Title: How To Flash/update To Ixtreme Firmware: Tutorial
Post by: sosotiit on May 06, 2007, 07:56:00 AM
This quick tutorial on how to Flash/upgrade you Samsung  to the latest Xtreme firmware will in fact just guide you to the existing tutorials. It is based on using the badflash method (10 sec trick) but could be adapted to be used with the 0800 disc (for ms25 owner only).

YES IT REQUIRES A VIA CHIPSET/PCICARD

QUOTE
It is also recommended that you do not use your X360 to power your drive while the sata cable is disconnected from your MB. The E64 error generated could be logged and use as an indication of a potential change in firmware. Your options are
  • Use a console that is already banned or 3 RLOD
  • Use a Connectivity Kit
  • Do your flash without the vidocable connected which gives you 5 minutes. This will activate the power without initiating the CPU that monitors the E64 error. If you are prepared well, this is enough time. If you take longer the x360 will shut down which is not good in the middle of a flash!!! Be sure to restart it before the flash to give yourself the 5 minutes.

1) Prepare your USB key (Quick Tutorial: Iprep 101 / Xtreme Boot Maker 5.3 & 3.6), if you already have one with XBM or iPrep on it will do just fine.

2) Then follow MS25/28 Flashing/Updating Tutorial

------------------------

Do not ask about how to use this with Samflash, xflashm iflash..., it is not meant for it, you need to find another tutorial.

Plse post question in this thread

I thought once you flashed the ms25 the first time it basically turned into an ms28?  So my drive was originally an ms25 before I flashed with extreme 5.2c, but now it's an ms28 and I should just have to use the bad flash (10 sec) method right? Or do I still need the 0800 disc?

I'm waiting until at least tomorrow to bother flashing anyway, to see what happens to others. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

yes and no,

you can always use the bad flash (10 sec trick ) method with the ms25 (and obviously ms28), and in that case you do not need the 0800 disc.
With the ms25 you also have the choice of using the 0800 to unlock your firmguard and flash without the 10 sec trick.
I find it is simpler to always unse bad flash (10 sec) with a via chipset.

One note, the firmware being based on ms28 does not change the fact that your hardware is ms25 and you must spoof the firmware to ms25 (it is by default ms28)

this is how to use the 0800 disc by mrjkwik, well said , clear and concise, nothing to add  biggrin.gif
QUOTE(mrjkwik @ Jun 1 2007, 08:47 AM) View Post

just an fyi kinda post for those concerned about time frames and flashing without the a/v cable in.  here is what i do.

My bootdisk is already prepared since my orig.bin is already on my pc from the first time.

1.  I boot the computer first to prompt, then enter the mtkflash command but do not hit enter.
2.  Power on 360 by hitting eject.  This will pop open the tray, and I put in the 0800 disc but dont close the drive.
3.  Now I hit enter.
4.  Then close the drive and wait about 20-30 seconds.
5.  Next I select my primary and flashing begins.

Total time is about 2 minutes, so I'd have 3 minutes to spare from the 360 auto shutting down from not having the a/v cable in.

Yes, nothing new in this post.  Sometimes its nice to have something reiterated for those that don't go searching for it.

Thanks for the reply.  My situation is a little more complicated.  I replaced my hitachi v78 with an ms25.  I followed this guide last time and it's been working fine

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=585302

The only thing I spoofed was v78 I never did anything about the fact that it's an ms25 not an ms28.  Could you elaborate a little on that step? Is it necessary? Thanks for the tips.

Method tested samsung ms25. 5.2a to 5.3a upgrade using xbm with file modded.
Did xread/xflash method rather than mtkflash.
Retail gears of war and backup dead rising checked and working 100%.

Thanks sosotiit your fix guide was perfectly timed.

Yes, another method to Flash/update the firmware on a Samsung drive !!

... Note that if your samsung is a replacement drive for another model or you have replaced your Motherboard, then you must use the proper drive ID in the Spoof of Step 12
-If your Samsung is a ms25 and is the original drive, make sure you select the drive ID as ms25
-If you replaced your drive, select the drive ID that you had originally on that motherboard.
-If you replaced your motherboard, you need to select the drive ID that was on the MB originally.

