i dont like how they are just faceplates....MAKE A WHOLE CASE come on now...
-
the face plates that i got when i purchased my 360 were just a peice of paper sandwitched between two peices of plastic.
it would be nice if they were printed, they would be better then
-
The only one I've seen that I liked was that chrome one. I really like the look of it attached to a 360 with the Black Knight case.
-
"I like the stock look best."
Thats some dandy grammar going on there
-
i wouldnt want to even change the front since it will only be the front.
-
Why is it that the Japense market always get the better stuff? I mean have you seen some of the Jap. (no disrepect) faceplates. I mean wow. Not I gotta shell out 30+ for a peice of plastic.
I guess M$ has another sucker, me.
-
concept is kool, but it has no style or class
-
All the ms faceplates are just plain bad in my opinion, the only faceplate I have seen and liked so far was the chrome one witch i bought for 35 cad. Money-wise good and looks EXCELLENT!
-
Yes, I must say.. the XCM chrome faceplates are absolutely gorgeous.. I love mine
I personally like the translucent Xtender ones as well (So far I've had a red, a blue, and a green on mine).. They look a lot better in person than they do from pictures and while they might not suit everyone's taste, I personally like em. I haven't seen any m$ or other 3rd party faceplates that catch my fancy (other than the few specialty ones tehy made...), though I definitely need to get a custom airbrushed one made up at some point.
In any event, I like the idea of being able to change the whole identity of my console by just swapping out the faceplate. Granted, it is only the front.. but that's also the only part I ever see. Just my 2ยข
-
I think they're okay, I guess. I've got a few faceplates from Zero Hour, and they're cool. I wouldn't buy a retail faceplate; it's only the limited faceplates that are worth having. Although, those chrome ones look shiny and neat.
-
Most of the face plates suck. Chrome looks good, but it isn't very imaginative. I'd expect these faceplates to get pretty crazy eventually.
I bet someone will find a way to make a face plate light up nicely with different color superbright LEDs. Even that isn't too imaginative but it takes a lot more work than making a mold and slapping a color or pattern on it.
-
Faceplates blow. If you're gonna make something your own you wanna make it full blown LED's cathodes and other cool shit. Fuck a faceplate. I'd rather get myself a custom printed skin.
-
yea the faceplates suck , front looks cool but the rest of the case is still boring and white
-
I don't see the point of changing just the front of the console. I'd rather just keep the whole thing white.
-
So gay. Just so gay.
-
there's none i would buy, make one that's not one solid color, i don't want a solid color that just doesn't fit with my xbox, someone needs to design an XBOX-SCENE one...with a white background so it matches the box, with the xbox-scene little guy big going across the faceplate, that'd be sick, until something like that comes out, i'm not going to buy a faceplate that looks nothing like my xbox 360 at all, and looks awkward when put on.
-
to plain, but if XS could get some made i would be #1 of the order Hint Hint...
-
unless your gonna put some pix on there ur gonna whack off too who cares what it looks like.
tho if ur a show off nerd put some lights or something on there that would be cool....but still a waste of money.

decalgirl.com has downloadable photoshop templates for the 360 faceplate so you can design your own. If its a non-copyrighted image they will even print it for you. Here is the link. 360 Template Page You do have to register, but you get a high quality photoshop or jpg image to work with.
Here's an example of mine:
-
If you have a core system, like me, then you need to get a faceplate. It looks terrible without one, and if your not going to void your warranty for a lil while then def need it. I just made a blue one and stuck it on there and it looks nice.
-
This IS a sad excuse for a new case I hate the white I want CLEAR or GREEN or some other color. I hate faceplaces (exept the platinum one I got)
-
Well the faceplates are really lame, but I am happy that they didn't make the console's case able to be swapped. Because they would find some way to mess it up. They should allow us to open our consoles, and repair them if we mess em up, just charge us more for the repair.
-
The faceplate as the only exchangeable part is IMO a stupid idea. A whole case would be better.
-
QUOTE(sameatshamhaha @ Apr 25 2006, 05:18 AM)
they rip offs aswell $29.99 (nzd) for a shitty peace of plastic, yea right!!!!
Definitely. I might get one if they were cheaper.
-
The only faceplate I've liked so far is the E3 05 faceplate.
-
yeah tehy are liek teh gay

