Title: Xbox Backup Creator V2
Post by: Redline99 on September 09, 2006, 05:06:00 PM
Well after months of development, a complete rewrite, lots of lost sleep,
way more money than I ever expected and so many bugs I lost count of them all,
I present to you, Xbox Backup Creator. The All-In-One solution to your backup needs*.

XBC for short, sorry Xbox Connect people. I tried to come up with something else. Smiley

I fully expect that not every burner out there will be supported. I will do my best
to add support for them if I can figure out the problem. It has been hard to diagnose
these kinds of issues without having the hardware to test on! A supported list of writers
would be nice to compile in the future.

I would like to thank those who put up with me and my test builds for so long!
And a personal thanks to Schtrom, by far the highest quality feedback on my test builds.

I would like to also thank a few of my testers who have endured!
   acidflash
   stonersmurf
   devonhiee

And many others who had both direct and indirect impact on the scene!

Stay tuned, I still have many features to add!

More info here!

With any errors can you turn on logging, detailed or debug setting and pm me last last 10-20 lines or so.  That way I'll be able to identify the sections of code easier.

NCspecV81 - this sounds interesting, how long did you wait, the app queries the drive and media info, it may take a few seconds, what does the log say?

Redline99
this program is very cool and easy to use and the image check is a good option
to check if the iso is stealth or not, but can you do a little mod to check also
the region of the game? biggrin.gif

See this link for info on how to check the region!!!

How to check region codes:
*************************************************************
Download xextool and wx360 (search google for them)

Open image with wx360 and extract default.xex, open xextool with command prompt and type xextool default.xex a.pe
This will extract the header files and in one header in the command prompt screen you will see game region code.

Codes are defined like this
Region free: 0xFFFFFFFF
Pal: 0x00FF0000
NTSC-U: 0x000000FF
NTSC-J: 0x0000FF00

There can be a few combinations for example this game has
0x00FF00FF
if you compare the list above you can see its NTSC-U/PAL

More defined (the first byte is unused, the 2nd byte is PAL, the 3rd byte is NTSC-J (bit 0 = Japan, bit 1 = asia), the 4th byte = NTSC-U)
**********************************************************

Thanks! cool.gif

NCspecV81 - Having it lockup like that is a symptom of the program waiting for the drive to return data, but nothing ever gets returned so it looks like it hangs while it waits.  Log info would help some if you have it available.

Got rid of the errros by copying wnaspi32.dll to the executable folder. Still will not see the drive though. Just like drive tools. It is recognized in windows. All other apps can see and use the drive.

Dood you rock great app. If may add just two sugestions.

1. Allow selection of more then one drive at a time, one for ripping, one for burning, have defaults for each.
2. Allow One click backups, stick in the original, stick in a blank, click copy, delete the image afterwards.

After this... well then you won't have a kick arse app, you should have the perfect app (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

BTW also seams to work great in XPx64

Daggo

Odb718 - That isa good suggestion, thanks

Zil_Daggo - I thought about that, maybe in a later release.  I wanted to do on-the-fly read/write without ever going to the hard drive, but to do that the app need to be multi threaded, which sucks for VB6.

blue_calx - I dont know of anyone who have been able to get the Hitachi to viw the game data without a special hard coded firmware patch.

Biosyntrix - what OS are you using? Are you logged in as an administrator?

Sc0rpion - Good catch, I will add it to my list to fix!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the people who are getting the error:

Action: Read Security Sector
DeviceIoControl Error: 0x00000079
The semaphore timeout period has expired.

Try using the app in ASPI mode and let me know if that works any different, please.

Someone with the DeviceIoControl Error: 0x00000079 error please pm me. I have a test build to try. smile.gif

Is there any need to put the Sammy in 0800 mode anymore with this app..? Or do I just hook it up and boot directly into windows and start the backup process...?

I'm running the C4E v3.2 on my Sammy at the moment.

Some people report better ASPI support with the Nero ASPI driver.

put the wnaspi32.dll in the same folder as the application.

On my Samsung SH-D152c the maximum read speed is 1.9x  and and takes more than a half an hour to rip the xbox 360 disc.  It used to rip them under 10 minutes.  What can I do to speed up the drive?  I have the speed boost option checked.

