Title: Xdvdfstools V2.0 Support Topic
Post by: VooD on July 19, 2004, 02:06:00 PM
CloneXB 2.3 released today uses XDVDFSTools v2.0 as base to perform its new functions, and as CloneXB 2.3 is in very very beta stage here is some info for those of you which want to use the XDVDFSTools updated by clonexb (the coder) to perform the same optimizations.

The package name is: XDVDFSToolsv2.0.rar (look for it at the usual places) and includes extensive documentation about each supported command in a pdf file, so I´ll center in the basic file layout dumping and iso making from an original disc.

You´ll need two files from the package:

- LayoutDumper.xbe : this is the Xbox executable dumper, its purpose is to save the disc file layout structure to a file so Xdvdfs_maker can use it to replicate the original structure.

- xdvdfs_maker.exe : the windows command line executable used to build the optimized iso.

Let start:

- Rename LayoutDumper.xbe to default.xbe and transfer it to your Xbox

- Insert a game disc, and load the new Xbox app you sent from your dashboard

- Now you should see a basic interface, (A) to dump and ( B ) to back, we´ll it´s pretty obvious what you want to do here. Push the (A) button and wait for the dvd drive to stop reading.

- The layout file will be saved at the folder where dumper´s xbe is.

- Push ( B ) to back to your dashboard.

- Make a temporary folder on your pc´s hard disk. Let say C:\XBOX,  and also another folder inside this one where the game files will be transfered: C:\XBOX\GAME

- Copy xdvdfs_maker.exe and yout newly created .lyt file to C:\XBOX

- Transfer all the game disc files to C:\XBOX\GAME via FTP (at this point maybe is a good idea to remove media checks)

- Now open a command line console (Start -> Run -> CMD.EXE), and change your dir to C:\XBOX\

- Type:

CODE
xdvdfs_maker -pad -order yourorder.lyt -newlayoutformat -opt1 C:\XBOX\GAME XBOX.ISO

(change yourorder.lyt by the name of your file, use "" if the filename has spaces: Ninja Gaiden.lyt -> "Ninja Gaiden.lyt", or just delete those spaces)

- Push enter twice.

- Now wait for the iso to be completed, be sure you have enought space, as will fill a entire dvd-r, 4483 mb.

Finally you´ll have a 4.3 gb XBOX.ISO file on C:\XBOX  ready to be burnt whith your usual burning software.

Remember you wont get any significative improvement if the disc you want to backup is not original, as probably lost any original optimization when was built for backup purposes. In this case you´ll only benefit from padding the files, so the overall read speed could be a bit better. If the disc you are trying to optimize is a backup and you still want to get some improvement, either ask somebody with the original disc to dump the layout for you, or manually edit the layout in a more logic way thant the standart order by filename. (also, notice not every Xbox original game was layout optimized by their developers. Panzer Dragoon is one of them, so manually editing the layout could improve the times and head movement). I´ll post some tips for manually optimizing layouts later.

I´ve setup a simple site where you can upload/download your layout files so other people could rebuild their non-optimized isos. Now there is only two layouts, but will be more if people collaborates.

http://xboxlyt.freeunixhost.com

Feel free to ask questions and report bugs to this topic.

p.d.: excuse my simple english  :P

Hey Vood,

Weren't ya'll going to start a thread with optimized layout files?  Where we could attach our own layouts?  Let us know....

Well, in theory we are supposed to setup a web for adding layouts in the future, when CloneXB is ended and bug free. Till then I guess we could add layouts to a single thread, altought the system would be very confortable as there some disc which can generate 25kb long layouts. If only we could attach files  sad.gif  , any idea? Maybe a temporary forum on a free server with attach files on?

can we pin this topic so that it doesnt fall to far in this forum.

As far as posting these files somewhere, right now the only idea i was think of is maybe some yahoo briefcase or something.  i know they give 30mb, its not much, but it's a start.  It early here, maybe later i can come up with something better.

There's also a site called Znail, that with a $10 donation you can get 50 mb.

Ok folks,

This was thrown extremley quickly so please don't mind...  I would like a process for layout files to come through, I'll be setting up an email for this case... until then if you would like one to be added please just post it and I'll take care of it... I'm at work and I can't do alot or spend alot of time on it...

Realize there are pages missing because I don't have files for them, I'll be creating them as I go.

Xbox Layout Files

If somebody know's how to do a better job a designing a web page please do so and give it to me, I'll publish it....  Thankx to Rahszul, I kinda used his site as a template..... I hope he doesn't mind.

Please email me your files at [email protected] and I'll get the posted up.  Also if you could include if it's a Dumped layout file or a manually optimized file.  So I can seperate them.  <

I setup a web so you all can upload/download xbox disc layouts easily.
http://xboxlyt.freeunixhost.com/index.php

This will be the official web for uploading layout files, till CloneXB and XBDVDFS_Tools are in final stage.

Regards.

Would be greater if clonexb could had time to release a usuable version of CloneXB. sad.gif

Anyway I believe the new tools are not having as much movement at the scene as should have if we want them to be the usual way to make backups in a near future.... sad.gif

Just got all 8 of my originals up. It's not a failure. We can still just do it manually with Xdvdfs_maker 2.0 and the new layout dumper. It does the same exact thing as CloneXB, just commandline. Yes, the CloneXb will ensure more backups will be optimzed due to ease of use.

-Vood you are admin of the new site correct. Could you make it so that we can see if there is anything in the lettered directories. I want to see when someone has uploaded new stuff. I can't click 32 times on A-Z to see if there is anything new.

I 've been following the "optimizing" thread for a long time, and I want to say .... Good job to all on this project!! Seems like a lot of hard labor between testing and coding, and you guys deserve a pat on the back!!

I do have a question - I've been using Quix - because I only have about 5 gigs free space on my PC to work with in building an iso, and it seemed that the only way i could build a large iso is my directly ftp-to-image (building an iso using the files on the xbox and ftping on the fly). Is there any way I can get around my problem currently, using CloneXB or XDVDFS_tools? all help is definately appreciated! ~JS

Nope sad.gif

I think the new web should be "xbox-scened" if we want people to start posting.

Btw yesterday I talked with HSDEMONZ and he told me he has some doubts about posting layouts cause "people could upload intentionally broken layouts" ....

sad.gif

Either people doesnt realize the advantages of this method or they are too lazy to use command line tools sad.gif

Maybe this could change when the updated CloneXB is released.

I have about 65-67 originals. I can get layouts for them if they would help. They all are NTSC. Don't know if that makes a difference. Hope more people start contributing soon.
Also, it would be helpfull if you could fix the dumper program to allow you to dump more than 1 game without reseting the program. If you rip more than 1 at the moment, it names the second file _.lyt. Thanks!!  Neo

I have checked the bug you said, but I couldn´t replicate it. It works fine for me.

I loaded the dumper, then inserted mitdtown madness 3, dumped the layout, then I changed the disc for Halo, and the layout also was dumped correctly.

The only known bug I can confirm about the dumper is the fact it fails to dump games with very very long names.

Try again with different games.

Also, on the Layout website, it says ?you? were going to type tips for optimizing layout manually. I would very much like to read these tips, and perhaps I can help manually editing these files. Layout site looks great!

For MooGUI Ive added a few thing already since im working on the optimization side of things.
- Ability to rebuild an original modified layout file to almost its original state (ie like your Ninja Gaiden), Im not criticizing it, just thought it would be nice feature to have for power users.
- Even more thorough file format checking (since we have the ability to edit these layouts)
- Make a layout file from a game folder on your HD so you can manually optimize it, though I'll provide the file size in the output.
- Ability to move dashupdate, update, downloader to beginning of disc
- Ability to move \media to beginning of disc (caveat, only available if \media contains only arialuni.ttf, dlcustom.xpr, sound.xsb, and wave.xwb) Ive seen some games that put other stuff in this folder.
- Ability to move \Xdemos or \demos to beginning of disc.

