Title: Update.xbe ?
Post by: Fuzzy on November 26, 2002, 06:23:00 PM
it will only nuke your dash if you dont have the original xbox dash as xboxdash.xbe otherwise its fine, but if you got the file as a LEGAL backup than you should remove the file for THE SOLE PURPOSE of not going online (had to make it legal  jester.gif )

update.xbe IS the dreaded file, if this is a LEGAL backup just remove the file, if not just dont touch anything to do with live. it wont just auto nuke.

Wow, 4 posts and he still doesn't get it.

You can either:

Delete the update.xbe file

OR

Don't hit the "Go Live" button

GOT IT?!

How will saving a mission cause Splinter Cell to run a Xbox Live file to update your dashboard?

Shanafan, sorry for NOT gettin  'IT" . I just want to make sure. I am thinking in computer terms as far as a 'update goes. I didn't think you can still save them game to the HD, ply it with no problems and nno nuking of the EVO dash unless you hit the GO LIVe button. I thought once the game was saved to the HD it would overwrite that dreaded file and nuke my dash, I guess it doens't work that way with the Xbox.  Now I can go out and get , play and save those LIVE games without worrying just as long as I don't hit that button.

Man.. learning is a bitch!

Actually splinter cell doesnt have a go live button. Just dont hit any extra content buttons anywhere or anything like that. Like in the game if it says do you want extra mission equipment from live just say no. Its like drugs, you know what to say to drugs dont you?  jester.gif

Ok well I did it !! I saved the entire game to the HD, I saw that dashupdate.xbe file load and thought I was doomed. Game is a botu 2.7 GB. I reset the xbox and crossed my fingers, IT worked! I can play Live games now and Save them to my HD without worrying about nuking the dash!!!

I know, I know I just can't select that "LIVE" option in any of the games or I am screwed.

Hey tell me something else,

You never got back to me wether I could hook up my xbox to my PC, transfer the game to my PC, delete that file and then transfer the game back to my HD on my xbox...

Thanks Guys.

Or....you can just delete the file straight off your XBox HD by using a FTP program

OK question. I have a backup of Splinter Cell. Obviously, I have to have my modchip enabled to play. You can not select the "download new levels" button unless u have ur xbox hooked up to ya modem. Which is a NO NO. So is there anyway I can get this content ?

Fuzzy,
Cud u please explain what u mean to be careful with Toejam & Earl3 sneaking up on
XBLive.  I just ordered TJE3  and plan to save and play it on HD.  My XBLive connection
works fine with my Mod Chip off with XLive game sessions.
Thanks in advance for any info.
