the tester plexi again, this time using a different type of contact paper. It's called Royal Brites Ink Jets Window Decals. It is now the perfect size to be positioned over the spinning disc. I have taken a make-shift....EXTREMELY make-shift picture of where I would like to have the logo show through the window...oh, and I expanded the window. I still have to clean it up though. Without further ad... aud... um......... AND NOW.......!!!
New, smaller, better (not perfect though) Imperial Logo Stencil:
Now frosted:
Make-shift "vision":
Oh, almost forgot...here is a disc underneath to show the size relation:
-
My favorite pic in there is the one with the 8.5 GB Verbatim COASTER!

QUOTE(R1CE @ Jul 6 2006, 11:00 PM)
how do you frost it like that?? like what are you using and is it easy? but yea i found the tut
So do you still want me to answer that, or did the tut answer it for you?
-
Okay, check it out.
Contact paper could pretty much just be compared to masking paper/tape. Like when you paint something, you have to mask it off so you don't get paint on the stuff you don't want it on. I was at the craft store today, and they have stuff like that by the air-brush equip. I think it was called "masking paper." Whatever they call it where you are, make sure it is sticky on one side, so you don't get any over-spray from your spray can. I bought 2 types. Here they are.
I bought this from Michael's for $1.79. It's called clear cover paper. This is a 5 foot roll:
I also bought this from Michael's. This was $13.99. They are called Window Decals. It was a 5 pack, and they are normal 8.5" x 11" (letter) paper size:
The first one is waaay cheaper, but you have to trace the design yourself after you apply it to the Plexiglas, which can get ugly, depending on how intricate your design is.
The Second one may be more expensive, but it's the one I'm going to be using, due to its ease of use. I loaded my design up into Photoshop, stretched it to the same size as a Cd label template, and printed it out. Then I just stuck it to the Plexiglas, and started to cut. It seemed easier to cut also. It was kinda like the ink that printed onto it was sort of "raised" a bit, so the x-acto knife hugged it a bit (at least for me). I feel it came out alot cleaner than the cheaper paper.
As far as the frosting, I used a glass frosting spray. You should be able to find it in any home improvement store's paint section. I just cut out the design, exposed the pieces that I wanted to get frosted, and sprayed in sweeping motions, just as you would any paint job. I waited for about 4 minutes in-between coats. I used 3 coats. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes after the final coat. Then just peel off the stencil you made with the contact paper, and lightly brush away the white "frost" residue that is left after it dries.
You can also use etching cream, which I think would probably look a little better, but I couldn't find any at my craft stores. And that's about it. Here is a pic of the can of frost that I used.
I bought this from Home Depot for $4.17:
Also, don't forget to wash the Plexiglas first, let it air dry, then apply the contact paper.
Good luck, and I hope this helped.
-
that clear paper stuff is AWESOME! works wonders with colorful projects and u need to put in a logo or something. cant wait to see this finished! should work out pretty good!

-
Okay, I think it's Bondo Time! Does it have to be "bondo" though? Or is there an alternative that I can use. I bought some sandable plastic repair epoxy stuff, because I couldn't find a small tube of bonbo. Do they even make small tubes of bondo?
See b15ginz, I ask questions on my own thread.

glazing and spot repair putty is only for filling tiny scratches and pinholes. It should NOT be used as Bondo. If you use it to fill in a large hole or area, it will never dry and won't be durable at all.

UPDATE/Questions:
Okay, 2 quick questions guys. I'm pretty much at a stand still because I never used bondo before. I need to bondo the "XBOX 360" lettering, then I can sand everything and start to spray. Any bondo tips?
Second, what's the best glue to use when fixing the magnetic disc thingy to the piece of plexi that I'm going to use for the DVD case window? I mean I know I can use crazy glue, but is there any better recommendations? Which dries more clear than others, that type of thing?
p.s. The metal ring that hold the spinning magnetic disc thingy...how do you remove it from a DVD-ROM case to use it for the plexi?
Thanks
-
to answer your bondo question...
read the directions and follow them EXACT. also try to sand the inside of those letterings or else that bondo will not stick.. you dont need to go out and buy extra tools, use your finger and put bondo in there. doesnt need to be pretty, thats why we have sand paper.
good luck!
i think i can answer your spindle ? too. they sell a clear as day glue, find it, use that.