If you can think of any other easy optimizations let me know.

On a side note, I have been pondering on FTP, CloneXB made it look so cool and easy, too bad it doesnt work for me. But, more than likely MooGUI will not have FTP as that wasnt the original focus of it. But then again...

About the uploader info, if you look at the right of a file at the web you can see the name of its uploader. As I moved the files using ftp, there is no uploader name in yours.

Well, notice in Ninja Gaiden´s case the "original" disc was a release from a warez group, so the original layout was completly lost, thats the reason I had to do a manual optimization to improve disc speed and noise.
Also I use to optimize layouts from files on my pc´s hd using the -ordercreate option to generate a plain layout ordered by name. In that case you also couldn´t back to the original state.

I believe is not a good idea, as will confuse a bit users, and of course if you want the original layout you can download it from the web. Using a manually modified layout to get the original is a risky operation in every situation.

Btw, did you read my pm´s about moogui malfunctioning?

Well there is another bug I noticed ohmy.gif

You can't extract an ISO to the root of any drive ie C:\ or D:\

The error message that pops up is: [DM_ENOGAMEFOLDER] Game folder not found or specified

I think you should be able to extract to root since the program creates a folder with the same name as the ISO anyway.

Hmm, is this a drawback of padding the smaller games to 4.38GB?

They take longer than usual to bootup and some of my games (Unreal Champ, Crazy Taxi 3, Blood Wake) go to my UnleashX dash where I have to click launch DVD to load the game since the bios gives up trying to boot it since it probably takes too long to find the default.xbe.

Well I just burnt Grand Theft Auto III with the layout and pad option and it runs so smooth now although sometimes for the Pause/Menu screen it says "Please wait..." and then shows 2 secs later but I believe that is normal behaviour otherwise the "please wait" screen wouldn't be there.

Another thing.

I have an Xenium ICE modchip with OS 2.0 on it and I have fast boot enabled, its the only way to go directly to the XBOX bios.

To enable this you press the power button, the eject button takes you back to te Xenium OS so I can't power on the XBOX with the eject button and insert the disc as fast so maybe thats why the padded discs boot up late although unpadded games load without problems.

Padded games run fine if the disc is already in the drive before powering up the XBOX.

Also if I make my own padded disc using a big dummy file called 0.0 then the same media boots up without any problems so the problem must reside in the way XDVDFS pads and creates an ISO.

It seems somebody needs better betatesting before releasing

You are the beta testing team  wink.gif

Another concern I had over the -pad option was that it pushes everything all the way out to the outer most of the disc, but on DVD-Video I always leave an extra 100mb of empty space out there. But of course that might be a differetnt story compared to data DVD's.

I'll try a small game with the -pad option.

There is no reason to left space on the end of the disc other than the one tha m$ itself tells: "to avoid kids to scratch the discs by taking them touching the external part of the disc" lol

Thats one of the reason xbox disc are not completly filled...funny isn´t ?

Well, I think we all are adults and know the way in which disc should be taken, so padding till the very last byte is not a problem for us. Anyway a disc never had real data til the very end, as there is always a portion of the disc used to write the lead out.

Please do, I would like to see the results since I believe padded games with XDVDFS boot slower because they have to seek to the end of the DVD for the filesystem to load the default.xbe.

I tried the same burnt discs on my friends XBOX which has a Samsung drive and the game booted at the same speed as on my xbox ie it went to the dash then loaded up.

VooD, I told you how I padded my own discs that have no boot delay problems.

QUOTE

I use DummyFile to create a pad file which will make the resulting disc add up to 4300MB. I call the file 0.0 so it is the very first "file" to be written to the disc.

I used to do this with most of my Dreamcast games to 79:59:00 MSF so padding games isn't new to me smile.gif

I use DummyFile to create a pad file which will make the resulting disc add up to 4300MB. I call the file 0.0 so it is the very first "file" to be written to the disc.

I cant believe after so much talking about layouts and optimizations you thought a file called 0.0 would be put by xdvdfs_maker at the beggining of the disc. First of all, you should have included it to the layout file, as otherwise would not be on the final iso.

And of course you have to setup that file as the first one on the layout file.

And I repeat, I have Thomson dvd reader, and an aladdin chip with xecuter2 bios and my padded games works perfect, they never go to the dash, and load as fast as the originals.

Maybe is a problem of your burner or the software you use to burn the isos.

LOL! ohmy.gif

You have completely misunderstood.

I know how to use XDVDFS tools with and without the GUI now thanks to MooBars batch files I understand fully how it works with commandline.

I was just telling you that "MY METHOD" of padding a XBOX game using a BIG FILE called 0.0 doesn't cause a SLOW BOOTUP.

The 0.0 dummy file has NOTHING to do with XDVDFS. I used SimpleX ISO v0.3 to rebuild my own padded game image which have no problems booting up.

Hope that clears things up with you wink.gif

I see you still not understanding the process.

Please don't make false assumptions.

I know exactly what the layout files are for.

Over 2 years ago I used to optimize my Dreamcast games using the equivalent of layout files known as sorttxt files, thats why I am interested in this XBOX layout project too but it has its flaws so far.

A snippet of a DC sorttxt:

data/1ST_READ.BIN 1
data/0GDTEX.PVR 2
data/SONG01.AFS 3
data/BINC1.AFS 4
data/BINC2.AFS 5
data/VOICE01.AFS 6
data/BINC3.AFS 7
data/LANDDC2.AFS 8
data/LANDDC1.AFS 9

I just don't want to use any more layout files until the slow bootup problem is fixed. I took the same problematic discs to a friends house and tried them on his new gen Philips drive equipped xbox and it also boots up slowly ie going to dash then booting straight away. The problem doesn't appear if  the DVD is already in the drive before pwering up the xbox.

I burnt the same games on 3 different types of DVD-R, Ritek, Princo, AN31 and all yield the same results :/

Oh well, I'll just wait for a status update from moobar.

New version 1.0.2b has just been sent to Vood

Fixed:
- Extract ISO bug

Added:
- Optimization tab
->Layer optimize layouts without creating batch files and doing checks (Note: the
same as in the 'Make ISO' tab but it doesnt do checks, and doesnt create a
  batch file.)
->Build a layout from a game folder on the PC
->Check layouts for format errors. (Note: this check is also automatically done
when you open a layout file in the 'Make ISO' tab)
-Status window now gives more information about what files it created, the files
its going to use, and where it put it.

Removed:
- 'Apply Layout' option, MooGUI now requires a layout file to create a batch file.
- Drag and Drop capability, this introduced an ugly bug when using network paths.
It may be added back at a later time.

In The Works:
- File association (optional)
- Move X\Demos (\Xdemos, \Demos, etc)
- Move MS XBEs (dashupdate, update, download, etc)

No wonder most people play games from the XBOX HD coz their DVD discs are soooo unoptimised tongue.gif

Negative filesize bug fixed. Will release on next go around.

Since bugs are scarce, start thinking about the UI.
-Any suggestions to improve it
-Any areas that are confusing or misleading
-Any additional checks you'd like to see
-Of course any you see thats not consistent with the rest of the program

As far as integrating xdvdfs_* into MooGUI was a thought of mine when I first started but brushed it off, I'll put it back on the table.

Vood: On the main news page of xbox-scene is a link to submit news articles. Be sure to submit your site and maybe also this thread. I dunno though, I've never submitted a news article but its worth a try.