Heres a log:

 Creating backup image [D]
   Opening image output file
   Processing Video Partition
   Processing Filler Sectors
   Inserting TAG information
   Processing PFI Sector
   Processing DMI Sector
   Processing Security Sector
   Unlocking Game Partition
   Processing Game Partition
Setting read speed to 0x10
Setting SH-D162C error mode to 0x01

Yes but may I still advice that you take the 'cheap' way out and just use a temp file, at least have the option. Automation is always a nice feature. This would be relitivly easy to impliment, and could be a simple checkbox feature.

Also if you have a way to  accept donations I would gladly send, again nice work.

swede67 - I like your idea of XBK, kinda catchy smile.gif the other option was XBUC, but XBK looks nicer.

THE CRAZY SHADOW - That has already been fixed in my private builds, it will make it in the next public build smile.gif

hector7710 - Im not sure why,  how is the quality of the xbox disk, scratched? what is the Transfer Mode in device maganger, PIO or DMA?

TurboJailer - Glad to hear some success!

Zil_Daggo - Sofar this app has cost me
  Xbox Samsung $100.00
  Xbox Hitachi $100.00
  SH-D162C $60.00
  Connectivity Kit - $25.00
  Custom homemade power adapter $50.00
  Icon license - $100.00
  Blank DVD+R DL - $150.00 worth

Almost $600 dollars, not counting my time.  blink.gif
(So I hope you like it!)

HoRnEyDvL - Yes all in VB6!

One thing to note that if the drive has been unlock before you make a complete backup, the viseo part will be blank, If you want a true video section do the complete backup before without unlocking the drive.  The next build will have a warning.

I wish to clarify what I meant by cheap, perhaps you misunderstood my intentions, and I was a little vague.

I mearly meant an easier route to one click backups, this would be a considerabl less time consuming effort, then the on the fly approach. Cheaper because it is not as effective, and cheaper because it would take less time.

In time, I figured it would be very cost effective way to deliver a desirable feature.

I code a bit also and can appretiate very much your free contribution and efforts, that is why I asked if there was a way to donate, to help offset your cost, and perhaps gain a little extra influence, may I suggest a paypal link in you next release I am sure others may wish to contribute, and see this app continue to develop.

Again thanks for a wonderful app, by far the best tool out now, only hoping for more to come (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Regards

Daggo

Where do you get SH-D162C from in the US?  I have been searching high and low and it appears to be out of stock everywhere.  There seems to be a few places selling them in Europe and Australia.

Definitely add the paypal donate button with the update.  I'm sure many scene members would like to give thanks for making the ripping/extracting process more simple & less time consuming.

j/c, was the SH-D162C DVD drive labeled SH-D162C/RSWP or SH-D162C/BEWP?
The drives look a bit different (links below)

P8ntballer23 -
I'm not sure what you mean.  If you have an ISO already made it will write it.  The app doesn't care where it came from really.  If you have the backup in the seperate files video/PFI/DMI/SS/game then you will need to merge them first.  A later version will add merging, I'm still deciding on how the user interface should look/behave with all that, otherwise its not hard to program for.

The paypal is a nice jesture but, I wouldn't do that. The xbox is a hobby of mine and I would feel like a sell out to accept money for it

And for the people with:

The semaphore timeout period has expired.

Are you useing an external dvd?? In the research I've done this seems to be 95% of the time the source of the problem.
use google to search on         "The semaphore timeout period has expired." DVD

When I try to make a backup the tool stops at 3,51% and says:

Invalid security sector detected. Please check disk and try again.

The disk is ok, I've tried different games but always the same.

Can somebody help me?

I might be missing something here but.

How do you go about burning the images you already have stored on your Hard Drive. Also as soon as I put a Blank DVD DL +R in my NEC3550a and XBC is running the whole app locks up and I cant even end the proccess. I have to restart my whole PC. Reason I ask about the burning is cause I woul like to use something else to burn my backups with other than CloneCD as I dont know why but I cant stand it as a burning program.

Something isn't working correctly with Xbox One images and the SH-D162C.  I tried serveral with no success.  Using the TS-H943A however does work. So for now until the next update, only use the Samsung for xbox 1 images for use in the xbox 360.

And images made for use in the original Xbox (SDG605B) are completely broken.  The SS is in the wrong location.

skyline78de - Can you send me that SS and tell me the origin, thanks.

