Title: Uh Oh, He's Done It Again.
Post by: emailer33 on December 19, 2002, 07:57:00 PM
well if you all remember my posts i was confused about why i wasn't being banned.  well i did a little research and discovered that i had done something no one else i know had tried yet.  i'm going to wait a couple days and make sure it comes out.  but anyway, i flashed pixel8's blank serial eeprom and went ot live.  sure enuf, it detected the mac as 0's and the serial was blank.  but even more surprising was it STILL CONNECTED.  here's a video for proof:

http://users.rcn.com...iler33/xbox.avi  it's 9mb, sorry for the size, but i hop eit proves my point.  it's in divx btw.

can someone smart out there somehow explain why this is owrking?  if no one can, i'll post what i did l8r.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, I hate to say it but it is almost always true, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. But hey, we can dream can't we? That would be very nice if he doesn't get banned after a couple of days.

I would hope if it stopped working he would come back and tell us.  I'll wait till he posts exactly what he did before I would attempt anything like that.  Can someone answer this for me though.  I considered flashing the pixel8's blank serial eeprom to my eeprom but I read posts from opjose where he swears it is just a zeroed out eeprom and the xbox will cease to boot?  Whats the deal, does it work or not  Anyways I remeber when pixel8 made it he said he could get onto live but who knows if it still works (I'll wait for someone more reputable or with more to say before I beleive it).  Another issue this brings up though is if this works and MS has to ban peoples account (maybe they can't ban the zeroed information for some technical reason) then is it leagally possible for them to close our accounts without refund?  I know they can block our modded xboxes but to sell someone a subscription and then simply shut them out without refund seems illegal (maybe thats why they havn't done it yet).  Anyways just my 2 cents.

Just I note from my experience. I had no troubles connecting to Xbox Live with a Mod active when I wasn't banned, but i was unable to join any Xnbox live games??

It appears you can connect, but it doesn't show that you can actually join a game.

you're the first i've heard of htis happening too.  bu ti'm buying a xbox live! starter kit so i'll see if this is the case.

this only happens if you don't unlock your HD permanently.  i did unlock mine so i didn't need the correct HD key to unlock it.  that's the trick to making pixel8's eeprom to work

emailer33:

Why don't you post the specifics of what you did.

We don't need a step by step, merely the general steps.

I'm most curious about the fact that you did not loose your video settings after flashing the blank eeprom, since this is primarily where it screws up.

It's not that I'm doubting you, but your post diverges greatly with what others have reported.

Are you using an NTSC Xbox or a PAL one?
Did you modify the blank EEPROM in any way?

I assume that you unlocked the drive, reflashed then locked it again generating a new PWD (or use the EEPROM utility to do this for you...), is this the case?

What mod chip do you have?

What BIOS?

What rev Xbox and kernel number?
Title: Uh Oh, He's Done It Again.
Post by: opjose on December 22, 2002, 07:18:00 AM
Yeah, which is why I don't understand why he said it works.

I wonder if he merely grabbed the encrypted headers and recalc'd the CRC's.

nope i left it unlocked after unlocking it w/ the original key.  so w/o a mod, it wouldn't boot anyway.

well i tried to reperform my actions by deleting my dashboard, and then was gonna reapply a backup, just to find out i had deleted it months ago to free space DOH!  sad.gif .  so i now have the 4627 dashboard rip thanx to complex, but the live update .xbe says that the "disc is damaged" :-P so i gotta go rent a game.  i'll post the tut to what i did after church today and just so you all know, this dashboard problem was my fault, my tut won't make it happen to your's lol.

yeah, those eepmod pictures only show the "factory" sections..

it doesnt show the encrypted region (Confounder + HDD Key + XBE Region)

what you could do it dump the configuration to a text file with eeprommer 4.5 and post your configuration here !

I thought that when you flashed ur xbox with Pixel8's blank eeprom that it wouldn't display any video at all...what ever happened to this. Or was that just because of the Evox 2.6 bios (including the original) and under not working with modified eeprom images.

well that's it

Yeap and I tried all of this too.

It "don't" work.

With the blank numbers using either ConfigMagic or Pixel8's blank EEPROM the XBLive tab bombs out with an error 21 as you've reported.

Restoring the valid headers brings it back to life, albeit with no connection to Xblive.

There is some missing item of information here, which resulted in a valid connection.

I wonder if you were merely utilizing the OLD XBLive dash and getting a valid connection as a result.

The first "update" you would have received via the XBLive service itself should have given you the mod chip detecting version.

