Title: 3d Pc Games
Post by: maddmarshall on May 26, 2004, 10:40:00 PM
Yea I've been reading all these topics about windows on the XBOX.  I am just gonna flatly ask what is the best method to run a 3D PC game run on my xbox.  I have a xenium chip if that matters at all.

the best (only) way right now is under linux. I think tux racer runs (from old xbox linux pics) but I can't say what runs well etc as I haven't tried it.) I dont think too many windows 3d games will do well in xbox linux, not sure how far along the 3d drivers are for the xbox GPU under linux.

you could always run it on a real PC though  :jester:

About the tuxracer screenshot (and it's not good news):

3D does work, but.. it used software rendering; it ran at 1 fps.

They're probobly never going to get 3D working, so don't hold your breath.

If you must bug someone about it, on OFTC in #xboxlinux, talk to dmp.  Gimli sometimes works on video stuff. TJFontaine might also help.

rotfl. and windows doesn't?
in fact windows would run A LOT slower on the xbox and eats up a lot more space too.

you never tried linux on a real pc right? XD
compared to windows it runs much faster and if you want even more speed you can compile from source and optimize everything for your cpu.
then there's memory management. let windows run for 3 days and look at the memory usage. do the same for linux and you'll see there's much more free space.

i like this people who tried one distro on a game console which has somewhat around 42 mb of ram available (64 mb shared with gpu) and then tell everyone that windows runs better on there 3 ghz pc with 1 gb ram :D

gaming started on the pc, i don't see how it could suck. If games weren't on the pc then they wouldn't be on your precious xbox.

So not using the available memory is better management?

If memory is not needed by an application you may as well use it, then free it up as needed.

"how to port pc games to xbox"
That up there is the question...(if it is possible, i think not.)

but if there is anyone out there who has ripped there xbox apart looking for their lost kitten, please consider this request/curiosity like another scavenger game for lost change underneath the sofa.