QUOTE(lowendfrequency @ Apr 25 2006, 09:47 PM)
The only faceplate I've liked so far is the E3 05 faceplate.
that should have been the stock plate imo.
the idea of the faceplates is good, but as everyone has alluded to, the execution of them has sucked. there is not a single after market plate I like, other then the PGR3 one. I got my COD2 one for $10 just for a change and I got the outfit one free and dont use it cause its down right retarded.. I mean the guys face is right on the USB flap and you can make him talk LOL
I saw a black one for 10 bux that I would have bought if it didnt have that ugly green logo on it. The football ones were kinda cool too, except I like hokey.
hopefully MS gets their heads out of their butts and makes some cool ones and sells them for $10 a pop then I'd be more inclined to buy one, till then I hope XCM makes a complete black case & plate, then I'll change the lights to blue and it can match my old XBOX
-
I think it was a way to attract people to their product. I know of lots of people that bought nokia phones becuase of how many aftermarket skins and keypads you could get. Its a gimick. I think it was a good marketing device and makes for some additional income for those who care.
-
You see, here's how I take the whole "faceplate" idea from M$'s standing...
The marketing team thinking of ways (and the people designing the console) to make money, and in this, they have probably seen custom designed XBOX Consoles and then thought, HEY, if we allow them (stupid kids is probably what they think of all of us) to change one thing without voiding the warranty (changing one thing, ie, faceplate), then we could make alot of money!
*NOTE* anyways everyone, sorry, im just pretty wrecked right now, 20th birthday for me and im DESTROYYYYED
And thats how the faceplate changing thing came along!
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again. UNIFORMITY!!!! It looks like crap otherwise. Stupid faceplates...
-
Don't be crap, MS tried their best. Whole case changeovers may be too difficult for some, and a security risk for ms. I reckon they've done well, even though just seeing the front different does suck.
If MS made new cases, it would defeat the purpose of case modding, and ruin our hobbies!
-
I think they could have done whole case replacements easy enough, the console is mostly encapsulated in a metal cage, if you make the plastic shell snap around the metal cage not only could you change out the whole color of the case but you could also change the whole shape of it as well.
The idea definitely came from cell phones, I think lots of ideas for the 360 came from the scene but lots of others, like faceplates came from cell phones.
In any case I wouldn't mind having a faceplate if they actually made a nice looking one that was easy to acquire, the E305 and PGR3 ones I would consider buying for the $20 price tag they're charging. But unfortunately they're some of the hardest ones to get. I don't understand why you'd take a flagship game like PGR3 and make marketing paraphernalia for that game hard to get.
I also don't understand why it's only been 3rd parties so far that have released game related faceplates. From a marketing standpoint it would make more sense to sell game related faceplates, people LOVE their games way more then some random design, and when they're done with a game and ready to move on to something new they'll be more likely to buy a new game faceplate as well. You wouldn't want to still be showing off a PGR3 faceplate when PGR4 or Forza 2 rolls around with their faceplates. But with some random design you'd be more likely to just leave it on for the life of the console.
-
only ones i've liked so far are the E3 and the Korean pre-order one. I would like a nice Xbox-Scene one. just done on white with the little guy on it.
-
Hopefully They will come out with Translucent Cases soon, that's be ghetto

yeah, count me in for an x-s one. i think the logo and the words 'xbox-scene' in green on the normal white background would be ace
-
If it dosn't involve a dremel, glue and some paint then it isn't a case mod. It is just a color option.

i agree.
but i do like what flashfreak said. i know that some games have them, but it would be good if the majority of games had their own faceplates.

dude. that is technically correct.
"stock look" refers to the way it looks when stock.
you might be mistaking them to be saying "I link the stock. It looks best."
but it is correct.
-
Poor excuse for a case mod... if you want to "personalize" it, mod it yourself!

What's the manufacturer of this face plate? I think you could take it appart and make your own design with the paper as a template. Im interested in getting one so please get back to me.

yeah you can take it apart and put your own one in there
-
I have seen the 'make your own' faceplate, but you have to wait 3 weeks for it. How 'bout a program that will let you print on a template or plain paper any design you want. Of course it will have to come with a special faceplate that will allow you to put the paper in it, in some sort of way. The face playes I have seen are all junk, except for the chrome one....
And at $20 a pop, it better be damn good looking.
...oops, didn't see the previous post, what is the manufacturer of that faceplate? I would like to make a template for it...
-
I really don't give a darn about it. What we really want is GOOD GAMES... and a BIGGER HARD DRIVE..
..and HD-DVD ROM..... period..
-
Imho they are ugly and a poor excuse for a case-mod. It just seems so out of place because they don't match the rest of the case. I have seen some that look good on the stock white, but they are rare.
-
Not a case mod? Paint would not look this good. I love the look of my 360, the face makes it. Everyone who sees it says so. All the MS ones do suck though. I hope more come out with the eject button and dvd tray. They look more seamless that way.