UPDATE: Bondo'd letters, and finished up DVD window. Will post pics as soon as I get new batteries for my camera.
What sort of epoxy / adhesive should I use to secure the plexi to the case? The "breathing" curve of the 360 seems like it's going to make a difficult fitting. Any tips?
-
cant wait to see the new updates man. What about heating up the plexi, and make it kinda curve to take shape of the 360s inhaled figure.
-
Yeah, I was thinking about that, but I don't know what it's going to do to the frosting. I guess I'll find out. Or I could frost it afterwards.
-
r you not doing a flush mounted plexi glass? if you are you dont need to worry about the "inhale" effect.
also, if your gonna use that clear paper you got, just print the symbol on that.
if your gonna do a flush mount you can put that symbol down than pour the resin. if dont right it would look like its one peice...get it? got it? good.
-
Actually, I wasn't planning on doing a flush mount. I never really concidered it. I read about how to do it, and what resin to get from that guy off of ebay. I don't know, it just never occured to me for ME to do it.
I think I just feel that that should be attempted by more experienced case modders. This is my 1st one, remember.
I think I should pm you my little secret feature that I was planning on adding.

Alright everybody. I'm back...with pics!
I've bondo'd the box, and sanded all the edges. It's ready for paint, unless someone here sees something else that needs attention:
I also mentioned that I frosted the plexi that was to be used for the dvd case. Here are a few pics of that.
DVD Tray ejected:
DVD Tray Closed:
This one I threw in, just because I wanted to show off my ammo can from my days in the Army :
And now the 2 pieces combined to give an idea of what it will look like. To further give an idea of what it will look like, I have inverted the pic to a negative...to show it closer to black colored:
So, now I'm kinda stuck again, because I have to paint and mount the plexi. Not sure how I should mount the plexi though. I'm gonna take a strole through tut land.
Let me know what you think gentlemen. Comments, ideas, dislikes....all are welcome.
-
nice job. whatcha gonna paint it? anything?
u should mount the plexi behind it. just because u got a lot to plexi.
red leds would look sweet with a blk paintjob
-
I'm gonna paint it flat black, and use this for the button.
I got it out of that "print your own faceplate" kit.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm gonna throw some red LEDs in there too.

Well, I'm here to please the people. Luckily I got it off without tearing off skin. I post those as warnings and cautions to others. Much like me smashing my fingers, the super gluing of my fingers wasn't the first time it's happened, nor with it be the last...lol

Alright gents, I just placed my order at Cooldrives.com. This is what I ordered. Can you guess what's coming?
Internal SATA ---> External SATA Bracket
and
8 inch Internal SATA Serial ATA Cable
-
This is kinda like what I thought about doing for my sith themed one... just a little less complicated. I like it, sense I'm a fan of the dark side. I just have to get back on the modding band wagon...
-
very nice, i havent seen any sith 360 that looks that good.......or even plans for one that looks that good.....keep up the good work

Is there one that's already been done? I thought that guy was talking about one he was thinking about doing? Damn it, I thought I was the first one!

Okay, I'm back with an A LOT OF PICS!!!
Updates without pics:
1. I've cut the plexi to size. Fits the window perfect.
2. Male-to-Female SATA cable will be arriving on Monday
Updates with pics...my favorite
Okay, so I've started to construct a switch that was inspired by Smartmod's SATA2USB mod. Mine differs because I'm not going USB. I'm going SATA 2 eSATA1. I will be soldering the eSATA1 cable when my order arrives. Where it's going to be mounted is still a secreto! Here are a few pics of my half-done switch.
Half-done switch:
Close up to show off solder job:
Switch in action. Game backup, up and running with SATA switch connected:
Okay, now here are the pics of the switch and the hole I made where it's going to be mounted.
"The Glory Hole" (ala Mike Hay):
The hole that I dremeled into the case:
Switch trying it's future home on for size:
SATA Cable connected to motherboard and chasis:
SATA Cable connected to mobo, chasis, and DVD-ROM:
Sorry about the pic overload. Please comment. Thanks.
-
what exactly does it control?
-
The switch is going to allow me to switch from the DVD-ROM being recognized by the 360 mobo to the DVD-ROM being recognized in my PC.
Switch in Position 1 = DVD detected by 360 mobo.
Switch in Position 2 = DVD detected by PC mobo through external SATA connection.
Not sure if I'm making sense.
-
looking good looking good. came out nice man. good job.
-
Looking very nice, can't wait to see more of it done. You have some great ideas here!
-
dude that looks pretty nice, Not a big fan of Star Trek but they do look sweet ... Just kidding Star wars lol thoughty it get ya ! Nice cutout on the case, althought i first thought that you should have inverted the pic / stencle because your highlights should be shadows because at first glance i couldnt pick out his face, but it'll probably look diffrent once shes fired up man, have you go a picture of your tatts too? sick stuff. Looks good man, Its almost got me in the mod to mod, Ive got a few ideas on paper but i dont want to spoil it. Im going to Mod it outright, and post it in parts just a step a day or somthing need the feedback, or , if i get too lazy or just dont have the time ill probably just make it a W.I.P too. I did not know that Lord Vader was here among us....