Once I finish the 'Move X\Demos' and 'Move MS XBEs' I'll finalize MooGUI with 1.1 and write up a full description with install instructions for you to post at the layout site. Then I'll send that info to the 'Submit News' and maybe that will get their attention.

So in the mean time try all variations of all options to try and find any last bugs.

For the 1.1 non-beta release I'll package everything into one rar for easy install.

when you backup the backup DVD to harddrive you wont have that stuff.

Any other simple automatic optimizations youd like to see?
X\Demos and MS XBE's (live and dashupdate stuff) are

True... Thats why I have thrown in 3 message boxes to confirm before it will do it.

1st message box -> Are you sure you want to do this?
2nd -> Did you even check if it will work without these files?
3rd -> You're lying your pants off! But to be certain click yes one more time.

Well. I know this is a little off topic, but I got my Ritek G04's a while back. I tried a backup of Full Spectrum Warrior. The Ritek's are a ton better in the loading department. With Full Spec, the padded backup made with Xdvdfs_maker and a .lyt file, is as fast as the original, or maybe faster. Both clocked in at about 15 seconds, for the first training mission. I then tried a TDK for sake, and the load came in at 25 seconds. Media does make a difference.

However, I still am not happy. The original is pretty quiet. The Ritek is louder, and the TDK is loudest. I guess media is what causes the noise. Which media should I try next,or what should I try next. I know the Xbox drive was not meant to read burned discs, and this is probably why I get this noise. How about your guy's noise? Those pots tempt me, and a modified DVD-Rom tempts me. I want quiet.

Anyway the XDVDFS_maker worked well.Any suggestions for the Media is welcome. I almost want to tweak the pots, but I know that I'm not supposed to do that if my media does load. I don't know what else to do. I guess I am a little bit anal.

What do you think of having one of these just in case. That price is pretty cheap, usually they go for $50 up.New New MIB Thomson

If you are refering to games that already had dummy files for padding, using -pad option, will add more padding to fill an entire dvd-r

No, it won't physically add any files to the TOC, all the padding does is move the filesystem towards the outer edge of the DVD but obviously you wont get much padding from a game that is already huge in size like Crimson Skies.

Basically if you pad a 1.2GB game, when you want to rip it to the XBOX hard drive, it will only copy 1.2GB of game data, not 4.37GB.

No, no dummy files are added. It just pushes everything out. If you were to extract a padded ISO you will get the same exact files you put in.

Notes for v1.0.3b

- The 'Optimize' tab has been removed in favor of right-click
  context menus

- Context menu for 'Game Folder' now shows
  * Latest game folders
  * Build layout option

- Context menu for 'Layout File' now shows
  * Relevant layouts if a game folder is selected
  * Latest layouts if not

- Added 'Optimize and Verify' context button, (looks like a gear) it shows
  * Type 1 layer optimization
  * Type 2 layer optimization
  * Move X\Demos folder
  * Verify layout file (this verify is already done during final batch creation)
  * Verify game folder (see above)

- MooGUI now checks for X\Demos files and allows you to move them to the front.
A warning will pop-up if you havent layer optimized first (on layouts that can)

- The form no longer freezes when checking 'Verify Game Folder', maybe

- MooGUI now checks the integrity of layout files. It makes sure every folder
and file has a defined directory. (I botched one of my ISOs when this happened
to me, I forgot or somehow misplaced a directory during manual optimization
and xdvdfs_maker gives no warning to that fact)

- MooGUI currently uses no registry settings, only an INI file.
  To uninstall just delete MooGUI.

- Many changes took place in MooGUI, so your old INI file will be zapped if found.

- Other things I cant remember, just right-click every thing to find out.

Notes for v1.0.4b:

- Added simple media patcher, which is also customizable from the INI file.
You can access this from the Game Folder context menu after selecting
a game folder. A dialog will pop open showing any XBEs that are located
in the root folder and 2 folders deep.
The little icon to the left of the dialog will let you switch between
'Patch' and 'Restore', and also view the actual patches themselves.
This dialog also supports inverted colors.

  * Option Icon Context Menu

** Patch - Shows a listing of all XBEs within 2 folders deep. Check any
or all XBEs to be patched. An original will be created if the file
      can be patched (filename.xbe_orig)

** Restore - Shows a listing of all XBEs that are filename.xbe_orig and
allows you to restore them back to filename.xbe, The scan depth of
this option is the same as the Patch option (2 default)

** View Patches - Outputs to the log window all patches that it tries.
Currently there is 2 patches, Media Check Short & Long.

** Edit Patches - This option is disabled, if you want to add a patch
for some reason, like the FATX check (not needed for DVD-backups)
you can, just edit the INI file.

Currently the patch system only finds and replaces the first occurrence
only. This is all that is needed for the Media Check for old bioses.
Though personally Ive never had to patch a media check but Ive included
the option for those of you that need to.

If you want to edit the INI file to add patches, here is the format.

#=PATCHNAME|FINDHEX|REPLACEHEX

Currently in the INI file you will see (after running v1.0.4b):

[PATCHER]
1=Media Patch Long|744BE8CAFDFFFF85C07D0633C05050EB44F605|744BE8CAFDFFFF85C0EB0633C05050EB44F605
2=Media Patch Short|E8CAFDFFFF85C07D|E8CAFDFFFF85C0EB

So to add on you would just do

3=My Jenny Patch|8675309EE9|4A454E4E59

Of course this is just an example, If you dont understand it then you
probably shouldnt be playing with it.
Users of DVD2XBOX will see some familiarity.

In the INI file you will also find

PatchScanDepth=2

This is the scan depth in folders it will search for XBEs, 2 is usually
enough. For instance, most demos are housed in \Xdemos\GameName\game.xbe
If you want to catch them all for some paranoid reason then change it to
  something like 20.

NOTE: CURRENTLY ALL PATCHES WILL BE RUN ON EVERY FILE SELECTED.
Meaning, you cannot select just a certain patch to be applied.
In a future release I'll be planning on supporting ACL files.

CloneXB and MooGUI has different strengths. CloneXB has the all-in-one FTP solution to ISO while MooGUI will end up being rather sort of like an layout editor for those in the know. This was why MooGUI was never to have FTP abilities as CloneXB was going to have that. Two different programs for two different needs.

For what I thought about ACL integration was for file optimization and not deleteion. ACL files mostly list files that can be removed safely to get the disc size down. But in the case of of DVD backups, we dont need to worry about space, long file names, or FATX patching.

The only commands I was going to support was the RM (Remove Dir) and the EP (Exclude Path) BUT NOT as deleting (as the commands suggest) but rather as an "optimization" to move those files to the front or beginning of the disc layout. Currently I dont plan to have MooGUI "delete" any layout files automatically, Id like not to be on the receiving end of hate emails for layouts that dont work because they didnt do their homework to check if it really worked or not from HDD or DVDRW.

MooGUI will have a editor, but trying to come up with a more novel and easier way to edit than Windows Notepad is rather difficult, plus the basis of the editor is that it has to support such games as Kotor (15,000+ files) and Furious Karting (25,000+ files) without bogging down the system.

5b is going better than I thought, Ive decided to add the ACL file support (which was the easy part), but at the same time it spit out a bastard of a child, 'the editor'.

The editor works quite nice, it has the standard bells and whistles, multiselect drag-n-drop reordering, cut, insert, delete, move first/last, move up, move down. At the moment im working on the search function, and the split window function.

The major re-write im going through at the moment is reworking the code so the user doesnt have to save the layout everytime they make a change. Rather my vision is to have it work like a real editor. Edit, edit, and more edits then save when you want to.