Whenever I try to burn a disc, it gives me this error:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Action: Set layer 0 capacity
Sense Error: 6 / 29 / 00
POWER ON, RESET, OR BUS DEVICE REQUEST OCCURED

CDB: SEND DVD STRUCTURE
 0xBF 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 00
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I click OK, it ejects the disk and says Write Failed. I've tried it with two kinds of media. Anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the program. I'm sure I'll get it to work.  biggrin.gif

j5350 - I have seen that before on some devices when doing then "Set layer 0 capacity" I'm not sure what causes it, but I'll do some reseach on it, can you pm me more information like, Writer model, internal/external, IDE driver versions, have you ever encountered this error in other software.

liteon6x -  "Buffer Error" that is a rare one, that means that the internal 20MB buffer cannot fulfill the requested bytes to feed to the writer, someting has stalled File I/O reading.

X-Staff - Wow, thank you Xecuter.

I extracted an image allright, then verified that it was in fact a stealth disk. Proceeded to burn and gave me a sense error at about 8%. I then tried to burn the image with Clone CD since it passed all the checks, This burned succesfully but is not readable. I must note that I extracted with a samsung ms/25 in 0800 mode using a sata to USB adapter. I use this same setup for ISO Buster and it works fine. Could it be the sata to usb giving it problems while extracting data from the disc?  Thanks

Hi everyone,

just a quick note to post my results and thank Redline99 for this great tool !  smile.gif
ho...before you read further, please excuse my english I'm french  laugh.gif

1 Successfull backup
2 toasters sad.gif

All 3 attempts have been performed on the same game using the same hardware/software setup:
--> original disc read from XBC 2.0 with Samsung SH D162C (fw 0.80 from Kreon)
--> image burned from XBC 2.0 with Pioneer 111D (flashed to 111L fw 8.26 from the "dangerous brothers")

Unfortunately, I do not have any screenshot/log of displayed error message but will post as soon as I get others.

This means that there is still something unstable in the way we backup discs, but we are obviously very closed to success  wink.gif

Thx again Redline99

try reverting you 111 drive firmware back to the original firmware it was released with, the db firmware ive noticed can be hit and miss on some systems.  The standard firmware its released with will autobitset without alterations right out of the box...(if i remember right the only pio drive you have to reflash is the 09, dont quote me on that though, its been a while since i needed to flash a drive).

Ive done several tests with the kreon firmware, and its very tight, ill suggest to those that are having trouble with this meathod to try out the usual methods first to run a comparison, it may be your hardware.  Just a suggestion to save confusion.

Hey great work Redline99,

I am always curious however why people in a comunity that supports freedom of information dont support Linux as much as i would have thought.  Would you consider creating a linux build or releasing your source code so others could recompile it for Linux.

(This is not inteded as a "bitch", it would be convenient for my to have more linux programs available for PC tools and Utilities)

marrabld - If I knew how to I would but I'm not that smart.

Some good news with Xbox One backups and the SH-D162C... The proplem seems to be with the security sector.  Make you complete backup image, extract the ss.  In the SS zero out the bytes between 0200 and 02D0 then merge the ss back in. Then burn!  I have made 2 successfull backups in a row doing this.  smile.gif

And also for now I would turn off speed boost when doing Xbox one images to be safe until the settings get tweaked a little more.

Let me know how it goes.

I tried to backup an XBOX 1 original - "Halo 2 Map Pack"

Used the tool to read and write the image but in my 360 it comes up with the error of "This is an XBOX game, put it in an XBOX".  Same deal with my XBOX 1.

I also tried extracting the image, ss, dmi and pfi and running the XBOX1 stealth isobuilder from the Xtreme3.3 package but still no luck.

I have made backups of 360 games fine using my Pioneer 110 and CloneCD.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thnaks for the fantastic job on this

1) I will try the write a burn on Liteon 165H6s a bit later (unless you say You do not expect it to be a go)

2) in you message above I guess it is including 0200 and 02d0 that must be zeroed.

llsTixll - Yes this app basically does what the isobuilder does.

sosotiit - it should work if you zero those bytes.  There seems to be a bug in the firmware that Kreon will need to address.  My solution is a temporary one until that comes out.  I was going to make a quick fix in the app, but I dont think it will take Kreon long to come out with something.

Just did, and it is a SUCCESS.

I did a backup of my splinter cell CT.
I zeroed 0200 to 02D0  (but kept 02d1 to 02d3 unchanged)
and it seems to work great.

plse confirm if 02d0  is to be zeroed or not.

the data 02d0-02d3 need to stay there only zero out 0200-02D0.

Anyone else try this??

Yep, tried this and a backup of "Halo2 MP Map Pack" worked fine in my 360 (MS28 Samsung with Xtreme3.3).