Since your ms25 is not the original for that MB then the first condition does not apply to you, so your situation is that you replaced your drive (#2),--> if your origianl drive onthe MB was a v78, you should use v78 as a Drive ID.

good luck,

this feals noobish,

Ok I got my sammy drive preflashed with 5.2, now I want to upgrade I have a few q's on mkt flasher

If I have a common chipset (via)do I need to install custom drivers, also I believe there is a prog to inject the cd key called kdx?, So this method would involve no hexing.

Thanks

forget the injecting of key, use the tutorial above.

since it came preflashed, if you do not have the key , you will need to get that first How to recover your X360 drive key, then use the Tut above.

I have some questions about upgrading.

I´ve flashed my MS28 from the original fw to 5.2a w/ succes, everything ok.

Well, now I want to upgrade to 5.3a   Extreme boot maker won´t allow me to make a boot disk w/ 5.3 rar, so I do it w/ 5.2.

How and when do I replace the xtremefw.bin on the diskette with a 5.3a one ?  Should I patch the fw, should I just copy and change name, or what ?

After this step, should I continue flashing as I did the first time (remembering that in my dvd I´ve got the 5,2a )  ?  I saved my orig.bin, will it be necessary ?

Damn, i´m very sorry for the stupid questions, but it´s killing me...

 Thanks in advance,

 Pedro

that is answered in that tutorial

keep the same orig.bin that you have currently (and print a copy of the key when open with FW toolbox beacuse a harddisk die  wink.gif sometimes)
and just follow step 9 to 21 of the tut.

THen I get "Cannot find specified program" and then hit anmy key to close, and no new firmware. I have X360SAM.EXE in the same folder along with my orig.bin. Am I missing something?

Ok so it's been a while since 5.1

But mtkflash w /sata fw53a.bin

It then asks for Master/Slave, I choose master/

It says:

Flash Type : "SST(SSt39SF020)"
Updating....Finished! DataSum EB9D, OPCSum  0

but it only flashed one bank, shouldn't it flash 3?

-D

Thats because you didn't merge the firmware. You need to type mtkflash w /sata /m fw53a.bin

i think its called this because it can "repair" drives that have been flashed incorrectly, or have had floppys fail, or power surges, ect.

Hello all,

I have a samsung mS25 dvd drive. I may have to update the firmware.

The questions are..

I download the firmware but i have a bunch of them.. which one i should use?

xtrem53a, xtrem53b, xtrem53c ?

Or

53a-ms25, 53b-ms25, etc ?

What file i should use?
also what are the difference between A, B, C, etc.. what these letters means?

PS, i know this go on the newbie forum, but i tried that and no one helped.

the different letters have to do with drive speed and other small differences

i always use A  ,, never had any problems

xtrem53a .. use that one if you are unsure but use good media .. ie verbatims

???? not following you , do not see any previous post from you on that...

you would do that if you had an ms28 before and replaced it with a ms25, then you would want your ms25 to look as a ms28 to your motherboard such that you do not get an E66 error.
no sure if it helps or how it relates to xtreme5.3  biggrin.gif

Can't edit my last message... don't know why.

Tested c&c 3 demo, same problem as game.
black screen and locks up console.

Tested Rumble Roses demo (man that sucked) and doesn't work either, immediate lock up.

Teste blitz  &nd Monster madness demo, they both worked fine as far as I played... for about 4 - 5 minutes.

the rest of the games freeze within the minute.

so as far as I can get, is that my xbox bricked by the spring update...

will still try originals, but if the c&c 3 demo has the same problem as the original game (locks up, and sometimes when it freeze the black screen shows some green squares from the c&c3 logo)

I hate this... just when I wanted to play a game! (don't play that much really, only now cause c&c3 was released.)

Think I have to call ms tomorrow then...

that doesn't sound right. The C&C demo does not even use the drive since it gets loaded to your HD. if that is locking up maybe its your xbox that is broken?