The "mod chip" detecting version also bombs out when the headers are all zeros as per Pixel8 or what you posted.

Except so far it's not reproduceable.

Either you did something different; have a different configuration of some sort; or your not providing some key piece of information (not that I'm saying that you are doing this purposely...).

Other than using the blank Pixel8 eeprom, what did you do?

I've been playing with different combinations trying to reproduce what he did with no luck whatsoever.

I'm using exactly the same EEPROM, Xbox Rev., BIOS, Update, etc.

One interesting note:

ONLY CERTAIN BIOSes can handle the BLANK PIXEL8 EEPROM (which is actually invalid).

E.G. Xtender cannot, Executor2 can.

With the blank eeprom installed I no longer get the 6860 "Y" code (or whatever it was), but then I don't get any connection either.

When I go back to the normal banned eeprom I can see the kerberos packets being exchanged, not so with the blank one.

well i got it to dl, they are valid xyz codes but one thing, no offense dude but im a video editor and i saw 3 times in that video where it appears the clip was edited (which would explain the large file size editing+no compression=large files) one was after the xbox logo, it was unusually short, the second was the first time you moved the camera, it temporarily looked away then skipped a second and the third was when the live screen was loading it jumped at the end. And the codes are easily edited in adobe.
Title: Uh Oh, He's Done It Again.
Post by: Fuzzy on December 24, 2002, 07:37:00 PM
i believe the editing occured during the bootup screen (right after the orange logo)

Why would he edit it?  And replace numbers with Adobe?  Please.

Other than the shaking picture from when he moved the cam, I don't notice anything suspect.

And, a 9MB file...is that a large file?

Yeah, he Blank one doesnt work cause the XBE Region is invalid..

Hey Opjose, You've tried to generate a blank one with ConfigMagic Right ?

I think this guy is a Trol..   MS Employee to create confusion?

No  it actually works with the Xecutor2 bios unmodified (this was a surprise!).

When I switched to say and Xtender BIOS (thank goodness for those 29 wire mod chips in combination with an LPC mod, yes I have BOTH on one machine for testing...) the Xbox would not boot because of the invalid region.

So I actually tried EXACTLY what he said in identical hardware.

emailer/opjose, what bios EXACTLY are you using?

On XBINS I can find:
x2_4974_MultiVer_256k.rar (Edit, I am an idiot, didn't notice the 4974 lol)
x2_4973_v1.1_256k.zip
x2_4973_v1.0_256k.zip <-- I assume this is the one I want for my 1.0 Xbox..

and many variations of the later 2.

Also where is PIXEL8's site, I want to download this eeprom =)

AND before I forget, my XBL account hasn't been used/signed up, etc, and I think I read that you can't choose the country using this method? Is Country a required field or will I be able to register my account find without it. I don't really have access to any other Xbox' at the moment...

I put on the 1.0 4973 Xecuter2 bios and now I can connect - I didn't even change my eeprom... however I it says my subscription number is invalid when I go to add my account!?!?

Also now when I go to Xbox Live from the dash, it goes to a menu with manage accounts, add acount, and network settings (I think those are the options). B4 it would just go to the network settings

Nope, that is my spare, I figured I was banned on the main one... Guess now I have 2 working ones, unless the one I am using now gets or already is banned.

Can you get online?

I did online support, I'm not sure if I want to call them, I think they might have actually detected the mod at that step, just not banned. It instantly rejects the code, I've tried all caps, no caps, no dashs with caps, no dashes w/o caps, etc tongue.gif

I think I may have to call them, but I want to try setting up my account on a non modded system first.

Do you have to enter the credit card number to register? Or can I get someone I trust to register me online (if it doesn't need a CC#) on their unmodded xbox

So, should I actually phone in and say it won't accept my code? I just don't want to end up telling them my subscription number then having it banned too lol

What do you think? I wish I had a 2nd xbox to try this on =/

No, that can't happen. Accounts are not banned, Xbox systems are. Just tell them your subscription code doesn't work.

well i got it to dl, they are valid xyz codes but one thing, no offense dude but im a video editor and i saw 3 times in that video where it appears the clip was edited (which would explain the large file size editing+no compression=large files) one was after the xbox logo, it was unusually short, the second was the first time you moved the camera, it temporarily looked away then skipped a second and the third was when the live screen was loading it jumped at the end. And the codes are easily edited in adobe.

umm well first i'll say i didn't edit it.  i dunno how you could say that too since there are obvious TV scanlines, and the resolution is horrible.  plus a lot of the clips i laid down the camera crucid.  that's all i'm really gonna say for this one tongue.gif.