Its coming together nicely, will release when the re-write of the saving function is finished and I'll save the split window, search functions for another day.

HI,
I was recently using XDVDFS 2.01b and had an issue with creating ISO's with the -pad option.  Every immage I tried to create with that enabled would throw an error in NERO that the ISO had the wrong table size based on it's content, or something like that. If I opened the ISO in any of the XBFS ISO viewers there were no files contained in the immage.  It was like a big 4.5 gig dummy file.  Not using the -pad option resulted in the immages being fine and buning properly.   The titles I was backing up were Ghost Recon  ( Roughly 700mb )  and Sudeki ( Roughly 3.7 Gig )  Here are the details of my system. XP Pro, 1 Gig of Ram, Original files on a NTFS drive and creating the ISO to another NTFS drive.

Hope this helps.  Keep up the awesome work. I love this tool. It's nice not having to wait for ever for a backup to load. Or to have to hear the drive making a horrible noise as it tries to jump from one edge of the disk to another becasue the files are out of order.

CloneXB really is going to have a bad time triying to keep its features at the same level than MooGUI lol. good job.

To Heykrop:

First notice of that, I have several patched disc and many other people also have them, and we never had that kind of problems. Maybe is a bug relaed to something strange in Ghost Recon and Sudeki structures...but I believe its pretty hard you have found the same bug in the only games you have tryed to optimize.

Did you tryed any other game?, I havent those games so I cant confirm your problems, everything I can say at the moment is I never had similar problems with raw dumps.

Were you using XBDVDFS_Maker or did you used throught MooGUI?

I tried MooGUI at first and thinking that it may be the casue of the problem I had reverted back to using the command line. I had done other discs using XBDVDFS_Maker but they were all in the 4.5 + gig range and did not need -pad option. My process was.  Use layout dumper on xbox. FTP originals files to PC. Use XBDVDFS_Maker with layout to create ISO with no changes to the layout. Using -pad would create a full  4.5Gig ISO but NERO would then complain that there was a problem with it.  not using the -pad option made an ISO equivalent to the size of the originals content and NERO reproted no problems.  The way the error in NERO was worded it also offered to try and correct the problem as an option. I had not tried this though.  I am wondering if there may me something about the overall size of the content of the two discs that had a problem when XBDVDFS_Maker was making the ISO a multiple of 32. Not sure just a guess.

Notes:

- Added ACL file compatibilty. MooGUI now supports EP (Exclude file\path) commands
as 'Move First File Optmization' rather than the literal command to eclude them.
To load an ACL file be sure load the game folder first so MooGUI can pull the
Title ID of the game to make it easier for you to find, since naming of ACL files
are done by Title ID. MooGUI does not support any other ACL commands, only
  EP, all others are ignored.

Once loaded, MooGUI will present you with the "ACL Editor" from which you can
rearrange the ACL files, or if you want to remove something (you dont want it
to move to the top). To put it in simplest terms, MooGUI will move only the files
that are in the editor when you click OK. If you delete a file in the ACL editor
it wont move it. Simple eh?

- Added "Layout Editor", with basic editting commands, cut, insert, delete,
drag-n-drop reordering. It is from here if you delete a file it will be removed
from the layout when you click OK. At this time the layout editor doesnt have an
'add file' capability (coming soon). MooGUI wont let you save over the layout file
you originally openned. If you open a layout and make changes it will ask you once
during this session to save the changes to another file, from this point on any
changes will be saved to the new file you selected, this behavior is different
from previous versions where it would always ask to save to a new file.

- Added, Various pop up messages and warnings about optimization and editting.
You will be able to suppress these messages in a future version.

- Added more context menus, right click to find them.

- One thing to note, MooGUI makes use of previous folder settings to find the right
file for you when openning files. To best take advantage of this is to always
use the same folder for the specified content, for example:
    C:\Xbox\Game Folders
    C:\Xbox\Layout Files
    C:\Xbox\ACL Files
    C:\Xbox\ISO Files

- When first running MooGUI v1.0.5b your old INI file will be zapped.

But then if you shove an optimized KotOR down their throats then they'll see the light. Ive played both an optimized and un-optimzed KotOR, the un-optimized KotOR runs like rubbish from DVD, the optimized version runs smooth.

QUOTE (ncasebee @ Aug 17 2004, 02:00 AM)
Hey Vood and CloneXb, where can I find the source for Xdvdfs_Tools. The new updated version made by Clonexb, and debugged by you? I wanted to take a look at some things.

Oh, and to have the quiestest and fastest loading backup, what should I burn at? My burner is down below.

The lastest source public avaible are the ones from the initial XBDVDFS Tools 2.0... so they don´t include the changes I made to fix the "last file in layer 1" bug, anyway, I think I pasted the changes I did in this forum.

I guess CloneXB will make a new "official fixed" version and will release the new sources soon.

Meanwhile, you can find the initial 2.0 release at #xbins

About how to have the most quiet backups, I think I told you several times:

1.- Apply the original layout (and/or correct its mistakes i.e. panzeer dragon doesnt have any optimization at all)
2.- Pad the image
3.- Use Verbatim DVD-RW (I have an old 1x disc which is the nearest thing to a pressed disc I´ve ever seen)

And if that isnt enought for you..just copy the game to your hard disk  laugh.gif  and you´ll get a veeeeeeeeeeeeeery quiet backup  tongue.gif

Regards.

I wish that there can be more new layouts soon..

I will be posting my version of manually optimised Topspin soon..

Do give comments..

When I play, there are still some parts when "showing attitude", it will slowdown a bit.

CODE
[INFO]
ScriptVersion=1.0
ScriptName=Move XDemos Folder
Message=This script will move the XDemos or Demos|folder to the beginning of the layout.

[REMOVE]

[MOVEFIRST]
1=D,\XDemos
2=D,\demos

You will be able to preview and edit the 'Remove' and 'MoveFirst' commands in the new editor.

- Minor changes include toning down the output window.

The only bad part about the editor is that now it uses an external MS control that may or may not already be installed on the target system so this will bumb up the download size if the user needs this file (only 1 external file). I always hated coding using those files, but its the only easy way to make it look and feel pretty.

After v1.0.6b I'll push for a final v1.1 release since no new bugs are coming in.

CloneXB.

Making life easier to users tongue.gif, so they dont need to look for the original xdvdfs package smile.gif

I mean, what would be ideal is combining moogui and xbdvdfs_maker/extract but keeping also the standart command line functions, so you can use the soft as command line and also as a graphic application.

EDITOR BEHAVIOR:

When in REMOVE mode:
- Adding any folder to the editor will automatically insert all sub files and folders.
- Deleting any file in the editor will automatically remove its parent folder from the editor.
- You cannot add the root folder "\" to the editor.
- You cannot add "\default.xbe" to the editor.
- 'Layout Files' view is not available.

When in LAYOUT EDITOR mode:
- Deleting a folder will automatically delete all its sub files and folders.
- Adding a file will automatically add its parent folder if its not in the list.

When in MOVE FIRST mode:
- No restrictions since files added to this list will just be moved to the beginning of the disc.

When switching from MOVE FIRST to REMOVE mode:
- If a folder exists in the editor all its sub files and folder will be added also.

The above behavior may sound strange or intrusive at first but without this behavior layout files can easily be broken. Play with the editor with small layouts so you can get the feel for it and its strange behavior.

Try all 3 different modes to see the behavior in action so you know what your getting into when doing the real thing.