Just wanted to check something soso,

I've got 2 XBOX 360's, flashed them both from original ---> xtreme5.2D
One is an MS-25, one is an MS-28. Both working fine on live.

I want to re-flash them with 5.3D, can I use the same method I used the first time? i.e. Textbooks Tut, XBM reading current firmware, hacking it (me checking key looks ok on another PC) and flashing with the badflash method?

Bearing in mind that one is an MS-25 and the other an MS-28? The first time I did the 25 I did it the normal way, but can I now use the badflash 10 sec method? and flash right over 5.2D?

Thankyou for your help, I have read the guides many times but just want to check 100% before I go ahead.

badflash will work for both (even for ms25 since there is the firmguard now)

I am not a big fan of the batch file flashing (samread, xread...) tends to not show the errors very well. I guess if you check the key in between it is already better. also make sure the ms25 is spoofed ok as ms25

I much prefer the mtkflash/fwtoolbox described here wink.gif , but up to you

Post by: insidious2 on May 10, 2007, 08:39:00 PM
i tried to flash my ms 25 from 5.2 to 5.3 a few days back.it failed on the third bank.the floppy drive just bailed on me mid flash.
anyway my pci card came yesterday.VIA VT 6421L.
now i know there are several combos of things to do, and order of steps to take (seconds counted, sata plug timing, ect.) to get the flashing working.i don't wanna get into asking about the trial and error stuff, rather precisely ask for advise/assistance with the more concrete issues I'm having.
Suffice to say my problem related to my starting this thread has not been resolved.so let me get to it.
I tried editing mtkflash to work with the via card by using xtreme bootmaker, both 3.6 and 5.3.
in both of them i had an issue inputing the firmware, the .rar for 5.3 or the .bin for 3.6.in the case of 5.3, the program doesn't allow me to create the edited mtkflash without the firmware inputed.in 3.6, it lets me know that it's something unknown..but allows me to continue with editing the mtkflash.

question: is that cool as is? should the mtkflash be edited correctly despite the firmware issue?
(i read in a tutorial that it should but i wanted to make sure)

my drive is originally an ms 25.common sense told me to check ms 28 bad flash recovery option in xtreme bootmaker.is that good judgement?

Anyone with a definitive explanation to what
"?? =00 should be 70"
and/or
"??=80 should be 70"

"??=80 should be 70"
is indicative of?
how about "err: fail to open input file: flash type: "sst (sst25vf040)(serial)"
because i've gotten all of those messages during the attempted flashing process.
i've gotten as far as getting the floppy to boot to the point where it says

"1. XTREME pri. master" (or something of a close variation)

when i click on it it always instantly goes to "a.400 master/slave (or something of a close variation)
does "1. XTREME pri. master" as an option to select mean that my mtkflash has been edited correctly to work with the via chipset?
or is it still open at that point that my mtkflash hasn't been edited correctly?

i'd appreciate any help with any and /or all of the above inquiries.I've read all the tutorials within sight, and beyond sight.these questions will give me a greater understanding to what i am doing wrong.thanks.

UPDATE: It works!
I used a pre-constructed mtkflash for the via chipset.
then i followed the 10 sec method according to it's default instructions (turned on 360 exactly 10 seconds after selecting sata)
it flashed back to my original flawlessly.
So I am pretty sure that I was not creating my via mtk correctly with bootmaker.
the mtkflash i used i downloaded.amd i'd love to upload it for anyone that might be going through the same problems i was, BUT it seems like a real grey area as far as the rules are concerned.matter fact I'm 80% sure it's probably not allowed.mods, can you confirm this to me?i'd love to save someone time and trouble if things aren't working but i respect this site and its policy, so just let me know for sure.how about pms?
anyway, thanks to sotiit and textbook for all the help and provided tutorials.
btw. after flashing orig back, i flashed to 5.3 with no problem.did the update, gears of war orig and backup bootup fine:)

I have a toshiba/samsung drive with ms25.  I previously flashed it with xtreme 4.x.  I'm trying to update it to 5.3.  I'm using a via 6421.  I've tried both the normal way and using the 0800 disc.  Every time I run the mtkflash command I get this:

            port: 8000, master/slave: a0

ERR:fail to initial IDE port, please reboot PC!

