Title: New Car At Last!
Post by: Silentscream__ on February 24, 2007, 08:25:00 AM
Desperately wanted a sleek looking coupe rather than a standard hatchback like every other young driver in the UK has, so after a year of saving and searching for a coupe with a small engine (insurance is a bitch in england) I found a beautiful condition 99' puma.
Had the windows blacked out already and had all the service history so I took it.

Pics are from the dealers website:

That thing won Top Gears car of the year a few years back. Baybe it was the Racing Puma. But it's a damn fun to drive little car. Its not just the looks that intrigue me.

not saying that they are the same.. but most of ford's cars have ties between their uk and us counterparts. just cause she looks different on the outside doesn't mean that they don't share other things under the skin..

It's what the US SHOULD have gotten instead of this line of Escorts, Cougars, and Foci. I've seen a track only on in the states. And know people whom have owned them and LOVED them. Supposedly Go kart like handling. Unlike anything Ford has had in production in the states in recent memory. Maybe you could find parts that were from other cars. But they are not like anything we got in the States.

Well I can definately agree with you there, I can take corners in this car faster than i ever did before, it holds the road perfectly and powers out of them without any hesitation what so ever.

Sexual to drive.. bit of a hard ride but once I got used to it its like sex on wheels  biggrin.gif

i was thinking the exact same thing, i wouldn't mind seeing those in America and with a 1.4 liter im sure it would sell for fuel efficiency (not that i would get one, theres no replacement for desplacement). and im not sure if it takes any enfluence from any american cars for reasons that one the foci which it resembles since they are both hatches is already selling in UK and quite well i believe, and second a cougar doesn't seem to have any drive train similarities, the body panels are completly different, and the interior must be different since the steering wheels are on opposite sides and all. which leaves ford with very little to bother building off of.

Funny I havnt been pulled over yet (ever in fact - weird for a young driver, most of my friends have been randomnly stopped about 2 or 3 times each!) , I had all around tints on my last car as well.. plod dont seem to care about tints around where I live  biggrin.gif

I imagine the reason why we don't have those here in the US is for safety reasons, although I imagine one of those would be safer than a Ford Festiva or Ford Aspire.

Highly doubt it's safety related. It's more on the lines that us Americans wouldn't touch that thing with a 10 foot poll (i wouldn't!). We sold the Civic CRX and it's smaller than that car. Then again that was in the 80s when safety standards aren't as tough as they are now. I still can't believe Middle Eastern countries get the Holden Caprice (LS powered rear wheel drive), but we don't get anything close to zeta until 09.