Heres some simple rules:

1. In REMOVE mode, if you are getting rid of a folder then you must get rid of all sub files.
2. In REMOVE mode, if you are keeping some files you must keep the parent folder.
3. In LAYOUT editor mode, if you delete a folder then you must also delete all sub files
4. In LAYOUT editor mode, if you keep a file then you must keep its parent folder.

MooGUI takes care of these 4 major rules and many other little ones, but these are the ones you will notice very quickly.

I think I have worked in all the rules to keep a valid layout. You'll know right away when you save and if MooGUI reports an error in the layout (you shouldnt though). MooGUI does extensive checks on the layout when loading. The only check MooGUI currently doesnt do is duplicate filenames, but the editor wouldnt allow that anyways. What Id like to know is if anyone can break the editor, Ive come at it from all angles and couldnt break it yet, but im sure someone will find a way. Just save the layout and you'll know when MooGUI reloads it.

Information on the Custom Scripts are in the readme, but essentially now you can create REMOVE and MOVE FIRST scripts, as before with the ACL support it was MOVE FIRST only, you can now convert an ACL from MOVE FIRST to REMOVE within the editor. Joy!

moobar

CODE
A    <-Folder you want to drag-n-drop
B   <- the sub files in this folder
 C        in alphabetical order
 D
 E

But the original layout is:
CODE
 E
 D
A
 B
 C

You drop A into the list and it will be inserted like the original layout. Lets say you drop folder A into line # 20, the end result will then be
CODE
18 ...
19 ...
20   E
21   D
22  A
23   B
24   C
25 ...
26 ...

The focus behind this method is trying to keep the files as close as to the original layout.

Remember, you can drag-n-drop from both the tree view (Layout Explorer) and the list view (Layout Files). The tree view gives you access to whole folders at a time, while the list view lets you access by files at a time. Honestly I use the list view more than the tree view, the list view gives me greater control of what is inserted and what is not, But I use the tree view to find the file I want in the list view (right click a tree view and select 'Find In Layout', it will take you to that file in the list view.)

Comments and suggestions welcome. Although the basic design of the editor is pretty much set, Id be looking for anything else that you think might make editting easier or quicker. For the moment Im working on other things in MooGUI.

- Fixed minor editor mode display bug. This bug only affects the log window.

When editting a layout in either REMOVE or MOVE FIRST mode and you save the layout, the log window would incorrectly show the opposite mode but when in fact it was the intended mode that was processed.

For example, If I was in REMOVE mode and selected 'Save Layout' the following would be displayed:

Creating OPTIMIZED LAYOUT FILE...
Creating optimized layout file from:
> I:\Layout Files\Ghost Recon CUSTOM.lyt
Apply MOVE FIRST optimization selected
Saving optimized layout file to:
> I:\Layout Files\Ghost Recon CUSTOM OPT.lyt
DONE

But should read:

Creating OPTIMIZED LAYOUT FILE...
Creating optimized layout file from:
> I:\Layout Files\Ghost Recon CUSTOM.lyt
Apply REMOVE optimization selected
Saving optimized layout file to:
> I:\Layout Files\Ghost Recon CUSTOM OPT.lyt
DONE

P.S. Watch out for v1.0.7b, coming soon, nothing major, just aesthetics, but for the better.

PSS, we are close to a v1.1 release so get any new requests in. After v1.1 I wont be working on it much or adding features like crazy.

v1.0.7b looks like the RC for v1.1

v1.0.7b adds
- Aesthically pleasing log window (icons and such)
- Option to have a ledger style Editor and Log window. (even easier on the eyes)
- MRU for Layout Files (in addition to matching layouts and newest modified layouts)

So the only new "feature" is the MRU list, so get those requests in.

If you setup DVD2XBOX correctly with SMB you can skip the DVD2XBOX->XBOX HD->FTP'D TO PC process and just send the files right from DVD2XBOX to your PC. That feature of DVD2XBOX works good, but I have yet to compare transfer speeds between FTP'ing and SMB'ing.

On another note, MooGUI v1.0.7b is now released

QUOTE
Notes:

- Added Ledger style editor and log lists

- Added MRU list for layout files in addition to latest modified layouts. The MRU list will only show if you havent selected a game folder or if you have selected a game folder and MooGUI cannot find any matching layouts.

- Added MSCOMCTL.OCX distribution file. MooGUI 1.06 and above requires MSCOMCTL.OCX version 6.1.97.82 or higher. If MooGUI crashes while loading or using the editor please install this file. Install instructions are included in the included MSCOMCTL folder. Upon a release of v1.1 a full setup will be included, but you beta testers get to do it the hard way, but its simple really, just right-click and select install, easy huh?

- Fixed a few internal bugs.

- When first running MooGUI v1.0.7b your old INI file will be zapped.

Oops, almost forgot. The log window is now context sensitive, right-click on any folder, layout file, acl file, script file to 'browse' to its folder or 'open' it in notepad.

The log window now only shows file names, as before it showed the entire filename. Just hover over the file for the full filename in a tooltip.

Oops, one more thing, When extracting an ISO MooGUI will append a (#) to the extract game folder if the created one already exists. pre v1.0.7b MooGUI would warn you that you were about to overwrite any existing files. This change was because of my hate for message boxes. You'll notice now only a few messages boxes popup only when absolutely needed.

DOWN WITH POPUP MESSAGE BOXES!!!

So will this work? DVD2XBOX->XBOX HD->FTP'D TO PC->MooGUI+XDVDFS Tools+layout->ISO->DVD

You also can use these tools if you dont own the original game anymore, but just a copy of the files on dvd or hd, by downloading its layout file from http://xboxlyt.freeunixhost.com/.

Btw, why so many people use dvd2xbox?, I just use Avalaunch´s or Unleashx´s ftp and transfer the files on the fly from a dvd or the hd without any problem.

MooGUI v1.0.7b Batch File Creator

I then created the ISO and now when I open it in Nero v6.0.0.19 i get the following message.   " The ehtered block size does not correspond to the image length. The block size may be wrong. Do you want to correct or ignore the problem?"

If I choose ignore I end up burning a non working disc.  If I choose to correct I am presents with several choices and have not attempted to do this yet as none else seems to be having an issue.  Anyone have an idea?

Never Mind.  I figured out what the problem was.  The volume that I was saving the ISO to was formatted as NTFS a while back but it was a FAT 32 drive that I had converted to NTFS.  Looks as though there must have been an issue with the conversion because it would not properly accept a file over 4 Gig.  The reason the ISO's were failing with padding was because they were greater than 4 Gig and being truncated in some way.  I've redone the drive and it is now a true NTFS partition.  I recreated the ISO and it works fine.

Thanks

Heh, good catch on the FAT32 to NTFS conversion thing, I would have never guessed that to be a problem. But then again when I upped to 2000 and XP way back when I did a clean install rather than an upgrade.

That error and solution probably should be added to the 'Official FAQ' or 'Trouble Shooting Guide' for xdvdfs_maker.

There is no patching with MooGUI or just plain xdvdfs tools, you have to patch with your favorite patching software in case you need it. Anyway, I belive patching is not necessary in most cases at all.

Agreed. I've never patched anything.  I've always used an X2 bios and never needed to patch the .xbe.

Actually mine was a clean XP Pro install as well. It was just a 20 gig Firewire drive that had been FAT32 that I used the  comand prompt option of  "convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs" on after the install.  It would appear that the conversion from FAT32 to NTFS ran into a problem somewhere along the way and resulted in the drive being labled as NTFS when it was still only FAT32.  This time around I wiped the drive and did a real format on it using NTFS as the formatting option.  Now it works fine.

It takes place when you ask it to, in MooGUI that is, Im assuming your talking about media patching. But it is true with most newer bioses that you dont need patching. I guess if you have a flashed tsop and are too lazy to upgrade or something.

