Title: Best Way To Replace A Hitachi Gdr-3120l Drive ?

Does anyone here know the exact step-by-step instructions (software steps) that I have to do to successfully replace this drive ? Someone told me I can  buy a similar drive and just exchange the old with the new, but I know there are critical software issues to deal with here. I admit I am a computer idiot so the easier the better for me. Thanks.

Provided that its a laser/lens problem or mechanical problem, just swap the mother board of the old dvd drive to the new drive.