Any suggestions?  I used the xtreme bootmaker to make the modified mtkflash for the drive.  It has worked in the past just fine.

no need to return to riginal with samsung, you just flash over it

Hamsnibit
that is always the tough one
have you redone you usb key? or maybe you can redo it the way it was? change your sata cable.
try rebooting both without connecting the cable, and connect the sata cable only after you are at the prompt.
you can check also: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=600386

leave the sata cable disconnected and boot both to dash/dos prompt, then connect the cable and continue

if that does not work it is your usb/pc

Hi all!
I flashed to 5.3 before updating, thought everything was ok at first, until i tried to boot the first game.

c&c3 locks up immediately when tried booting... thus the whole console freezes.

other games boot fine till the menu, and then lock up.
some can even boot to the part when you can start playing but then it freezes in about 5 sec to 60 seconds.

tried restoring to original (ms28 samsung) but didn't help (backups gave the usual error, originals not tried yet i lent them out to a friend who doesn't dare to risk flashing.

movie dvd's play fine ...

flashed back to 5.3 A  , c&c3 booted till menu and then froze.
flash back to ms28 and then to 5.3 B (slow speed) and still nothing, games boot but most freeze at the menu or at some intro movie.

lost planet ask for an update, and then freezes.

the whole xbox freezes, and can''t get back to dashboard. Tray of drive will open, but that's it.

thought you should know smile.gif maybe more folks will encounter this problem, or is it perhaps the disk check ? will try my originals tomorrow ASAP!

my regargds

Ken

I have the same problem...
Using xtreme 5.3 on m25 with the spring update. Demos just freeze randomly...

have an ms25 orig.bin trying to make an ixtreme firmware.  when i use the ixtreme maker, it warns me that my firmware is for ms25 not ms28, and asks if i still want to continue.  i did, but haven't updated the firmware yet.  wanted to ask if i  missed a step?

spoof as ms25

i dont get some of these posts...just flash your drives already

if using a usb flash drive (which you should be anyways) it takes all of 15secs to flash

if the flash doesnt work (no/wrong key) or you find out you did something wrong just reflash

From my understanding the best advice to MS-25 owners is this:
- if you have used your drive with MS-25 version-id after the update you should stick with that version-id. You'll risk being detected eventually for having a MS-25 with firmguard but at least the drive should work without E71.

- if you have a console with MS-25 that's not update yet or had spoofed your MS-25 to MS-28: use MS-28 version-id. Its a lot safer because iXtreme is based on MS-28 and thus behaves like MS-28.

I flashed my MS-25 to MS-28 a long time ago and the only way for Microsoft to tell its not really a MS-25 would be if they had a database or if the drive key gives it away.

No, iXtreme is a full update, no need to flash anything else before.

I read in the other thread (http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=605805) that you can E66 (not 71, had that confused) allows for FW upgrades so going from MS-25 to MS-28 is fine.

Therefore my recommendation is for every MS-25 owner to switch to MS-28 now and never go back.

i think you're wrong: i only use floppy drives and only one time there was a read-failure. but the ms25/ms28 will be recognized with a damaged firmware, too. it would be very hard to do to damage one of these drive ONLY with software (surely you can damage it with the vcc-method).

Clicking 'yes' will transfer the drive version strings accordingly (ms25 to ms25) however, e66 allows for upgrades (but not downgrades) so spoofing as ms28 is ALSO fine. So, no sweat guys, you can do either and your fine. Neither is better or worse.
It was speculation (along with about 300 other things). We have no proof that they are using that as a basis. We will just have to let time tell if it will become a issue. I highly doubt it though.

Just IMHO, what I would do if I had a ms25 since you basically have the choice:

For those that it has been hacked (or dash updates are done) before then keep the same approach: if your previous hacked firmware ID it as ms25 keep it like that, if you just use hacked firmware as ms28 again I would leave the same, no changes.

For the few others, your choice to start with ms25 or ms28 as an ID for your ms25 drive.

Hey guy's sorry if this has already been covered, but i can find any info...