MooGUI v1.04b and above provides patching for the long and short media patching.
 1. Select your game folder
 2. Right-click the game folder icon.
 3. Select "Patch XBEs..."
The rest should be a cake walk.

Glad to see more people using these tools biggrin.gif

nope.  not lazy, just new.  i'm running a xenium ice with x2 4983.  so i guess i dont need to patch, but as long as it doesnt do anything else, i might as well.  i was just asking because i was going to try this method of back up also.  i'm just trying several tuts to do it  to see which one i like to use or works best for me.  thanks for the info.

*edit* another question.  i'm loading everything to try now.  i see it uses dvd decryptor.  do i need configure a path to dvd decrytor for it to work?

and just so i understand how this all works: (i'm the gunea pig to learn this to help my buddy out when he moves back east)

you use layout dumper to create the layout.

then you ftp the layout file and the game files to the pc.

patch them if needed/desired using program of choice.

using moogui, it then organizes (or optimizes) the files according to the layout file, then creates the iso, then activates dvd decrytor to burn the iso.

*edit*  just tried it all.  dont know what i'm missing.  i selected the file where the games rare.  selected the layout file.  selected where to save teh iso to.  pad iso and batch file are checked off.  clicked on the file to iso button at bottom, seemed like nothing happened.  said something happened in log.  but i cant find an iso.  i must not be understanding something.  any help?

Create Batch File Only - This option tells MooGUI not to run the batch file it
makes when it is done processing everything. If unchecked, MooGUI will launch
the batch file and xdvdfs_maker will start creating the ISO. Remember that
MooGUI is just a GUI for xdvdfs_maker, of which does all the hard work.

CloneXB will do something similar (will copy a entire disc aplyig the layout file without user intervention).
But keep in mind, what you want to do makes necessary to have some kind of server in the pc.

i'm having problems with this method.  i have used the qwix method, and as you guys have stated, although the back ups work, they are noisy, and sometimes slow.

now, i'll say i'm using the same dvd burner, same iso burning software (dvd decryptor), and same brand discs for both methods of back up.

i'm using the latest moogui version.

ran it 2 different ways.  with both the pad and batch boxes checked, then created the iso by double clicking the batch.  and the second by leaving the batch box unchecked.  both times burnt to disc.  both times xbox/avalauch sees the disc, but doesnt launch.  one time it saw the name and said it was gonna load the game, but never did.  i've already wasted 4 dvds (tried 2 different games, both ways.)  i figure one of 2 things.  either i've screwed up a configuration somewhere, or perhaps different iso apps work differently on the same media.  as in the qwix iso works on my disc, the xdvdsfs iso does not.

suggestions?

mine worked great! i love the new tools.  I'd say that FSW loaded at least 7 sec. faster.

i dont have everythign infront of me but ill try and help.

1  first off i loaded the layout dumper.xbe on the xbox.
2  Then i put in the original disc. dumped the layout file to the xbox
3  ftp the layout from the xbox / or get it from their website.
4. ftped all the files from the original disc (D:) to the PC's hard drive.
5. started up moogui
6. selected folder where all the game files are
7. selected layout.
8. made iso without padded to edges(i know the other is supposed to be better)
9. launch .bat file that moo made.
10 burned iso using NERO

worked perfectly

Glad your getting the hang of it. The ISOs should be identical whether MooGUI runs the batch (batch option unchecked) or if you run the batch (batch option checked, you double click the batch file to start).

You say the DVD works great when used with Quix. Now heres the catch. The only difference between a Quix ISO and XDVDFS ISO is the padding option (and of course the optimized file structure, but lets leave that out for now)

So now if the media you are using has a bad outer edge of the disc then padding may pose a problem. Now Im only speculating here. Quix ISO should always work because it would never push the data to the outside edge of a DVD disc. Ive seen this behavior before in DVD movies, where the last final few minutes of a DVD movie would play bad or not at all. I then switched to better media and the problem went away. Remember that this is speculation only.

If you feel like wasting another disc to test the fact, then try the XDVDFS ISO without padding (MooGUI with padding unchecked) and see if that performs the same as your Quix ISO.

Here I have never had a problem with padding games, the media I use is RICHOJPN DVD-R or TT01 DVD-R or TY01 DVD-R.

A temporary workaround, which is right up MooGUI's layout editor, is to create a 100mb dummy file in the root folder and place it at the end of the layout, then of course use the padding option. The dummy file would never be accessed so who cares if it cant be read or not on bad media.

1. Find the program called dummyfile.exe <- this program creates a dummy file in any size you want in MB's. The name of the file it creates is called 'dummy.bin'

2. Place 'dummy.bin' into the root folder of the game folder (same place as 'default.xbe')

3. Open up moogui

4. Select the game folder (important)

5. Select the layout file

6. click the gear looking icon and then click "Layout Editor"

7. Scroll in the layout editor to the very end of the layout.

8. Drag-n-drop the 'dummy.bin' from windows explorer to the layout editor.

9. Make sure 'dummy.bin' is the last file in the layout. If not, just right click it and select 'Move Last'

10. Click File>Save Layout

Thats it, do the rest like you normally would. Be sure to check the padding option.

Let me know how it works out.

i uploaded some layout yesterday on your web site. after i uploaded them i noticed all your other files are in .rar. I didnt have time to do that. does that matter?

dbldown768> Thanks for the nice gesture, but the Xbox-layout website belongs to and is operated and maintained by Vood. He was the one that got the ball rolling for me. He is nice enough to host MooGUI for me since I have no cyberhome.

But anyways, as far as the rar files go, I'll think that vood will repack them up to rar's and repost them for you. We're all happy we can get new layouts.

mrjkwik> Heh, your right about that  wink.gif  but your the one whos buring 40 cent coasters to test it out biggrin.gif

On another note, MooGUI v1.1.0 is complete, whew. All the documentation is done about 20 pages worth, dang that was a b!tch.

The newest and final feature added is a Wizard mode to walk you through making an optimized ISO. The wizard mode only supports type 1 and 2 layer optimizations, no scripts, no acls, no editing. Just enough to get you started on your first ISO, which is perfect for most users, even me.

I need to write up the final release notes before its released and I'll cut it loose.

moobar, it worked out great.  used a 100mb buffer as you suggested.  i think everytime i do a backup, i'll drop it by 10 to find the defective space on the discs.  but other than that, no problem at all.

and just so i understand the layout files better, anything at the END of a layout layer, is placed toward the OUTSIDE of the disc?

and could you clarify a little bit about optomizing with dual layers?  i didnt understand which layer was supposed to be at the top of the page, and which at the bottom.  i saw the commands to move them, just didnt know the difference of which was were.  its probably in my face, so i'll read again.  you tend to break things down pretty well.  looking towards the final release.

I'd tried to optimise fifa2005 for backup..
dvd2xbox.
ftp to PC hdd.
moobar with original lyt file. [ 4.2 gig ]
burnt with dvddecrypter

however, I ran the backup and the disc ran very very noisily. [ initial loading to 1st menu screen ]

Did a simple craxtion iso creation .. [ 2.2 gig ]

and the backup ran better than with the lyt optimised version. [ files on inner tracks of DVD+R ]

Any idea why?

Sorry, but DL images arent yet implemented in XBDVDFS tools. But they will in a near future, as is a very easy feature to add. Try asking CloneXB for DL support tongue.gif and maybe you could be our DL beta tester tongue.gif lol

The only dashboard that supports 'Boost Mode' in the 'Download' direction is Avalaunch, Ive tested it with 0.48.64 and 0.49.10 so far.