Didn't work in my softmodded XBOX1 though but that's fine.

Thanks Redline!

glad it worked  unsure.gif

keep the data starting at 0x02D0, sorry I wasn't to clear on that.  The last byte to be zeroed is 0x02CF

So starting from 0x0200 for a length of 0xD0.  rolleyes.gif

it seems to work Ok at this point.
Do you feel this byte is key and I should reburn it?

again huge thks to you on this and the great backup tool.

I did the same - zeroed out the 02D0 line but the backup still works.

If you backup an XBOX1 using the old method (dvdinfopro and isobuster), do you need to edit the ss or is it just with this tool?

Oh, another thing.  I tried to backup Fight Night 3 on 360 but I received a read error when trying to extract the image.

Tried with isobuster and no error.

not that i know for sure, but just taking a stab at from what redline said.  he mentioned that it seems to be an issue with kreons firmware, and he believes that kreon will fix it soon.

llsTixll - Sorry about that.
What was the error when extracting the image?

Redline - the error was something like (can't remember exactly cos I'm not in front of my home PC at the moment):

"A read error occurred.  This is not normal for XBOX360 discs and should be considered an error.  Click Yes to fill unreadable sectors with zeros"

I didn't end up finishing the image and just cancelled it.

Don't know if that helps or not.

Redline99, I also tried the burning part today.
Results were GREAT, posted the results in cdfreaks (because I cannot upload picture to X-box-scene) if you are interested.

So It works great on Liteon 165H6S (fw HV9N with HT 5.03) and the speed selection is also functional for that drive (I selected 2.4x even if this drive can burn that media at 4x, and the burn was done at 2.4x)

about llsTixll comment on reading xbox one disc, I had the same. It was saying:
Read errors have occured
This is normal for XBOX one disk. Care needs to be given about the surface qualityof the diskas the cause of the read error cannot be determined.
Select Yes to continue and fill unreadable sectors with 0's
I finally had to do the extraction with schtrom because I was not sure if it was important and wanted mostly to test the adjustment to the SS.bin. Should we disregard the message or there is something wrong?

llsTixll - hmmm that is an error reading the disk, you can try to increase the error retry for that drive on the options tab or turn off "speed boost" or both even.

sosotiit- great news on the writing part!  with the read error on a xbox 360 disk I would be hesitant to ignore it, it may be a sector of data that you need. I would tweak the setting on the options tab and try again.

yup, I can't read.  smile.gif

On a xbox one disk you will always get read error using kreons firmware. Unless he changes how that works of course.  But I decided to atleast let the user know about them.  The app will try to reread that sector as defined for that drive on the options tab.  You can increase the retries and reduce you risk on scratches (this will increase read time) or you can lower the retry count and make reading go faster, but this will increase your risk of getting bad data on a scratch.

PS- "XBK" seems to be a good choice acronym for this app in my opinion.  Also, you sure you don't take Paypal as i would love to donate to you also.

switzch- If you selected "Complete Backup" then the app will do it for you, with the execption:
If you used kreon's SH-D1632C v.80 firmware and you are making a Xbox One backup, then you need to fix the security sector before writing the image.

xtreme_360fw- thanks, that is what it is here for!

But this was a bug, and has now been fixed, thanks!

Seems to be a little bug in your program or my setup is acting up. I ended up having to just burn my image with imgburn, which correctly identified the disc and burned my image successfully.  The full name of the meida is Verbatim DVD+R 8.5gb 2.4x.

This is a lttile off topic but does anyone know a program that will test the quality of a burnt disc and display graphs of the result?

In order to test a dvd you can use CD/DVD speed , it is freeware.

A great place to find info on it, is in the  post of CD/dvd speed at CDfreaks . This is an example of a result of a very good burn (for double layer).

For the rest cdfreak is to dvd burning and testing what this here is to X-Box, you can go as deep as you want.

You dont need to do this.  The "Complete Backup" option does this for you.  The only exception is with kreons .80 firmware there is a bug when dealing with Xbox One security sectors and require a small edit to make functional.  Kreon does have this fixed and he will release a new firmware soon.

as per Redline 99 message it is a one click operation, that is it. And that part is working very well, many of us have extracted properly backup of our games.
Now, I am really unsure about your Nec. I do not have one to confirm but from all the reading here I believe that they can be an issue (especially with the Hitachi) and be more inclined to see the problem there.

