Title: Price Of Video Games

QUOTE (Feck @ Apr 8 2003, 09:30 PM)
All i want to ask in this poll is if xbox, PS2 GC and PC games were cheaper would you still copy them? I dont want any insulting messages, no snyde remarks about me being a hypocrite or anything. Just a simple yes or no answer
the result is to see whether or not that modders blame the high price of video games for their choice to to chip a console or whether its a case of everbody else i know has done it why don't i

people "backup" games because their expensive, and a backup you dont get all the features,
but they get all ho0ked into it.. if it were 5 bucks and u could get it for free what would be better?

I buy 1 xbox game a week usually, well, aslong as there is a good one out but I like to make Multigame disc on the ones I have just because it is simpler.

Prices ???  The prices ain't that bad to begin with
My wife is a Ass. Manager @ TOYSRUS she get great deals on Xbox titles . Platnium Series games for 17.99(after employee discount) vs 19.99. Hell you can't beat 13 Dreamcast Games for 5.00 apiece (liquidations). When Montgomery Wards went out of Buisness I got a whole shit load of nin64 games for 1.00 apiece.
Prices have no bearing on Archiving your collection . I have 3 boys (8-12) and they TRASH there games (and mine if I don't pay attention) so I learned along time ago that if I was to EVER keep my collection I needed to back them up . It's not Illegal , it is our right to have a backup to preserve the original (in the U.S. anyways).
Poll wise , I could care less what the price is , I back it up regardless . For 1, I paid for it and 2 ,I have that right .  .....................peace

FECK not all people are pirates & I would appreciate if you would stop calling me one cause I come to this forum . That is what you said right ?

Know the U.S. Law ,,(this is where I live)
It is against the law to reproduce copyrighted material for the purpose of selling it to third parties. US Laws only allows for you to make one backup copy of any software or media for personal and archival purposes .

Feck, are you honestly this stupid that you really don't understand why people make legal backups of their own property? Alright, let me explain it real slow.... shit breaks. Entropy affects everything, in the end, and do you really want entropy's incarnation (say, your year-old daughter) to destroy a fifty dollar product? Well, no, not really. So why not invest $40 and some money for the media so you can lock the original up safe and tight so it doesn't ever get used, much less destroyed?
Hell, I'd do it even if it was illegal. I'm NOT going to let $50 just get flushed down the shitter. And, quite frankly, if you're honestly so stupid that you don't understand this, then maybe you should go somewhere else, where your limited views can be more easily accepted (I don't know if xbox-retard.com exists yet, but I'm sure you can reserve the domain name for yourself).

Okay since you aren't openly comming out and criticizing every member of this site, I would say that if I could pick up BRAND NEW XBOX games for $20 or less then I might not bother with a modchip and backing up my games. When I say BRAND NEW I don't mean 1yr old games that have never been used I mean the actual latest and greatest games. I have yet to find a game worth $50. I refuse to pay more than $35 max for a game becuase if I spend more I feel like I wasted my money. I buy almost all of my games used because of this and I don't buy very many (since I would go broke). Anyways to go along with Nazis X I have Nephews who visit me fairly frequently and they always like to play with thier Uncle's videogame systems. Despite the fact that I make every effort to take good care of my discs they sometimes get abused by less considerate youngsters. I would much rather spend $1.30 to replace a damaged Ritek DVD-R disc then to search around and hope I get another sweet deal on a used game. True you can clean games but that only works so many times. So far my modchip has saved me approx. $120 in replacement costs (i.e. 3 DVD-Rs that I have had to replace due to being stepped on, severly scratched, ect.). If anyone else has access to or uses your system you can understand quite easily the value of having a cheap replacement option available to you while your precious (and costly) originals are safely tucked away. Even if no one else uses your system people are prone to make mistakes and you yourself might eventualy do something detrimental to one of your originals no matter how careful you try to be. Just a little food for thought Feck.

Ok guys,Here is another reason to ban my arse.

I hate people that say that they buy games when ok they may buy one game for every 20 games that they download.

I only buy games that i really like and so far i have bought 10 games but i have downloaded about 50 games so far and deleted 30 games as they are total crap and not what i tought that a xbox game should be,I hate another game converted from the pc.The price of games has always been my pet hate and $MS and game companys will not listen so pirates will always be there.

I can not understand why you can but the latest dvd movie or lastest music cd for $20AUD but have to pay $99 AUD for a game. If software companys want to stop pirates there is only one way to do that and that is to drop xbox or pc games to the price of music cd's or movie dvd's.

Until then i will copy these games.

You will find that most people on here are pirates that will not admit it,which piss's me off as i know who they are

Even at a break even cost for games if you need to buy the same game 5 times it.
The cost is in the software on the medium.
Besides the average breaking consept, I have purtched 4 copies and got the first free with the system of Tetris for gameboy. The reason people physicaly stole the game medium. If I had a archival system for gameboy I would have not had to buy mutible copies, just a cheaper medium.
Besides being able to have the JSRF without the dual disk menu is nice.

Piracy is bad, support programers for without them there would be no game.

I am also in AUS, and this is another point that I have discovered reading the newsgroups.  Why are they always $A99.95 or $109.95 here????

Reading the newsgroups, people in the states seem to be able to get new games for like $US30 usually - some maybe dearer.  That's like $A50 at the current exchange rate.  Even before the exchange rate went up it was still like $A60-65.

We have gotten a couple of new releases at a cheaper price - Rally Fusion $A79.95, MX Firefly $A49.95 and a few others.

However, people can find bargins at EB for $US9.99 sometimes (can't remember which game it was) but for $A15 I would go out and buy it even if I didn't like it!!!!!!!!!!!

Our bargains are if you can find a new release at $A80 or less.

It's called people will not openly admit to breaking laws when it involves writing it, afterall, why leave a trail of proof when there is no good reason to?

Doesn't make sense to ever say you commit copyright infringement.

Once again Mage you have lived up to your name (wise person). Whether you do backups or go Hammy's route is your business but comming out and saying it is just plain dumb. Leaving a chain of evidence isn't bright.

Ay, the reason they are so overpriced is because they gotta pay money for research and the technology do do some of the stuff that they do. A music CD is different, you're just listening to songs, there is no video and much technology put into it. That's why they are so expensive. That's why I dont pay anymore, I just download my games and play them off my hard drive. :P

I really trully believe in buying games that are worth it. I rent and download a lot. and if i find something that I am going to play for a while I buy it. But WHen i goto bestbuy or CompUSA there really isn;t anything good, atleast not for the PC. Most of the stuff now is pure crap.