In Xbox Explorer on the right window (this file/folder window) just select a single folder to download and click download. The 'Download' button will only be enabled if you are using UnleashX or Avalaunch. BUT boost mode will only work with Avalaunch. UnleashX does not support boost mode download.

Take a look at the lower right corner of the 'Xbox Explorer' it should say what dashboard your connected to.

-----------Edited to say

MooGUI can only download 1 folder at a time. So you could if you wanted to download your entire Game folder then select 'F:\Games' to download, though this way will download ALL the folders in F:\Games.

Odd indeed. Try launching up your favorite FTP client and connecting to the dashboard and issue a FTP command 'SYST' and let me know what it returns.

for Avalaunch it expects '215 UNIX emulation by Avalaunch 0.47.5'
for UnleashX it expects '215 UNIX emulated by UnleashX 0.36.0620A'

Maybe you changed it somehow or then again it could be the first publicly reported bug in MooGUI. biggrin.gif

In anycase if I need to I'll just relax the code a little to search for 'Avalaunch' in the response.

biggrin.gif  in fact, i've already created two optimized multi-game discs using it and it really can't be easier.  the way you implemented the new features is great.

would it be possible for you to integrate an ftp client into moogui that would allow boost mode while uploading?  extraction of ISOs directly to the xbox and a title manager like qwix's would be great as well (and would permanently put qwix away for me).

Hmm that is odd indeed, maybe my 0.48.64 is outdated somehow. I guess I'll relax the SYST code on the next go around.

As for upload I thought about it but what turned me off was the filename restrictions on the Xbox HD. I'd have to do some more research on the restrictions before I could do anything else. Upload from a PC folder should be no problem, upload from an ISO is another matter as MooGUI does not touch ISOs at all, XDVDFS Tools does all the work. But I'll look into it.

CODE

 UltraEdit
 G:\Program Files\UltraEdit\uedit32.exe
 "%1"

'displayname' and 'path' are self explanatory, as for 'params' here are the special tags:
%% = insert a %
%1 = insert the long filename
%2 = insert the short filename
Depending on the editor that your using you may need to enclose the filename within quotes as shown above. If your editor doesnt support long filenames then use the %2 tag. You can of course enter any other command line parameters that your editor accepts, for example, in UltraEdit to open the file in read-only mode then 'params' would be:
CODE
/r "%1"

Note: Manual editing of the XML config file should be done while MooGUI is NOT running.

I dunno if this is the right thread for this, but I think there's a bug in the Xbox layout extractor.  I've used it successfully on my xbox for the 5 original discs I have and they all extracted fine. ie Halo 2, Mechassault, fable.  One game is however giving me fits and it's DOA beach volleyball.  I think there's a bug in the layout extractor that when it's faced with a disc with a very long game name it doesn't truncate the name of the file so the xbox doesn't write it.  The other games when extracting always give the message "File written C:\****.lyt".  When I try to rip the layout for DOA volley ball the msg is "File written D:\Deadoraliveextremebeach volleyball.lyt" and nothing gets written!  I have it installed in my E:\apps\layout folder and I tried using evo-x and avalaunch with no avail.  Like I said above the layout extractor works with all my other games except this one.  Anyone else have this problem.  Thanks in advance.

Most of my games had the layout files on the web site. I didnt really want to learn another program so I didnt want to use the layoutbuilder, then I ended up having to cause a few of my games dont have layout files on that site. BUT, I got like 5 of the games layout files no problem then I got to red faction 2. Here is what I got:

I hit A controller starts rumbelling as usual then in the info box it says:

Saved 'D:\Red Faction II_Ntsc.lyt'

I was like what the crap, cause it cant save to a dvd (duh)

So i figured maybe it saved it in the same folder and is just talking jiberish... but nope.... no layout file...

anyone else run into this problem. Is the layoutdumper.xbe the only way to get the layout file (other than downloading one of course)

smile.gif it seems this is now happening with other games, i have recreated it with kingdoms under fire and burnout 3.

i dont know if there are other unknown evil forces at work here  dry.gif  or if this is a result of the padding option as i suspect, anyway i just thought i would let you guys know my experience, im using the tools without the padding option as a precaution for now, as i dont know if the other backups that do work with the padding option at first will work the later on in the games i get.

I dont think it had to do with the padding option but I could be wrong.... something about fable is strange. I thought I was burnbing coasters just like you I burned about 20 copies of that game and they all gave me that message at the same screen. I accidently figured something out. If you let ALL of the opening cinemas run before pressing start the disc would work for me. I didnt press start untill it got to the press start screen after playing all the cinemas. I think this is due to some pre caching the game was doing to my hard drive because my X3 chip hd led was flashing during almost all of the opening cinemas.

i quickly read through the 16 pages and did a search. i don't think i missed anything but if i did, sorry. i'm pretty sure i found a bug in layout dumper, but i'll be surprised if i'm the first one to have found it.

I used the layout dumper to get lyt files for a couple of my games, worked just fine. when i tried to dump prince of persia, it seemed to work at first, but after it "finished" the controller wouldn't stop vibrating until i exited the program. the lyt file was also not created. i counted the characters in the filename that would have been created as 43, a mere 1 character too long. is this a known bug?

Ok guys its about time I put this to bed.

Most of the problems you all seem to be experiencing have been fixed in both the LayoutDumper.xbe and also xdvdfs_maker but i've been sitting on the new release for quite some time. With regards to padding a new option was added so that a small buffer is used near the outside edge of the disc when padding to avoid writing on imperfect areas of the disc.

Anyway Vood told me some of you were having problems so I thought I had better post. I'm not going to sit on the release any longer and I PROMISE to release this by no later than next wednesday but hopefully before.

Happy Dumping.

would it make more sense for moogui to place unregistered files at the top of a layout so that the layout-optimized games will be closer to the outer edge?

I don't know if it is coincidence or not, but every decent size multi-game backup I made (2 gigs and up) and created with quix had a hard time loading in the xbox on first try. I would have to eject and reload to get it to boot. (my theory - quix builds the iso by alphabetical order, therefore default.xbe ends up being one of the first files on the iso (ends up burned on inner disc))

Same backup sizes, using moogui, and putting the mxm files at the end and default.xbe at the very end, and don't have the boot problem anymore. (default.xbe is on outer circle)

I'd build a dummy file for both to bring file size up to 4.2 gb, and name the dummy file 1.bin so it would be first, because using the pad option would produce coasters (at least with older release, haven't tried the pad with the newest release yet)

i went back to moogui 1.20 to try this also the same thing happened  uhh.gif

I believe that means there are files listed on the layout that doesnt appears in your kotor folder. So either the kotor´s layot was edited (maybe to remove update.xbe and that kind of things) or you are using differents versions (maybe you are trying to use kotor´s ntsc layout with kotor´s pal files).

Kotor is one of the most tested games with layout files technology, and many people has reported it works flawless, so check back those points.

this is a question for mooBar I think.

I have never used mooGUI but I would gues that maybe you are giving mooGUI the layout file but then pointing it to a directory where those file should exist but dont. It sounds like you are pointing to the wrong directory completely as there are over 9,000 files it cant find.

Nope, just tested that theory and as expected there are only about a hundred or so common files between the 2.

I'll look into it further. Maybe something to do with the name of the folder the files are in or the total length of it.

This is the most important report. This says that all the files in the layout exists on your PC HDD. Its probably a bug in the 'Verify Game Folder' routine.

Could you tell me the entire path of where the game files reside on your PC. For example C:\Game Folders\Star Wars KotOR\

This might be the culprit, but no fault of your own. I guess windows renames all capital letter files to lower case when it copies or moves files within its own file system. But no worries as noted above I'll adjust for that.