I've got an ms25 drive in a console that originally came with an Hitachi 78k, I've been using 5.3C spoofed to 78k.. but now i'm not sure what to do.. the ixtreme bat doesnt even give me an option to spoof 78k, so i guess FW toolbox will pick up the slack.. but my question is should I use a ms2.5 or ms2.8 orig.bin? and answer yes or no in the bat? i am unclear what the difference is in the end maybe someone could try and explain it better... I.e. if your choices in the bat file actually change the core or just how it reports... thanks.

the original  ms25/ms28 wont matter because you overwrite the ID with v78 latter. Just use a ms25/ms28 firmware (non spoofed) with the good key.

or simply use the method describe in the tutorial here, copy the key with toolbox, then spoof with tool box again.

QUOTE
-Extract the the firmware you want (Xtrem10a.bin) to a directory and rename it to hacked.bin
-Open orig.bin in FW toolbox 3.1B and do ctrl-c on the key (copy to clipboard)
-Open hacked.bin in FW toolbox and do ctrl-v to insert the key in the field hit 'Replace Key'
-Go in Tool / Spoof Firmware / select 'v78'/Hit 'Apply Spoof'  <--For you with v78
Close and reopen hacked.bin to make sure that it is identified with its proper ID (v78) and that the key is present. Copy the hacked.bin to your USB key.

Hi soso,
I have an unbanned ms25 and so far, all the fw i've used (3.3, 4.2, 5.3) have been spoofed as ms25, if allowed.
Now with iXtreme, I understand that I have two choices:
1. ms28 fw (native for iXtreme) spoofed as ms25. (by pressing "y")
2. ms28 fw running as ms28. (By pressing "n").

What do you think is more risky? Running a spoofed fw or running an "upgraded" fw ?
From my understanding so far, running upgraded (ms28) should be better cuz:
a. spoofed = riskier as said by the legend himself (c4eva)
b. upgraded should be ok with ms, cuz there must be thousands of 360, they repaired and installed ms28, where original drive was ms25.
c. looking at the percentage is ms25 bans versus ms28 bans, ms28 again seems to be more secure.

Now, my view is contrary to your's and many more here (and obviously, you guys are more knowledgeable than me).
What do you recommed? Thanks

you know on this your view is as good as mine, no one knows what and if ms will run after that and from what angle.
-my view is keep it as it was, so you are not showing any changes
-some disagree and say that a ms28 based firmware in a drive ID as ms25 will look suspicious
really I will not pretend knowing for sure , it would be false.
If you have a good feel by using ms28, there is also a very good logic using that and it is as good a guess as any , go for it man

Hey

I saw that in iXtreme 1.0, there is a "Make iXtreme firmware" executable. I used this with my orig.bin file and it created 'ix10.bin'.

My question is, if I rename ix10.bin to hacked.bin and place that in the BACKUPS/12345/1234567 directory on the the floppy that I created for my last flash, will I be able to skip the SAMREAD portion of the flash and just go straight to 'SAMHACK 12345 1234567'? Would that work fine or would it be more prudent to go through the whole SAMREAD and then SAMHACK process again?

Thanks smile.gif

Having a problem patching with new "Make iXtreme firmware.cmd"
It says "System cannot execute specified file" at the top, and then says it created the file, but if I look at it, the Key is still FFF...and I need to select MS25, for my drive, so I cannot just patch it manually, since it will come up as MS28. I have my orig.bin in the same folder, what am I doing wrong?

OK, I got a different copy of ixtreme andit seems to work now. But I have a second question, I am supposed to hit "Yes" when it says file mismatched right? I did that and checked it in FW toolbox 3.0 and it now says MS25 with my correct Key, so I should be good to go I assume...?

It is also recommended that you do not use your X360 to power your drive while the sata cable is disconnected from your MB. The E64 error generated could be logged and use as an indication of a potential change in firmware. Your options are
Use a console that is already banned or 3 RLOD
Use a Connectivity Kit
Do your flash without the vidocable connected which gives you 5 minutes. This will activate the power without initiating the CPU that monitors the E64 error. If you are prepared well, this is enough time. If you take longer the x360 will shut down which is not good in the middle of a flash!!! Be sure to restart it before the flash to give yourself the 5 minutes.