Yeah. I'm going to be using Krylon Satin Black. I've never painted anything like this before. I mean, yeah I've spray painted something before, but nothing that needed to look good like this. As far as me ever getting to it...well, I just need to take my lazy arse over to my wife's parents' house, because my apartment complex doesn't allow spray painting, and I really don't want to lose any of my deposit...lol. Next week, Monday probably, the painting will commence. ComicCon starts tonite!...at least for me.

You dont look like a noobie who would try and mod his box in one day and f' it up, I errections a black with a red pearl or somthing deep like that.
Well, I'm a noob when it comes to paint...I'm just not noob enough to rush into something and F it up. lol I wish I had the skills to do black with red pearl. That's actually what my ideal paint job was, but I'm not experienced enough.

I did however cut a nice little nick into the top of my left thumb with the cutting wheel last week. I just didn't feel it was big enough of a self pwnage to post.

Alright my fellow x-s'ers, I'm back with pics.
In this first pic, we have my completed female to male SATA switch:
Next the switch is installed, and is pretty much positioned where it will be when the case it put back together:
And here we have a pic of the hole I cut in the lexan where I am going to mount the male end SATA connector:
Now all I have left is the paint! I gotta find a day that isn't so hot though...it was 112 degrees f here the other day! Anyways, let me know what you think.

UPDATE: Finally! Okay, I went back and forth with myself on this, but I finally accepted the fact that if I wanted to be as proud of this project as I could be, I had to do this myself. I replaced the ring of light with red SMDs. The white error lights that I planned on doing are going to have to wait. The red ones were a bitch-n-a-half! Here are the pics.
A pic of my rofl board. Can't really make them out, but I assure you, the SMDs have been replaced:
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/closeupsmd.jpg)
Here is a pic of the ring flashing, looking for a controller:
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/4ringred.jpg)
Here's one to show the 360 working properly...I didn't F it up! yay!!!
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/noerrorredsmd.jpg)
And what would an update from me be without some pwnage! I got this from my soldering iron's coil thingy that it sits in when it's on, but not in use:
(IMG:http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/nekkron99/solderburn.jpg)
And now to for the regular LEDs that are going inside the case. Here is my 1st parallel. Thanks O'malley!

Actually bro. I would put error lights on. How will you know if you have a problem (error code I mean). You wont know unless you have 4 players plying at all time. You Get me?
-
To quote sicknasty413, "A real modder doesn't need error lights!" lol
Seriously though, I'm probably gonna add them later. I just want to get the case done. If it errors, I can just swap it out with an extra stock one I have laying around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The big bastage ammo can? It's for explosive rounds, but I'm not sure of the nomenclature. I'll check when I get home for lunch. The little can that my LED circuit is displayed on is for 5.56mm rounds. I have 2 of those cans. Don't worry, I used to be in the Army...I'm not some crazed militant.

I don't want to crud up the forum with another thread just for this question, so I'm gonna ask here...
Why do the SMDs have to be on their sides, facing inwards? The center one is facing up...couldn't the outer ones also face up. I think it would be brighter if they faced up...but I just thought about that right now.
-
because the stock ones are inward-facing side-profile smd's, and you might notice that all of the leds are a little bit outside of the diffuser. this makes it easier to spread all of the light evenly across each section of the rofl. if they were facing up, each section would probably be brighter in the middle and fade to lighter on the sides, thus making a spotty effect and looking bad. true, it would be brighter, but only in one spot and uneven.
^^^^^^^^^
that's what i think atleast
-
UPDATE: Done making my LEDs circuits. I will be installing them into the case tonite. Tomorrow I will be painting the case. It should be all done by Sunday. YAY!
-
woo hoo, cant wait, i've been waiting to see the paint for a long time, just make sure you take your time.

