Title: Add Pmiii Dvd Wrap View To Mc360
Post by: muggsy on April 24, 2007, 02:31:00 PM
ok, I'm not working at the moment so I tend to tinker around at home looking for something to do, well today I found something. I really like MC360, but I love the DVD views in PMIII, so I thought, why not, I'll try and add the DVD Wrap view from PMIII to MC360.....

Jumping right in without reading instructions I've come a long way in these few hours....

Here are the results....

(IMG:http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/3721/screenshot001ak7.jpg)

(IMG:http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/6780/screenshot002gb8.th.jpg)  (IMG:http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7231/screenshot003yn3.th.jpg) (IMG:http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/6845/screenshot005so9.th.jpg)
(IMG:http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5817/screenshot006wa5.th.jpg) (IMG:http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/1872/screenshot007hj4.th.jpg)

Now I understand some of the pictures look silly, but I usually use Wide Icons, and the view is not designed for the episode caps from tv.com etc, but I am just demostrating the views, and the information provided.

You will need copy this code into

Scroll to the very bottom of the file and insert this code right before the last line (which is </includes>

and you will need to insert this code

CODE

VideoDVDWrapView

into the following files

MyVideoNav.xml
MyVideo.xml
MyPrograms.xml

Look for
CODE

WideIcon_Small

and copy directly above it is probably the easiest way

and lastly you need to copy this file to your MC360\Media folder
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/2720/diffusemirrorsq1.png (Right click and save as diffuse_mirror.png)

I would like to thank all parties involved in both PMIII and MC360, and I know Jezz_X will probably come out in 5 mins to say he's already implemented this is SVN, but stuff it!, I worked hard and I'm gonna show some people what I did.....

P.S. Yes I know I can incorporate diffuse_mirror.png into textures.xpr, but not everyone has access to SVN. And yes my code might be messy, It's my first time attempting anything like this, and yes I now appreciate everyones work a lot more .. you guys make it look easy

Only for PAL 4x3, not tested on anything else nad probably won't work

The files
MyVideoNav.xml
MyVideo.xml
MyPrograms.xml

are located in MC360\PAL\

oh wow, that actually doesn't look bad.  Somebody else did it a while ago and it looked funny.  Maybe its just the tall icons that make it look good.

Yeah I really love MC360, but on my standard CRT the icons views just weren't clear enuff for me, and I really loved the PMIII DVD, so yeah. My gf reckons it looks pretty cool as well. I've also brought across the Album view. It looks pretty cool as well, also good for your games if you use the default.xbe thumbnail.

Here are some screens

I loved your Monster Mod, it was too much for me, but from that inspiration I've made my own mods, for Media Blade, Games Blade and Live preferences. Fairly basic compared to what you did, but I'm happy

Excellent MOD :-)

By the way, what's the default height and width for these icons? I'm working on a 3D view for my DVD covers.

Nevermind, I forgot to put the pic in the media folder. Cool...
I just wish the Wrap view was bigger.

Here's the photoshop action file

3D Covers LARGE

It's a mod of the XBOX 3D game cover but with grey for the background and it's sized at:

256w x 383h @ 96dpi

Sweeeet! Thank you muggsy for the DVD Wrap (Nice!) and fredstar for the great PS Action file (two thumbs up). I spent all afternoon making up my 3D covers and the wrap looks great.

As already stated, the 3d covers look EXCELLENT with this view. Quick question: would it be possible to edit the wrap so the non selected icons overlap like the album art view in itunes? for example, if [] represents a cover it would look something like

[[[[ [] [[

instead of

[][][][]

Hope that makes sense

Okay, I've had a quick look through the xml, and skinning examples.. and well I don't think that is possible.... if you can show me a xbmc skin that has similar functionality I could possibly do sumthing

Gilby,
It is possible (as long as I'm understanding what you meant correctly) I was editting the part that you put in the CommonViewTypes.xml and it worked the way you wanted, but sadly I'm not sure exactly which part I edited for it to do that.  My suggestion is make a backup copy of that xml file then in the first part of code that you pasted in for this change the first posx that you come across.  Cut the value in half, upload, restart XBMC and check it, if it "kind of" worked, then go back and tweak that posx until you get it the way you want it, if it didn't work, then change it back and try the next posx that you come across.

I'm still messing with my copy and if I figure out which one it was exactly then I'll let you know.

Hope that helps.

(Keeping the top part so people can backtrack if they already tried this...)
I found what I think you're looking for.  If you edit the line
CODE

which is about 18 lines down from where you started the paste and change 104 to say 45 you get this...

(IMG:http://beta.ictcsc.net/images/screenshot.png)
Let me know if that's not what you're talking about (and I haven't figured out how to bring the right side closer yet either)

Sorry for the late response guys, I haven't been home much the last few days because thursday was my 21st birthday, so I've been hitting the bars smile.gif I ended up playing around with the commonviewtypes.xml a bit myself and came up with something similar to Archigos,  but was not happy with the results. Yours looks much better then mine, but I think its due to the tilted icons (I use the photoshop action posted a few posts up) as I edited the same line you did to get my results. My main issue with this view is that while it achieves the look I wanted, the icons lack any depth and make the overlap look a bit silly IMO. I may make a couple tilted icons and see what I think, but I have 99 movies in my library so it may be more hassle then its worth to me. And in response to muggsy, no I haven't seen the new 3d view yet but I am DLing the newest build as we speak so I will shortly smile.gif

This is how it looks with the non tilted icons:

Stupid question... is the IMDb icon on the left and the fact that there are destriptions in the lower right because it's in Library mode?  I haven't really messed around with that yet and if you see the screenshot I posted you'll notice it doesn't state anything for 1408.  Now the DVD's I ripped onto the box just have the name listed in the bottom and the other movies I have just say the filesize and nothing else.

I have set the content of the directory to movies so I can view the IMDb info via the menu but it doesn't show up for ease on the main page.

Its ok i did it. For anyone else interested in having this view in 16:9, just copy the above code in to Commonviewtypes.xml in the mc360\pal 16x9 folder.
