I made up a ready to use Stepmania archive containing everything but the binaries a while ago. It's got all the themes and stuff so all you need to add is the songs and xbe.

It's around 7.1 meg. The emule link is "ed2k://|file|StepMania-3.9-rc2aX1-nobin.  zip|7461203|C249FD93A92701C8CEAA0603D3AF713D|h=ZOP4KU2S7UW2PDLKH2CGI32E3ZKKDRAU|
/"

I haven't got anywhere to upload this to, so if anyone has any ideas, feel free to let me know.

Glad its working for you.

At this stage I have zilcho idea why the characters aren't working. In the later CVS version they were working perfectly, so it may be something simple. Unfortunately even the most simple things can be absolutely painful to track down...

If I can work it out, I will of course let you know.

this is good but there arent any real advances sure faster loading and being able to edit songs is good but breaking the characters killed it ill wait till they fix that to update

just curious how this differs from the ports done by xport? I'm still using one of his from a while back.

Cheers Iriez.

StepmaniaX v5 was based on the 3.9 alpha 7 version of Stepmania. This version is based on rc2 so it should be more stable. Its also got few xbox specific tweaks added like virtual memory, mapping controls, editing songs etc. However, as was previously stated there are a couple of issues such as characters not appearing and not being able to use smzipped packages directly.

Stepmania hasn't changed much since alpha7.
Here's the big question: Does it skip?

Even the pc version of alpha 7 was plagued with random skips in the middle of songs. They fixed it later on though.

Sorry that i am so late replying but originally they removed my version on Xbins cause it would cause confusion with the Xport version.

Now you can download the xbe on xbins and i am playing for 2 months or something now with this release and it works great for me. On the other hand i heard some guy complaining about his course file didnt working but i dont know about that.. I only know that it works here great and that i am using the X2 4891.67 bios atm but i used it with the Evox M8 too.. I use the Max2 announcer and the SMMAX2 theme (from the official Stepmania site) which is working.

The only thing that you may find problems with is the controller config at the first startup . You can fix this by adding/replacing this line to your metrics.ini file:
CODE
FirstRunInitialScreen=ScreenMapControls

under the COMMON tag.

I hope it is working for you and i wish everybody in the SM/DDR Scene good luck playing.

Have fun,

The link to the help/instruction file for this release is not good any more. Does anyone have a copy of the text file with instructions for this release?

From what I can see so far, this is a great port. pretty smooth gaming experience so far. But a few problems/questions:

1. Someone mentioned calories counters. How do you turn that on?
2. I cannot seem to get more than one player going. Pressing start on my second pad only starts the game on the first pad. And it seems like i only get Single and Solo mode. Other modes are grayed out.
3. I am able to map up to 3 controls. When trying to map the fourth one put a pad plugged into the 4th port, it kept took the key mapping from 3rd control.
4. what exactly is Pump game?

Thank you.

After poking around, I found some answers.
Both port 1 & 2 are mapped to be 1st player in the game. Port 3 is mapped for 2nd player. I've been trying to start 2nd player from port 2, and that did not work. And I guess you can only do key map for up to 3 controls. Since you cannot have more than 2 players and it does not look like you can have 2 players both playing 2 pads, I guess it does not matter if I cannot map 4th control.

I still like to know: How do I enable calorie counter?

Well afair (i'm not at home right now, so i cant test it) you should be able to insert your weight in a file called editable.ini (Uunder profiles)

Really nice port.  Working bgvideos and to a lesser degree, characters, would be really nice though.  Then I can be completely satisfied.  I'm thinking of porting KatzExtreme to it; I used to be really heavy into Stepmania theming so I know the metrics inside and out.  Probably wouldn't take too long.

Oddly, announcers won't seem to transfer properly for me.  Usually when I have long ass file names, they append themselves when I FTP them over to the Xbox, but this was not the case when I tried with an announcer.  The longer file names just refused to transfer.

Gar, how unfortunate.

Well, I've put it up on my webspace.

For all your Stepmania RC2aX1 needs download the guide here.

I will check if its possible to include this in the archive on xbins.

Edit: and btw thanks Master_Chiefzor for letting me know