I haven't seen the chrome one, but I got the official silver faceplate to fit in with my other AV equipment. Problem was, you could still see the off-white body of the Xbox 360, so the effect was ruined. After half a day, that silver faceplate was on eBay.
-
Still waiting on a faceplate + case replacement that looks like a XeDK.
-
get your power brick better ventilated like on top of a mini fridge and get a new game disc of elder scrolls
-
Elder Scrolls is notorious for locking up on loading screens. It does for me about once per play session, it's the only game that has ever locked up on me.
-
and what would be the problem mr omniscent. you can say whatever you want but the reason the game messed up during the loading screens is from lots of heat.
-
lol 4 posts and he's an expert on 360 trouble shooting.

almost the same with me. i have a couple that arnt too bad, but the fact the the rest of the console is white makes it look really cheap and nasty.
but ill keep mine, and i might even pay a bit more to get the ones for each game that has them, that i buy. to me, they look like shit, but some other people like them
-
I'm with dotster, where your power supply having heating issues would have nothing to do with your game freezing. The game disc, however, could... but since others said they had the same problem, i highly doubt that that's the problem.
It's probably just an issue of the game being poorly written, causing it to lock up for seemingly no reason.
ANYWAYS, back on topic. I really see the faceplate thing to be really stupid. It's not going to impress your friends, because there's no creativity at all. And, it'd be easy to have the same colors as your friends, which in my book ranks as uncool. I love my heavily case modded original xbox's (2 of them) that I did with my own two hands and they look awesome, and drop jaws wherever i take the machines.
So I guess Im saying I'd rather paint, cut, and light up an xbox 360 myself instead of buying a stupid faceplate/case for it. Just my two cents, y'all.

i agree with you Dizzan. but i think ms made the face plates for the larger population who arnt into harcore modding their xbox's.
-
QUOTE(STEVEHABS @ May 7 2006, 07:49 PM)
well the only thing you can do then is get the intercooler or use water cooling to keep the gpu and cpu cold and hopefully elder scrolls would be ok otherwise i guess you just have to save a lot.
well i think its pretty obvious that if it is just one game that is freezing, then clearly it is not heating related. the game is probably just badly coded. for example, quake 4 tends to freeze a bit during laoding screens.
-
QUOTE(STEVEHABS @ May 7 2006, 08:25 PM)
maybe the way they coded the game was too much for the xbox 360. with quake 4 maybe it tries to load too much at once if thats possible.
i can see where you are comign from, but i dont think that is the problem. the 360 will load as much as it can. it wont crash becvause it is trying to load too much.
what it will be is maybe read error's off the dvd-rom, or buffer overflows or some coding problem such as that. i have no doubt that some of this is because the coders needed to make a game that had no hard drive to cache files to. if everyone had a hard drive, then there would be far less loading crashes and far better laoding times.
i can imagine that in teh not too distant future, you will see games appear that require a hard drive to play. i really hope they go down that path
and that they release a bigger hard drive. i need about a 606 gig hard drive

then dumb end user.
the end user or consumer is generally seen as dumb, and it tends to be true. no matter how stupid a product you make, someone will buy it. this sort of is the case here, but it is more a case of lazyness.
in todays society, people would rather spend 20 bucks and get a face plate becasue it is different from the stock look. most people wouldnt even think of paint it.
and i bet miscrosoft and the other companies producing teh face plates are making a killing...
-
come on guys.. you know you love these face plates..
they make you feel like "it's YOUR XBOX.. do what you want with it! MAKE IT YOUR OWN".. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
hahahha (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) , what a load with these plastic crap plates...
-
they almost wouldnt be soo bad if theyw ere all printed. the ones that are just a peice of paper sandwitched between two peices of plastic are just a rip off
-
I am guessing they are just a stupid idea ms came up with to stop other types of mod (modchip, softmod etc.)
-
o snap its only front?i though its thewhole skin...y waste money then...pff
-
If it was the whole case I would love it. And MS wont even make the classic black/green from the original Xbox. If someone would come out with a full case mod that was the same colour as the original xbox I would buy it.

m$ wont make a full case because doing that menas that you would have to take the original case off, and that would void the warranty. if they had of thought about it, then there could have been a way (eg, having two covers; one removable, one not).
-
The idea of giving you the option to change the look of the console without voiding your warranty by use of a snap-on is a good idea i think. It also shows that MS tried very hard to meet the demands of modders, just as they did with the media center integrations and other features of the dash. I think they picked up on most of the hardware and software mods that exist for the original Xbox console.
That said, I would also agree that there is a lack of really cool plates that are worth spending money on. What I would recommened is to bundle reusable skins (similarly to that of the DELL skins) with the plates, that would allow users to change the whole appearance of the consoles. There are many types of paper stock that makes it possible to achieve different finishes from glossy and metallic to matte and plain.
That way, I think they would meet the demands of more people. As for LEDs in the plates, that is also a great idea and doesnt seem to far-fetched if you ask me.
--Just my contribution.
-
i don't own and 360 but, it's just like buying a skin and everyone knows people that post there skinned xbox usaly get flamed. so i dont like the face plate but i Do think its cool that people make faceplates that you can buy on the internet because just like skins some people do not have the time, skill or money to paint and other stuff. so face plates and skins are a good alternative to a cheap way to show off to your friends.

dont like the face plates