I have a question about the E64 Error

Today I flashed my ms28 with the iXtreme 1.0A... unfortunately i did not notice the possibility of the E64 error and I'm afraid it logged firmware change?

I haven't been on Live  yet, and I did use the xbox360 power while flashing. But "not use your XBOX360 to power your drive while the sata cable is disconnected from your MB"

my xbox was on only while the sata cable was connected from my ms28 to my PC's motherboard, does that mean i am not affected by the E64 error?

Thanks

at this point the e64 is uncertain, and doubtful it would be use alone to ban. Tempted to say probably not a big deal if the rest is ok (stealth of disc...). It is very uncertain so who knows .

@JoBlack

plse careful asking for software, instead why not do it with Xbootmaker? Most of the time much better since the port can change,
-what drive ms25/ms28?
-any via card (via 4621) available?

not sure, I always use mtkflash as per this tutorial, you can check the Textbook tutorial in the pinned.

Sorry for asking...but can you give me a link to the Texbook Tutorial? I would hate to have to use something other than what I'm familiar with. Couldn't I just rename the xtrem10a.bin to xtreme.bin and put it in the samsung folder of the XBF directory on my usb drive and flash like normal with x360sam? Just an idea. Any help is much appreciated!

check your pc motherboard, which model and google it. it would have to be a via 8237.

if it is not that you can buy a via6421 card for about 15$, and they are working great for most people. Very few had problems.

im looking to update from 5.3a. I just want to use an 0800 disk and my 360 to power it, has anyone had any problems ugrading to ixtreme with their xbox 360 powering the drive? I have a via card but it will be easier to use 0800 since you can unlock 5.3 with the disk and just flash normally.

Hi guys,

just reading over your recommended steps on flashing the x360,

(Recommended that you do not use your X360 to power your drive while the sata cable is disconnected from your MB)

With the above message,  i have already flashed my firmware with the 5.2 in the past, so i have powered on the unit, i know its recommended not to, but i have, does this just mean im more at risk of getting banned?

please advice, much appreciated,

Thanks

Cheers

I would not be to concerned if you flashed with your x360 and the AV in. It is one thing that was considered, but most are saying it is probably not a biggie. That said, if you want to be on the safe side, get a connectivity kit on do it in less than 5 minutes (relatively easy on a samsung)

Ave,

Ok I don't know much about this - but someone had posted the following in response to my confusion questions about the flashing method:

QUOTE
I'd always recommend my method of simply opening iExtreme with FW toolbox 3.0, pasting your drive key in to it and uploading the saved file to your drive via MTKFLASH.

Thus far I had been looking at the method posted by sosotilt.
I have an ms25 flashed to xtreme5.2 which works fine - however, I do want to upgrade to the ixtreme1.2 as I have not been banned yet. The method i've been looking at is just not giving me clarity.

This above-mentioned comments seem to point to an easier method. Is there any tutorial, guide or threads regarding this FW Toolbox method?

Thanks.

that is basically the method I was proposing before: fwtoolbox to transfer the key/ mtkflash to flash (as per method 2 in MS25/28 Flashing/Updating Tutorial ).

Since they have improved samtool with version 0.7 and it does all the spoofing automatically, I now propose that instead. Feel it is simpler (step 9 to 21 in the same tutorial). It also preseve the position of the key in the firmware whereas FWtoolbox does not. No impact known yet, but who knows for the future.

in short, extract 1.2 to a directory under the root, put your orig.bin in, hit make fw (rename it after to hacked.bin when copying to USB) and flash the resulting file
mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin

hope it helps

Ok, I do get it now. I don't think I paid attention to the fact that there was a Method 2 mentioned in your tutorial.