No, those fields are not used by the latest XDVDFS Tools. They can be zero (I forget if they can be blank)

ie:

vood

let me clearer: the shocking part was due to a backup i made of the original i made 2 weeks ago using qwix. after i ran the extractor program it gave me a layout on the backup that was in perfect alphabeticla order  as i expected but what was worse was that the directories came first. i think it is random or luck as to whether the files and directories will be spread out or totally segragated as in this case.

i just came back from lunch where i tested the MOH rising sun disk i burned earlier. it didn't work. i dumped the files to my hard drive and found that the optimized file had left off the very last file to be put on the cd. after manually copying it to my hard drive i found that the game worked. so i am now going to reburn and add that last file to the layout file.

in the process of testing i noticed that the qwix version of MOH rising sun didnt work very well; i am for the moment blaming it on the poor layout.

Sactown-Sav can you email me your .lyt that came straight from the XBOX I would like to see it, maybe I need to fix a bug in XDVDFS_Tools.

tongue.gif ) to integrate xbox dumper in its dashboard, so
anybody wanting to make an almost 1:1 backup from an original game would just have to load MooGUI (or future CloneXB) on the PC, boot UnleashX, insert the original disc, and then MooGUI (or future CloneXB) via something like "site layoutdump" raw ftp command would get that disc´s layouts and then would start transfering disc´s files via standart ftp. Finally it would build an optimized iso ready to burn. Also if the layout isnt yet in our repository, it would automatically upload to it. And all this in a single step, without user intervention on the xbox´s nor resetting etc...

Note sure Fable, I will have to look into it more, I need to be able to reproduce it.

As for DVD9 support...... I am already working on it. The hardest part is actually getting the burning software to agree to put the Layer break flag as per the original.

i am having trouble with Pirates of Craibbean and also Riddick. Both burn ok but aren;t recoginized by xbox in either dvd2xbox or by evox. normally evox will recognize the disk in the tray as a "GAME"; with riddick and pirates it says "UNKNOWN". this is sporadic; i have gotten both games to boot but not reliably.

anybody with tips/help plz post. thanks.

been wondering about this, on the 2nd layer of a game, the files are sequenced so the biggest files would be read last

here's an example from chaos theory
F,\Default\Sounds\esp\SCX_Voice_05Displace.LS2,18917376,2985859 (22 MB)
F,\Default\Sounds\esp\SCX_Barks_Usa.LS2,25681920,2995096 (32 MB)
F,\Default\Sounds\esp\SCX_Barks_Japan.LS2,29208576,3007636 (35 MB)
F,\Default\Sounds\esp\SCX_Barks_Korean.LS2,29962240,3027316 (37 MB)
F,\Default\Sounds\esp\SCX_Barks_Spanish.LS2,32333824,3041946 (43 MB)
D,\Default\Sounds\esp,0,3057734

should i invert this whole layer around so the files are ordered small to bigger instead of bigger to small

I think is just a casual issue, as those files are differents language versions of the same file. Maybe splinter cell is one of those game which wasnt optimied at all by its developers.

ok bad example, but it had nothing to do with language
those are infact level files anyway

but yeah i think they went the lazy way
Title: Xdvdfstools V2.0 Support Topic
Post by: patto on April 07, 2005, 12:24:00 AM
ok really bad example i didn't even notice the esp, i'm just asking
is it better if the files are ordered so small files come first, or if big files come first

and would having the D,\Default\Sounds\esp,0,3057734 last so when the dvdrom moves the laser towards the beginning of the disc it'd come across the directory first then move further back to the actual file so the laser is is doing one continuous move instead of moving back then forwards

here's another idea, ignore the actual filenames

so you've got
D,\Media,0,1898452
F,\Media\Sound.xsb,684,1898453
F,\Media\Wave.xwb,190012,1898454
F,\Media\dlres.xpr,280576,1898547
F,\Media\dlcustom.xpr,1574912,1898684
F,\Media\ArialUni.Ttf,23274572,1899453

would it be any good to have:
F,\Media\Sound.xsb,684,1898453
F,\Media\Wave.xwb,190012,1898454
F,\Media\dlres.xpr,280576,1898547
D,\Media,0,1898452
F,\Media\dlcustom.xpr,1574912,1898684
F,\Media\ArialUni.Ttf,23274572,1899453

since after the drive reads the directory (D,\Media) it is either going to move forwards or backwards instead of just forwards. So the last file F,\Media\ArialUni.Ttf should take as long as the first file thus speeding up the whole thing, it'd be effective if there was a lot of files in the directory
This probably isn't worth it and stupid

Hi, I'm really new to all of this 'layouts' stuff (new to the entire xbox scene, actually) but I've downloaded Jade Empire Limited Edition a while ago (DVD9 version, not DVD5). It didn't run too well (not at all, it simply crashed) and people from the ** Do not link to Torrents Sites on xs. ** forums said that I should use MooGUI on it with a layout file. I've downloaded a layout file, downloaded MooGUI, and at least understand how to use it. Since the wizard seemed like the easiest option I've used it, and it noted how it was a DVD9 game. Everythings fine until it starts the command prompt where it should start creating the iso, and there it says that the game is too big for a DVD5. I used the first option listed with reverseburning and stuff. Could any of you help me?

Well, problem is wthat we need a new version of the program, which handles DVD9. Current version does not.

But if you had problems running it, maybe your copy was already corrupted ? Did you run it from your HD ?

fable i think was cant load a save game (get a dde i think at that point)

world championship snooker 2005 when you go to take a shot the screen goes black but the user interface is still there, after you manage to take the shot it goes back to normal (making the game unplayable)

wrestlemaina 21 locks up at the loading screeen after you select your chars to play
(the last loading screen before you actually fight) it just hangs at that point

Just encountered something spooky. I made a backup with MooGui of Tony Hawk's Underground and it wouldn't open up in Qwix and browse. Same exact options and same exact files with XDVDFS_MAKER, made a perfect iso that would open up with Qwix.

I saw the bug report on the layout site and thought I would just report that I found the same one.

Is your computer File Allocation Table set to FAT32?  If it is, then that is your problem.  You can't have file sizes larger than like 2GB.  ME is no good.  You need to upgrade to an operating system that support the NTFS format.  ME is also like 5 years old.  Move to XP you won't regret it.

So now the program finishes and generates an image file.  However, when I used extract-xiso it only extracted default.xbe but the original image has a handful of other files and a subdirectory containing files.  I'm guessing the NULL pointers above probably shouldn't have been NULL so my fix to bypass these NULL entries probably wasn't correct.  Anyone have a patch to fix this?  If anyone wants to attempt to reproduce this, I was optimizing NFS MW.

I haven't read through the 22 previous pages of this thread so forgive me if it has already been posted.

I figured out what was causing the null pointer access.  The "scan to the left" loop in BuildTree() was wrapping around to 0xFFFFFFFF instead of quitting the loop if decrementing by 1 when i=0.  Once I fixed that, I got an image that I was able to extract successfully.  I burned the image and it seemed to work fine.  I'm not sure if it is optimized any better than before since an alpha sorted image seemed to be fine too.  I just wanted to see if the tools work because I have noticed some games that really work the DVD drive over or "hiccup" during game play.

One layout that I would love to see uploaded is a layout for Maximum Chase (Japanese).  It streams audio during game play and is completely unplayable on some levels when it is not optimized.  It would be a good test to see if the optimized layout fixes problems like that.

Get a DVD-RW, MooGUI and start doing tests moving the files to more logical positions. tongue.gif