@ transam98 : There are a few reference to that in the first two pages of this post. It might be good that you activate the log on Detailed/debug and post the result such that people can try to help.

@Partyman: There is still a small bug in the Kreon FW0.8 for xbox one game that will be corrected soon. The recipe to correct until that is done is on page 6-7 of this post.
In short do a
1)whole backup of your xbox game,
2)extract the ss.bin from the image,
3) with a HEX editor put zero values in address 0200 to 02cf  and save.
4) reinsert ss.bin

burn, it works well, tested by a few here.

the stealth check on the video section is validating that there is real video there, not just a blank zero filled data.  Where did the video portion come from? My app?

If it came from my app when doing a "Complete Backup" was the game disk already unlocked?  If the game disk was unlock the the video section was not available to the app when making the image and it would have been filled with filler data.  When making a stealth compatible complete backup make sure the drive can see the video part.  My next update will issue a warning and ask to continue if the disk has already been unlocked.

I am also having the same issue with Video Failed! Data Missing. PFI is valid! DMI is valid! Stealth Check Failed! but when I burned the game and tested it, it worked fine. Disk was unlocked and everything checked out fine. I am using the xtreme33 firmware and I believe I did everything as I should have. lol a full tutorial would be nice. Yes it is easy but from start to finish including this opening xbox to burning disk would be niice.

Okay, I have everything figured out now. The mistake I made was from reading other tutorials saying that you want your disk to not show the video/audio ts folder (basically unlock the drive) well my game backed up perfectly with the drive locked. So basically you just boot your xbox, unlock it? with the 0800 dvd, turn on your pc, open XBCV2, put your game in and backup up your game. Awesome program.

From the readme.txt, it indicates working with both. you will find several post on that here and on the reference in post 1. So samsung is a go for x360 and xbox 1 and SH-D162C for x360. For Xbox 1 on SH-D162C you need to adjust the ss.bin as described in several post here.
yes xtreme 2.1 7in1 is working well.

Hi Big Smokey,
Is there a specific reason you get seperately dmi, pfi, ss and reconstruct the image? you introduce one more step with this.

Why not simply do complete backup (everything including dmi, pfi,ss will already be in the file generated)
then burn with a good burner Liteon or Pioneer are good and good media (verbatim) and it should work.

yeah, the burning part of my app is ok, but not perfect.  I really have never build a DVD burning app before so Im not 100% on the process.  It works really well with my setup because I can debug the process easier.  Its seems to be real picky in 3 spots, the very beginning, at the layerbreak and then at the end.  I can't recreate any problems here, so I don't really know the issues too well.  There a lot of factors, your system, your drivers, your burner, your media, my app, and the burning gods.  smile.gif

okay - just flashed my drive with Kreon's v0.80 FW, tried ripping using both Schtrom2.1Xtract and Xbox Backup Creator, both hang and give the following errors at 3.5% when trying to do the Security Sectors:

(IMG:http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7871/xbcli0.jpg)

I just installed ASPI drivers from Nero's website I'm going to try that when I reboot, but so far not looking so good for me.

okay, after a quick reboot and with the aspi.dll file in the same folder as Xbox Backup Creator, it is now working 50% and going strong, time to backup all my game discs now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

***REDLINE**** maybe you can add the aspi.dll file in the package? and maybe add to the readme that if it doesnt work with i/oerrors and timeouts, do aspi instead

Make sure the Hitachi firmware is OPA version atleast v2  (need the f900 core) to do ss extraction.

(but the Hitachi doesn't support reading the game partition, so you are still out of luck there.)

The aspi is a fix for the DeviceIoControl error. I will do something eight distribure a free dll or put something in the readme, would be better to fix it though. smile.gif

good luck

What's up Redline99?

Nice program, however, I got a problem.

I have an SH-D162C installed as external drive (because my case doesn't have enough room for it) via Firewire A. So, it's not showing up in the list of drives of XBC. Any ideas? (besides installing the drive internally of course.)

Thanks.

Has anyone successful made a backup with XBCv2 with an SH-D162C drive with an external enclosure?

Thanks.

BIG SMOKEY - The app will do everything.  Are you useing a SH-D162C to make a Xbox one backup? if so, kreon has a bug in the drive firmware what doesn't create a propert security sector.  You have to manually patch it.

gsx8o - Does it get assigned a drive letter before you start Xbox Backup Creator?

Kaper - what disk is that if I may ask? Is it an original?  The app can't determine it by the standard partiton sizes.

