WOW so much wrong info on plasma displays....Read up-----a lot has changed since you last checked burn in maybe but with all new plasma display implanting some sort of safety guard against it (pixel shifting) you have to try pretty damn hard to burn something in your screen ---7 years max at full brightness maybe true for your 1st and 2nd generation plasma displays....Try 27 years now.....Plasma are in the 5th and 7th generations now and with prices falling so fast why not invest in a great tv.....

Because Sony have dropped all but one size now from their Manufacturing and that will be next. The TLO for Sony told me last time he visited that there had been too many problems with the Plasma range.
^you talk about false info and then go on and give some your self. All samsung DLP's dont have a delay it's only some. This issue had to do with the DLP chip in a few of the samsung models not all. MY friend had a first generation DLP 50inch and it has no issues with delay at all. Alot of the delay issues were also because of the conversion from 480i to 720p. On some of the earlier DLP chips in the samsungs this caused lag.
My personal opinion is CRT>DLP>LCD>PLASMA
For gaming i would choose a dlp or crt. My toshiba CRT rear projection 46inch produces incredible picture especially when watching any animated movie in HD. HDTV looks amazing too especially Disovery HD. Xbox looks good to. I cant wait to hook up a 360 to it.
Again for me LCD's just dont do it for me. But i would choose a LCD over a plasma any day.
i personally prefer DLP and CRT. right now i have a 55 inch wide HD crt projection TV which still looks great (expect for the friggin over scan, ughhhhhh) my next purchase will most likely be a DLP in the 65-70 inch range. just my personal prefrence.

As soon as the 360 comes in, I'm hooking that bad boy up to it to test.
I have played the xbox on all formats, and here is my conclusion.
Plasma > CRT > DLP > LCD.
LCD is far and away the worst for gaming; colors are not as vibrant, and no true blacks.
Plasma's have the best overall picture quality, in terms of color vibrance, clarity, and brightness. They are the most expensive for a reason. You get what you pay for.
So DLP or CRT is the best for gaming over lcd or plasma? Are they cheaper or more expensive than plasma / lcd ? Also do dlp's or crt's last longer than plasma / lcd ?
CRT is best for gaming. Last longest too.
for plasma monitors is there a feature that like every 15 or 20 min the screen "shakes" or does some weird picture transition that will last like a second or too to help wipe the static image on the screen
I think you mean degauss. I have never heard of an auto deguass other than when the power switch is turned on.
I'm a gamer and I've been looking for a "perfect" tv for games too and what I got is a 50" DLP, highly recommended by "XBOX 360 - the complete launch guide" magazine made by the editors of "Official XBOX Magazine", which contains everything you wanna know about XBOX 360. Anyway their ratings for TVs are:
LCD - 8
DLP - 9
Plasma - 6
CRT - 7
with lots of arguments pro/against. You should check it. I like the DLP but I can't compare with others, I haven't any chance to get to play on any of them yet.
double post.

I want to get a new TV too but the problem is that I have a damn fireplace in the middle of my gaming room and Im tired of watching TV on an angle while having my 7.1 surround system set up as if the TV is in the middle of the room. It looks like my only options would be LCD or Plasma but it looks like for games that constantly have heads up displays on the screen (most games) plasma would be no good and LCD looks too washed out.

Why not get a projector and a remote screen..