Ask, and you shall receive!
Okay, so I didn't make it to paint yesterday like I said I was going to...but I had good reason. I was with my future in-laws, namely my future Father-In-Law. I convinced him though that since I was about to become his son, that he should let me use his garage to paint in. Me being the smoooooth pimp that I am, got him to agree. Behold! Vader is finally the Dark Lord he should be! (though, me being the retard that I am, I forgot to take the faceplate with me. ) Here's the pics.
Here is the front and back of the case painted:
Now just the Vader side:
That stupid "O" is coming out, and apparently I didn't do the best job with the bondo. You can still see the words a bit. But screw it...I'm not gonna be re-doing it for a long time, if ever:
I'm very n00b to paint, so please don't be too rough, though I can take it if need be. I'm happy with it...except for the letters. Now to get the faceplate done.
This one is for you grim_d:

Thanks. I'll get better. Just gotta get started on another project I guess.
I already have the plexi cut out, and fitted right. I just have to sand the inside where it's going to be mounted. It seemes like the plexi is being squashed in between the case and the air duct. Oh, I still have to paint the duct and the faceplate.

Holy crap! Vader LIVES!!! lol...seriously, I've been soooo busy with my upcoming wedding (Sep 23rd), I haven't had much time...okay, let me rephrase, because that's not entirely true. My wife has been nagging me so much lately, that I haven't had the patience I require to finish this project up. I've been taking out all my aggression on zombies in Dead Rising. lol
This weekend is my free time, since today I am paying everything off for the wedding. Hopefully she'll get off my back. Either way though, this weekend is a 3-day for me, so Vader and I are going to spend some quality bonding time together.

UPDATE:
Okay, so I wasn't able to get the entire mod done...I couldn't find another can of paint, and I ran out. So the case is still incomplete as far as paint.
I did however pick up some of that Plasticoat Vinyl Color for my controllers. I read in a thread here that it doesn't paint the plastic, it changes the color "chemically" or some B.S. like that. Well, I'm here to tell you, it doesn't. It just sits on top of the plastic like any other "paint". AND it's sticky as piss! I donot recommend it. I will post pics of the controllers when I get home.
I'm thinking I'm just going to try to remove that color coating (being as it chipped off easily when I was screwing the controller back together) and just paint it with the same paint as the case...once I find a restock that is.
Me Am Very Frustrated With Mod!
-
I played around with a few controll mods on my old school box. They always come out feeling wierd and \ or the paint chip and rubs. Sure it looks cool but they suck to play with IMO. Throw some LEDs in that bitch and call it a day dude.
-
I know right? teh Sux0z! Oh well. I think I may have to just bite the bullet on it. I wish there was some sort of "dye" that I could dip it into...lol. That would be awesome! I'd have chemical fumes all throughout the appartment, my wife would kill me, but I'd have a black controller...lol. Ah well. I think I am going to just have to nix the idea. It came out very unsatisfactory! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

BLASPHEMY!!!
Who doesn't like Star Wars?! I have Star Wars Tattoos!
ANYWAYS...Here are the pics of the f'd up controller I did for Vader. The Vinyl coloring didn't come out that great. The texture sucks, and it chips! I was misinformed that it actually dyes the plastic...IT DOES NOT! Here are pics:
I LOVE STAR WARS!

looks deice... but, idk, regular spray paint seems like a better idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

lol...okay, I've seen you start to say that alot. Are you trying to start a new "word" or something? What the hell does it mean?
And I didn't do spray paint because I heard that it's not so good for long play, what with the sweating, and the paint rubbing off and what not. So I went this route, because I heard it was better. I'll give it that much. I did a pretty long gaming session the other day with it...and it was like 107 outside. So it was hot and my hands got pretty sweaty. No rubbing of color...it did feel a little wierd though.

looks good..

Um...okay. Thanks, I think. Just wait until I post a pic of my left index finger nail...it's the one I pwn'd on the 4th of July. It's not healing too pretty...lol

lol b15ginz.. hahahhaha.... true though.. my finger nails suck. Im such a biter.. its a terrible habbit.

Yo Nekk post a pic of your stars wars tat.

just a suggestion, as far as the dying goes, I dyed my white paintball mask black a few years back, if you bring a pot of water to a boil, remove it from the heat, stir in some Rit dye, and then put in whatever you're trying to dye and let it soak in there for about an hour, it actually opens up the pores in the plastic and allows the dye to penetrate, really neat, I came across this technique on a lacrosse site where guys were dying custom designs on their sticks, and if it's not dark enough, you can always heat it to boiling again and stick it back in for another hour. worth a shot.
EDIT: Here's the link, should work for your controller too, if not, you can always just paint over it...

That's awesome! Thanks! I think I'll give this a shot this weekend.

Let us know how it turns out. I'm wondering if the 360 and/or controller plastic would start to melt. Isn't it a thinner plastic?
-
-
^^^that sounds pretty cool...and makes perfect sense.. I wanna try it...but hmm, what to try it on?