Yeah, it has an assigned drive letter, but I think it's not working because I removed a stock drive from a Sony external drive and tried applying the SH-D162C to the enclosure. I'm guessing the IDE to Firewire converter wasn't compatible with the new drive. The Samsung didn't even show up in DVDInfoPro. It works when used internally via IDE cord, so I know it's not a faulty drive. In a few days, I'll be trying out an actual external enclosure. I'll update the status, but if anyone has tried this already, please let me know.

I've had the program freeze up on me on about half my burns. My burner keeps blinking, indicating it's burning, but after I remove the disc, it's clear that it stopped when the program froze. There's no error message, and the window stops redrawing.

The other half of my burns have gone just fine.  uhh.gif

To Chemicalhunter...

If it's Xbox 1 games you are trying to backup....

There is still a small bug in the Kreon FW0.8 for xbox one game that will be corrected soon. The recipe to correct until that is done is on page 6-7 of this post.
In short do a
1)whole backup of your xbox game,
2)extract the ss.bin from the image,
3) with a HEX editor put zero values in address 0200 to 02cf and save.
4) reinsert ss.bin

burn, it works well, tested by a few here.

Title: Xbox Backup Creator V2

Ok whats going on with this program?. Backed up pgr3 the other day and all went fine.

Today I tried to back up nighty nine nights and it gave a read error. So I turned off speed boost tried again and it gave the security sector error. So I switched to aspi to try it again and still done it. Now here is the problem. Now the drive refuses to extract the sectors on any game , on any settings. PGR3 which backup up fine once , I tried again to test. Now that gives the error. Every game I try is now giving the error on security sector extraction.

I've tried Schtrom360XtractV2.1 now aswell and that also messes up on the security sector.

So basically , before changing settings to try and backup nighty nine nights it was all fine , after changing settings , the drive now refuses to get security sector. I've tried on two different pc's and no go. Just gets to the security sector extraction , makes funny noises and then gives error.

What the hell is up with that , why has the program appeared to of broken the drive?.

I've reflashed and still won't extract. Everything else is fine , just the security sector extraction won't go anymore on any program.

HI ALL, today i try to create an image of my Quake4 for Xbox360, with my Samsung SH-d162c+kreon 0.80 firmw. + XBox Backup Creator. During the creation of image, i read this message: "Read errors have occurred. This is not normal with Xbox360 Disks and should be considered an error. Select yes to continue and fill unreadable sectors with 0's. Select No to cancel processing." i click yes and then the read processing go very very slow... how i can to resolve this problem?
Title: Xbox Backup Creator V2
Post by: Redline99 on September 26, 2006, 03:38:00 PM
ThePartyman - very soon smile.gif

curtman75 - In theory a read error on a Xbox 360 disk is a media error.  If the app can't read it then then there is a good chance that if you continue your backup will be corrupt. Better info in coming in the next version to help you know if the error is in a file or blank space.

Min- interesting, I dont have a clue, I will ask kreon about that.

Kiwisensei - yeah the burning part is not perfect, for some people it works great others have problems with it.

chemicalthunder - which firmware are you using?

Software2 - see above. smile.gif

There will be some new releases soon, hopefully problems will ease up a little, or might just create more.. heh you never know.
Title: Xbox Backup Creator V2
Post by: Min on September 26, 2006, 06:27:00 PM
Dunno if this will help diagnose the problem redline , but I done some more testing.

Seems that it is only having problems , if the whole thing is tried at once with complete backup. If I just click drive tools , then security sector , it gives it fine and I end up with a 2KB SS file smile.gif. Also if I make the image with Schtrom360XtractV2.1.exe , but just the image , that is also fine.

So I seem to only be getting errors , if I try a complete backup sad.gif. If I do each seperatly , then it is fine. Also if I try a complete backup and that fails (which it does on ss extraction) , then try and just extract the security sector , then that fails aswell.

Hey

Did someone find a fix for the "The semaphore timeout period has expired." error?  The program was working perfectly (Win xp 64 installed) then I decided to reinstall my OS (now using Win xp pro not 64) and it's not working anymore...  I also used schtrom 2.1 but they both stop at the SS detection. I installed ASPI (nero version), in the same folder as XBC.

dream21 - in theory that should be good.  If you make a backup using the normal method (not my app) does it work then? Or you can aslo try Schtrom360Xtract, see how it goes.

wak4 - than is a known problem and is still being worked on smile.gif  Like you said, It seems to be related to driver or OS, as the problem occurs with multiple apps.  Is your drive in an external case? That seems to make it worse.