One Question for you. When you say: "put your orig.bin in" .. do you mean the original orig.bin that was created at the time I flashed my drive for the first time to xtreme5.2? Do you need that original orig.bin? I do have it as I had backed up original firmware - in fact I even have that USB Drive intact with all the files on it.
And if this is the Case - This Means I DON"T have to do these Steps:

QUOTE
# Getting your orig.bin Connect you PC sata cable to the X360 Drive (some have to do this after step 2)
# start your x360 and pc to the dos prompt (using the USB key)
# type mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin
# list of port will appear (if your mtkflash is correct)
# Only if you have a ms28: power down your x360
# select the port on your PC,
# Only if you have a ms28: then count to 10 (try different count) and power your x360
# the pc will read the firmware to the orig.bin file

Right??

One More Question: Let's say I successfully flash to ixtreme1.2 -  Is it possible to reflash back to xtreme5.2? Only reason I ask this is in case my backups don't work on ixtreme1.2 (cause I have been hearing this a lot - i definitely do not want to reburn all my backups!).

Thanks!

Ave,

Having gotten more information, I guess these are the Steps I'm coming to for upgrading my fw from xtreme5.2 -> ixtreme1.2

QUOTE
STEP I: Prepare USB Key
STEP II: Getting your orig.bin

I'm assuming I have to Omit these two Steps since I have my Orig.Bin with me from my previous flash!! Please Correct Me If I'm Wrong.
And thus, the following becomes my First Step.

STEP I: Making your hacked.bin
1. Extract from iXtreme12.rar to a directory under the root C:\iXtreme
2. Place a copy of the orig.bin in C:\iXtreme where orig.bin is the original fw of the drive that was first associated to that MB. (I'm assuming this is the one I have in my Backup on my USB Drive that I used to flash original fw to xtreme5.2)
3. In Windows Explorer you double click on Make iXtreme firmware.cmd and a DOS window will open telling you the key. You will also be requested if you want to spoof when the orig.bin is not associated to a ms28. (I want to enter N here because I don't want to spoof my ms25 to ms28)
4. Now you want to see the message saying " ***SUCCESS*** " and Drive Key copied
5. Rename the resulting iX__.bin file to hacked.bin and copy it to your USB Drive.

STEP IV: Flashing your hacked.bin
1. Connect you PC sata cable to the X360 Drive
2. start your x360 and pc to the dos prompt (using the USB key)
3. type mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin
4. list of port will appear (if your mtkflash is correct)
5. select the port on your PC,
6. the pc will flash the firmware to the drive (it will show the 4 banks being flashed)

-soso: Can you confirm if this sounds good to you?

Thanks!

looks great,
1) no need to get the orig. bin , you already have it (so it is only step 9 to 21 in original post that you need)
2) no need to redo your usb

I'm assuming this is the one I have in my Backup on my USB Drive that I used to flash original fw to xtreme5.2)
YES the first orig.bin you generated when you first flashed

Enter No for the spoof to ms25 seems like the best thing to do. But if you get a E66, then you will have to do it.

good luck,
and great job understanding all your info and preparing your plan  smile.gif .

During my first flash to iXtreme 1.0 I was very careful to keep the A/V cable unplugged during the flashing process.... then I forgot to plug the SATA back in when I went back downstairs to test out my newly flashed drive.  Turned it on 3 or 4 times trying to figure out why it wasn't booting anything, so I'm sure I got snagged for the E64 error multiple times.

Last night I was buying and selling cars in Forza 2 with no problem on Xbox Live.  So one of three things is true:

(a) E64 does not count towards a ban
(b) E64 counts as a "partial" hit towards a ban but isn't sufficient for a ban outright
© Microsoft has stopped banning people for the time being to let us fall into a false sense of security, at which point we'll all be screwed

I'm taking the "work it while I can" approach and playing my games just like I always did.  If Microsoft can detect me they will detect me, and if they feel they need to ban me I'll be banned.  I knew the risks when I flashed my drive.

Baberg, no need for another debate on that.
Was said often that AV cable in/E64 not to be likely to cause a ban by itself.

so as far as this thread is concerned it is about flashing, not what will get you banned because counter argument will come that you may now be logged and that they are not doing it immediately not give their strategy, instead they cumulate info. then you will answer....  and this thread will become another F***%?%? theory of ban

we can answer a question, no open a debate.