Fuzzy> i just checked the vid agin, and here are some of the points i have:
usually webcams make HUGE files, my webcam(when useing with the provided software) makes files 10mb/30sec, or 20mb per min, while MS movie maker does it less then an mb/30 sec. so thats one point for the big size. 2nd, i did no notice ne other things that you pointed out like the short main loading screen or ne skips when he moves the cam. but i did notice that his live logo did end very sudden, but my expericane with live shows that the logo is also somewaht screwd up. one ofmy frend's takes around 2 mins to load(while it fades into the live options unlike the one emailer33 has) but my other frends takes more or less 10 secs and fades a lil bit faster, NOT as fast as this one but it does fade. so i dunt knw, mabey emailer33 did edit or maeby he dident. but i guess until we actually get some proof, its gonna be out there

if you're webcam is making huge files, it's cuz your .avi compressor is set to uncompressed.  i have a kensington vga camera, in it's options i can set the compressor to MS Video 1.  that's why mine is sorta big, but not as small as a lot of videos.  and i cut out the audio, in case you didn't notice, that's gone, and then i reencoded to divx 3.0.  if you want proof i didn't edit it like say, another video w/ something moving in a constant speed or something, oh hell i dunno i'll do it sometime.

So I actually tried EXACTLY what he said in identical hardware.

i'm working on recreating these results in a video.  hope you get somewhere w/ this too  smile.gif

QUOTE
emailer33/opjose, what bios EXACTLY are you using?

I don't really have access to any other Xbox' at the moment...

i'm using x2_4973_v1.0_256k.zip.  i dunno if you can still get the eeprom online, his site is hosted over at xbh now but all his links were 404 last time checked.  just get it at xbins.  mine was modified tho, but i'm about to change that cuz i'm havin' trouble recreating that part.

well i hope this kinda thing helps and that this post gets us somewhere.

Well it's almost been a day now, ever since switching to xecuter2 4973 1.0 bios I can connect to xbox live, but it still rejects my code....

I think maybe their CRC check doesn't get xecuter2 bios, because I couldn't connect at all with evox 2.5 ybox bios..

I am still using my original eeprom, and I got the blank eeprom from someone on the fourms, but I don't want to use it if I can't choose a county to sign up =P

The probs. your having w/Xbox live probably isn't due to the modchip.  I've had 3 friends and all of them had some sort of problem setting up an account (I was ther to help them every time), and I made sure not to install a modchip until after live was installed, just to be even safer, especially with all the problems they've had.  Also, the servers have been horribly crunched due to a load that was much higher than M$ ever expected.  I wouldn't really worry about the modchip at this pt. especially if you can still connect, its probably just another wierd error.  Good luck!

Have you had a rejected subscription code?

The weird thing is that if I choose USA as the billing reigon, it takes 'longer' to reject it lol

Ok, I've gotten 2 other people to try it, results aren't good.

unmodded - code is valid
modded (xecuter2 4973) invalid
mine (same as ablve) invalid

Hey opjose, what do you mean it works? Booting your Xbox off a blank EEPROM or connecting to XBL with modchip on, blank eeprom, and X2 bios?

No what I mean is that the BLANK EEPROM will seriously screw up your machine!

It was a surprise that the Xecutor2 bios was able to boot the machine with the blank EEPROM in place. I knew that the compex bios was able to do this but not the Executor2.

Executor1, Xtender, etc. all result in a dead and unbootable machine.

In -NO- case was I able to get onto XBLive, either using the steps he described, the Pixel8 blank bios, etc.

On the other hand if you use ConfigMagic and use a VALID HDD Key (not password, which is something else) then disable the mod chip, things work just fine.

BTW: the blank serial number is -NOT- considered part of a valid header, so it does nothing to get you back onto XBLive.

Now there is still something we are missing that is KEY to fixing this problem.

He inadvertently found a way into XBLive which is VERY intreguing.

If we could reproduce it, it would be understood and made useful for everyone.

SO far I cannot reproduce his results on various machines.

Are you saying that the thing that distinguishes between being banned and not being banned is your hard drive key? What is this key? Wouldn't chaning a HD get you a new one?

Sigh, newbies. Don't bother to read, search or anything.

They want EVERYTHING "handed" to them instead.

Then they get pissed off when people point this out.

muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  muhaha.gif  grr.gif

The HD key has nothing to do with the hard drive you have installed.

Changing the hard drive does nothing.

Changing the HD KEY --WOULD-- get you unbanned if you knew the HD Key generation algorythm.

Got it? Good.