Please excuse this extreme newbie question, I have been doing xbox mods for awhile but the 360 is brand new to me. I have used the Samsung 162c to extract my files with Xbox Backup Creator but I am confused as to the proper method to play the backup I create with it. If my understanding is correct, I still need to flash my xbox dvd-rom with firmware in order for it to read the new backup? Is flashing of the xbox 360 dvd necessary? If I use this method no mod chip is necessary? Do I need to make any modifications to the image before I select write in xbox backup creator? Sorry to be so inquisitive but in all my reading none of this is crystal clear to me. There seem to many methods developed since the creation of the 360. Lastly is there a tutorial for using xbox backup creator? Do I really need one or is it as intuitive as it looks?
Thanks for your help.

Problem with Vista!

Just thought I would let you guys know that when I tried to install this I had a few issues.

It is installed fine but then when I ran it it gave me an error about "MSCOMCTL.OCX"

To cure this I had to turn off UAC in the admin tools and then download the file "MSCOMCTL.OCX" and put it in the system32 dir and tried to register it...Then I got another error!

A simple reboot with that file in the system32 dir seemed to cure it smile.gif

Hope this helps!

Just need some clarification on 1 small issue:

I have an Hitachi 47DJ with OPA 7 in 1, and have used Samsung SH-162c with Kreon 0.6 FW in the past to create backups. I initally made 5 coasters in a row before I worked out that unless I put the SH-162c drive into unlock state 1 (defaults to 2 upon media insert) using DVDinfo I would guarantee myself a coaster no matter what.

Once setting drive to unlock state 1, I have successfully backed up all 7 of my original games without a single coaster. The major downside though, was having to pull my Xbox360 apart to get the security sectors for each game.

Now using Kreon's latest 0.8 F/W and Backup Creator, (where most of the hard work seems to be done for you), I have made my first coaster again when trying to backup my newly purchased Test Drive Unlimited.
No errors were reported, but I didn't manually change to unlock state 1 and I always use Verbatim media.

Can somebody confirm Backup Creator working for them with the same hardware setup as mine WITHOUT having to manually unlock SH-162c drive everytime a new game is inserted ?
I would like confirmation if possible before making another coaster.

Thanks in advance.

confirmed I did all my games for  Hitachi 47dj/OPA2.1 with Kreon 0.8 ( and befroe that with 0.6) and they work perfect.
No unlocking with XBKv2 is needed. It is a one click operation  biggrin.gif , press START and that is it.

HI,
After I have downloaded the ASPI drivers, how do I get it to how up as an option on XBC?
Also, has anyone had success reading a game with XBC, but writing it with another programme? If so, what programme should I try?

Cheers,
Kiwisensei

I try to create an image but:
On one dvd first time I got an error saying:Read errors have occurred which is "not" normal for 360, but I can continue ripping. In that way I played with no problem A.T.M. most wanted..

I use 162c with 0.80.

On another dvd, same error but I stopped and ejected/loaded the dvd closed/opened XBCv2
and managed to rip the dvd with no problem.error gone. blink.gif

Now I have a game (condemned) that ALWAYS gives me read errors on ripping on the same % (cannot be exact though)

Is this normal?

Should I ignore those DREs and burning those images,
or should I trust the text telling it is NOT normal and delete those images???

PLEASE HELP!!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST again perfect work!!! cool.gif

charis_k - The new version has an improved read engine and better reporting of read errors.  You shouldn't ignore read errors but at the same time not every sector of the disk is used by the game.  The new version will help by giving you more information so you can make a better decision.

wertyxhts - currently I don't think the Hitachi can view the game data, give it a try but I don't think it will work

Kiwisensei - if the app can see the driver it will enable the radio button on the form to allow you to select APSI. try putting the apsi dll in the same directory as the exe.

Poom - I'm making a new install, hopefully less issues.

Same to me.

Used Schtrom Extract with no Errors on same Disc but i got errors when i use XBC with Speedboost. Maybe SpeedBoost is to fast. (Im using SH D162C on USB.)