You will know if you got it by itching, redness ...

Ok, too much wine at dinner,
The lower-right led will be red and the TV screen will say E66. Most likely you will not have an issue

if you still have your usb, just put the hacked.bin in it, type MTKFLASH... and it will give you the port selection. Choose the port if you have used a 0800 disc or do the 10 sec trick (ref: How To Flash/Update To Latest iXtreme firmware: Tutorial, iPrep or Xtreme Boot maker / Via card method)
then it will run 4 time 0 to 100% saying bank 0, bank1... until it says done.

I believe it is the xtremefw.bin in backup that is good, but not sure since I do not use samtool.

open them with FW toolbox 3.0, you will see which is identified as 5.2 and has the key in it. the other one should be the generic file with no key.

Do your flash without the vidocable connected which gives you 5 minutes. This will activate the power without initiating the CPU that monitors the E64 error. If you are prepared well, this is enough time. If you take longer the x360 will shut down which is not good in the middle of a flash!!! Be sure to restart it before the flash to give yourself the 5 minutes.

wot exactly happens bricked or wot ?

some can be recover by flashing again, some by badflash, some not sad.gif .
note that for most people who have already prepared their Firmware, all that is done in less than a minutes for bad flash method and less than two for 0800 disc method (only ms25)

1) Prepare your USB key (Quick Tutorial: Iprep 101 / Xtreme Boot Maker 5.3 & 3.6), if you already have one with XBM or iPrep on it will do just fine.

2) Then follow MS25/28 Flashing/Updating Tutorial

------------------------

Do not ask about how to use this with Samflash, xflashm iflash..., it is not meant for it, you need to find another tutorial.

hello soso and everyboddy else,

Ive spend a few hours reading the entirre thread hoping to find something concreet about replacing an geniune ms-28 whit an fresh bhought ms-25.  Ive done many flashes and updates but this week or the week after when i will get my first drive replacement it will be the first time i gonna replace my ms-28 (device) whit that of an ms-25.  Now, at one hand poeple say its just ok to take the current "hacked firm whit key and all" from the current ms-28 and just used it to flash the ms-25 right away whitout spoofing anything under dos whit the mtkflash command u see..   But on the other hand  wont that just be a partial ms-28 drive and still partial ms-25 !!???  That said, i ask this because ive read through this thread when someone ALWAYS from Day 1 have worked whit an ms-28 drive it better woud be to spoof an (ms-25 in my case) to an ms-28 ID, right!?  So, wot do i do next!!  Am i getting this right, and do we only spoof the hack firm to avoid the dreadfull E66 error!!??? Or is there more to it (live wise perhaps!!)

Many tnx,

baltatje,

no perfect answer to this one,

-since your MB expects to see a ms28, and that the hack fw is based on a ms28 fw, you should definitely have it as ms28.
Do not spoof, prepare a FW with your current key and the method in this thread and you will get a ms28 hacked fw ready to flash.

ok tnx for ur input soso,

Its clear to me now from speaking to others on the chat that i just need to keep my previously hacked firmware whit the authentic drive key and just flash it whit an non-spoofed firm, since the 25 and 28 are both the same in many ways to m$ appearantly .

Another thing came to my mind,  shall i backup the ms-25 drive its firmware and possible the key just incase!!  Or wot am i to expect whit that new sammy 25 regarding this!!?
Also, i asume when u say 'no perfect asnwer on this' u realy mean that i shoud try it whit non-spoofed and only use a spoofed firm as final solution if anything goes wrong in terms of errors right !!!??

many tnx,

urs baltatje,

keep backup of everything,

for the key it is a good idea to also print it, because HD go back or we reformat them and forget the key  wink.gif .

no perfect I simply meant that for you to have it ms28 made a lot of sense. What if MS can eventually compare the firmware  (ms28) to the hw (ms25) it is running on?? but then again the MB is used to see a ms28!!! the most logical seems to match the motherboard. But who knows of the future  biggrin.gif

It lloks as if your 0800 does not activate anything. FYI, With newer fw it has to be on DL, SL is not good anymore for 0800