Alright Gentlemen (and probably one or two ladies), here it is! Not the best mod ever, seeing as my skills are novice at best, but I'm happy with it...for now . I kinda fux0r'd the paint on the faceplate, but I think my button makes up for it. Let me know what you think. And with no further ad...um, here it is!
Vader!
Vader from far away:
Lit up. I need to put another row of LEDs at the top. I didn't think it would be so dim. There are 10 on the bottom:
And now...the Button!!!! And the scarred faceplate....
Here is the button lit up...which looks sooo much cooler than the camera can capture:
And here is one more showing the faceplate from an angle:
I that button!
Oh yeah...here is the SATA mod port:
Thanks for all the support people! I've absolutely loved working on this project. Took me forever...sorry about that. I've already got plans for my next one...and yes, it's Star Wars themed as well!
-
wow man, that is awesome.
I love that button!!!! The window is awesome, and the sata dealy is a nice touch. I like the lighting, but once you get that 2nd string up on the top, itll look a hell of a lot better. The paint is mediocre, but its your first time, so ill let you slide.
I personally think you should have done something with the dvd drive. Like paint the tray black.. and put leds in correspondance to that gear shaped looking dealy deal...that would look awesome.. And hm... what you doin with the HDD?
Anyways, looks awesome man, awesome, awesome, awesome.
I deem this "Teh Sex"

Oh, and I almost forgot...my assistants. Old School Style:
Chewy was the one who fux0r'd the faceplate paint. Lando is just a smoooothe pimp...a Galactic Pimp!
-
this turned out very nice. congrats on a very dark-side 360!
-
I will make sure to show Billy D. this mod next time I see him. Looks great Nek. Very nicely done.

Thanks gentlemen. And yes...I do want to add another string of LEDs across the top near the DVD. I think I will also have to paint that drive tray black like sicknasty said. It would make the Imperial Logo stand out more.
I ran into a problem though. I can't eject the tray while it is standing...only while it is laying flat. I'm pretty sure I know why, I just don't know how to fix it without gluing the tray to the mobo...which I DO NOT want to do! It's moving while it is in the upright position because the 2 screws that would hold it in place are no longer being used. They have no where to screw into. How do I fix this?
-
Nice. I like how the vader came out. The white backing makes it stand out.
PS- I second that string of LED's up top.

I'm a HUGE Boba/Jango Fett fan. That would make an awesome mod w/ all the Mandalorian logos and armor. The possibilities are endless.

That looks great!!
I didn't much like the cut before, but now it is actualy in a box, it looks amazing! The way you have 3 tones (clear, black and white) brings it out great!!

The white is frosting, only it looks a bit glossy because I had the frosting facing inward, that way it can't be damaged if someone somehow scratched it or something.

That, and the bare frosting will capture more light than the glossy side of the plexi, which allows for that awesome "glowing" effect that you get when lights hit it at the right angle

lol...yes. Every time I seen my own thread, I got the feeling that Vader was on his way to the welfare office (WIC) . Luckily I have a buddy who swings a big stick, and changed it for me.
Thank you everyone for all the replies. It was a great project to work on. Would you believe that Vader is all taken apart again though? Yeah...I still have things that I want to perfect. More lights and what not. I'm gonna order a whisper fan also...red of course.

Any update amigo? How was the wedding? Check out my mate's wedding cake!
-
No, unfortunately, no new updates as of yet. What with the wedding, and then the new cluttering of my apartment due to the little lady, I haven't had much opportunity to do any updates. They will be along shortly though, as I'm about to put my foot down!!! Actually, we're just getting rid of alot of her crap that we don't need. The wedding was cool though. One of my buddies even had the dj play the Star Wars theme AND the Space Oddessy theme songs during the reception. Yes, even my real life friends are nerds.

LOL Oh, he was right there with you, but the DJ didn't have it. He did however also have the DJ play the 20th Century Fox intro when the bridal party was entering the reception hall.

Yeah, I was thoroughly warned beforehand. But even though she never said I couldn't play it at the reception, I got an earful because of my buddy's previously mentioned 20th Century Fox gag. It was worth it though.

Happy new year guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Are there any updates on this awesome 360? Would like to know if its finished now...
Some new pics please (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Did you fix the problem with your DVD-Rom?

Jesus you start messing around with fireworks like that in the uk and next thing u know armed police would be breathing down your neck checking all body orifices for explosive materials. Anyway that`s one of the best star wars themed mods I`ve seen for a long time. Nice to see that the force is still strong. What about someone building a 360 into a millenium falcon !!!!!! Only kidding