Cant you make an option to select max read speed (no hard 0x10) so i can test the best read speed for usb 2.0?  rolleyes.gif

Hi redline99,
I've find some trouble with your program and a Sh-D162C
But First, System Config.
Nforce 4 with AMD X2 4,4 ghz
1 Pioneer 109 Ide1 master
1 Sh-D162c Ide 1 slave
1 Nec 3500 Ide 2 Master
1 Liteon Cdr Ide 2 Slave
1 Hd on sata 1
1 Hd on sata2
2 hd raid stripe in sata 3 & 4

Video Ati 800

Now the trouble:
if i flash the drive and reboot system, every time that i try to make full backub it read ss sector, if i try manually to read it i receive each time differen value.
If i try to use one time DVDinfo or Schtrom360Xtract i receive ss read error, nex time that i use XBC allways ss error, the only way to go back is to reflash the reader.

As you understand there are 2 strange think!
1 why different value each read? (Iuse XBOX360_SS_Merger_1.7b to read the value)
2 Why after use DVDinfo or Schtrom360Xtract i'm unable to take a good read?

I've allready try to swith off turbo mode and nero aspi.

I've try to use standard windows xp driver or nvidia ide drive but no solution

Any idea

Thanks in advance

Doesn't appear to be Windows 2000 compatible, due to a reliance on uxtheme.dll (which gives a "The specified procedure could not be found" error when you try to register it).

Redline....

First of all, great program....

I'm using V2.1 Build:0175....

I'm trying to make a copy of a Xbox 1 game... Should I use "Sector Mapper" for every Xbox 1 game??

It writes "Uncovered read error at Partition" what does that mean?

And it's taken 1 hour and 15 minutes, and I am only a 65%.... Can do something so it will go faster???

I am using the newest version of XBC (2.1) and it seems to be working correctly.  However, after burning about 5 Verbatim +DL discs using Peioneer 111D, I always get the same message while XBC is closing the disc:

(IMG:http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5332/errormssgbo8.jpg)

Any idea what would be causing this? FYI, I'm also using the Samsung SH-D162C with Kreon v.80 fw.

Thanks for the reply!

jazzbeam - That error is usually caused by a hardware configuration.  Make sure to only have the SH-D162C as the only drive on the cable and make sure it is using DMA.  You should also use kreons new firmware v.81.  What version of my app is that?  You should use 2.1.

Mister Scary- the error didn't come across in the post??

The Samsung SH-D162C seems to be real picky, especially when in an extrenal enclosure.  If you have an option, try USB 2.0.

111spider111 - I would love to have full support for the Hitachi.  I can currently Read Video, PFI, DMI, SS.  The problem comes in with the game partition.  I have not seen a Hitachi firmware that will allow reading the video, then unlocking to see the game data.  This would be my biggest request to Hitachi firmware hackers.

(by the way the new stealth firmware breaks some functionality in my app because of the nature of the stealth the app doesn't detect the firmwares features properly. It can be forced with a registry patch is needed, or I may come out with a small update.)

Before I release an update I would like more feed back on if the dvd writing has improved, gotten worse or stayed the same.

Thank you for your reply.  I understand that you are just the builder not the architekt on all of this Hitachi BS.   I can only hope that a firmware does come out that can unleash the power of the Hitachi!!!   Ha Ha.  Keep up the good work.

jazzbeam - that is a known problem with some drives.  I will prob to a release this weekend to address it.

karlpowell - you have done some of this but I'll say it anyways.  Make sure the drive is the only device on the ide channel (nothing else connected on the same cable) Make sure the DMA is on.  If there are still problems, try using a different ide controller.  This drive seems to be real picky.  If the drive is external it will error more but best result are using usb 2.0.

good luck

Great tool - Thank You! Seems easy enough to rip and record but,

Is there a guide that details each tab and option for those of us not YET in the know ?

I've read the ReadMe and looked on this forum as well as XH. If I'm missing it posted somewhere (I've seen others request this as well), a quick link is greatly appreciated.

thanks mate for your excellent program !

at first i couldnt get it to work with my samsung DH-C162 ( kreon .81 ) , it would get to 3.5 % and stall with an error saying unable to get ss  ( security sector ).

so after reading this forum and scratching my head i went into device manager and uninstalled the samsung drive then re-started my pc and let it reinstall the samsung drive !

then i shut down a few programs that was working in the background and tried again , guess what viola it worked used xbox backup creator and schtrom 360 i can now rip a game without any errors in about 10 mins !

dont know which fixed the error for me uninstalling the samsung or shutting down programs in the background , but i have to say it now works 100 % of the time with any 360 game no probs .

the only thing i can think of is that maybe the samsung is a picky drive or software conflicts , having said that keep up the good work and alls well that ends well , woof811 .   biggrin.gif
